not too sure why there is much doom and gloom.
Sure BU is a "threat" but bitcoin has faced many threats before and in the longer run it has weathered them all fairly well.
Why is Bitcoin unlimited a threat, its just competition and bitcoin has plenty of alternatives already in operation that would be happy to take over. The threat would be from the number of miners who would switch and prefer to support that alternate system. I guess that part is new as most coins start from nowhere.
Will we definitely end up with 2 tokens in equal amounts on 2 addresses, price wise that just seems to suggest the price halves and value overall is the same. Some confusion as people switch or decide which coin to hold or use but not as bad as it might appear?
I would rather they make transactions compete in fees they pay for priority. This will then give the smallest transactions business to alt coins where it probably belongs ? The best solution is the most natural self adjusting. Does my opinion mean I should sell BU if I get any?
Wait a minute. Is BU another bitcoin or just a mining software cause I thought it was a software used to mine bitcoin.

Excuse me for interrupting with a wall observation but the 416 coin ask wall at Stamp caught my attention. Seems someone really wants to keep the price under $1200.
Eaten or pulled?
It is getting eaten now. Very exciting to watch.
The slightly lower one was pulled after being partially eaten.
The slightly higher one was partially eaten and the moved up a notch.
Entertaining indeed.
Pulled while typing.
Edit: Seems they were just intimidation walls and like most bullies, they were cowards.
Push back and they go running home crying to mommy.
Edit: Lawl. Back again, this time a pair of 300 coin walls.

Walls just dancing in and out.
Yep...
There was another wall at $1196.77 - started out with 527 coins, and then 92 coins were eaten in a matter of minutes, which left 323 coins. Those coins were then pulled... and moved to $1,298.08.
I think that they are going to get eaten, within the coming hours... but really it is not easy to know how many coins each of these whales have and whether they are going to be able to hold off an upward breach of $1,200 - within the next several hours... I'm kind of thinking that the odds for breaking upwards is pretty decent....
Anyone differ?
Edit: now it looks like the 323 guy might have stacked his coins behind another 100 coins at $1198.13.
It is like he would prefer the coins of other people to get eaten first... hahahahahaha
It would be nice to see the totality of the 423 coins to be eaten all at once, so that the 323 guy does not have another chance to pull his coins... but that may just be wishful thinking on my behalf.
I'm quoting myself.. hahahahaha
O.k. at this time, there are about 1,000 coins on Stamp to get us to break $1,200 - Are we breaking $1,200 in the next 24 hours? or at least some time over the weekend? or by monday? I have some difficulty believing that prices would be able to bounce around in a $1,170 to $1,195 arena until monday..... so something has got to happen, before monday, no? One way or another.. which way? Up or down, right? Not sideways, right? Something tells me that if there are several tries, and not able to break upwards, then

we be going dee udder direction.
Yes, we're breaking $1200 in the next 24hours and if we're unable to break the $1200 this weekend. We will break the price next week I'm so sure of it.

