fake enough
lol what. Craig Wright and Roger Ver are both conmen. Coingeek is a conman shilling platform, and their claim that [I have] "come to the realization that Bitcoin SV is the real Bitcoin," is
malicious whole cloth fabrication. Now, Is "Bitcoin SV" the real fake bitcoin (bch)? Maybe but who cares.
I think it's unfortunate that Wright's over the top mania is causing dissension in his bamboozled army, as having a scam run by an obvious scammer is a
win-win... but it seems that there is nothing to be done for it now, the psychosis is just too strong now.(my emphasis)
Ok but now he says
“I emailed him– because I’m concerned that scammers like Roger Ver finally figured out that faketoshi isn’t convincing anyone anymore,” Maxwell said.
And according to Trustnodes
We may have seen such assistance in action yesterday when Craig Wright’s BMG Pool mined five 32MB blocks containing miner created zombie transactions.
Why they mined such blocks is not very clear, but Maxwell’s tactic may well be to use his code expertise as a political tool. What may well be Blockstream affiliated media accounts, for example, where quick yesterday to say the Bitcoin Unlimited nodes had crashed after the 32MB blocks were mined.
Yet code related problems with Bitcoin Unlimited are not news to anyone, hence why it took until BitcoinABC to fork off.
ABC’s nodes kept up very well. Potentially so suggesting that Maxwell actually doesn’t have much in his code arsenal, if of course he was involved in discreetly assisting Wright’s pool with mining zombie transactions.
We do not know whether that is the case, but it is doubtful Wright’s team would have had the technical expertise otherwise as clearly shown by BitcoinSV’s codebase.
A codebase that probably has bugs which actually matter, in a client that actually matters.

Forget private keys, if Craig Wright was Satoshi he could post his now defunct bitcointalk password on Twitter...but he can't even do that. Also, since everyone in the thread is retarded, my bottom call around 10 months ago was "probably stabilize around $4200-4400 with flash crashes to $3000", while Tera's was "might drop as low as $1000". You can build a statue in the town square of whoever the winner is.

UN is crypto enthusiast in its last economic reportCrypto Represents “New Frontier” in Digital FinanceCryptocurrencies represent a new frontier in digital finance and their popularity is growing. The decentralized networks for cryptocurrencies, bitcoin being a well-known example, can keep track of digital transactions. They enable value to be exchanged and can give rise to new business models which would otherwise require significant regulatory and institutional commitments.Blockchain and Crypto Have Many Use CasesFor example, a value token called climatecoin is being considered as a basis for creating a global market for carbon emissions, allowing peer-to-peer exchange of carbon credits and a direct connection with the Internet of Things. It would then be possible for devices to calculate their own carbon emissions and purchase carbon credits to offset those emissions.
There are also proposals for using blockchain technology as a distributed ledger of real-world information on property registration, personal identity, and provenance of food and medicines, among many other types of data. The United Nations and the World Identity Network are exploring ways to register the identities of children on a blockchain as a means of combating child trafficking.Innovation Comes From Inherent TrustThe innovativeness of this system lies in the way in which the various parts combine to create the trust and guarantees that the traditional financial system derives from institutions and regulation. The incentives align the interest of participants towards contributing to the system’s security.
In contrast, the traditional system relies on a complex armature of reporting, oversight and implicit or explicit guarantees, ultimately backed by the reputation of the central authority. As such, the blockchain technology presents the possibility—a first in the field of finance!—that trust in institutions backed by government can be replaced by trust in computer code.https://dailyhodl.com/2019/01/20/united-nations-calls-bitcoin-and-crypto-new-frontier-in-finance-explores-ripple-and-iota-technologies/

Wow.. but where will it be stored? In your Samsung account online or inside mobile offline?
And more is it from Samsung or Android itself?
Samsung said that smartphones are the safest devices for storing digital currencies. According to the electronics giant, “spendable” cryptocurrency
may be securely stored on mobile phones because they use a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).
As explained by Samsung in a blog
post, the TEE runs in its own independent execution environment, so that its persistent storage (normally a hard disk drive) and random-access-memory (RAM) are separate from a mobile phone’s operating system (OS).
Because there’s an independent run-time environment, the Android OS does not have direct access to the TEE. This means that even if the OS gets hacked, the attacker will not be able to access the data in the TEE. The only way to access data in the TEE is through a compatible application programming interface (API), according to Samsung.

Since I assume there were no satellites in 1904 are you sure you have the good license?

And AFAIK you need to pass a test to get it...

It's the same reason why women weren't allowed to vote. Males are the most productive members of society who build everything in the first place. If you look outside your window, every single brick was put there by a man. Women as a whole PAY NO TAXES and are a net burden on a nation. Any type of system giving women voting rights is going to be nothing more than 100% guaranteed communism where they vote to steal money from more productive males to subsidize themselves.

