BBC One in UK has just had its first feature on bitcoin on its technology section.

Seemed to be fairly impartial -mentioning many benefits of bitcoin but also silk road association.

When will people get over the fact that people buy drugs with Bitcoin. JUST like any real world money.

Thing is drugs are the only thing that bitcoin is better to be used for buying instead of fiat.

No, its better for porn and gambling too. And it's better for some difficult to reach payments like those to defdist, wikileaks and such.

The biggest problem of btc adoption right now is its high volatility, making it unfriendly for store of wealth. Thus, making payers go through  an expensive process of money exchanging.

It's because of people who misuse even a great idea just for their personal wealth instead of helping it out that I slowly lose faith in human society.
I disagree with your thinking. It is not the solution to force people into altruism, nor to expect them to so behave.

The real solution is to create a system that incorporates selfish human nature and functions well with it. I think Bitcoin is very close to that kind of solution and that is why I expect it to function in spite of hoarding (and perhaps even because of it).

If Bitcoin will need some altruistic help to survive, than it is better that its idea perishes and is replaced with newer, better one. I have spoken.

I'm in Germany as well and do worry a bit about the future of Bitstamps bank in Slovania. I think they are fine for the rest of the year but who knows about the future.
I haven't traded on bitcoin.de in a while as it takes so long transferring money to another persons account, waiting for the verification, etc. Also been taken advantage of their 2X.

Do you know when we can use the Bitcoin.de new banking partnership? They hopefully have made changes to their account already to allow for easy integration.

I'm from Slovenia and this is what I think and know: there are approximately two types of banks here, foreign franchise banks (Unicredit, Sberbank, Hypo Bank...) and the other group, which comprises of banks either state-owned (NLB, NKBM, Factor Banka, ), either bought by managers, tycoon-style (Probanka). The first group runs pretty well. And Bitstamp has its account at Unicredit bank, which stands quite well for slovenian standards, perhaps best of them all. But the second group, representing perhaps 75% (this is without checking but I think I'm right) of slovenian banking sector, has found itself drowning in bad real-estate loans. And the government is at this time trying to fill up a hole with depth of the Baikal lake with a teaspoon.

Like most european countries, we also have this institute, called the Bank of Slovenia, and all the banks in the state are its members. So when one of the banks loses its steam, that institute makes sure that business on the failed bank goes on and steps in with its capital if necessary. The problem is - what if 75% of the banking sector fails? What does that mean for surviving (mostly foreign franchise) banks? I don't really know. Would that hurt Unicredit, which at least now performs quite ok?

What would happen if we would face the Cyprus-type haircuts? I think Bitstamp needs to seek out some other banks. But I think they're working on that, perhaps have it ready.

That's because there is nothing "special" about it.  It's just a crypto-currency.  It prevents spam and can be used natively without trust lines.  Use it, don't use...Outside of the fact that each account needs about 100 XRP reserves (less than $1) for the prevention of spam, it's really totally irrelevant to ones use of the network.  It's just one of dozens of potential fiat and crypto currencies.  I really don't understand why people are so obsessed with XRP.  Chances are, XRP is never really going to be worth anything significant, so who cares?

Transaction time is much faster, and they require no mining, which means that less energy and hardware is used to secure transactions with the Consensus system. I assume there is also no need to store the blockchain on the hard drives of thousands of users. I think it's worth speculating on.

Funny to see the almighty Draghi being terrified by... a girl with a bag of confetti! Is this the man who when he talks the "markets" go crazy? Oh Please!

The funny thing to me is, the girl there has no idea whatsoever, what she is protesting against. I bet she is of an anti-capitalist bolshevik sort. A useful idiot, who does not understand that a fight against capitalism is a fight against her own prosperous life. I bet she is against everything that this bitcoin crowd here stands for.

Don't understand me in a wrong way - I oppose the central banks too. Just not by pacting with bolsheviks. Ever.

The core devs have no incentive to fix the scaling problem if the price is high. You wanna wait until the fee market is in effect and Zuckerberg rolls out FBcoin with zero fees? I'll buy back in when and if the 1MB4EVA crowd cashes out.   I started buying at $6 so my battle is won.

First block over 1MB and I'm back in.

Have you read about the segregated witness implementation yet?

Well if bitcoin gained some new investors, they will need some time (days) to get their renmimbis to the exchanges. So yeah, we can probably expect some action in the following days.

No, the best solution is lightning network, that comes on top of segwit. If you're sending some really small transaction such as one rupee, there will be no fee.

There is a consideration to be made about ETFs being allowed to operate; maybe these ETFs to be are currently accumulating BTC assets?

I wonder where is the old good Barry: why didn't he sign the suspension? Jihan has Bitcoin Cash anyway, probably this was his plan anyway. Now that he accepts BCH for the miners it gets interesting.

One battle has been won but the war is not over.

In the meanwhile GO BITCOIN GO!

And sadly that was true. We should have understood that the whole NYA crap was a weapon of mass distraction. Alternative Cash has been created as a way to take over Bitcoin.

Thanks @AlexGR and fluidjax for your posts.

Let me declare here that I'm on the core side as most of you guys.

Now, ALL things taken into consideration, THIS IS GOOD.

Because:
- Jihan will get himself out of the market, because the economic majority will stay with main chain
- he will become the most hated person in the universe
- other miner producers will take his market share and he will slowly but surely be FINISHED.

It is good when a toxic MF like that schemes himself into oblivion. A fucking holiday, that's what it is!
