Bitstamp is in bad shape
what do you mean?
About to drop below 100... Not good. There is an exodus from bitcoins right now. Buy at gox, sell at bitstamp and run it seems.
Honestly if the price drops below 100 is it really worth it?

Which is the best alternative to Mt. Gox? Campbx? Reviews?
CampBX liquidity is shit. I get what they are doing with the dark pools, but it actually just makes it less likely for me to execute a trade when I know most of the orders aren't displayed - and it makes the order book look as though liquidity is even worse that it already is (which is really bad).
I used to use them and gox but prefer bitfinex over both now

Shorting BTC is the most retarded thing one can do. Who the fuck is so clueless to short an asset that has historically grown multiple hundred % points per year?
Including leverage in the sporting equation is the cherry on the cake. We had a couple of guys bragging about how they were shorting with 5:1 leverage last summer and we know how they ended up: broke in just a few minutes, they couldn't even realize what the fuck was going on.
I just hope that some of the guys that fear Government retaliation already recouped their fiat investment so they can put their mind to rest. It helps. Then you will give zero fucks whatever the price does. This is game is about much more than just fiat profits.
I shorted last night and came out ahead, so I guess im lucky

I do. Alot of indicators are starting to point at buy. Will we dip down? Sure. But I believe we're in recovery mode now.

BTC.sx - Leveraged Bitcoin Trading. Simply use Bitcoin to take advantage of a rising or falling Bitcoin price.
You have good experience with them? Good liquidity?
Leverage trading can be bad if you don't know what your doing. Try it out but with a very small amount.
I prefer Bitfinex, they offer 2:1, 2.5:1 & 4:1. I currently use 4:1, but its very risky. With the market swings like this its very easy to make money.

This week was the perfect storm. We have a bunch of people that need to cash out for Christmas (I know not everyone celebrates Christmas but I think many do

) couple that with the China fiasco and we have a nice big crash. Just thankful it was not worse really.
Next week there will be Christmas money flooding in, and a few people that want to buy before the end of the year for whatever reason, (Perhaps because Second Market is giving a discount on fees if they buy in before the end of 2013 for one example)
It will go up before the end of the year. I have no doubts.
I think you nailed it

, I am all back in BTC, I lost 10% of my stash, but I made allot of profit the last couple of weeks, I am going to stop trading and hold and will not risk again so I wont lose all the profit I made so far.
I was thinking about to cash but then "again" decided to buy back and with for the long term.
Catching top and bottom is pure luck which in sure you know.

read it last night, linked it here as well. Tera felt it was repetition of stuff already mentioned. Others explained to me how the negative commission for market makers worked seems all around interesting. I mean it is not impossible he's just putting on a front. All the while knowing its closing down...but I doubt it will and huobi is the volume holder so it really depends on how they get cracked down upon if a crack down appears.
Will china keep us busy the whole of January? Would've thought China wasnt that importing anymore, but i guess i was wrong.
IMO unless you believe huobi is faking the volume ( least tinfoil is bots self trading @ 0%) , then it is insane to not take caution noticing they have a 54% of the btc volume. then its btc-e 12.11%, stamp 11.79%, btcchina 7.99%, gox 7.60%.
So yeah it ain't over till the PBOC sing.
Also if its fake volume..then when proven true it would reveal there are less coins in the market then some think.. which would likely cause a price rise.
Is there any real proof of this "fake" volume? I just don't buy it.

Infinite supply on Stamp. Bearish as hell.
Insiders are selling while enthusiasts are buying.

I've confirmed this by sources. SHOTR if you've already SODL!!! This is scary!
So if insiders are selling and enthusiasts are buying, the enthusiasts will still continue to profit because they will still be using BTC. So what if a few pu$$ies want to jump ship. Let the weak hands run off and let the big boys play.
What if the big boys are jumping ship?

India may not have alot of wealth, but the people there cherish gold. Even the poorest people in India keep gold in their hands. The fact that Bitcoin has so many gold-like properties is my reason why I think Bitcoin would do great in India. Although the Indian government might not like it.
I understand, but can they cherish something that isn't tangible?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/samanthasharf/2014/01/15/10-one-perspective-on-what-bitcoin-will-be-worth-in-2014/Bitcoin began 2013 at $13 a coin, only to ring in 2014 around $800 with worldwide fascination driving the 60-times gain. But according to Boston University Finance Professor Mark Williams the price has really been driven by an influential few. Just 47 people own 29% of all outstanding Bitcoins; 930 own 50%. Another 10,000 folks bring the total owned by the largest coin holders to roughly 75%, leaving a sliver to be split among about 1 million small-change Bitcoiners.
Williams, a former trader and bank examiner for the Federal Reserve, argues that in 2013 the 47 powers coordinated to push prices up. They counted on what economists call Greater Fools. Investors make money when someone is willing to pay a higher price for a security than you did — Greater Fool Theory states that there is always someone willing to pay a higher price. But Williams sees the broader market wising up to Bitcoin’s limitations and taking back control in 2014.
Awesome article. Conclusion? Load up on silly alts before the fools greater than you.