Bitcoin requires an artificial block size restraint in order for any type of fee market to function and exist at all. Rather than join the arbitrarily set small and useless blocks camp, or the large and dysfunctional blocks camp, any rational person would just notice bitcoin is a poorly constructed imitation of physical gold - a fugazi - and just use real physical gold and silver instead.
You can only sell your gold and your silver to very few people because nobody is able to determine if it's real silver or gold.

I don't know if it's a good or bad news for
BTC
Gaza's Ruling Group Hamas Seeks Funding in Bitcoin to Combat Financial IsolationThe militant arm of Hamas — the de facto ruling authority of the Gaza Strip in Palestine — has appealed to its supporters to send it funds using Bitcoin (BTC). The appeal was made via the official Telegram channel of Abu Obeida, a spokesman for Hamas’ Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, on Jan. 29.
In his message, Abu Obeida called upon “all lovers of the resistance and the supporters of our righteous cause to support the resistance financially using ‘Bitcoin’ currency,” adding that an exact funding mechanism for transacting the crypto would be announced later. He continued:
“The Zionist enemy is fighting the resistance by trying to cut its support by all means, but the resistance lovers in all the world are fighting these Zionist attempts and are seeking to find all possible support for the resistance."
Abu Obeida’s turn to Bitcoin comes in the immediate context of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to temporarily freeze millions of dollars in Qatari aid — including $15 million a month to pay the salaries of Hamas civil servants — from entering the Gaza Strip, in retribution for a recent flare-up in border tensions between Israel and Hamas.

BTC trading is now available on Ethereum blockchainWBTC (Wrapped Bitcoin) was officially launched on Ethereum as a BTC-backer ERC20 token and is now available for trading on several applications and platforms. WBTC was first announced on October 26, 2018 as a joint initiative by BitGo, Kyber Network, Ren (formerly Republic Protocol), and other community partners, to bring Bitcoin’s liquidity to the decentralized ecosystem on Ethereum and enhance all decentralized applications (DApps).
WBTC standardizes bitcoin to the ERC20 format, so DApps such as Compound, Dharma, dYdx, Gnosis, Maker, Set protocol and more can leverage BTC for decentralized lending, margin trading and derivative markets. Further compelling new applications and use cases will be identified, explored and implemented as the ecosystem continues to grow and actively innovate.
By bringing Bitcoin’s liquidity to Ethereum, WBTC also makes it possible for traders to use Bitcoin value for token trades on decentralized exchanges (DEXs) such as AirSwap, DDEX, ETHfinex, IDEX, KyberSwap, Loopring, Radar Relay, RenEx, Switcheo Network, TheOcean.
Eight initial merchants will be facilitating conversion between WBTC and BTC: AirSwap, Dharma, ETHfinex, GOPAX, Kyber Network, Prycto, Ren, and Set Protocol.

Bitcoin Price Hits Record Sixth Consecutive Month of LossesBitcoin’s price fell for a record sixth consecutive month in January, after an early bounce to $4,000 failed to entice mass buying.
The leading cryptocurrency by market value closed yesterday at $3,413 on Bitstamp – down 7.59 percent from the monthly opening price of $3,693. Prices dropped 9, 6, 4.4, 37 and 7 percent, respectively, in the previous five months.
The second longest run of monthly losses dates back to 2011 when prices dropped 81 percent during the five months from July to November.

An Israeli "startup" is monitoring Bitcoin donations to Hamas.
After Hamas's military wing published a bitcoin address on Telegram on Thursday identified by Whitestream as the wallet address of Coinbase, the same Telegram channel published a second bitcoin address for collecting donations on Saturday, this time a digital wallet apparently unrelated to Coinbase. Levy explained to "Globes" today that according to a check by Whitestream, within two days of the publication of the first bitcoin address, two relatively small bitcoin donations addresses were published amounting to only $2,500.
Whitestream discovered that one of the bitcoin donations transferred to Hamas's Coinbase wallet was sent on Thursday from a "Buy Cash" bitcoin trader in Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. Other bitcoin donations were sent to the Palestinian organization from wallets connected to Chinese cryptocurrencies exchange Binance and Russian cryptocurrencies exchange Vilkov, and from a wallet of another Coinbase account. Whitestream's check also revealed that bitcoin donations were sent late last week from Hamas's coinbase wallet to two bitcoin wallets: one belonging to CoinPayments, a company registered in the Cayman Islands, and one belonging to Binance.
The second Hamas bitcoin address has so far received donations from wallets of US trading platforms Bittrex and Coinbase, from Binance and Vilkov wallets, and from the coinMixer.io mixing service. Mixing technology mixes different addresses of digital currencies, thereby making it difficult to identify their users. Levy told "Globes" that the Hamas Coinbase wallet may have been blocked, and another wallet opened for collecting donations. The Whitestream team will continue monitoring incoming and outgoing transactions on Hamas's bitcoin addresses in the near future.