A new ATH this month is maybe to much to expect (but I wouldnt be surprised at all). Thinking long term it would be better is this month would be just a consolidation of around $2500.
Yes, we need to have another retest of ATH, unless it breaks out decisively we are looking at couple more weeks of consolidation. However, even then I more positive then ever, that we are not going to see sub-1500 anytime soon. This bull trend is incredibly strong and once we retest lows one more time, we can resume the growth.
We could eventually even reach 5k USD/per bitcoin this year, who knows?
It is quite possible that the testing of the lows are done.
Even though there are attempts to keep the price down and even get below $2k, we keep trickling back up... up and up and up.
Might not be another down test until somewhere between $4k and $6k?
Perhaps you are right
I was merely stating an alternative scenario, and surely various scenarios (whether up or down) are a series of probabilities. So in that regard, I am just trying to say that your assertion of the down scenario that retests the previous lows (currently around $1,850 in the latest wave) seemed to be giving such retest of low scenario probabilities that were quite high from my perspective.
I mean, you in essence suggested that another test of the low was likely necessary before proceeding up, and gosh, we have already been testing lows and such further test does not seem like it has to take place in order to have enough UP fuel.
By the way, regarding the assertion of my response saying that we could be heading to the $4k to $6k arena before we get another correction, I am not very wedded to my assertion, but I am getting the sense that up is a bit more probable than down, and that down is not necessary in order to go up. Nonetheless, I also understand that anything can happen and we are a long way from $4k. In that regard, we still need to break through resistances that exist at $2,400 and at $2,600 and then at the ATH level of $2,760 and then in the $3,600 region in order to then get ourselves into the $4k to $6k price arena.
however, winter... weekend is coming. And we all know what happens during weekends... unless, some great info emerges, that would break back of bear whales.
There may be a tiny bit of a correlation of dumps on the weekend - but that kind of pattern is far from certain. We have also experienced pumps on weekend, especially during bull markets or bull trends. Do you recall in May of 2016, there were weekend pumps on 3 or 4 weekends in a row... by the time the fourth weekend came, people were starting to expect a weekend pump and then we got a dump instead.. hahahaha... So, again you seem to be assigning a quite high probability that a dump is going to occur soon and is necessary before proceeding up and that such a dump is likely for this weekend... maybe? maybe not.
I also find it very bullish, that predictions about resolution of bitcoin withdrawals in China proved to be correct. Before PBOC intervention, China was the market leader pushing the price up and being ahead of west by 5% on average. We should see that now again.
Previously China had received way too much credit for BTC price movements, and even with their previous exaggerated credit, they are not going to be returning to their old glory days any time soon because the various PBOC interventions of late 2016 that have been lasting until today, have shed considerable light on the fakery of the Chines BTC trade volume and the margin trading practices that exacerbated Chinese BTC trade volume fakery.
So you seem to be giving too much weight to a fantasy that did not really exist previously yet is even less likely to exist in the near future, due to some of the recent PBOC interventions.
This summer will be quite eventful.
There is no way that I can disagree with you. I believe in the past, summers had a tendency to become boring. A kind of pattern; however, currently with so much attention to alts and even the simultaneous bullish behavior of BTC prices, there is almost no way that the excitement level is going to drop off any time in the near future. We have so much activity and craziness going on right now in BTClandia and in Altcoinlandia that it is going to take several months to simmer down the amazing and exciting dynamics of this current situation.
Good to hear from up ranking members on here that the price of bitcoin will bullish longer for sometime and this remind of Saxo Bank predict which the price to reach 2100$ and so amazing that the prediction came true and even past.

Another dump.
Will the price test $2000 again or are we going to see higher lows?
Will the price test $3000 again until august?
After watching the price movement closely. So, I think the price will come down for sometime but I can't predict the exact price and the price will bounce back to the top towards the end of this year.

Looks like we are seeing a little pull back on the rally across most coins today. I guess that is to be expected since I'm sure a bunch of people sold off at around the $3,000 mark.
What are your thoughts if we see a flip in the king of market cap from BTC to ETH. Correct me if I'm wrong, but since there is no hard cap on the number of Ethereum generated, it could not mean all that much?
Eth/btc is the most stable thing right now. Hard to predict what will happen when things changes.
I was expecting ETH rises above BTC for a short time then be heavily dumped, but don't know now.
Ethereum did make some positive mark for years as one of the best cryptocurrency but saying Ethereum will rise about bitcoin is impossible pal because bitcoin as proof to be the #1 through all this time and the reason why bitcoin price went down is because of people making some quick sell and the macranson virus currently in town stolen bitcoin from people.

It's great to see, and hope the uptrend keeps going. It did retreat a little late this week but it's going back up nicely.
Yes, bitcoin does bring smile into peoples face this year and it all started with Saxo Bank prediction last year. Nevertheless, the price is now down by 9$ but it all good cause every business must accept a little debt in other to be success.

As mentioned, any or all m/billionaires are probably too smart to personally risk much to kill BTC.
The big moneylenders? Visa/MegaCorp/<fill in the blank>? They would/should go deeply into debt to kill BTC, because it threatens their bread and butter. They should do this for a loss, to preserve the FatCats at the top of their food chain.