Volume is incredibly low.
I just encountered BlackCoin and I think it's a very interesting pump concept. The coin switched from PoW to PoS. Now the only way to mine it is indirectly, and to facilitate that, there is a multipool, bcmultipool.com, which mines scrypt alts, dumps for BTC, and buys BC with BTC. It then pays out in BC.
The effect is that every 20-60 minutes there is a market order for BC. The BC bid keeps going up. Also, whatever scrypt is leading the return on difficulty gets dumped. If enough miners decide to take payouts in BC in this way, BC would then drain the marketcap of all the scrypt coins.
I like this idea, because I think its good for BTC. It's a layered market, and it reduces the fog of uncertainty regarding competitors by dumping and crushing the value of a large number of trash coins. Not sure if it is actually an improvement over just switch-mining with BTC payout, though. I might be.
But surely the fact that the last stage of Blackcoin mining is dumping the BTC, makes it not good for BTC? You get a big BTC dump whenever the blackcoin pools pay out. The more popular blackcoin gets, the bigger the hash, the more alt > btc mined, the bigger the BTC dumps. The value of blackcoin keeps rising, so few are buying straight back in to btc when they get paid. So the net result is more bitcoin getting dumped at current buy order.
I'm mining on blackcoinpool.com with 4.2MH and getting about 0.0034 btc worth or blackcoin a day, which is twice what I've been getting of pure btc on multipools. I also bought 10,000 blackcoin at 9000 satoshi, it's now at 30,000+ :/ I'm very wary of altcoins, but this has been incredible so far.
Oh I am sure that black will add some vol in the short run but srriously do you think anyone will hold the bulk of their wealth in blackcoin, which is completely unusable currency? 90% off black gets turned to btc. The rest, the dumb money, is turned to fiat via btc. (Numbers out of a hat.) In the long run it adds holders, and it weakens all the scamcoins.
Blackcoin will have its use/purpose later. The addition of coinkite will help.
I've been a large holder even at its lows and I am blown away by the returns I have
I would also encourage you to buy more, but if your mining on the pool thats good enough

Yup looks like others are doing the same. Price is stagnating while longs take their profit. All we've been seeing is current traders trading and taking leverage, the real pump will be when the new money starts coming in which should happen after this coinbase announcement goes mainstream. This week should be very interesting

I saw the stagnation as well and I figured there would of been a dump sooner than later so I exited.
I jumped back in at 281 which I feel is ok.

I think last night's pump was simply caused by some people buying based on the Coinbase news, expecting it to cause a bull run, without realising that everyone else already knew about it ages ago, so the price was already factored in. Now the price is simply correcting itself back to yesterday's price c.250.

The recent "flash-bubble" created by the Coinbase announcement shows that the "West" can lift the price by at least +50 dollars (~250 to ~300) with suitable rumors.
I am assuming that the Chinese did not pay attention to the rumor, as they have not paid attention to other similar news in the past. I am also assuming that the gentler upward trend that started around 2015-01-15 comes from China, not from the "West"
I still don't know what caused the mini-bubble that started on 2014-05-20. If it was created in the West, too, then it would imply that the "West" can pump the price by +200 $/BTC (modulo the possibility that the increment may depend on the starting price level).
You are aware that a single 3.5 million dollar market order on bitfinex takes the price up to 470 dollars. If big money wants the price to rise, it rises, or falls or whatever they want, and for tiny amounts of cash in wall street terms. There is a limit to what can be shorted (available btc for lending) on Western exchanges, but a single motivated individual (say Tim Draper) could at any moment drive up the price and keep it there.
Imagine if the price was pumped to 400 by a big buy and then a 50 million dollar bid support wall appeared on coinbase.
Whales would never do this as it would benefit us and not them. What they do is scare the price around, stop hunt, pull in the unskilled traders' money and use the increased volatility to take positions. The fake pump to $272 earlier with those upthrust/distribution candles on unusually high volume is a good example. (Thar she blows!) That tells me we are going down before going up.
How low do you think we're headed?

What's amazing about it? Sell high, buy low, classic bear strategy. Rarely fails since November 2013.
I don't see the avalanche effect needed to rebuy at the bottom. It springs back up right when someone stops dumping 1000s of BTC. It's just someone cashing out thousands of
BTC that's all. If this was a manipulation attempt (not sure if it's over) it has failed

this is huobi doing the 'chinese panic' dumping bitcoins so they don't end up being the bagholders .

west: pump!!! break it!!!
china: nope
LTC/CNY goes down LTC/BTC Goes up BTC/USD goes down. LTC/CNY goes up to get more people to trade btc for ltc, and keep the LTC/USD price at a target. Then they take the BTC and sell for USD once they hit their target pump.

when LTC/USD is stalled and LTC/BTC Drops then you know bots are selling LTC for BTC and getting ready for a BTC/USD Pump

