On a side note, this is pretty bullish news for LTC on gox. That post just means they're checking items off their list, eventually leading up to the implementation of LTC. Beats me why they wouldn't want to implement it either, it would reap them huge profits. So i'm stocking up on some ltc.

LTC is going nuts today, up a little over 19%.

I'm assuming these are your email addresses?  If so, that's pretty strange.  It is a new site though, so I'm sure they have their bugs to work out.

I see big players moving to Bitstamp slowly, the volume is getting bigger each day, and starting to be almost the same as Mtgox, they have faster and better support, today I made a deposit through SEPA and it was credited the same day, I usually withdraw money and I get it the same or next day on my account..... but still I fail to understand why people still trade on Mtgox after all this shit....

I think you might have answered your own question.  People still prefer Gox because of the consistently higher volume.  I think this is the only thing that's keeping Bitstamp from taking the lead.  As you said though, Bitstamp is slowly overtaking Gox and if they don't get their banking issues resolved it's only a matter of time before Bitstamp becomes the market leader.

Bitcoin Withdrawal
You are not allowed to withdraw bitcoins at the moment.

Could there have been some major hack attempt involving a bunch of accounts that they have now temporarily frozen?

I have been getting emails last couple of days for the first time from 'support@btcguild.com', with subjects like 'You Lost 3.201 bitcoin', and there is a link to download something (which is obviously malware) in the email.

These emails only started a couple of days ago, and it is the email address I use for my Bitstamp account. I am not registered on BTC Guild.

I have received these as well.  Never been a member of BTC Guild either.

Do you have any proof of sending 50k to mtgox? This is not speculation is throwing money off the window. You might win, but still it's stupid to do.

Did you make that deposit today and got it in instantly?
Yes I made this today and it should arrive tomorrow based on my previous transactions. It takes about 1 business day for money to arrive.

Well done. You will probably buy more than 500 BTC with that amount.. If Gox can pull their shit together you will be looking at a huge instant profit.

In other news: my concern is not Gox being insolvent "because they lost the coins". My concerns is they are in VERY deep shit for various reasons and funds might be stuck in there for very long.

EUR withdrawals still worked you say? Only smallish ones and VERY slowly. When it takes 6 weeks to process a fiat withdrawal, then something VERY bad is happening. I mean... If I tell to my bank to do a 300k transfer, they do it immediately, and in max. 2/3 days the money arrives to the account where I sent it. If they have to wait WEEKS to be able to send the money, then there is a serious problem somewhere. They won't tell us what is the problem and they make up BS excuses about their "huge volume" overwhelming the banks. In my book, that's very worrying.
From what I understand their bank account has limits of say 200k EUR per day. That means waiting queue. They may be incompetent dealing with the legal issues, (e.g 5m USD frozen in US) and are stuck with these low limit bank accounts. I can see mtgox slowly losing it's market share due to their inability to take care of these issues, but as long as they're not arrested (and I do realize this is a risk so I try to limit my exposure to any exchanges) they will keep pumping funds out slowly, but surely imo. Long story short I don't believe Mark has some evil masterplan to run off with all the btc, nor do I believe they are insolvent. They just can't deal with the "real world".

I am of this opinion as well.  I think incompetence is driving this situation more than anything else.

Those are the same limits as before, for a verified account.

If you have real news please bring them on the table.

They're the limits for a standard account aren't they? That's what it says on mine anyway and I'm not verified.

Anyway as I said in all cases withdrawals have still not been re-enabled, as far as I am aware.
I learned today you must be verified to withdraw anything.  Angry

The daily BTC withdrawal limit for a verified account is 1000 BTC.  I just logged into my account and checked.  So, this hasn't changed.

I definitely didnt buy at 155 on Gox and sell at $170. Nooo way, didnt do that.
In april I bought at $50.01 by bidding in front of the walls at the bottom of $50. I then sold at $57... It seemed like good profit at the time.

I sold 3900 LTC at around $4.5 and then watched it climb to $48 within HOURS.