Federal Reserve May Add Bitcoin Crash to Stress Test ScenariosThe U.S. Federal Reserve could soon include a cryptocurrency market crash as one of the risks to take into account when conducting supervisory stress tests.
The Fed’s board of governors on Thursday announced amendments to a policy statement on the scenario design framework for stress testing, saying that “the collapse of the bitcoin market” may be considered as one of the “salient” market risks.
According to the document, the crypto amendment was recommended to the board by a commenter who proposed it should be seen as one of several “extraordinary shocks,” such as a war with North Korea and major losses caused by trader misconduct.
“Where appropriate, the Board intends to continue augmenting the scenarios with risks it considers to be salient,” it explained.

No need to pay ripoff prices.
Using simple combinatorics you can set up (for example) a three-of-five secret sharing scheme.
Divide a long
random number (your entropy*) into ten concatenated segments Seg(1), Seg(2)... Seg(10). Assign each segment to a row in this table. Each row has three red blocks. Give Seg(i) of the
rand to each person who has a red square in row(i).
Any three persons out of the five can put their shares together and recreate the entire
rand.

Note that for a two-of-five secret sharing scheme, you would need four red blocks in each row, the combinatoric "5 choose 4" which has five rows.
A four-of-five secret sharing scheme would require two red squares in each row. 5 choose 2 has ten rows.
*Since a bitcoin address privkey is based on a 256 bit random number, you could simply use a 256 bit
rand and create a bitcoin privkey directly from that. In that case, each segment of the key would have 25 or 26 bits, which might not be enough security for you. To increase security, you could use a 1000 bit
rand so that each segment has 100 bits. Then derive the privkey from the 1000 bit number, perhaps by simply hashing it down to 256 bits using sha256sum (the way bitaddress.org does it).
Very good

I talked about the Split Wallet feature of bitaddress yesterday (which uses the
Shamir's Secret Sharing algorithm AFAIK)
But I prefer your DIY and trustless way, moreover I think it's more convenient and discreet to share numbers or 'real' words(brain wallet) with other people, or to store for yourself, than hexadecimal or base 64 strings...

You can do almost the same thing for free by using the Split Wallet feature of
bitaddress.org and sending one key to someone else.

CRYPTO CONNECTION
The gunman appears to have published a 74-page manifesto for the attack that is making the rounds online and in which he rambled off inspirations, political and otherwise, leading up to this awful day. After revealing that video game Fortnite taught him how to be a killer, the gunman disclosed that he has dabbled in cryptocurrency, writing:
“I worked for a short time before making some money investing in BitConnect, then used the money from the investment to travel.”
He reportedly used the profits to travel overseas across Europe, Southeast Asia, and Asia, which may be where he became radicalized, according to the manager of the gym where the gunman worked. https://www.ccn.com/christchurch-terrorist-invested-and-profited-from-crypto-scam-bitconnect

TrustToken Pegs Brexit HopesTrustToken which was one of the few options available during the start of 2018 has now released a stablecoin pegged to the British Pound. Funds remain however in a US-based escrow account, not in the United Kingdom.
Should the UK who is on the brink of a bitter divorce with the European Union place any capital controls to avoid deposit flight in the case of a No-deal Brexit, there could be a small window of opportunity for the stablecoin to find an audience facilitating trade as cryptocurrencies prove relief in areas facing financial difficulties.
Iceland, Cyprus and Greece, all members of the European Economic Area (EEA), have faced capital controls in recent years grinding international trade to a near halt. Banks saved, but economies felt the recession.
This is, however, conjecture. Without such a pressing event, and the required guerilla marketing tactics highlighting the option, the addition of GBP into the token issuer’s portfolio is unlikely to bring any benefits in the short-term as stablecoins remain, for the most part, a trading tool. And the British have yet to become avid fans of cryptocurrency based on global trading volumes.https://diar.co/volume-3-issue-10/

Bloomberg: Bakkt May Seek License from NY Regulators to Let Bitcoin Go MainstreamBloomberg reports that in order to overcome the resistance of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Intercontinental Exchange, Inc (ICE) intends to seek a license from the financial regulators in New York to get the Bakkt project finally going.
The major problem the regulator names here is the issue of storing customers’ assets and avoiding hacks along with possible market manipulation.
ICE considers solving the issue by getting licensed by NY financial regulators. They can officially allow Bakkt to set up its own custodial service for customers and store their digital coins for them.