Edit. For those who may wish to use this layout the id # is 1297

At this point I feel we're going down. We will go back up, but short term down. A lot of people are still hurt from what happened this week. I am thinking of opening an account on bitfinex, unless somebody advises against it, if not would anybody have a referred code for it? thanks
Bitfinex with their inside trading (manipulating).. could be new Gox soon. So yah, deposit only as much as you are willing to risk.
You logic doesn't make sense to me.
Assuming their insider information really helps them to gain an effective advantage and thus continuously make them money then you should assume they want to keep this operation running (as is) as long as possible. Why would you assume they are and will continue to constantly loosing money while trying to exploit their presumed (but technically proven to be ineffective) advantage (assuming they make more losses than profits) or choose to steal everything (thus becoming actual criminals) rather than continuing an already profitable operation (without effective legal problems)?
I think the Gox insider trading (Markus/Willy) was presumed to be a last (failed) attempt to recover funds which had been lost already (due to an earlier hack). But the new theories tend to think otherwise (those bots didn't belong to Karpeles but a [inside or outside] hacker who used them to steal the funds).
Well... they admitted inside trading. They already have a gold mine (fees + lending), so why would they need to destroy they reputation with inside trading? I would say there is something wrong. I did a lot of trading there and I still do, but only with a small % of my coins. Just my thoughts

I will never trade there again. I use Okcoin now and I like the interface and iOS app. I prefer trading futures since I can deposit a small amount and get a good trading position. I'm not a fan of leaving coins on an exchange.. Also the live help is fantastic

mmmm hedge funds
http://podcast.runtogold.com/2015/01/btck-128-2015-01-24/Starting @ 7:00, this is Tony Gallippi of BitPay... The whole podcast is worth a listen, but this part stands out:
We manage a treasury of bitcoins, dollars, euros, Canadian [dollars], and pounds. Constantly we're managing our portfolio to make sure we have enough of each currency, so we are always in the markets trading... It's interesting today in the markets, I would say a year ago, or maybe a year and a half ago, the markets did not have enough liquidity. We couldn't have sold a million dollars worth of Bitcoin in a day without dramatically moving the markets. But things have changed. There's a lot more participants now. We can move a million dollars a day and you wouldn't even notice that we're trading just because there's a lot more volume and more buyers and sellers in the market.
We also have a lot of hedge funds that want to accumulate Bitcoin positions, so when we have these huge spikes we also have some off-market opportunities to sell those. You'd be surprised at how many Wall Street firms are starting to accumulate Bitcoin positions that aren't talking about Bitcoin yet. There's a lot going on behind the scenes, as well as some private family wealth funds and things like that.

I don't either but I'm not selling into it because <$250 is just too damn cheap to sell. I'm just hodling with my measly 58 BTC and small pile of fiat until it either goes over $300 or back down sub $220.

We bounced off sub $200 with such heavy volume that it will now serve as a huge resistance point. We will need similar volume to break below it, which I highly doubt we will get when looking at the relatively weak volume on the recent dips.
Keep wishing trolls and noobs. I highly doubt you'd be buying that low anyway as the news would be horrible, the buying window would be very small and you'd just get caught up in the panic.

I'm thinking something like this... these play out all the time on every timescale. So, no sub $200.

What phase are we at?
I think 5 or 6, but I would refer to bassclef since he is more knowledgeable
Bears simply don't have enough coins to take us to sub 200. Now if this bitstamp issue is something bigger regarding deposits then it could possibly trigger panic, or people will simply move off the exchange.

Yes, I am short. But considering there was about 400 to 219 a couple minutes ago, there is now 2200 to 219, and Magic Beanswisdom is down for a few of the exchanges so people can't track the walls... well, those things make me think yes... people on here might want to know.
I see you are long!
I'm long too but I trade on daily candles. Anything below 6h/4h is noise to me. The way I see it we're moving into oversold territory on the oscillators on declining sell volume with narrower candle spreads... the current daily candle has a decent wick pointing downward, indicating that the market absorbed anything in that range... even the 3d candle is turning into a no supply candle, pretty pathetic for bears. I think the markets have simply ground to a halt. Last selloff was meh. Noob/bad trader/gambler shorts have increased to 20k thinking we'll retest $200 when in reality there is almost nobody left to sell. Perfect opportunity for a pump.
The dump this morning looks like a failure. No panic sells, just the Bears who opened up the shorts. Today would be a great day to squeeze.

don't worry when the chinese wake up they will see that big red 'chinese panic' flash dump and they will start the panic mode and huobi will shutdown and and all the chinese will start unloading their bags on the rumor that bitcoin is going to 170.
Is a $10 drop really enough to cause that much panic?

Is a $10 drop really enough to cause that much panic?
The only people panicking are those that dumped 5000 coins on finex hoping the price would fall in a cascade of selling.
In 30 days we have US regulation coming onto statute.
Well there are 2 options I can see
1) dump more coins (a lot more) and try to cause panic

Interesting, I wouldn't expect that many margin calls from such a small price bump. I wonder if they simply closed out.

LOL No.... Eastern Standard, Toronto time.
I used to play music in bar bands back in the 1960's, '70s and '80s. Didn't finish
work until after 2:00 AM so by the time I relaxed and ate, bedtime was 4:00 or 5:00AM.
After enough time the old biological clock got reset to a noon rising.

It seems to be 3 billion hong kong dollars = 386 million US dollars = 1.7 million BTC. If these were already stolen and sold though (with just a recent closure) that could help account for all of this downward pressure we've been having.
That downward pressure is just the usual bears shorting.