Yes, in this kind of situation holding of bitcoin and not selling is the nice move. Therefore, no matter the threat bitcoin may cause the so call billionaires, is better for them to join the race and not going against it. Mind you, the price per bitcion now is a bit increase than last week.

going up would be too predictable. I suspect one more big dump down.
Looks like a lot of people were left fiat bagholding during last panic sell. Now they are desperate to see at least one last dip. I think they'll be left with fiat bags and hesitate which alt to shoot at.
I was only buying into the dump, but selling as it was going up. but true, I'd like to load again

Charts seem to be positioning for a drop. Im waiting at 2015, 1855 and 1755.
Watching closely the price is at $2248 but I think dump will happen any time soon before the month end because there will a lot panic due to the thirteen participate bitcoin exchanges planning to suspend the depositing and withdrawing bitcoin early next month in Japan.

Yes, some dumps will happen when it Aug 1 because some people don't really have knowledge about the BIP. So therefore, there is chance for the price to go side ways and if you check closely the price per bitcoin increase despite the fact that the market stock are closed for the weekend.

SegWit Lock-in threshold expected at ≈Tue, 08 Aug 2017 19:14:34 GMT.
I am almost 100% confident that this will take us to a new ATH today.
In case someone doesn't know where to check that information:
https://www.xbt.eu/.
Wait a minute. Are you serious SegWit was locks today? Because what Theymos said is the SegWit will be lock on Aug 10 and it will be finally activated acouple of weeks i.e SegWit will be activated around 24th Aug, 2017.

What site do you think I use to keep track of current status?
How should I know, people are weird.
I think you are using a different meaning for CERTAINTY.
Probable certainty then.
Lock-in will be certain when all the needed blocks for lock-in has been mined. That will happen when 41 additional BIP141 blocks have been mined.
No. Activation will be certain once the last lock-in block has been mined.
Wait a minute. Are you serious SegWit was locks today?
Yes.
Because what Theymos said is the SegWit will be lock on Aug 10 and it will be finally activated acouple of weeks i.e SegWit will be activated around 24th Aug, 2017.
It doesn't matter what theymos said, don't do appeals to authority. Nobody can give you an exact time, and August the 10th was an estimate. Due to rising hashrate, the period end (therefore also the time at which it locks in) has come closer. The same happened with the halving last year, which came earlier as blocks were mined on average faster than 10 minutes due to spikes in hashrate.
Ok, thank for the information and I can now understand. I presume the SegWit will be activated wholly after 2weeks which will be 22 Aug, 2017. Is that correct?

Now that the mainstream is adopting BTC, we will soon do the real pump and dump, leaving them with the ultimately worthless BTC digital token. Satoshi is a genius robber baron.
BTC will hit $500,000 then drop back to $50, destroying greedy bankers in the process.

Right?

That's not true because the technology network created or programmed for bitcoin doesn't meant to work that. Mind you, bitcoin was meant to be an alternative to our financial system and if you check the current financial market update, you see that bitcoin rallies to $3829 while world wide traditional assets tumble.

I underestimated this. Maybe $3800 - $4000 Monday target?
$4k probably within the next 36 hours I would say.It is definitely possible.
With the beginning of the new week I expect some correction to happen.
Hopefully not too low. 3400-3500 would be nice.
Crazy week we have so far. Just amazing. Enjoy this guys!
Its crazy weekend and new week. I was amazed when I see that the per bitcoin surge to $3997. Despite, the fact stock market is already close for the weekend and this make think that there's possibility for price per bitcoin to reach $4500 before the end of this new week. I guess all this was the effect of the SegWit2x