Exclusive: Bitcoin donations to ISIS soared day before Sri Lanka bombingsWhitestream found that on the day before the bombings, there was a sharp rise of hundreds of percent in the bitcoin balance held by CoinPayments, a company through which donations to ISIS are changed into bitcoin from regular currency. On April 20, the day before the Easter attacks, the balance in the main wallet of CoinPayments rose from just $500,000 to $4.5 million.
The following day on which the lethal attacks took place, the wallet's balance dropped back to $500,000, the same as the average daily monthly balance during the previous nine months.
Whitestream said, "CoinPayments admits that there wallet was involved but denies that it is connected to ISIS. It's possible that the company is not aware about the usage of their wallets, erhaps because ISIS uses straw companies in order to transfer the money.
Levy told "Globes" about the process by which Whitestream identifies usage by ISIS of a bitcoin wallet. "Firstly we identified a certain bitcoin address that received several donations at different times, and we succeeded in verifying that two of the donations came from the address that was presented on ISIS's donations website. Even though the amount on this address was only several dollars, through this wallet we were able to identify that ISIS collects the donations via CoinPayments. This address is just a junction, which reveals the link between CoinPayments and ISIS's donations. Our assumption is that the terrorist organization probably possesses many bitcoin addresses through CoinPayments, with every donation sent to a different address. On the day before the Sri Lanka terror attacks we identified two relatively big transactions at this address with bitcoins worth about $9,800."

Crypto exchange Binance founder and CEO Changpeng Zhao said the team is deciding on whether it will push for a rollback on the bitcoin network following a $40 million hack on the exchange earlier Wednesday.Answering questions on whether the firm considers rolling back bitcoin network transactions, which would require pushing for consensus from major miners and mining pools to gather over 51 percent of the network’s total hashing power, Zhao said:
“To be honest, we can actually do this probably within the next a few days. But there’re concerns that if we do a rollback on the bitcoin network at that scale, it may have some negative consequences, in terms of destroying the credibility for bitcoin.”
He added that he has also seen a lot of people objecting to rollbacks since there are the “ethical and reputational considerations for the bitcoin network.”
“The team is still deciding that, and we are running through the numbers and checking everything,” he said. “It’s interesting that it’s a tech solution [suggested] to us by the community, including some of the core members of the bitcoin development team. We will consider that very, very carefully, with the feedback we are receiving.”https://www.coindesk.com/binance-may-consider-bitcoin-rollback-following-40-million-hack

According to Grayscale, many investors are not aware of the bitcoin block reward halving.
As such, it still remains a key factor for the price and it is not completely priced in.
"We were surprised to learn that many of them were not even aware of this event." (Grayscale)
https://twitter.com/iamjosephyoung/status/1136949078879744000Very interesting news!

thank you
Edit: I found the original quote
Is the Halving Priced In?
The halving is close enough that it’s time to start talking about it more seriously, but far enough out in the future that it’s unclear whether it’s priced into the market efficiently. In fact, based on anecdotal conversations with market participants, we were surprised to learn that many of them were not even aware of this event. Moreover, according to Unchained Capital, less than 32% of the bitcoins in circulation have remained in the same wallet addresses since July 2016.3 This is consistent with our own determination that a large number of existing bitcoin holders are investors who have entered the market in the last three years. For many of them, this is uncharted territory and could very well be their first halving event.
While some investors in the digital asset ecosystem appear to have a short-term bias, strategies with a multi-year investment horizon and the discipline to hold strategic positions in Bitcoin through these events have historically generated outsized returns. For example, in the one-year periods following the first and second halvings, bitcoin’s price rose by roughly 81x and 3x, respectively.

French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said the digital currency known as Libra shouldn’t be seen as a replacement for traditional currencies.
“It is out of question’’ that Libra “become a sovereign currency,’’ LeMaire said in an interview on Europe 1 radio. “It can’t and it must not happen.”

According to the technical White Paper there should be ways to remain "pseudonymous"
Account addresses.
An account address is a 256-bit value. To create a new account, a user
first generates a fresh verification/signature key-pair (vk, sk) for a signature scheme and uses the
cryptographic hash of the public verification key vk as an account address a = H(vk).1
The new account is created in the ledger state when a transaction sent from an existing account invokes the
create_account(a) Move instruction. This typically happens when a transaction attempts to send
Libra to an account at address a that has not yet been created.
Once the new account is created at a, the user can sign transactions to be sent from that account
using the private signing key sk. The user can also rotate the key used to sign transactions from the
account without changing its address, e.g., to proactively change the key or to respond to a possible
compromise of the key.
The Libra protocol does not link accounts to a real-world identity. A user is free to create multiple
accounts by generating multiple key-pairs. Accounts controlled by the same user have no inherent
link to each other. This scheme follows the example of Bitcoin and Ethereum in that it provides
pseudonymity [19] for users.
1 Concretely we instantiate hash functions with SHA3-256 [17] and digital signatures with EdDSA using the ed-
wards25519 curve [18].https://developers.libra.org/docs/assets/papers/the-libra-blockchain.pdf