Just a small reminder why the orderbook of Bitfinex often looks more bullish(than Stamp with its meager 3 mio USD). Due to the possibiliy of margin trading and using Bitcoin as collateral it is not necessary to deposit real or fresh USD over there. A lot of those bids are probably from early adopters using their huge BTC stash tryin to protect their investment with it. However as the price gets lower and lower their available net worth that is needed to place orders also gets lower, which leads to less and less USD bid sum if the price goes down. My guess is that 60-70% of the bids in the orderbook are created with BTC used as collateral, which could lead to a death spiral if we should get another huge crash below 150$ where people actually try to withdraw USD and no longer look to increase their BTC positions. Please correct me if i am wrong!

Huh, interesting! It really seems more and more people start to get nervous by the resilience of the price. I'm starting to believe more and more that we may only need one final flash-crash to send this thing back into bull-mode at last!
They can barely keep the price below $220. If it goes anywhere near 190-205 the volume is gonna be so insane and the squeeze is going to be so painful.

I've been waiting almost a month now for my ~$205 coins and I'm starting to fear that they may not be on the menu. I have thousands off the order books set aside for a drop should it come. I wonder how many others have also. I just don't see a short squeeze as likely until the pump and dumpers can credibly (credible to the naive) claim a double bottom.
Not that I mind much. I like to see a stable price. The longer it lasts, the better it is for Bitcoin.
Bears can't keep the price below 220 for more than a few hrs. I can't imagine how fast the price would bounce if it went below 200.

I am more considering security issues over bitcoin exchanges. That's what we need to fight for now if we want the train again.

The gray-haired Westerner may be William Dennis Atwood, the director of the parent company who seem to have left shortly before MyCoin.hk collapsed.
The CCB reports that 43 investors between the ages of 21 and 71 years old lost anywhere between HK$50,000 to HK$15m each when the exchange ceased operations. Such estimates would place the total consumer loss at HK$63m, or $8.12m at press time.

It looks a lot like a failed breakout on the 3-day charts. If it falls below support around 210, it's going to get nasty.
If there going to take it below 210 it needs to be done before Monday morning since the risk of additional fiat can come in

Using that logic: The employment market is alarming. A lot of people have been hired, but that means more people could lose their jobs.
Im trying to analyze the market from both ends. What has me worried is the amount of swaps available. I play the market both short term day trading and long term and long term I don't care. The short term is what I am cautious about and with what I see it just means ill stay on the sidelines till a move occurs.

Probably means that there is less chance of a short squeeze at these low depths.
And it's more likely that they'll re-load their short positions on any signs of strength.
I don't think there is any chance of a short squeeze around these levels at all. If anything I do agree with what you mentioned about reloading. If we break up into the 240's-250 thats when we will start to see some action.
If anything I think longs are being slightly squeezed atm..Some more than others. Quite a bit of longs opened up at 250+ just 2 days ago, but there have been a few riding this down

long 'exiting' is bullish? or they 'shorted' their longs?

Well that all depends, if a lot more exit then it wouldn't be good since it would create additional selling pressure.
I think its just cashing out from this mornings run up from 235-246. It could be bearish, or they could just be taking profits.

If you short while you still have longs going they cancel each other out. By the way longs getting closed could also be LTC longs closing on Finex.
That is possible as well, but given the decline in price when I noticed the longs being closed it seems that it was btc(longs) exiting. Yes I could be wrong and its just a coincidence, but i'm doing my best to analyze the numbers and data I see.

If we pop above 240 i don't think it would be that long. I think we're gonna test 225-228 again within the next 24 hours.

Looking at it closer, the Bitstamp buy may have been just a panic buy because of the OKCoin upswing and perhaps didn't affect it too much.

@Damiano we need more than that to get a proper squeeze. And I don't believe in a squeeze before the sr-coin auction anyway. However, if the bottom is as firm as it looks, we could have a helluva a spring waiting for after the auction.

Losses will be catastrophic one way or another.

I don't think many of the longs are excessively leveraged. I am wagering that there are many more of them who are leveraged to a smaller degree. I know I am. You'd have to dump to double digits to force my margin call, and that's only if I don't post more margin by then. The long squeeze to ~$166
should have taught us all a lesson. The short squeeze to $475 was far enough back that it might have slipped down the memory hole for some of the bears.
Who knows, but i'm sure there are at least 10-15% that arn't in an ideal position.
I know camolist went long on thursday night somewhere around 242, wether he sold or not I don't know. Most the longs accumulated probably in the region of 160-220, but if they are using btc as leverage it could get nasty if we hit 210 or even below 200.

Since were braking up from here, if bull volume fails were probably ending up in 160$ around double bottom
Explain how? I don't see this as a possibility at all.
If the push is not strong enough at this time more sideways action is more likely than a dump.
The way I read the market there is absolutely no incentive to sell coins below $220.
Sideways action is usually bearish.

Depends. Sideways (on falling volume, even) could either lead to a sudden break of resistance like in May, or of support, like in November.

Your guess is as good as mine, although I'm slightly leaning towards upwards, because of the sheer size of the January capitulation.
Hopefully your correct.
Im hoping for another small drop so I can pickup some more, but at the same time i'm slightly short in futures atm, but I have a very tight stoploss incase something goes against me.

