Bitamp is higher than Gox, that is usually bullish, isn't it?

Does it mean that the value of being stuck with fiat on gox is higher than the value of fiat on Bitstamp?

Whats all this about bitcoin not being a convenient payment method? Scan QR code, click send, whats more convenient?
It will be really convenient once hardware wallets with cameras (for scanning QR codes) and biometrics (to prevent theft) start appearing.

I suspect the real madness will take another 1-2 weeks to hit. New money following the flood of >1000 USD new coverage will take some time to get into the exchanges, especially if the verification queues are backed up.
We could even touch 10k$ before crashing back to ~$1200

I'm excited as everyone else and want to see this going to 10k but people seem to forget that all it takes it one whale dumping 30k coins and we're back at 400 and then panic selling will bring us even lower.
A whale will never dump so much so fast, the stupid whales are now bears and cashed out a long time ago.

You mean way back in the thousands of hours ago?
Yes. The Silk Road bust proved that these black markets could be shut down, which made Bitcoin more respectable. The recent shutdowns of BMR and Sheep, whatever the reason, reinforces the idea that Bitcoin is not just a currency for black markets.

We should go up slow and steady not 15% in a day.

There is volatility because the price is almost exclusively speculation. That's a feature, not a bug. The speculation feeds capital indirectly into Bitcoin infrastructure.

I think predicting the value of Bitcoin for the short term (less than 6 months) is like trying to predict storms, you know they will happen some time in autumn, but you have no way of knowing when. Accepting chaos is difficult, but it doesn't change the fact that some things can't be predicted. You could predict a storm a few days in advance, but anything more than that is like looking in a crystal ball.

When you see the global phenomenon that is Bitcoin, the fact that the scarcity is only going to increase, I see its price grossly undervalued.

Sure, the price is mostly speculation now, but the fact is that there is surprisingly few people/organisations with money speculating on the Bitcoin price at the moment. That will probably change when more respectable exchanges start gaining credibility within the existing financial industry.

Until then, we're going to continue to have a bear market. There simply isn't enough demand to lift the price. So, forget about $1000 this year. And yet, I'm Hodling!

The IPO was payed in BTC. The recipient could be dumping them all on an exchange. Seems unlikely though.

Ah yeah, that could make sense. I was thinking: If they acquire a lot of BTC, the supply actually would go down so there'd be no reason for the price to drop. But you've got a valid point there - although you're right that it's not that probable!

they aren't dumping them. they have all the received btc in a multi-sig wallet address.

Fuck your friends... if they are NOT buying now, then they are just looking for lame excuses... and fail to recognize that they may be left at the rocket launch pad holding their travel bags.... b/c they failed to hop on.  On the other hand, your fucking friends will be able to catch the next rocket.. it is just going to cost a little more.. maybe in the $1800 territory.. after the price crashes down from the $3-$5k territory.

Regarding your point about too expensive now or unsustainable, you seem to be living in a fantasy world.. of course it is sustainable at this price..   Do U even understand the exponential room for growth for bitcoin?  Do you believe that Whats App should be perceived as more valuable than the BTC network... HELLO>>... snap back into reality and convince some of your school "friends" to get off their little fat asses... since they may be eating too much sugar and drinking too many colas too, with their holding onto fiat...
Someone intending to buy BTC should be doing it now. It's not going to get a lot cheaper than this. Sure, you could get another $100 discount if you're lucky. On the other hand, the sale might end abruptly. I for one, just bought 3 more coins Cheesy

Feels like a bear trap. I'm still in fiat though. I need more convincing.

Good luck with your timing and your hesitancy.... and figuring out "when to get on the train."   you seem like the kind of person who would likely get left at the train station and one  who may be afraid of his/her own shaddow...   sorry about that. Sad
Hehe, I'm on board now. Tchoo tchooo!

Speaking of Satoshi Nakamoto, I have a "historical" question.  When he set up the first mining node and started the current blockchain, did he see it as "the" blockchain, that one day would be used to buy servers from Dell, support investment funds, send people to jail, etc.; or did he think of it as an alpha-test of the protocol, that would be used only by computer nerds, only long enough to show that the idea was sound?

(IIRC there is nothing about that in the published paper.  Did he comment on that in his "epistles"?)

It's the same chain. Though there have been hard forks. My understanding is that it was meant to last, and that these forks were expected. It was alpha-software, and Satochi wasn't the kind of coder who enjoys looking for bugs before they become an issue.

The recent bearishness is completely irrational, when looking at BTC acceptance by merchants, BTC startups, and also as a brand. Sure, it might not be worth 10 000. But falling back to 200. I don't think so.

have we hit despair yet? no?!

down down down your boat down below the sea.
whales are here and whales are there squeezing little sheeps.

Cheesy

I do sense more and more despair. If the price does not rebound soon, expect even more despair.
There is a lot of despair, which could take us to the 200s. There is also a lot of smart money waiting. Not buying at these prices with money assigned to Bitcoin trading take balls of steel. Buyers of the december bubble also need balls of steel for not selling. The question is how much buying pressure is there from the first group, and how much selling pressure there could be from desperate holders.

The fundamentals are still good though (brand, network effect, security and uptime track record).

Volume looking good, time to push the button. $50-100 discount isn't worth the risk.

"To be clear, today’s news does not mean that PayPal has added Bitcoin as a currency in our digital wallet or that Bitcoin payments will be processed on our secure payments platform."

Reading is fundamental.
"That’s why we’re proceeding gradually, supporting Bitcoin in some ways today and holding off on other ways until we see how things develop" Still bullish

There were altnets, some of them obvious scams (Minitel), others were usefull for experimenting. They have pretty much all disapeared. Does this apply to cryptocurrencies. Maybe.

Swear to God (yes I am a Christian) this is the Wall Observer thread and needs more moderation. If you want to talk about Nazis, holocaust speculation, silver or gold bugs, people of different faiths like Jews and Muslims or tin foil hat controversies there are other forums that will welcome you. I don't post much here anymore because 1) I am busy day trading and 2) over about half the posts here seem to have nothing to do with Bitcoin. It is becoming a bit of a joke and a cesspool frankly. Just a thought.
You must be new here

There will only be 818,913 more bitcoin mined before the next halvening event.

That is only $3 billion worth of bitcoin.

Let bears enjoy a few extra percentage points.

Worrying about catching the exact bottom is like trying to pick up a penny in front of a steamroller.

Well nobody new is buying at the moment, let alone $3B of new money. Down we go.

Your opinion has been carefully noted. Thanks for participating. We will call you next year if you are right.

In the meantime maybe learn something about resistances and supports.

P.S.: A little hint to enlighten you:

I'm constantly monitoring the price of BTC, but we struggle to stay at $4,000 level.

Any chance for the 2nd pump?

What price will we land next?

Either 3.7 or 4.2 probably. Sideways in the meantime.
How's your long doing?
