Remember that really good movie Titanic and how that nice cellist didn't let go of his cello even though he knew that he was going to die like Leonardo Dicaprio, who also died?
That was really sad, but really moving and beautiful too.

well, you might have to find someone to replace the 49k and 39k contracts that got margin called on OkCoin for one thing.
Well, that's 49k and 39k that won't be dumped later. You just gotta look at it the right way.
That 450 resistance is proving to be a little stronger than I thought, but soon as we cut through it? Up to 496.666, CCMF (UTB!)!

There has been too much violence... Too much pain... But I have an honorable compromise. Just walk away.
Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives.
Just walk away and we'll give you safe passage in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror...

Someone who built a currency out of a mistrust of the government puts all of his bitcoins (which are not secure unless you own the keys) in the hands of a trust which is enforceable by government.

Thanks for those clips, yefi.
In my humble bumble opinion, those kinds of appearances would not rule out Kleiman from being Satoshi. Kleinman was characterized as both a recluse and also someone who kept people out of some of his personal matters. Appearing on TV is not inconsistent with being a recluse, especially when the commentary was subject matter specific (and not about Kleinman himself).
I don't find either of those appearances nor his previous employment as a law enforcement person to be inconsistent with a person like satoshi who likely spent a considerable amount of time considering cryptography and ways to make a digital currency from such.
He strikes me as being exactly what's on the tin, a computer forensic expert. No more, no less. As I know well, looks can be deceiving however.
Anyway, I see he
gave a webinar. Looking at the slides, he used American spelling, e.g., organizing,
which you can compare with Satoshi's.

On a Sub I was on in the early 80s (
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Patrick_Henry_%28SSBN-599%29) we had an old no longer needed computer with drum memory. It had a bad starting cap so would not spin up on it's own. But if we wrapped a cord on the shaft an got it spinning it would work. It's the only pull start computer I've ever seen.
I guess I should have started this with 'This is a real no-s^*%er'
Youngsters with your hotrodded electrified Babbage engines... Foolishness! A slipstick and a sturdy hand-crank adding machine is plenty good enough, one EMP and kiss all your newfangled electrogizmos goodbye

Indeed. It is very entertaining and if it helped me to buy at <$440 on Monday, so much the better.

Don't you buy BTC from a vending machine? How much do you pay over spot?

I buy most of my coins from various ATMs. The rest I buy directly from people.
On Monday I paid 5% over BitcoinAverage spot at the newest "lowest rates in town" ATM. It was a buy-only Lamassu machine with absolutely no identification required. It doesn't print anything so I was a little concerned about the lack of a receipt but by the time I got home after running an errand it had already been confirmed 4 times. Luckily I brought my own paper wallet.
5%? So if we break $460 today, you'll pretty much break even? Not bad...

I checked out of curiosity, seems like their block explorer is full of mining and poloniex txs... so I don't think they are taking any load from BTC. Actually it wouldn't make any sense to do so as LTC, DASH and DOGE have more widespread adoption than ETH - they are the primary candidates for taking more txs.
But we can still use Segwit on testnet, right?

At some point old pubkey coins might be easily hackable.
Whelp, that certainly puts my mind at rest

Seriously tho, isn't our money protected by maths and stuff? Wasn't that factually and scientifically proven and rhythmically guaranteed?
It is a safe assumption that cryptography can be broken (at some future X point) so you just have an arms race where you upgrade your cryptography and move your coins to better cryptographic schemes when vulnerabilities appear - or ever earlier. In any case, preferably,
before you get cracked
It's no different for governments or banks really. You just have to be ahead of the game.
Oy! For this I left legacy finance?

No it would not. It would not be more accurate to say that about Grover. Grover like Bitcoin. Grover's algorithm is nice, not a threat.

its useful for buying 100 speate cups of coffees instantly.

Close Channel for standard bitcoin fee
cool huh?
I don't get why people are worked up about this, or why this Lightning is taking such a long time to develop.
Here's a way to solve the coffee problem that's both simpler, more secure, and more elegant than Thunder Cats:
1. Walk into Starbucks.
2. Buy a gift card for 100 cups of coffee, with BTC or USD.
3. Use gift card each time you need to buy stuff from Starbucks. Functionally identical to Lightning/thunder,
4. Profit!

i agree for coffee like TX, thats the way to go.
but for things like coinbase accounts sending 1000's of payments to bitpay... lighting and or thunder is a big deal.
I'm o.k. with sticking with starbucks as an example. We are not talking about 1 user buying several cups of coffee, but instead possibly 100 users or 1,000 users buying coffee through the day or the week or whatever period of time that the vender chooses before finally resolving with the blockchain .. and then at the end of the day, week or month, all of the transactions are resolved that are within that channel for $.10 or whatever is the applicable fee for the whole bundle of transactions.
Each one of the "1,000 users buying coffee through the day" will have to
buy a gift card open a payment channel with Starbucks. The only difference is Starbucks would have access to all the "gift card" money if sold gift cards, while no one would have access to BTC with Lightning.
So not sure what you're trying to say.