The buyers at the auction will probably hold on to the coins for awhile
They are a lot more likely to hold than exchange users IMO. The fears of them dumping on exchanges are pretty silly really.
My thoughts too. It creates a scenario where businesses who normally would not risk wiring money to an unlicensed exchange can buy large amounts from a trusted source. The bidders will be professional investors, not kiddies who trade their 2btc back and forth and troll Internet forums talking their books.
Not only that, but professional investors are the only ones with that sort of capital to throw around and most likely they will be holding for the long term.

Because unlike regular people,
professional investors whales hate making quick profits, preferring to lose money. Slowly.

Yeah owning a boat is expensive as hell. Repairs, fuel, rent, winter storage, crew (if you have a yacht), taxes... you need a steady income for something like that, not a one-time Bitcoin cashout.
Lotto winners and professional athletes/musicians who come from humble beginnings run into this problem all the time---they underestimate how expensive a "rich" lifestyle is. Not to mention you have family and friends who feel entitled to handouts coming out of the woodwork.
You definitely have to be somewhat batty to go into large boat ownership unless you have major money to burn. It's a much better plan to butter up to a future BTC trillionaire, use one's masculine wiles to marry them and then sail away into the future with their gains.
My cousin's husband got a boat from an inheritance and the repairs and upkeep alone on it are ridiculous.

So how do we know that some whale or whales weren't planning on buying 50K coins or more on the open market and instead are buying them at auction? In other words, How do we know that this sale isn't already priced into the market? It's not like this auction is a surprise or anything.
If it ain't, then why is it still in the talks and making people think they will see some hikes because of this?
Everyone's talking about the roller-coasters, I think we should let them talk and the naked price action will speak soon.

You are true, there's actually nothing surprising as there are exchanges where whales can buy those many coins without just going for an auction and harm their anonymity...
At best there is a small risk reduction after the auction is finished, the fiat paid and everyone is happy. That means, after the completion, sell the news. But sell what? Bitcoin or dollars?
Anyone putting up this kind of capital is a serious invester. No one is going to buy these and dump them right away.

Agreed. The technicals are here, just not enough Fiat on exchanges to push further.
Lets hope folks who previously cashed out higher come back in the game.

well, we can still hit 360 and then go into 100 territory, so I wouldnt be so cocky if I were bull.
and volume means shit. we all know that from china exchanges. you bullshave noticed that even china is following bitsatmp. any explanation?

You know the reason. The one I've been regurgitating over and over like a broken record*... all other things being equal, non leveraged non-zero fee volume has more impact than leveraged zero fee volume.
Doesn't mean Finex or Chinese volume doesn't matter, obviously not. But it means, Finex matters despite OKC's or BTCChina's volume being higher by a factor of 2 or 3, and even Bitstamp matters, despite volume being 1/10 of the big Chinese exchanges.
"Matters", for a brief moment, that is. Don't think it'll change the course, just delay the arrival a bit

* Yes, I like my metaphors mixed, not stirred

could be that or it could be that bitstamp is the only legit exchange that isnt involved in some form of fracional reserve/cooking of books. I am still laughing my ass at that bitfinex guy saying that he is trading on his own exchange.
Well considering that Stamp have lost 17,000 coins (and a lot of trust in the process), that seems like the least likely explanation.
Did they ever buy back those 17k? I haven't been following them

Realistically I think the situation is that longs are way over extended at a ridiculous interest rate and if the price doesn't start to move upwards soon enough we will come crashing down. Just like how BJA spoke about a cascade of shorts going up, I think the tables have flipped.
Ever since
BTC broke 300 I have had a bad feeling and it's getting worse and worse. I am continuing to buy, but i'm out of leverage till we figure out which way the market is going to go. Id rather jump in late than get burned.

I don't know the exact number but I think 40,000 odd coins scammed & stolen.
Presumably them being dumped caused this avalanche.

lol no
130k would take us to double digits combined with the stop losses etc.. in any case dumping more than 10k at once is pointless since you don't let the market recover

Well, I only lost 15 bitcoin today...

that not good. Did you sell to realize those losses?
I had a 5 btc long that got margin called on futures, and lost 10 from taking losses on a long I had open since 286.
Feeling sick, worst loss in my 3 years of trading bitcoin

Dude, the margin call is nasty as you've seen. Stop playing that game and trading when the vipers are typically on the other end of the game. Just buy and hold with your expendables and wait til the market comes back up instead of setting yourself up to get crunched. My God... Don't be afraid to take a minimal loss but manually sell when things get too underwater for you on your own. This is the double loss playing the trading game on the long or short that all relaxed players should chill on.
Now, you're gonna see the wrath of the trolls. I've seen this play out before and never would open myself up to this unfolding on my face like that. The vast majority of traders (like 66%+) will get nailed, that's why people should just take their stance and let it ride w/ a short stop loss in a mental fashion.
Yeah you're right, I'm all out of margin now. Moving to storage and taking a break for a while, good luck and happy trading everyone
Was it 20x or 10x? 20x is scary shit which I still dabble in here and there.

