I agree entirely.

Nobody in their right mind would sell another 5000-10000 BTC right now - they need to wait for the bids to fill in first.

I believe I said it earlier but he who dumps first wins. That 10k dump earlier was a real winner !

Yeah, but most bought in below 120 in june/july. I expected a bigger dump. But I agree, better wait till it calms down and moves up a bit and then do another round.

I think the next weeks will look much like Feb/Mar 2013: some days of good rise, then a healthy correction with relatively fast recovery,... rinse, repeat.

So, basically...

Yes, stable does = good
But
Higher value also = good
So

We need to just go ahead and figure how big bitcoin needs to be and make it that value now so it can stay there and be stable

That's not going to happen until
BTC reaches a fairly high market cap, something like 100k per coin, and even then there will likely be continued and ongoing increases in value.

I'm just playing the hand that I see in the most reasonable way. I'll be buying back shortly and you guys can smack me around when the price is $700 at that time. =D

That's actually quite a level headed gamble. It would have worked in your favour a couple of times now (... and one day it won't of course, and then you lose big, but you knew that).

Myself, I'll go all in again the second it touches under $600.

Volume is actually much better now than before the previous big dumps. Not great, but not abysmal either.

Better wait for the 583 dip, was confirmed multiple times last couple of days.

I think it is safe to say that Bitcoin is gonna be major this year.  The news alone makes me think we have only one place to go and that is the moon.  I'm just waiting for more clarity on the legal side

Expected go live is Late14/Early15, so btc going major would be next year really.

With so much lobbying it may indeed be approved.  After watching the big bank bailout in the last crsis, I now expect anything from the US economic agencies.

However, it will be ironic if the SEC, after denying the trading of bitcoin itself on stock exchanges for seeing it a financial instrument that has no backing assets or guarantees, were to allow the trading of shares of a fund that is backed solely by holdings of a financial instrument that has no backing assets or guarantees...

Okay, umm but what's so different? We actually had less positive news last year, it seems. In fact, we just had the silk road seizure back then.

There is no positive or negative, there is just movement. Every news can bear or bull. If that is "good" or "bad" for you is a whole other story.

Someone is definatelly dumping A LOT of coins. But I don't think it's manipulation now. Just someone with a lot of coins to dump, look at the 1k ask wall at 2940 on HooBoy and he dumped few k to bring it down accross major exchanges. If someone is willing to give up coins at these prices i'll gladly take as many as i can  Grin Looks like the overall sentiment is that bitcoin is undervalued and market wants to go up. BFX longs lost 12MM or 30% (i think BFX did an amazing job controlling that avalanch), and shorts are up by like 2k BTC. All indicators are pointing up, lets see how many coins Mr Dump has, if it's Gox's coins this might take a while

There are still a lot of stolen/auctioned coins around and the long stall could be a motivator for one or more of those people to dump some % of their stash. My guess is that it will go down more probably around 350-400 and then go up slowly first, then gaining more speed up quickly towards new years eve.

1. So, does this mean that we are really supposed to be breaking the bear trend, now? (I don't think so... the bounce back was anemic and we haven't retested the low); OR

2. The alts didn't get the memo and the gamblers who took out leverage on those because they thought they'd go up faster are now doubling down on the bet to keep pumping the price and they are about to get uber-slaughtered.

If the account belongs to payment processing companies, obviously they are cashing out highly likely due to the coins from merchants. If the account belongs to institutional funds, obviously they are trying to control the price. If the account belongs to miners, obviously they are cashing out mined coins.

Frankly, I'm not aware of anything to prevent the exchanges front running the market. It would be profitable and very hard to prove, therefore it is probably happening.

Rule #1: If there is money involved, someone is doing it.

The S&P 500 is currently in a bubble.

The market cap of S&P 500 is 17.5 trillion dollars.

If only 1% of that money flows into Bitcoin, thats 175 billion adding to the market cap of Bitcoin.

Not saying it will happen, but it's a possibility.

I think that's a little bit highly estimated. Maybe in a timespan over 10 years.

I think the best lesson from the last month is to keep a bid open $10-20 below market.  The buyer makes a quick profit on the bounce, and the dumper makes less money on the drop.

Haven't we been promised the traders to come back after summer? It's nearly autumn now and I don't see any increase, in fact we're still going down, I suppose... Maybe the real bottom hasn't been reached. We need to meet the long-long-long-term support, I believe.

Well, yeah. That's what euphorias last gasp does. Hit 330-350 range and shoot back up in no time. You will see.

In a veritable sea of good news the decline seems to have stalled.