You think the present day power consumption of Bitcoin can increase by two orders of magnitude? HAHAHAHAHA.
Over time the block rewards will decline and miners will also actually use less power but the cost for the hardware will probably be more of a factor than the cost of power at some point. However when it comes to the amount of power that can be used ... considering that current world's power requirements could be handled with less than 120,000 sq km of solar panels ... at growth of 100x power use for bitcoin over the next 100 years won't be an issue. Like metals, energy is actually in abundance, we just haven't had the technology in place to use it. (120k sq km is about 0.024% of the earth's surface area, I just showing how little of our available power we actually use. Solar is only one technology, fusion based power plants could exist 100 years from now.)
A few years ago I really thought power would be a problem, but then I started doing some computations. Energy isn't the issue, technology and politics are the issues. However since bitcoin depends more on networks than location, politics can be bypassed.
Ok but I think nobody cares about the price in one century or even 2 or 3 decades. We are talking about the price in few years/months here.

Poloniex now supports crypto-trading using bank accounts, debit and credit cards By connecting bank accounts, customers in over 80 countries can now deposit money into Poloniex and have it automatically tokenized into USD Coin (USDC) for trading. Similarly, customers can withdraw USDC directly into their bank accounts. The starting weekly limits are $50,000 for deposits and $25,000 for withdrawals, but these can be increased for specific customer needs.
Additionally, Poloniex has partnered with payment-processor Simplex, so customers from 60+ countries can use their debit or credit cards to buy bitcoin on Poloniex. Simplex charges a 3.5% fee (or $10, whichever is greater), and customers can purchase as little as $50 worth of bitcoin.
Customers who connect their bank accounts and deposit funds will get their fiat money automatically tokenized to USD Coin (USDC)

Just look on this 4 hours chart and how the price dropped exactly to the trend line. I know that if there will be a further decline, we will see the second trend line tested.
But I think 12.000$ is the lowest price we will see, with this pullback. We will test this level a few times and go up again.

What do you make of his $1million btc prediction? I don't think it will happen
Overly ambitious. But I wouldn’t definitively rule it out.
Specifically, McAfee predicted $1M by the end of 2020.
A raging bull market may
peak at $1M in q4 2020, but assuredly a major bear market will follow in the event.
McAfee prediction is based on his own “mathematics”. But he never disclosed why and how BTC will get to this level.
PlanB also predict multi millions values for bitcoin, he clearly states how we will get to that valuations. Part of the story is als o the fact that USD will lose much of his value (BTCUSD going up not because BTC going up, but because USD going down).
Still, difficult, not impossible.
2020?hardly doubt so, even if halvening effect fully takes place.
Hilarious that these clowns like McAfee make these outrageous Bitcoin price predictions, like the price will just magically "rise" to these astronomical levels on its own, in a supposed vacuum.
They never talk about people. As in, price rises
when people fucking buy Bitcoin. As in public demand outstripping supply. So what is going to spur this amazing and sudden demand? Everyone I've talked to has no plans to create an account and buy any Bitcoin, no matter what the price does.
tldr; Bitcoin price doesn't just magically rise on its own. /rant
However the demand is here, according to Ameritrade CEO...
Bitcoin Drawing More Interest From Traders, TD Ameritrade CEO Says
Despite U.S. lawmakers' skepticism toward Facebook's proposed digital token, Libra, individual investors are eager to trade cryptocurrencies like bitcoin, TD Ameritrade CEO Tim Hockey says in an interview.
Congress hates it. Regulators don't know what to do with it.
But cryptocurrencies like bitcoin are drawing increasing interest from investors, and they want to trade it, said Tim Hockey, the outgoing CEO of the online brokerage firm TD Ameritrade.
"Clients are asking for it"

US Department of Defense to Use Tech Underlying Bitcoin for Experimental Communication Platform The US Department of Defense (DoD) has released a new document stating that the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), one of its agencies, is experimenting with blockchain, the technology that underpins Bitcoin. According to the document, entitled the “DoD Digital Modernization Strategy”, DARPA is exploring how blockchain can help facilitate the transmission of secure messages.
"Blockchains are a new information technology that inverts the cybersecurity paradigm. First, blockchain networks are trustless: they assume compromise of the network by both insiders and outsiders. Second, blockchains are transparently secure: they do not rely on failure-prone secrets, but rather on a cryptographic data structure that makes tampering both exceptionally difficult and immediately obvious.
Finally, blockchain networks are fault tolerant: they align the efforts of honest nodes to reject those that are dishonest. As a result, blockchain networks not only reduce the probability of compromise, but also impose significantly greater costs on an adversary to achieve it."https://dailyhodl.com/2019/07/28/us-department-of-defense-to-use-tech-underlying-bitcoin-for-experimental-communication-platform/

