fiat slowly sinking at Gox

This only accounts for goxUSD though right?
From what I understand gox will also do inra-exchange conversion (i.e. to euro or rupee) even if the bid/ask is in USD.
I'm not sure on this, but i remember reading that their exchange commission is 2.5%, so if the USD price gets over 2.5% above the euro price for example...

Yup, but how to withdraw... Not to mention getting a new bank won't be quick.

When's chartbuddy gonna return with the big charts? (I know you can click on them, but ain't nobody got time fo' dat)
Alternatively, where is (s)he getting the charts from?
I also vote for bigger charts again from chart buddy as I don't bother clicking the small ones and prefer to ignore him altogether. A good proposal was to make the chart at least as big as the minimum post size.
Also agree, I don't pay much attention to them, but do have an occasional glance, with the new smaller one that i have to click on its jsut too much work. All-in-all its pretty unnecessary and just adds alot o traffic to this thread.
If i ignore chart buddy, will i still get notifications when he posts in this thread?

There is some exciting news that will materialize soon though.
the exciting news is that bitcoin is rallying, in line with our forecast :-)of course, I didnt think for one second than any substantial amount of money from $130 down was withdrawn back into bank accounts. There's still quite a bit of latent money sitting on exchange sidelines I imagine.
correct. and most of our special indicators support thisooooh, special indicators

My vague guess is something about an exchange. By the by, did you guys notice that tradehill looks like it's going to make a comeback?
https://tradehill.com/They've been "making a comeback" for a few months now. I don't think there's much volume on their exchange though, also it's really funky the way you have to place orders, you can only do them in $1,000 USD increments.

why is the market so calm?
And why are EUR/GBP so much cheaper than the USD market? I regret liquidating to USD, it's one of the first times ever that the USD ask is way higher than GBP/EUR asks ..??
Because gox is applying their 2.5% inter-currency conversion to match the USD and EUR order books.

So, does this suggest that since accumulation is going up, the overall bitcoin market has net USD inflow, just that most of the new USD is going in through Bitstamp? i really don't know
Are there actually any credible reports of people successfully withdrawing large amounts of USD from MtGox yet? Or is this still an issue?
I haven't seen a confirmed one yet.
localbitcoins seems to follow gox for pricing, that's a way to pull off the bitstamp arb.
at localbitcoins you can set your own prices. I just today set mine to MtGox+0% and I buy at MtGox-10%. Could as well pick another exchange with different fees pegged to it.
Yes, but unless your licensed, you're comitting a financial crime (yeah really) by selling on LocalBitCoins, and if you're receiving wires for doing it, you're leaving tons of traces in the federal govt's systems of your crimes.

i don't get why it's okay to sell a speculative item like say, a trading card or an online game item, but selling a bitcoin is so drastically different?
i suppose you have a lot more volume when working with bitcoins
I'm not sure how japanese law sees it, but US law treats "Virtual Convertible Currencies" and Magic Cards differently so far as regulation is concerned.

I don't think that's strictly true -- the letter and spirit of the FinCEN regulations appears to be aimed at regulating the exchange sector, not OTC trades. It specifically states that buying and selling virtual currencies is OK, but generating and running exchange business for fiat is not.
If it is a grey area, it should be tested.
It's not a grey area in the US, very black and white. If you exchange USD for Virtual Convertible Currency (i.e. Bitcoin) you are obligated to register with the Federal Government (the FinCEN Guideline).

AFAIK, Fincen paper is just a "guidance" at this moment. No Laws for the moment, so no obligation.
Correct, the guidance is not a law, however it means that bitcoin is covered under the already existing laws.
I digress though, maybe this isn't a discussion for here, but over in the Legal subforum (there's already multiple for the same topic under way).