There could be a possible dump on both btc/ltc. There seems to be improvements on the ltcgear front and there is a slight chance we could be paid (for those who own ltcgear shares). There's about 13-14 weeks of funds that could potentially be paid out and I know a lot of people need to convert to fiat. In terms on how much can or could be paid out were talking in upwards of 2-4 million (possibly more). I think the site is split on 50/50 btc/ltc payment

Hell if I know. I thought for sure I would of woken up to 240's. It's a long way back to 300 and almost 9k to 290. Seems like 260 isn't going to hold for to much longer. Whoever is selling is doing it a lot smarter by letting the bids recover a bit.

Some have..but i'm more curious how things will play out if we start hitting into the 230's. I'd image some stop losses are in there. A lot of people went long at 290-298 trying to take down 300 the other week and they are upside down right now.

Walls on both sides of the orderbook. I think we're in a holding pattern until we find out more about when the otc fund starts trading, and how much demand there will be for it. It'll be a good chance to mark the price up ahead of those wanting to get in.
Edit: I think there is a good chance there will be solid demand based on overall professional interest from Wall Steet, anecdotal evidence from Winklevii and the guys @ Bitpay (who trade a with basket of currencies) about hedge funds and investment firms looking to take positions, also high interest in the government auctions.
It opens the doors for people who don't wish to open up a Coinbase / Circle / Gemini account. Owning btc without the hassle of having a wallet is a plus for a lot of americans.

Yes. 12m or 6m swaps chart leads to conclusion that big price drop = longs drop, and we're pretty high with longs now.
Ofc we don't know for sure, but maybe longs needs to drop/crash so we can go higher in price.

Which market is best for leveraged buying/selling Bitcoins atm??? 0.49% daily?? Where?
You can leverage 20x on OkCoin futures, which is probably the highest leverage I've seen currently in regards to bitcoin. You have to be careful though as future markets are more easily manipulated than the typical non-leveraged buy/sell order books of exchanges.
I agree
Best advice is build positions small and slow or have enough btc available to protect your position

no, we must maintain this illusion of a perpetual rally-big pump coming up, so all of you noob traders could carry some of our heavy bags.
if you lose some $ in the process due to the fees and sideways movement even better. exchange operators and day traders are grateful.
I guess i've been extremely lucky on the most part with 1 fuck up from last night. I didn't close my short before it popped back up, so I missed out on 2-3 btc profit.

ahhh you must've not closed it in the high/mid 230's before it went back to mid 240's ... that's a pretty easy fuckup to make though ... it did *look* like it was headed off a cliff and then popped back up very fast ... a very well orchestrated bleeding shakeout if i do say so ... that one nicked me too as i sold low 240s and bought mid 240s having waited too long trying to get low 230's or better ... i imagine more than 1 person got some whiplash on that one ... at least the market looks like it wants to try upwards for the last few hours ... so ... doom , sunnyside up

... mmmmm doom eggs for breakfast ...
Well I saw it dump while I was watching walking dead. I was gonna wait till a commercial so see where it was then, but it shot back up

Oh rly? I'm here since 2012, most often bullish. Then there came the Nov 2013 bubble and I never saw entering such a horde of degenerated people in one move on any other board. And yeah, 98% of them were Bulls with a huge delusion of grandeur. You can blame the ongoing heavy bear market to them. But they will get what they deserve. There's more bear market on the horizon.

Wow, thanks! There is no way for me to import the list automatically, but I'll use it as a reference and ignore when I see them. And I will start right now to weed out the most current. Thanks again!

These posters will stand out like a sore thumb and you'll get used to the commentary of garbage so you'll be more easily attuned to the new accounts that these puppets make. I don't mind bears like tarmi or skyvaleeny but the rest of these folks are just trolls and likely 20 of the above are all the same person.
As mentioned real bears like tarmi and sky etc shouldn't be ignored, but I can easily see how they can be put into the category of trolls.

XMR's 30-day volume is ~6,500 BTC. If someone were actually trying to use it to mix 1,000s of BTCs, it would be much higher.
They are not trying rather they're succeeding.

Unless they get the april fool joke as well and give up?

no, this time we will launch to 245.
then lower lows and then another bounce to 242.
till the real panic starts.
If 236 breaches 221 will come quickly. After that I don't know since were in stop loss territory..probably cascade down fast from there. If bulls step in and shoot above 250-251 we might have a few days in that range, but it doesn't look like it can happen right now.

how long am I going to have to wait??? huh?
Yesterday I was feeling bearish- VERY bearish. I felt the most bearish I have ever felt.
I even went online and was looking for a high paying job. Bitcoin was failing me.
Perhaps the fact a permabull like me was feeling this way is a true sign we reached full capitulation and we are finally on our way up?
Hopefully the wait is over!

Keep looking for that job. Bitcoin will not save you from needing to work for your money. If you don't think so, then that is a true sign the worst is still to come.
It isn't like I don't work, however, as a mostly "at home" mom I don't work full-time. I do a real estate transaction here and there and some other side jobs. I was just thinking of finding something more permanent and full-time. It would actually put a strain on the family to do so though. Another Bitcoin bubble would make things just a little easier. I am sure I am not the only one on here that feels that way.