As The Largest Crypto Exchange Goes Offline, Bitcoin And Altcoins Crash To New August Lows
The cryptocurrency market lost around $25 billion today, as Bitcoin and all major large-cap altcoins plummeted heavily. This happened right after Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange went down for scheduled maintenance.
Bitcoin, for once, broke below the $10,000 level in a heavy plunge upwards of 7% at the time of this writing.
Awkward Timing Once Again
All of this happened after Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, went off for a scheduled maintenance in order to perform a system update.
In any case, the maintenance was intended to go for 6-8 hours, which is a considerable amount of time during which deposits, withdrawals, and trading is halted.
As Cryptopotato reported in the past, scheduled maintenances of the kind are an excellent opportunity for Bitcoin price manipulations by whales. Traders don’t want to stay out of control only to find their positions forced liquidation at the time the exchange goes back up.
Moreover, there is also a possibility for serious arbitrage trading because of the severe price difference before and after Binance went offline.https://cryptopotato.com/as-the-largest-crypto-exchange-goes-offline-bitcoin-and-altcoins-crash-to-new-august-lows/https://www.binance.com/en/support/articles/360032315391

https://twitter.com/skew_markets/status/1166264430239408128 Can someone ELI5 this shit for me? I'm not sure how a futures market that doesn't settle in actual coins is effecting the market. Are true investors this retarded that they are manipulated by an artificial vapor market? Eventually these scumbags have to use real coins, as in not stolen from exchanges by TPTB, to manipulate and create self fulfilling prophecies.
Wall Street Sells Bitcoin on Futures Expiry It’s the last Friday of the month. That means futures expire tomorrow and like clockwork bitcoin fell about 10% before recovering slightly to $9,400.
[...]
These bets never touch actual bitcoin, but they are based on bitcoin’s price as aggregated by CME on at least four exchanges: Bitstamp, Coinbase, itBit and Kraken.
“Each day, the BRR[Bitcoin Reference Rate] aggregates the trade flow of major bitcoin spot exchanges during a specific one-hour calculation window. This one-hour window is then partitioned into 12, five-minute intervals, where the BRR is calculated as the equally-weighted average of the volume-weighted medians of all 12 partitions,” they say . https://www.cmegroup.com/education/courses/introduction-to-bitcoin/introduction-to-bitcoin-reference-rate.html
Such partitioning is done to prevent spot price manipulation, but the use of this specific one hour period is interesting because all you need to do to circumvent it is to manipulate the price the day before.
9PM London time sounds perfect. Europe is maybe having dinner, some family time, watching the news, or maybe for some they have gone to bed. When they wake up, hopefully they’ll give some more downwards momentum preferably before 3PM. The contract can then expire and the Wall Street bears can make some money.
The above is word for word from an article we wrote in April. In May too it hardly needed any change, or in June , or in July.
For months on and it still applies, with it unlikely to be a coincidence as it is now a bit far too predictable.

Now though at least we have a complete article which we can just copy and paste next month.

I think y'all maybe missed the point of the link I posted today, this isn't old news from 6 days ago. The link explains that purchases with crypto are VAT free. This follows from a clarification by the Portuguese gov't a couple days ago. Note the quote below isn't talking about investment gains.
According to a report published on Aug. 26 by Portuguese business newspaper Jornal de Negócios, the Portuguese Tax and Customs Authority have confirmed that crypto transactions or payments are exempt from Value Added Tax (VAT).
Not your quote, but this quote is talking about it, as far as I understand :
Portugal’s Tax Authority has clarified that both cryptocurrency trading and payments in crypto will not be taxed in the country, Cointelegraph en Español reported on Aug. 27.
-snip
The agency reportedly provided the clarification to a local crypto mining company, publishing an official ruling document. In the document, the authority states that the exchange of crypto for fiat money is free of VAT, adding that crypto users do not have to pay any income tax.

Paul Schulte, who worked as global head of financial strategy for China Construction Bank until 2012, says the largest bank in the world, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the second largest bank in the world, his former employer, the Bank of China, the Agricultural Bank of China; two of China’s largest financial technology companies, Alibaba and Tencent; and Union Pay, an association of Chinese banks, will receive the cryptocurrency.
At the time of launch, the recipient institutions will then be responsible for dispersing the cryptocurrency to 1.3 billion Chinese citizens and others doing business in the renminbi, China’s fiat currency, according to the source.