Looking at a 12 hour chart on bitcoinwisdom of stamp it looks surprisingly bullish. A sequence of higher lows. A move upwards to retest the 680 area (despite the doom mongering reaching an almost overwhelming din on here the last few weeks) looks both possible and if it occurs over the next month would be a nice platform for a potential next move upwards. If that happens then it will look really obvious that the 3xx low was THE low and all the bears will be wondering why they didn't buy in between 3xx and 650 Smiley.

I guess you mean 4xx both times but otherwise yeah pretty much this.

It seems r/bitcoin is trending, apparently on the back of a perfect storm of attention because of Paypal, Apple, Bank Of England, Satoshi hack, etc. within a few days of each-other. Lots of noobs are showing up asking to know what bitcoin is all about. Now we don't know for sure if financial types will be doing the same to their brokers right now, but it seems a pretty daft time to sell this weekend. No wonder the shadowy puppetmasters of the noisy beartrolls in this forum are bribing them extra to lure your precious coins into their ravenous maws.

I suppose by the end of the week we will know if we will move past 500$ or 450$.

The good think is that volume seems to be picking up.

Or maybe, all week, BTC prices will stay between $465 and $485, which does NOT seem to be too out there as far as possibilities?

330-350 Oct/Nov, new ATH March

Yeah my wife needs knee surgery. Nothing urgent but just figured I'd put the money in the bank now because it'll be in the next week, I could have liquidated some of my brokerage account + lost money on exchange rate + fees, wired from the UK + lost money on exchange rate + fees, or sold btc on LBC.

Selling on LBC I get bitstamp rate here, so I figured fuck it. Probably was just gonna go sideways for another few weeks until I had the chance to buy them back.

Already regretting it.

I know that there can be some unexpected needs for cash.. from time to time.  I am in the red on my BTC... since my average buy-in price is $600... Accordingly,  I attempt to have enough of a cash flow in fiat on reserve in various accounts.. so I do NOT have to sell BTC .. especially while I am in the red... however, i do understand that sometimes the situation could be forced for whatever reason or even seem to be the least of the evils (regarding which account should be cashed out).

My average buy in price this year is $510.

if I count the ones I bought in july + sold in dec my average buy price is $220. which is actually a lot higher than I thought it was until I just calculated it.

My average buy in price is $30. What now?  Cool

If your average buy-in is $30, then you should be in a pretty decent position to decide whatever you want; however, if your quantity of holdings is low, you may still need to consider buying more.. so average by itself may NOT be sufficient to determine what to do next.  In other words, we need more info in order to be of assistance to you, to the extent that you may perceive any need(s) for assistance.   Undecided Undecided

lol is this real

This could be one way to get rid of mmitech, but it seems that mmitech would NOT be true to his word..... I cannot imagine him leaving.  He cannot help himself but to hang around with us to inform us of our bad investment into BTC

And suddenly someone is VERY silent.  Cool

why didnt you take it when you should ? now coming back sounding as a smart ass.... I offered 20 BTC and no one had balls to take it.

It pretty much sounds like it's a done deal. There is no question about if anyone wants to take the bet really.

Dumping 50.000 BTC on the market soon sure is not bullish. I wish the US government is wiser and sell those seized coins slowly through the exchange.

They are planning to auction the 150k in 3 seperate auctions 50k each. The single auctions will also be divided by blocks. Just read the gov page.

This flow of money is bullish. I hope this happens until almost all the supply is in the hands of Tim Drapers and Winklevosses.

Correct.

Thanks. Luckily I was already trading at finex.

Not sure why you would count yourself lucky. No exchange is safe to trade on. Next week/month/year it's finex, then okcoin and after that kraken.

We need a decentralized exchange that is fast and accurate like a lot of insiders are preaching for years. Why noone has done it yet is simple - there is no money in it.

Karpeles made Bitcoin so he could launder his money through a online drug site. The site would grow popular due to its ability to not need a middle man, this would appeal to drug dealers, Karpeles target market. Next his site gets busted. He hires a frontman (Ross) to take the blame so he can work on plan B: Attack of the Willy bot. Using funds from SR and user
deposits he pumped BTC to 1200. Then he will cash out his funds and use that to deepen the rabbit whole. He would tip off newsweek to get crazy jorno's after Dorian Nakamoto while Karpeles Sataoshi escapes. He would play dumb so no one would expect him. He was an idiot fat kid, no one would suspect he was the master mind behind one of the most disruptive technologies ever.

It doesn't make sense. Satoshi would also put someone in place to take the fall for MtGox. So Karpeles is just another Ross. Who was that canadian guy in the background again that wrote all the DPR texts?  Wink

Do you know how "unhealthy and violent" 1-2% per day is/would be?

Let's take the square root of 2 for fun as the average: ~1.414%

(1 + ~1.414/100)^365 = ~16,800%

Starting from a (made up) base of $250, BTC would be ~$42,000 by this time next year.