I think we will see some action in the next few hours. Okcoin contracts settle very soon and it looked like a lot of contracts were shorted earlier. I saw several big orders of over 1k. Good morning Bitcoinland. We finally got a little movement, I see.
$10 isn't much of a dip to buy on but I suppose it's better than no dip at all so I'm glad I was up really early today and had a chance to rush down and buy a few more coins while the price was down.
By the time I got home the skid had slowed and the price had actually risen a couple of bucks. Lucky timing I guess.
How long now before we're back up over $250 or do we finally break below $240 after a week of failed attempts?
In lieu of popcorn I'll just have to make do with Mocha-Java. Mmmm.
I guess bears don't really have that many spare coins left in order to try to push the price any lower now. The bid-side is filled nicely and the ask side still rather slim. Unfortunately, only Finex is going up, the others seem a bit depressed (especially Huobi)...
Only 3k coins from 234 to 218...

The opportunity for bears to at least squeeze some longs is close and I don't think they will give up right here. In my mind I can see a few different ways how this could play out.

We get it, you are short. No need to push it Damiano.
Also those three chartists you mentioned are just following the trend. They (perhaps correctly) will continue to predict the price is going down until the exponential trendline is broken. How many chartists predicted the last two bubbles?

I play both sides of the field

If he believes we're going down I don't see the problem. WO must be open to others than retards like you and me who can only make money on bubbles.
I enjoy reading and researching TA on both sides of the spectrum. There needs to be a balance of both bears and bulls within this thread. The trolling on the other hand is difficult to tolerate (I don't have anyone on ignore) occasionally nlc will post something that will make me laugh.

Is $235 considered doom nowadays?

You would think, since we touched this level 3 times in the past month alone, the bears would just give a shrug instead celebrating like we're at penny BTC already...
about doom....I really dont care, just >
THAT'S what capitulation looks like!
Not here, not now. Also volume would be a lot higher.
Bid side is very weak as well, although it could be bulls trying for a trap. I still think were heading lower.

We are at the point where we'll see epic squeeze. The problem I have is I just don't know in which direction.
Look at the last 15 months. look at the power of dumps killing days of rally in just a few hours. And look at the low volume during recovery. The trend is unchanged..why bet on a slim chance of trend reversal

Also, seems like underwater bull whale is out of ammo! Margin calling is going to rain coins beneath 200.
I would think 210-220's are the sweet spot to start the cascade. Once it starts it's going to get ugly.

Who is afraid of the big scary asks on finex.

It reminds me of yesterday just before the 7k coin dump.
The bids were stacked up in huge walls towering over a flatland of asks. It might have appeared to a beginner that the price was about to soar up.
Instead it dipped by $10.
Now it's the other way around. The asks tower over the flat bids. It just proves how unreliable the order book is as a prediction tool.
It could go either way.
I bet 10k bitcoins for 2.6mil$ can be super deal for some people! They will come around

OR
It takes one early adopter who has 30k+ bitcoins to risk 10% of his stash... send it to finex and go max long. Any candidates?

I think they have already done that

It isn't so hard to understand the semantics here. No TA EVER worked for BTC in critical moments. Plus all we do is trying to eradicate our ignorance via lines and pennants. It may be a way that works on other things. BTC proved all this wrong. It does the exact opposite...
To me it always seems that TA with BTC works perfectly, a lot more than in other markets.
It's almost scary how predictable it can be sometimes. Especially in key moments.
Following a pattern while trying to put your money where your mouth is, is not the best strategy IMHO. Maybe it works for you; but seriously don't let it turn into a habit. This is a nice read that explains thorougly why I believe so:

Looks like it was shorts closing..Why they would close here baffles me. Looks like longs went up a tiny bit.

When the dust settles there is no room for cloud mining. For cloud mining to makes sense you're dependent on ever increasing prices. And if you think prices will shoot up like that you should probably just buy coins.
Wrong. Both mining and cloud mining are the most effective when prices are stable. This way you can profit even if there's completely no price movement for a year. If the value goes up holding becomes more profitable and if the prices go down both mining and trading become unprofitable. The only thing that can bring you profit in such case is trading (waiting for small bounces and bull traps to sell).
I tried trading when the price was somehow stable (about 1-10$ bumps). But I never managed to make profit from it, because of the high fees. I didnt have much capital, only 0.5 btc and managed to only make 10$ in 2 weeks.
Am I doing something wrong or is my capital just too small?
.5 is to small unless you use leverage but with that it's to dangerous

That's right. With 0.5 invested and a $10 bump, in an ideal situation, you'll get $5 -tax. It's not worth it really, unless you're doing it to learn.
You can of course profit on these small moves, most traders do, but the more coins you have the better.
I usually start with 2 btc @x20 leverage and work my way up, once I have 6-8 I cash out the extra and start again with 2. Given the current market conditions I haven't cashed out yet since the potential to profit is very high. This bear wave is strong and I don't see it ending anytime soon.