254 Million Shades of Grayscale: Bitcoin Inflows Up Dramatically
Grayscale interest continues to surge despite a depressed crypto market.
The fund has released its third quarter results from 2019, revealing quarter billion-dollar inflows into the fund. It marks the fund’s most successful quarter since its inception, and represents triple the inflows of Q2, up from $84.8 to $254.9 million.
Its third quarter inflows represent over a quarter of total inflows since the fund’s inception in September 2013.
That quarter-over-quarter tripling of inflows has come despite flattening asset prices. It brings inflows up to $382.3 million year-to-date, and twelve-month inflows of $412.3 million.
Grayscale enjoyed a 42 percent increase in inflows in Q1 2019 from Q4 2018, a doubling of inflows from Q1 2019 to Q2 2019. Quarter three marks a tripling since last quarter. All this comes after a very strong 2018.

Options for bitcoin FUTURES, again. How about plain old options? I wonder why they're approaching it this way.
I think it's just because bakkt is dealing futures, not bitcoins. So you will be able to buy calls and puts on futures, and then getting or giving these futures when you will exercise your options. Then you will be able to get "physical" bitcoins with your futures.
Options will settle into Bakkt’s monthly bitcoin futures contract with time to roll, close out positions or take physical delivery

They're almost the same thing - but only if settlement date of the options coincides with that of the underlying future.
The settlement date will be 4 days before the expiry date of the futures.
The last trading/expiration day for each option contract month is the second Exchange business day prior to the last trading day of the underlying futures contract month. The underlying monthly futures contract expires on the 3rd Friday of the month with the last trading day on the Wednesday before expiration; accordingly, the Bitcoin Option Contract will expire on Monday of that week.

Rule 24.C.08. Exercise of Options
Options on Bakkt Bitcoin (USD) Monthly Futures Contracts are European style options and may only be exercised on the Last Trading Day of the Option Month.

https://www.docdroid.net/JAWYLRr/19-307-bitcoin-options.pdfAs I said in my precedent post the settlement will be in futures contracts, in positions on the market. So if the caller wants BTCs he will keep his long position opened until the futures settlement and if he prefer money instead he will close his position (or roll it).
The Clearing Member representing the Option buyer shall be assigned a long position in the Underlying Futures Contracts if a Call is exercised or a short position in the Underlying Futures Contract if a Put is exercised.
(d) All Bakkt Bitcoin (USD) Monthly Futures Contract positions shall be assigned at a price equal to the Strike Price of the Option.

6400 seems a given but will that be the end of it is what I wonder.... Maybe 5500 will be necessary, I strongly doubt we get anything much lower than that and I still lean towards 6400 but I want to see some Bargain Boyz volume before I am convinced. In 2015 and 2016 the BTC price roughly doubled, I was counting on that to happen in 2019 and 2020 as well.
But then the early summer spike happened, and I said to myself, well maybe this time is different, there's no MtGox crash to keep us down and what not. But then we went back to normal, and it seems like we are gonna close the year with a doubling, roughly.
The moral of the story is, don't get fooled by the anomalies, stay with the long time trend.
Not that it really matters if you are a hodler.
The anomaly lasts for several years in this case. It means we should have been at $1750 in january 2018, 875 in 2017, 437 in 2016...

Gentlemen, I think all of you will agree that after this overheated summer we had an interesting October. A so called Death Cross gave us some little excitement. This is how we know our old friend, the honey badger. Speaking of temperatures, it is already much too cold for October. What should one do in the house when everything is tidy and the laundry has been washed?
For my part, I thought last year a new job would be a good thing at least for the winter time (my old workplace was chilly and I knew the new one has a working furnace) and a way to accumulate more
BTC. The goal was to accumulate a certain amount within a year. Unfortunately, I did not manage to accumulate the whole lot, the current bull started early. Well, I was still able to purchase 60% of the planned Satoshis and can confirm the heating in the new office works.

And what's the moral of the story? Well, even if the weather is bad and the little bulls come out early, you can make the best out of this situation and enjoy the little things.
Have a nice November, Gentlemen!

It means
BTC isn't disproportionately risky for such a ROI.

The Sharpe ratio was developed by Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe and is used to help investors understand the return of an investment compared to its risk. The ratio is the average return earned in excess of the risk-free rate per unit of volatility or total risk.
Subtracting the risk-free rate from the mean return allows an investor to better isolate the profits associated with risk-taking activities. Generally, the greater the value of the Sharpe ratio, the more attractive the risk-adjusted return.

