I did help a friend buy some in 2014 at $600, who sold at just over $200 because he couldn't stomach the drop. Never again.
I considered recommending it in the $200s, but thought better of it. Most people will hold a hidden resentment against you if it drops, and their loss will become your burden.
... and it can be even weirder than that. Many people will also resent you if you recommend a winner and they don't buy and it goes up ... basically any time you put yourself in the situation of "i'm right, you're wrong" or "i'm wrong, you're right" and there's financial advantage involved, they will resent you ... it's lose-lose.
Strangely, if you charge them exorbitant fees and call yourself a "financial adviser" all that burden goes away and you can gamble with their funds like a drunken sailor.
Yeah, Friends&Family and financial advice is a VERY difficult subject.

right, I get the feeling if tomorrow night we are in this mid 11xx range, we are in good shape, and despite poeple anticipating the ETF being rejected, overall the market is still a strong bull, nothing can stop this train, ETF rejection crash is gonna be very nice buy opt thats all.
I could not find any solid proof about the ETF being approved/rejected, so i think the non hodler people's fear of a possible reject of it makes them opting to going short on btc, anyways this was expected because this last rally from later january was going up too fast before the decision. So let's hope all the weak hands are out and the price keeps more steady until that. Also pray for no more BUllshit, at least until that

Well, I bought my first BTC at 14$ as an experiment, Hodled since that, survived in Gox, and have been watching this thread since the big dump in 2013. I did not want to post until another hype cycle was evident, so i bought again @900$ and decided to finally open an account here. Never wanted to spread FUD in any way, i had to deal with that shit these last years.. i really regret not buying more the first time, but i was too young and unexperienced
90% of people saying the train is going to go backwards is a troll who did a bad bet the same day of the post. The rest are ppl contrasting too much useless info, never forget the nature of bitcoin is to go up

Price tested the original uptrend (oct 2016) and sub 1000$ support and rebounced pretty fast. If it does not go down until tomorrow, it is very possible bitcoin will recovery itself steadily and continue its cycle. The ETF was going to make us rich in few days if approved but it was not to fuck it entirely because a denial. Bitcoin is stronger than that.

As far as I know, bitfinex and poloniex are not showing their prices in USD. They are showing their prices in USDT, everybody can see that in the news section of bitfinex explained better than i am trying (tether or USDT is another crypto that tries to be 1:1 with USD), so if you check the price of tether: 0.928147 USD right now and you do the maths, you will see that the price of BTC in these exchanges is theter based. So that is not a problem of weird spreads announcing doom. China is another history, but that is nothing new lol.

The price is because real dollars aren't going in or out.
Hopefully you have a little more comeback when they go belly up with real dollars but I'll believe it when I see it.
Only poloniex is pure usdt.
I agree, Bitfinex is a "sleeping" exchange, and it can not be considered a real BTC/USD price indicator right now, and of course i dont have any fund waiting there.
USD can not be withdraw from there, but you can do it with USDT, so the price is forced to be based in USDT. What i mean with all this stuff is bitfinex is not going to doom bitcoin with this way, because you can move your coins to another exchange and trade them for real USD. So this is not the same than chinese exchanges where every few time you were not allowed to withdraw ANYTHING, causing the other markets to crash as hell.

This correction looks quite healthy, price was going into bubble zone but finally the drop appeared, later than what i expected but still in a good place. I had to sell a small % of my btc just to take some profits and hodl my last investment without risks. But i freaking hate to sell. Buying the dips is a LOT easier. As i needed to sell, i was looking to do it in a good place to get a chance to enter again in a lower level. I expected a correction between 2400/2500$, but it gone further to 2800$ and dropped to 2200$, so it was not smart to buy again. Now here i am with my stinky fiat, but at least i have some bucks ready to spend just in case it drops and tries the 2000$ support

Well it depends how hard bitmaincoin will be dumped. If it gets dumped hard it maybe makes sense to wait for a little recovery and then dump it.

I think BTC will remain dominant in the long term. But I recommend holding and being patient because I've learned in life that, when in doubt about the outcome of a situation, the best thing to do is to wait for the smoke to clear and see what's what.