News of overall positive changes from Bitfinex today:

Quote
Dear Customers,

In our ongoing effort to deliver the very best in cryptocurrency trading, Bitfinex is pleased to announce several changes and enhancements that will be effective on March 15th 2014 at 24:00:00 UTC.

New Commission Structure:

We have decided to adjust the commission structure to reward traders that “add liquidity” to the order book. This so-called “maker/taker” pricing strategy is a common feature in capital markets around the world and we believe that implementing such a strategy is in the interests of Bitfinex and its traders. We consider this change to be somewhat experimental and we will act quickly to make any necessary adjustments should it prove to be disruptive. The new fee structure will be as follows:

BTC/LTC Executed in Last 30 Days ******** Current Fee **** New Add Fee ***** New Remove Fee

Less than 500 *************************** 0.15% ********* 0.10% ************ 0.20%
500 or more, but less than 2,000 ************ 0.14% ********* 0.08% ************ 0.20%
2,000 or more, but less than 5,000 ********** 0.13% ********* 0.06% ************ 0.20%
5,000 or more, but less than 15,000 ********* 0.12% ********* 0.04% ************ 0.20%
15,000 or more, but less than 25,000 ******** 0.11% ********* 0.02% ************ 0.20%
25,000 or more ************************* 0.10% ********* 0.00% ************* 0.20%

Please note the following:

Our highest applied fee (0.2% for liquidity removers) is the lowest in the market.
Traders in the top tier trade commission free when adding liquidity.
This change in pricing structure is designed to be revenue neutral to Bitfinex on an average per BTC basis.
We will be revisiting the 30 day volume brackets in the coming weeks in an effort to create a smoother tier system.

New Banking Fees:
We have resisted making changes to our fiat banking policy, but we can no longer continue to absorb the increasing costs of maintaining multiple banking relationships around the world. As such, we are imposing a 0.10% fee on all withdrawals and deposits, subject to a $20 minimum. These fees are still amongst the lowest in the industry and we believe that this new fee structure represents a sustainable fiat banking model as we continue to grow. We are also proud to be one of the fastest platforms in withdrawals, with an average waiting time of 2.37 working days for our customers. This will remain unchanged. Express withdrawals fees (within 24 hours) will stay at 1%.

Removal of Notify Option:
The “notify” feature available when placing orders or liquidity offers is being removed as it is almost never used and doesn’t actually work very well in certain circumstances. We are, in general, always looking to simplify our interface and prune features that no one uses or may no longer be relevant, paving the way for us to add new features to a clean and uncluttered interface.

Removal of Swap Insurance Option:
We are eliminating the swap insurance options for traders offering liquidity. The model of an insurance “pool” only works if the pool size is significant relative the size of the swap market itself, which, at ~$54k it is not.

Change in Swap Policy:
Another reason for removing swap insurance is that we have decided to effectively insure all swaps on the platform. Our order book depth and increased volume over the last several months has created an environment where we are comfortable in managing the risks associated with forced liquidations. Although we have a greater comfort level, it does not mean that such insurance is not without risks to the firm’s reserves. As such we are increasing our fee on the swaps from 10% to 15%. We believe that this is a small price for liquidity providers (instead of the previous 30% insurance option) to have greater certainty and comfort during times of increased volatility.

Change in Claim Position Feature:
In an effort to create greater interoperability between swap and cash positions, we will be allowing greater flexibility in the “Claim Position” feature for open swap positions. Previously, this feature allowed a trader to convert an open swap position into the underlying cash position only if the open P&L in the position was in excess of the swap balance, which essentially limited the use of this feature to positions with enormous positive open P&L. Going forward, this feature will also check for any excess balance in the trading wallet, effectively allowing a trader to “de-lever” their swap into the underlying fiat and cryptocurrency balances, provided, of course, that the trading wallet has sufficient funds to allow for this. This change will be particularly useful for traders would normally prefer to trade on the cash exchange, but are waiting for additional funds (wire transfer) to credit before they can trade. Now that same trader has the ability to temporarily trade on a leveraged basis and subsequently “de-lever” the position when the funds are credited to the account. This change will also allow traders to “fix” their positions, who may have inadvertently opened a position in the trading wallet instead of the exchange wallet. Please note that cost of using this feature (trade commission on underlying position) remains unchanged.