Do you know how unworkably absurd that sounds to real people? ... and yet you parrot it like it should mean something deep to someone.
If you are playing with virtual currencies on the internet you need to be registered with the Federal govt. ... uh-huh. Is that like in the rules for the MMPOG game or something, like the virtual in-world Federal govt. or the Galactic Federation Council of Elders?
I'm sure you've got better things to be doing with your time than reminding everyone of all their obligations under the massive set of federal laws now at their disposal. I bet you could find someone doing something wrong every minute of every day and you could talk to in a stern voice ... "Do you realise that it is black and white ... blah-blah-blah ... tune out.... illegal?" Is that your goal in life?
I use to sell on localbitcoins but no longer due because i'm worried of the legality of it. I've also attended a few bitcoin conferences where these regulations in specific were discussed.
Not saying I agree with this bs though...
So, is this a proper breakout over 100 or just another temporary blip before the next plunge?
If 100 doesn't hold, it will be interesting to see if we fall back to above or below 80. If it does hold, it could mean we are entering a bull market.
I'm standing by my bet of us still being in a bear market for a few more months yet, but I'm finding it hard to predict where it is going to go currently. Perhaps that is because we are getting close to the bottom (or have passed it!

)?
I hope we're headed back to the 80's, I've sold most my bitcoins for the time being.

Just so everybody knows, if you have an iphone, and you do a local iTunes backup AND ENABLED ENCRYPTION, it will backup google auth too. Everytiem you plug in your phone it will create a backup. You can then restore that backup to a second iPhone (i use an old one, just as an extra copy).

Damn, I'm pissed off at Virtex for changing their deposit policies. Two months ago if I made an anonymous deposit at some bank by 5:00pm local time, I'd be trading by not much later than 6:00pm. Now it takes banking days, and anonymity is questionable.
Ya, not sure why they did that... i guess its for AML, but bitcoin is free of that kind of regulation in canada.
Screw exchanges. It's time to go to Satoshi Square or use Local BTC. No fees, no banks, no BS governmental interference. Just decency and honesty.
this would be cool.

==== STOP READING IF YOUR IN A SERIOUS MOOD, THIS IS JUST A LAUGH ===
From ABN AMRO's website talking about japanese brokerage services....
"So why is this different from everywhere? Because in Japan the volume is so low it should be easy to process with the available technology. Consider, a large broker in Japan processing 25,000 transactions per day normally, might peak at 100,000 transactions and struggle to balance each day vs. the exchange. By contrast the same firm’s brokerage operation in the US might easily process 1,000,000 per day, such that broker firms operating in Japan seem backward by comparison.
As a result in terms of costs, Japanese commission rates for investors are 100x higher than the level that could easily be achieved with technology and process improvements available today."
Ummmmmmmmm so gox, how about more than 10 international SWIFT withdraws a day...?

So long as we can't move fiat around to the largest exchange, what difference does it make if its a weekend?
Bank transfers don't go out any day of the week, so what's slowing things down on the weekend? Seems that people would have more time to trade since it's a weekend.

Just a random question here. Since Gox supports several currencies, do those markets also adhere by the going exchanges rates of the dollar and the euro? For example, the dollar drops versus the euro one day, would the Gox market reflect this or would there be a significant delay of a few days?
Gox charges flat 2.5% "from their bank" to exchange, though as was pointed out earlier in another thread, often the spread between difference currencies on gox is <2.5%

How much was seized in the Wells Fargo account? If 2.9 Million was seized from dwolla, i would expect at least a similiar balance in the WF account (if not more).
Also, how much have they spent on legal defense? 8 mil goes pretty quick when your fighting international terrorism charges.

This question doesn't make sense. $2.9 Million was seized - they made $8 Million recently.
There are no international terrorism charges - you pulled that straight out of your ass.

Then you can see 20 posts/minute there.

Most credit unions will have a routing number where you can receive wires, they just can't send them since they aren't technically banks. Most regional banks would not have this problem as they are banks. The difference is in Credit Unions and Banks. Credit Union's also cannot send ACH transfers, it is usually done by a 3rd party 'bill payment' solution, which are usually a PITA.
This is why I can't stand using credit unions, because they just don't have any of the tools necessary for business transactions.