Is this that ackward moment in which people that were praying for a dip a few hours ago are now too scared to rebuy?
BIP 141 (Segregated Witness) activation is scheduled to take place in: 1175 Blocks (8.15 days)
Hi bitserve,
Do you think the price will go up after activation in just over a week? I mean surely it's priced in as it's a guarantee now. Seems strange it going up at that moment when everyone knows about it.
Also I know btc is it's own beast but didn't litecoin drop after activation and then increase in price later?
Love to know everyone's thoughts here.
The only reference I can use is Litecoin. It kept pumping until just after activation. Then a mild drop that took some days(?) to recover.
At the moment, Bitcoin is doing exactly the same. So it should keep rising until activation. I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks 5K during last days/hours before activation.
Of course, both are not the same. Litecoin didn't need Segwit as much as Bitcoin does, because it had no capacity problem... but Segwit is much more than that though.
There have been some interesting advances in Segwit wallets and even in Lighting Network. I think it will be those advances what will propel Bitcoin to new heights, but not sure if it will be right after activation or a few months later.
Also, Segwit "capacity increase" will become more noticeable as soon as more people and services start using segwit tx's, something that will come gradually over the next few months.
In conclusion, I don't fucking know.... But I think the scenario is very bullish and that, even if it dips now, it should keep rising later.
Right here I'd like bitserve, rjclarke2000, Elwar, Torque, lightfoot, infofront, JimboToronto and Searing's opinion.
Interesting times are coming. Segwit is about to activate. We already know Litecoin's behavior. But things are different right now. Another fork is about to happen. And this is not like the previous, when the honey badger just ignored the altcash for our cheers. About 8 days from here we may see Bitcoin's price submerge and another alt rise with (maybe) half BTC's value.
In my opinion it would be similar to March's Winklevoss ETF. There happened a rush from $800+ to $1200+ in a few minutes, then... BOOM! Two months to recover to another (very celebrated) ATH.
Not that I care about it, I learned my lesson from afrocoin's irresponsibility. I'm a Matrix hodlr since then.
I'm asking only because I'd like to have some help to predict a window where I could buy some cheap coins.
Thank you for you attention.
I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I figured I'd toss in my thoughts anyway ...
I wouldn't draw too many parallels between price action around segwit activation for litecoin vs bitcoin. There's a tiny but nevertheless worrisome chance -- especially worrisome to new investors -- that SegWit activitation in 8 days will trigger some unexpected software bug and cause some sort of technical disaster. So when SegWit activates and the first SW transaction propagates without mishap, that could be a little bullish. So same effect as bip141 lock-in, although maybe not as pronounced. Up until a few weeks ago, investors have been viewing litecoin as a hedge against the possibility of unending deadlock on the scaling debate. SW lockin and activation was less of a concern for litecoin than for bitcoin, relatively speaking (relative to the other forces driving litecoin price).
For context, I'm viewing this under the assumption that the current uptrend is fueled by institutional investors who are just now getting comfortable with bitcoin investing. So I try to interpret events from what I imagine their perspective to be.
Yes, the SegWit will trigger some unexpected software bug but the SegWit will be finally activated in 14days not 8days. The price of bitcoin is sightly pumping up though.

Suzanne... sounds like you have been spending too much time on r/btc with your seemingly uninformed speculation about the supposed "bugs of segwit"
Regarding our current status of "slightly pumped up bitcoin", you could be correct that we have to see the extent to which there remains decent buying support for BTC at this level. I am tentatively thinking that currently there is a pretty decent chance that current ongoing buying support is likely to push us into the $4800 to $6800 territory before it starts to possibly be reasonable that bitcoin is "due for" a 35% to 50% price correction.
Sure, we are all speculating to some degree - however, your unfounded speculation about segwit supposed "bugginess" will likely lead you to conclusions that are much more erroneous than another person who does not suffer from such wishful thinking r/btc delusions.
Theymos speculation that SegWit will be lock in around Aug 10, and again for a couple of weeks after SegWit finally activates around Aug 24. But SegWit was lock in early at Aug 8 which is why I think it will take 2weeks for SegWit to be finally activated
My apologize senior if it seems to you that I was making an unknown speculation about SegWit system.

Yeah they are but we that totally believe in bitcoin also need to make bitcoin more great. Which is why I'm happy for what happened in South African bitcoin trading and hope more of this will happen in future.

A question for the specialists here:
So some entities are liquidating large quantities of BTC to pump up BitcrashCoin, but the price of BTC remains quasi unaffected.
That maybe means there is a substantial inflow of fiat ?
And if these same entities are really planning to, at a certain point, cash their Bitcrash coins out, then what will happen with all
the others who bought that thing?
It will be very funny if schism happens in a couple of months due to Core still firm with Segwit and BitcrashCoin takes over the top.
Would that be a realistic possibillity?
If (enough) miners switched from BTC to BTH because it was more profitable to mine, it could cause problems for BTC. So yes, it's possible - but the whole market could lose faith with Bitcoin (both) altogether - and no one really wants to kill the golden goose. I hope.
EDIT: for clarity
Enough miners won't move from mining of BTC to BCH because of the mining profitable of BCH and if that happen it because they want to make some $$ from the pumping of BCH and convert their BCH later into BTC.
EDIT : Only an ignorant person will switch from BTC which usually surge 2 times than it dump to newly born BCH which could crash anytime.