I'm leaning yes.
We got here from 3k shorts closing (mistake? or ones being closed from being open much higher) and the drop from 1k longs closing. Plus there was some buying (manipulation?). Bitfinex bulls are addicted to margin and I find it hard to believe this was fresh fiat sitting around jumping in (no longs opened)

What happens to Bitfinex if the long squeeze comes and the bids get wiped? Will the dollar lenders lose their money if the longs are unable to close?
Thats an excellent question.
I can't see anything on the website talking about this, but if orders cannot be filled while being liquidated I would assume the lender would be at a loss then, unless there is an insurance fund available to cover this or bitfinex would cover the difference?
Okcoin has a pretty good engine when it comes to liquidation, they also have an insurance fund. The shitty thing is on Okcoin they will prioritize high risk positions and prematurely liquidate them earlier than they should. I was force liquidated a month ago $1 early.

Yet the price hovering at the same level it has been for like a week now. If nothing significant happens (hint: Monday) then don't expect anything dramatic happening in price. Nevertheless, I expect some movement if CERTAIN factors we've been waiting for A LONG time to come, hit the streets in two days... but then again; it's bitcoinland. You never know for sure what's gonna happen.

Well we're actually $15 lower. Last Saturday we hovered 236-240 and stayed there till Monday morn around 11am(my time) then the dump hit.

I think there's a bit more downside (sorry guys). Technically things aren't looking great unless you can call this low volume chopping around a bottom--I can't. 3d macd solidly in the red. Daily chart bear flag in the works looking a bit foreboding. Whales seem intent on getting a panic shakeout near 200s or lower. Save your longs until then when everyone's freaking out.
All this chopping around from 220-230 is fake. The people who do get caught in the middle are those who are buying those shorts.

P.S. Be careful while quoting trolls. It's common here to put on ignore trolls along with those who quotes them.
Note: The reason for this is because they often use sock puppets to support themselves. Quoting trolls is not a bad thing if it is topical and poignant. Anyone that iggies you for adding topical contest is simply a fool. If I see an ignored poster quoted making valid arguments, I will usually un-ignore them.
+1
This is why I don't use the ignore function. I can easily filter through the shit, but once in a while a sock account will make a valid and well constructed comment.

I pretty much share the same short-term view.
Here's DanV's newest projection.
<snip>

So effectively the guy that predicted Bitcoin's spiralling down to, what, $50 has now predicted a turnaround and bounce-off of about current levels? Interesting turn of events.
No. If you understand what he has written on TV, and the chart labelling, he is opening up to the possibility that we are still in a corrective move from the $166 low. See his green line to $360, labelled [C] - that would mark the end of the correction (from $166) and resumption of the downtrend to new lows at $xx(x?). IDK if this significantly alters his downside target, but it would certainly drag this bear market out several months longer than his previous count, which had us starting the move to new lows from $300 a month ago. Pick your poison ...
EW counts evolve with price action. To him this current action does not fit well with his previously published chart, so he is publishing a new one, as any sensible analyst would do.
Remember - the best EW analysts have multiple counts running in parallel at any one time. It is only by excluding those that are invalidated and focussing on those with the higher probabilities (according to EW rules) that they stay on track. But they will keep an eye on alt-counts in order to switch if the primary count is invalidated/looks less probable.
Here is the link to the chart with his commentary:
https://www.tradingview.com/chart/BTCUSD/EUytkasj-BTCUSD-FURTHER-SHORT-TERM-WEAKNESS-IN-STORE-WITH-OF-TARGET-210/I doubt that the breaking down would stop at 210$. Once 4h and 6h MACD divergence would turn negative, IMO large dumps would break the key 210$ support level.
So if the market will go up to 300+, it has to start pumping soon, without any major drops before.
I think it's to late for a pump to stop the divergence.

I don't believe in TA's but things are not necessarily bearish in my opinion. As predicted earlier in this thread (also visible on the chart) May's the time. Not long before we see some real action; do you really think that we're going down after 1 year of decline? The way I see it, bears are running out of time... buy now or get burnt.

To me it seems like they are stalling. Either way this spring has been coiling for almost a week now and the price is going to explode one way or another.

Damn, what a frustrating price level. The market sure does love that ~230-ish.
I have one final round of funds to invest long, but can't deal with any more severe down. I went all in at 230 in January (yes, January!), but recently got back out at 238.
Want to get back in long, fire and forget, but damn which way are we swinging here? I'd be more comfortable if we had a confirmed solid support above 200, but don't know if and when we would ever re-test that.
Have you considered that Bitcoin may, in fact, be maturing and becoming more like money? This implies stability. With bitcoin's hallmark volatility gone & progressively tightening government regulation wiping out 'legal gray areas' for us to exploit, bitcoin ceases to be an attractive, semi-legal and, arguably, less stigmatic form of online gambling/money laundering vehicle - the very things which made it so attractive initially.
With Dark Markets proving more and more vulnerable and bitcoin's floundering price (causal relationship here, though seemingly apparent, is far from rigorously proven), the crypto community is becoming more fractured and toxic.

TL;DR: Mom's not coming home 'till late, so...
~Lo <3
One of the biggest contributors in making crypto a stupid meme complains that the climate is toxic.. lol. Good, that is a good sign that all these dumb alt developers are giving up and soon natural selection will make BTC reign supreme.