A news item get blown out of proportion?! On THIS forum of all places?! I never thought I'd live to see the day...
Yes but at the same time, a high constant fee is a good way to lock "most" people out but keep it legal for you and your pals (provided you are rich or funded by the rich).
For example, from reading these forums I learned the term "dollar denominated account" a few months ago. So I googled around found just one bank (UBS) that offered foreign currency denominated accounts. I thought it might be a good idea to diversify a bit into euros, yuan, etc. Called them up -- not going to happen unless I was going to deposit > 1 million USD. Too much overhead and paperwork...
Ironically, there's a trick that lets you do it in a small way with the company we love-to-hate: Paypal. If someone sends you money you can choose to hold it in the currency it was sent...
Schwab, Fidelity, and HSBC are a few examples of banks that offer multi-denominated accounts in the USA.
All require no minimum or a small minimum (I think HSBC is $5000, fidelity and schwab are $0 minimum).

My stuck coins that finally showed up from MtGox are now on Bitstamp. Thanks to the delay, I have made a handsome profit on those few. Now I have my original $ and some extra coins.
Edit:
Where is this stability around 280-300 we heard about? 328 already.
I guess we have the flash-crash to 250 to look forward too.
Congrats on getting your coins finally, I've been waiting for days now, and am also so far not too upset with the result, but when it starts crsahing and i can't sell....

Highly recommend everybody double check their BTC withdraw's from Gox for the past few weeks and make sure that they all actually ended up going through. I found one 3 weeks old that still isn't on the blockchain in my history.

LOL, I wouldn't be surprised if someone's running a 'bot' maintaining that figure.
TOo many computer nerds sitting around watching their computers with nothing to do all day.

smoke a joint if you really want to puke, but the water is a must.
This thread is just too much sometimes. A mix between crazy rants, people flaming at each other, drinking advice from a bunch of alcoholics, and even the occasional irrelevant bitcoin analysis...
All in a days work i guess.

Does the .exe tool connect to their MySQL db or does one need a username/password...?
In the tech crunch screenshot there is information populated into the admin tool, which would lead me to believe it was fully functioning or that screenshot is BS.

The "bitcoin community" is haunted by zombies -- people and entities that should have been expelled and forgotten long ago but are still walking around doing damage. Mark Karpeles and the Shrem Karpeles & Friends Foundation are the two egregious examples. (The former founder of Brazil's BitcoinRain is our local example here.)
It seems that being "a respected member of the bitcoin community" is more like a nobility title than a job. Once you become one, you remain one for life, no matter what mess and damage you do.
Two-bit idiot accused two members of the Board of having had privileged access of some sort at MtGOX. Now he says that he is backing down because the community closed ranks around those people, and because he does not want to give ammunition to "bitcoin's formibdable enemies". Can't he see that by doing so he
is doing just that?
MtGOX could be dismissed as a scam by done by a single-person, it the community had been quick to disown him as soon as his management of the exchange became suspicious and harmful to his clients. Instead we saw many "respected members of the community" support him.
See for instance Roger Ver's emphatically vouching for the solvency of MtGOX, when he must have been conscious that he had not enough evidence of it. Was he motivated by his friendship to Mark, or by his belief that preserving the image of MtGOX was important to preserve the public image of bitcoin? Either way, he apparently thought that such motive was more improtant than preventing investors from putting their money and bitcoins into a dubious business. In the end, his testimonial only hurt the image of bitcoin even more: "Is there anyone in that community that we can trust?"
The about-face of the Two-Bit Idiot seem to be another instance of that mentality, and to me has the same effect as Ver's testimonial...
I agree, seems the only solution is for community to setup our own foundation and sever ties with the bitcoin foundation.
something i just read about peter
http://www.aarongreenspan.com/writing/essay.html?id=98Yeah foundation has been a mess for a while now.