ING working on digital assets custody technology
Dutch bank ING (INGA.AS) is working on developing technology to help clients safely store digital assets, according to people familiar with the matter.
The custody project, which is being run out of Amsterdam, is still in its early days and is one of the bank’s several initiatives around blockchain, the technology underlying cryptocurrencies, the sources said.
ING “sees increasing opportunities with regard to digital assets on both asset backed and native security tokens,” the bank said in a written statement to Reuters. ING is particularly focused on developing the technology behind digital assets to give its clients a compliant way to access the emerging sector, it added.

It's not even 1% of the economic value.
As economic value they took coinmarketcap. Comparing coins coimarketcap with revenue of a market is totally pointless. It dont give you any useful data.
coinmarketcap? You're talking about market cap I guess. No, I don't think so, if you look at 2012 for example, the market cap was between 50M and 100M$, so 57M$ can't represent 6% of that value.

Cristine Lagarde in her first conference as President of the ECB is discussing Bitcoins and Blockchain for CBDC.
She says that they are looking into that, on the Stablecoins above all, to cut costs and middlemen’s.
Times are changing.
Do you have a specific article that attempts to describe the significance of this?
I don't exactly grasp any kind of meaningful significance based on your summary, except just a kind of implication that bitcoin, blockchain (various cryptos) and stable coins are just becoming more broadly accepted within financial BIG WIG circles.
The ECB just made a tweet with few words of her speech about that here :

For some reason I was watching on TV her first q&a session as President of the ECB (she’s in charge from the first of November and this is her first public speaking after a rate decision).
She just started talking about Bitcoin, CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currencies), blockchain, stablecoins etcetera.
Just having a Central Banker speaking about Bitcoin is exciting.
No, I haven’t any article about that, because I was reporting it as it was happening. If I find something I will edit the message.
There are the transcript and the video of her speech about cryptos and CBDC in this article

Amun AG is launching a new ETP to short Bitcoin
Amun AG has listed a new inverse bitcoin exchange-traded product (ETP) on Switzerland’s primary stock exchange SIX.
An inverse ETP allows to earn a positive return when an underlying asset (in this case - bitcoin) falls, as it allows shorting. Amun’s inverse ETP, dubbed “21Shares Short Bitcoin ETP (SBTC)," allows investors to short bitcoin (BTC), Hany Rashwan, co-founder and CEO of Amun, told The Block.https://www.theblockcrypto.com/post/53821/amun-rolls-out-new-inverse-bitcoin-etp-that-allows-traders-to-capitalize-on-negative-price-movements

The monthly update:

Not much to report, happy I bought one of the dips last month around 9480 USD. DCA is working fine at the moment.

Other than that... got my second flu or something like that this season, even though my hands are sore from all the washing. One of the disadvantages of working in an open plan office. Anyway, the administration already has a plan when the "new flu" finally reaches the city. Our desks and the single toilet for 50 peeps will then be cleaned more frequently.

Probably all with the same wipe. When the time comes, I will put a note on my desk saying please do not clean.
I feel the urge for UVB and miss the green, will we have spring this year in March, please?
Gentlemen, have a great March, stay healthy, wash your hands and use (hand) lotion! #nohomo
PS: And no, not really afraid of the Wuflu, just amused about desperate measures to "stop" it.
TYVM for your update Dunkelheit667
It's only the third time since 2011 that february got a red candle, and March seems to be an usual red month.

I still think BTC could be around 10-12K before the halving... but those dreams about $100K any time soon (ie in 1-2 years) still look to me to me just like that: Dreams.
Hope they do realise some day though.
So what is your prediction? 10-12K at the time of halving what about 2021-2022? Sideways?

No, it could reasonably be $50K. Maybe more, maybe less. I just say that $100K is probably too much to consider as a reasonable probability. Again, not impossible, depending if Bitcoin is able to regain something similar to 2017 FOMO, but even if that were the case I would not take $100K for granted.
In fact I would prefer a more organic and sustainable $50K than a "fomo" peak to $100K.
I would prefer a real growth to $20k lol

Well, I'm not selling, this corona recession will probably be shortlived, and as the pandemic fizzles out, the economy will bounce right back.
Governments all over the world is pumping money in to the economy and health care and easing up on tax payments and doing a shitload of other things that will make the economy float right back up, like a cork under water.
Covid will go away, recession will go away, but bitcoin will stay.

Good summary. We will see 6.4k, maybe soon, but the key is what happens there. It has now become resistance. Even 7.5k , if rejected, is a very bad sign.
The bull case is a slow, slow consolidation, getting back above 8k by end of year.
The bear case is a quicker (1-2 month) move to ~7k, and another lower high.
Just TA stuff, for fun only.
+2k(ie +40%) in 1-2months is a bear case?

If it fails , yes, very much so. The bounce velocity mirrors the fall, its just a retrace before more downside. That's how markets move.
