But combined with the bid sum being back on track I think those are strong indicators for buying pressure.

(Although we have a healthier ask sum this time so hopefully the rise will be more gradual)
Please have a look at where the bid sum actually resides. Half of it is below $60/Ƀ, $2M are even below $25/Ƀ. I call manipulators all those that move millions but park them at market – 50%.
I would love to see in addition to the above chart a chart with the weighted average bid and the weighted average ask and a chart of that spread which I would call manipulators activity chart.
What you describe sounds mostly like it would display the spread. How do you suggest to weight bids/asks, by order volume or by something else?
I have experimented quite a bit with orders weighted by the "distance" to the current price. Did not work out well so far but I am open for suggestions.

Hmm, not quite right neither …
[/s]
Edit:
for(Bid bid:bids) {
weighted_bid_price+=bid.price_per_BTC * bid.volume_USD;
}
weighted_bid_price/=total_bid_sum;
for(Ask ask:asks) {
weighted_ask_price+=ask.price_per_BTC * ask.volume_BTC;
}
weighted_ask_price/=total_ask_sum;
Would that work?
What if... I would offer 1BTC for 1 Billion Dollars?

This is going too fast... would some whale mind putting up an upper bounding wall to give the market some time?

what i find amazing is that before, when the $130 wall was there we were 58k btc down to $100. Even after nearly 10k btc bought the number has RISEN to 61k btc!
So the buying of the wall did'nt even scratch the bid side, in fact we've got stronger even after nearly 10k coins were bought
edit: back over 10k bids as well, first time ever yesterday
Whenever the price moves it drags orders behind it. Already thinking about how to compensate this in a chart.

I wish it was. But what makes you guys think the bottom is in? I thought that multiple times already today and yesterday.
He said "for today".
A lot of people are afraid of a slow dwindle as in 2011. So there is some hope all the weak hands are out already.
It depends on what happens next. Bitcoin/periphery running into trouble or some fiat currency breaking down. USA/EU/Japan are all printing money like there is no tomorrow. The Bitcoin conference is coming up so there is potential for good news, too.

I tough i was going to insert an ask at 107 but i was actually doing a bid, with limit at 107... So, i clicked the wrong button. Buy instead of sell. Guess what?
I started this micro-rally, alone. I brought the price to 105.79986, and now it is next to 108.
Every now and then the chart looks like somebody does that. Doh.

And i'm no-one.
WTF?
Butterfly?

Just remember the y axis is different for the two series on the bottom, so the crossover is arbitrary. See the longer term chart for more perspective:
http://blockchained.com/depth_mtgox.pngThere is certainly a change happening though.
Though the longer term chart's scales start at zero the scaling is also arbitrary. Only the red line in the upper chart shows the absolute relationship.

fark, I didn't know Mt Gox charged you fees for placing then cancelling orders - lost .09 without making a trade.
Huh? AFAIK they don't.

It was to go down hard today so that we could then move on with a very very very slow rise. Give me a sixtysomething at least.

IAS, I think we will definitely visit the '50s but I'm not sure if it will happen so fast as in your extrapolation. My impression is that we have entered a "slowish" phase, and I don't expect impulsive moves downwards for the moment, just sideway trading + a few dumps that will gradually take us down for a while, mixed up with bounces and traps.
Regarding the SatoshiDice thing, I'm honestly not expecting big dumping by the shareholders who received the monies. My guess is that the big dump related to the SD buyout already happened, insiders dumped before the thing hit the news, as usual in both BTC and FIAT world - and that IMO explains at least partially the dump that took us to the '80s from the high '90s.
The dumping of SD shareholders don't seem to me like a probable bearapocalypse, what really intrigues me is when the SD buyer bought his +100k coins. Did he bought in the last weeks? In the last months? +100k are big volume, and I wonder how much of the big moves upwards triggered in the last weeks are direct consequence of the buying of the new owner of SD. If he did most of the buying in the last weeks, and thus is responsible of the impulsive move upwards from $66 to $104, I think the lack of buying pressure will be much more relevant than the eventual "dumping" of SD ex-shareholders.
You sound so balanced... did you buy in finally? I thought you were proudhon 2.0

guys this is really fishy... I see massive buys on other exchanges!!! do you think this was all played ? create some panic people start selling and some big hands eats the weak hands ?
The other exchanges rising struck me odd, too.
It's been an hour, enough of the fun. Somebody call the gox hole and tell them to reboot.
Seriously how could that go on for so long? It's just sad.