Do not do it. I have the same amount than you (well, only a bit more), I bought 2 btc when it was priced at 10$, i was too young and poor to invest more lol, and this year when price was around 900$ i bought a bit more. The first investment is now worth 40.000% more since then, so who knows how much will be bitcoin worth it in a few years..
If you need to sell, do it with a small proportion, a 10% of your total btc or less, and try to rebuy if the price falls after you sold. I do that in some strategic price points, and it works pretty well. I will do it again when price goes to 5k, and then in the 10k. If the price dips under 5k after i sold i will try to buy the dip the best i can, if it does not dip, then i will be taking profits and forget about rebuying, but psycologicall barriers usually work pretty well and they make good dips to buy

Pick a small % (somewhere between 5 and 20%) and a starting price. Every time price doubles from your starting price, sell your chosen percent. Use a spreadsheet to pick the percent that gives you a mix of fiat and btc you can live with, assuming the wildest valuation you can think of, then stick with it. If you have spare fiat, buy a fixed $ (or euro, or whatever) amount every week. Then relax and enjoy the ride.

Besides that, I put an stop sell limit order of a small amount on that point (5% of my total stack, i dont like to be greedy) when the price doubles from the buy, and then i try to predict when to sell it. If I could sell before price went down filling the limit order, then try to buy the dip
. I take the profits in btc or fiat, then i put another time the sell order at the same point when possible. And repeat the game

Well, I live near Barcelona, and the things are quite fucked up here.
People of catalonia wanted to vote for their independance. Spain said nope. Catalans said they will. Spanish goverment sent us a bunch of police (Policia Nacional and Guardia Civil). Catalans said they will vote anyways. Police charged against people who was deffending the voting locations in some places, you can check in youtube, "1 october catalonia" or similar (luckily they did not charge in my town). Catalan police deffended the civilians as much as they could and also in some manner allowed to vote, firemen deffended the civils incredibly. 900 people injured. Tomorrow, and probably more days, general strike. Spanish goverment media did not show any shit, and also said no-referendum was celebrated. I loled hard.
Tomorrow general strike, lets see what happens. In few days if the independance is declared maybe they send us some tanks, they supposedly can do it because the right of preserving their territory is written in their constitution, but lets see what europe says about that.
Anyways would be epic if catalonia declares its independence the 4th Oct, and i win the ATH game the 5th. lol

Yes, I think the lack of liquidity provided by BDE/ECB has been also a major consideration in the move. They can't risk bankruptcy so it is the only logical step.

I have my bank account with Lacaixa, but luckily i dont like to have too much money in the bank account because this shit can happen, but my parents have their lifesavings and saving plans there... Well well, today i woke up and my selling order for my remaining BCH at 0.125 BTC/BCH has been filled! Seems that maybe it will rise a little bit more, but this is enough for me

Any idea if these steps will work with an offline electrum wallet?
If it is on your computer you should be able to do this i think. I don't think you have to be online to see your keys, anyway, just follow the steps and see if your keys appear.
1. Extract your private keys for your pre-fork BTG coins by following the appropriate steps in the list of providers below.
- Electrum
1) Open the menu "View" and click on "Show Addresses"
2) Then open the new tab "Addresses"
3) Right-click on the addresses that had Bitcoin before the fork, then click "Private key".
4) Click on the qrcode icon to show it.
Now that you got your private key(s) for the address(es) that contained BTC prior to the fork of August 1st:
2. Create a BCG wallet in coinomi.
3. Click on .../Sweep Wallet and paste or scan the BTC private key that you obtained in step 1.
Your forked coins should now appear in your Coinomi BCG wallet
You have to be joking?!? Paste the private key of your BTC stash into some internet site web form? This is insanity if you ask me.
I think you can (you must) move your bitcoins that have been in the pre-fork wallet to another new wallet, if you still have any funds there, and then paste the private key in that web form.

Omg... I prepared myself for this a lot ago, it was so ovbious that Ver and Jihan were going to mess it all before the BCH fork, why so much drama?