Best regards
The Bitfinex team

Regards,
The Bitfinex Team

Mark my words. We'll be back above $580 before the weekend is over. There will be a minimum $40/BTC bounce off the lows. Bargain hunters may not even get a full Saturday. I'm buying now and keeping just a little fiat handy in case it goes lower first. I've seen this happen too many times.

I didn't get the timing perfect, but I'm calling this a win. Sure as hell made me money!

Hashing straight sha256 into btc, paying 7 btc for a dragonminer, exponential difficulty never breaks even  at 0.1$/kwh.  And that is the most cost-effective hardware you can buy.  Correct me if I err.  Those 3600 daily coins cost at least 650 usd to produce unless you build hardware from scratch in bulk.

People who invest in hardware these days very rarely break even.  You're much better off just buying coins with that fiat instead.

Any movement on volume this low really means nothing.

Also, a price supported by entirely by holding and not by buyers is very weak - it is unusable by merchants due to the lack of liquidity. It is in effect a ponzi scheme.

You should be ashamed of yourself for being involved.  What would your mother think?  Go away.

I have a history of trading ponzi schemes actually, and then getting out just in time before they collapse. It all started when I was 18 years old and I partipated in a ponzi called "12 daily pro", turning $5,000 into $15,000 in a few weeks. Of course the members insisted that it was not a ponzi at the time. It was.. "the future of advertising and multi level marketing" bla bla.

Wow, I was in that as well, what a coincidence.  I was in a few others as well that were running at the same time.  Ended up a decent chunk of change.

Wall at $400 was chewed up nicely.  It will be interesting to see if what's left holds.

Can I put in a short position of 1M USD with 1:17 leverage? Platform is plus500.
Thats ~ 38000btc

Will it make a dent?

I was thinking of that. First off - I don't think they offer more than 2:1 leverage, they got burnt pretty badly in the runup in Nov-13.

Second, the slippage you take is about equal to the bet amount, unless you can start an avalanche (which I don't believe).

Third, the bet is not won by just hitting the opposite goal. You need to defend yours for 90 days.

=> You can perhaps use this to make the final push and manipulate the market as usual, but not make it +EV for you

so, I live under a rock and I am lazy as hell

can someone tell me what just happened?

Karpeles made an appearance on Oprah earlier today and pulled the private keys for 600k coins out of his ass.

One at a time.

That would lower the price I think. 600k BTC lost is 2.9% of all Bitcoin that will ever be mined (more than 5% of currently mined ones)

You had to be there to fully appreciate the bullishness of the situation. My tv's still sticky.

Haha, you made my day, thanks!

I've been out of the loop for a little bit.  What caused the sudden $200+ rise over the past couple of weeks?

Few Testarossas stayed with one owner for 30 years. Those who bought it new got what they wanted. Those who bought them dirt cheap 10-15 years ago got a taste of the dreams of their youth. And those who bought them as an investment at half the price they are now, got what they wanted. I've yet to meet an unhappy Testarossa owner.

I've owned a few borderline supercars but would never go overboard into a proper one. They invoke some violent reactions from people. And lower tier cars as an 'investment' rather than the blue chip stuff are a mirage if you own them for long periods. They'll break even maybe but all that maintenance and taxation adds up rapidly.

It's a different matter if you've bought within the last few years maybe but they're only worth what others'll pay. Not the most liquid thing you can ever own. I think a shit ton of people will be burned with the more modest stuff. Old style BMW M3 Evo Sport's go for up to $150,000. I nearly bought one at $10,000 but it was a dog. That doesn't smell sustainable to me.

I'd happily spend my days polishing a Diablo, an '89 M5 and a 993 when I'm not watching the charts. You have to enjoy it a bit if it's gonna be worthwhile. XJ220 is still underpriced, I'd polish the shit out of that!

As underwhelming as the XJ220 is, I wouldn't go anywhere near that thing Smiley.