Though the bitcoin price did not skyrocket when it hit $4,400 I am comforted by the fact that we are not in an exponential rise. This whole bull run has been fairly conservative.
I don't see a huge crash coming any time soon like we saw in 2013. If it continues it's fairly slow climb I will be pleased. Even if the climb slows to a crawl until the next quick rise.
Yes, the situation of bitcoin price lately is fair cause it create a some chance for a quick trade/invest when the depreciate to the $3700 range and it getting back to the top now while the BCH is now at the fourth spot loosing it value. I knew some ignorant people will loose their invest due to BCH dumping acouple of days back.
Bitcoin keep on bullish

Have Xapo and Coinbase and such released their BCH's to users yet? I'm sure there will be a pump before that happens. And a monumental dump when they do.
Your bitcoin cash remain safe and store on coinbase network. However, coinbase are planning to support the bitcoin cash when it Jan 1 2018 and once they support bitcoin cash will be able to withdraw your bitcoin cash. For xapo no exact time or date was mention.
Moreso, there will be bitcoin pump but bitcoin cash will be dump when coinbase support the bitcoin cash.

Only $4260 per Bitcoin. Crypto is over!!!

Crypto is not over until it over and crypto is not over for those who stick to bitcoin. Besides, we're at $4314 per bitcoin now and for those who moved to BCH because it bullish acouple of weeks ago. Crypto is over .

Torque, what would be the purpose of that?
Bitcoin poses the biggest threat to the State, it is the largest and most decentralized cryptocurrency. The State can't control it or shut it down, and they were too late to try and co-op it by cornering the market (like they did with ETH, other pre-mined cryptos, etc.). They also know they can't buy off or manipulate the core development team. So the only game they have left is to sway people away from Bitcoin through social engineering and push them towards other alts, pre-mined and centralized crap that they CAN ultimately control or at least easily fk with.
What kind of coins DO they promote?
These guys were real slick...they started off promoting Bitcoin and only Bitcoin to their followers. Now their attitudes have begun to morph and show their true colors. Trojan horse operatives. They are now promoting BCH primarily, saying that it's the more legit version of Bitcoin. Also things like LTC, ETH, Dash, and a BUNCH of ICO tokens that we all know are complete rubbish. The whole goal is to push people away from Bitcoin now, and into other trash, or at least get people to diversify into a bunch of garbage cryptos. As if all cryptocurrencies are "created equal". It's all about stunting or slowing down the growth of Bitcoin long term.
I mean look at it, other than Bitcoin what other crypto has been under constant and relentless attack? Exactly none. Because none of the others pose any real threat to the State.
Ohh. Thanks for the update Torque. I don't know why people act like this. Have been wondering why bitcoin price increases a bit and go down a bit lately and this explain the reason behind it. However, we bitcoiners can still make things happen just like we use to do whenever any issue hinder the bullish of bitcoin.
Despite the false news and the bad way some people try to stop bitcoin from pumping. Bitcoin still bullish all time high today at $4650 per bitcoin today. Thanks to the US, Japan, China,South Korea, and India markets. The price per bitcoin is currently at the $4500 range which is still good though.

That another fork will still fail

You should have buy when is at $3900 range. Nevertheless, you're lucky to buy when the price is at $4300 range though. But you don't have to sell now cause the price stable at $4500 which mean it will still pump more than people expectation.

It nice you have something to fix the BCH you have in order not to loose in the end and that's smart of you have because a lot of people we loose some much to BCH due to the pump.

Psh, this is typical of the mental illness within the cryptocurrency community. There MUST be conspiracy and evil meddling afoot! There is no way that infinite ICOs which attempt to steal kid's lunch money could POSSIBLY be negative!
You might be right but the Chinese government also have reason behind their action and is not their fault but the fault of the bad eggs which in some ways generate this scenario. I believe every thing be fine though, let's keep fingers cross.

I really feel that bitcoin will break to $4000 zone, and it will stay there for maybe a few hours or maybe days.
And then go up again, i am sure that this is gonna happen, right now the market is crazy and all altcoins are going down and up in matter of minutes. I have never seen that volume in the altcoin market.
by the way, this is a good zone to buy bitcoin right now
Yeah. The situation which happened in China and the SEC telling Protostarr to shut its token sale
operation and refund its investors did open door for new buying zone but the price of bitcoin will be between $4200-4300 range before it bull.

If yes, we need to buy this dip before going to $5000.
I also thought $4200 was the bottom since the price per was stable at the $4200 range during the ICO situation before everything went down. But with bitcoin reaching the $4154 currently, I don't think $4200 is the bottom now and I guess the bottom is $4100 per bitcoin.

Most crypto currency trader or investor usually go for coin that was supported by much wallet and exchange and bitcoin cash has support from the get go. Therefore, this help Bitcoin cash secure the top #5 in the coin cap market once it was implemented but when the situation of miner switching to bitcoin cash happened this give bitcoin cash a massive increase in price.

So I'm making a holiday bet with an in-law.
I offered to pitch in $200 for the holiday X-mas meal that he is cooking for the family. He also has a poor attitude toward Bitcoin.
So instead of giving him dollars, I'm going to make him a bet instead just to prove Bitcoin is better. And he loves bets.
The bet will go like this:
1) I give him $200 in bitcoin instead of cash.
2) BUT, he has to hold it until at least Jan 1st, 2019 and cannot sell no matter the price action.
3) If the value of bitcoin falls below $200 by that date, I will give him enough bitcoin to make up the difference in value.
4) If the value of bitcoin stays equal to or rises above $200, he keeps it all and can sell if he wishes.
It's a win-win bet for him. I'm doing this because we need to convert more people to see the power of this new "digital gold".
Torque, that's a brilliant way of making people who have negative feels about bitcoin to see the potential of bitcoin and I'm sure before it second quarter of next year he will be bitcoiner.

A bad time to invest in BitcoinOctober 8th, 2017
Back in 2013 I urged people to invest in Bitcoin.
Yesterday someone asked my cleaning lady to invest in Bitcoin.
Now if someone had asked her to accept payment in Bitcoin, or send payment in Bitcoin, then this would be compelling evidence that one should invest in Bitcoin.
But when cleaning ladies are asked to invest in Bitcoin, not a good investment.
When Bitcoin began, everyone was a miner, and everyone was a peer, everyone stored the entire blockchain. Which was great, but did not scale. And now people are struggling with half assed ideas about how to get it to scale. Bitcoin can no longer deliver on its original promises, has not figured out what new promises to make, and many of the new promises are unworkable, or are scams, or are likely to turn into scams.
When that blog was posted the price was ~$5k. Now it's ~$17k. I hope the cleaning lady took the "other" person's advice to invest.
From my own point of view Reakr0arch was literally talking about the comment made by James A. Donald "If hundreds of millions of people are doing transactions, that is a lot of bandwidth - each must know all, or a substantial part thereof." Which now leads to transaction congestion.

Unexpectedly, despite an ROI 4 times higher than S&P500 since the beginning of the year, the Sharpe ratio of
BTC is only a little bit lower than the S&P500 one.
It means
BTC isn't disproportionately risky for such an ROI.

The Sharpe ratio was developed by Nobel laureate William F. Sharpe and is used to help investors understand the return of an investment compared to its risk. The ratio is the average return earned in excess of the risk-free rate per unit of volatility or total risk.
Subtracting the risk-free rate from the mean return allows an investor to better isolate the profits associated with risk-taking activities. Generally, the greater the value of the Sharpe ratio, the more attractive the risk-adjusted return.
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/s/sharperatio.asp Thanks for the information but I'm still wondering how a lot of people comment about making losses through their bitcoin investment and i guess that happens through their impatient habit.
With that been said, the above picture stated December 31, 2018, and there's a chance for the price of each market to dump before it the last day of this year.
