@jayguanjee the $4k-5k figure was the price of bitcoin, not my investment

and @oda.krell some nice math skills you got there. I was impressed that you would call it right

I realize that a lot of us have high hopes for BTC prices to go into the 2x, 5x, 10x, 100x and potentially further... but really, it does NOT seem psychologically healthy to count on it.. I feel pretty good if my investment maintains its value, but surely, my perception of price appreciation on top of that is icing on the cake... In other words, we have to also maintain other wealth building and appreciation strategies.... though I have to admit that I, also, have placed a larger and larger percentage of my investment nuts into the BTC basket.

i look at all cryptos as a potential 100% loss - and as such have not gone balls deep.

but it would be a damn shame to have 0 if/when the ATH is breached and maintained...

things would be a lot more relaxed if not for the incessant BS artistes & their ilk.

Sent them an email. Waiting on a response.
Hopefully I hear something tomorrow.

This may be a blessing in disguise. I was about to transfer a good portion of my savings into BFX.
If there is a glitch then at least the loss was minimal. Instead of loosing everything.
I received an email back a minute ago saying they have put the money back into my account.

Heads up for everyone on BFX. They said there is a glitch that made incorrect charges on a few accounts.
I know this was happening yesterday and the day before.
I wonder what could be causing it

Anyone know what could be going on?

They are upgrading their software...

they are cashing out and running off..... (hell its what I would do)

Agreed!

If it wasnt for being lumped in with moral-less entities such as this wall of waffle-text posting clown, things would be much more comfortable.

it feels as though a bunch of lonely shut-ins have joined us and claimed us as their own - and there are millions more yet to arrive...

As much as we all want increased adoption, knowing the vast majority of them will be no morals having, life-story repeat-whining d-bags just makes me cringe.

The climate has changed. I have been buying every week for six months and the downtrend is definitively broken.

Buying every week 0.01btc is not considered buying. Nobody cares about such low amounts of money. Even my housecleaner earns more in tips than you have spent in 6 months on bitcoin.
Poor bastard.

The amount Inca spent is irrelevant...Greatest transfer of wealth in history coming!

Up until now the stance of creditors has been 'all the money and your prized assets' with a gun at your head - the model the IMF and World Bank has used for decades with remarkable success in Asia and South America. Nice to see it being defeated in Europe, and ironic that the IMF is now backing Greek debt relief.

When you put it like that it's actually quite sickening that a rich european country should be let off the hook while lots of south american and african countries have been struggling with insurmountable debt since the 60s and 70s. I still think sharing the burden is in everyone's best interest though, but ...

BAAAMMM!! And the light shines through! For me this is the most important lesson of all of this - for people to wake up and see that this has been going on globally for decades and is the scourge of American 'capitalism'. Hopefully having it on our own doorstep will help people to realise what it is and that it is simply unacceptable.
Yes, we will all have to share the burden to move through this and there are many worse affected countries than Greece that are still on the hook, or have been milked dry and left to rot. It is insidious and evil and has been done with intent.
Meanwhile the banksters retire to their islands with the loot ...

I missed out the other part of the policy, which is to 'support' (instate) a regime that will continue to impose the inevitable repression needed continue the cycle. The moment opposition arise it is crushed, physiclly or metaphorically, or a leader dies in an unexplained plane crash. This is not the stuff of conspiracy...it's real. This is a damn good read on the subject ...

fuck the bear market fuck the sonsobitches whos life purpose seems to be to slam the price lower to buy back at profit at everyone elses expense fuck em ! why do we *have to* go down when most everybody wants a higher price aside from the *maybe* couple hundred well funded bear manipulator leverage short dumpers ? deal is if we run past 300 and stay there, the shorter dumper manipulators are done screwing the market below that - they lose at that point, by varying degrees - be it a stable 300 or a run to 350 or 400 or giant pump to 500 and beyond - they've banked on being able to hold the price below 300 indefinitely - NOW is the time to price them out of the market and end the bullshit downward manipulation ! force the bears out ! keep the price above their loss level ! this is the only way forward !

Guys like you are the reason why I love the bear market so much. It’s such a pleasure to make huge profits while the price is crashing and dudes like you are blaming me for shorting the shit out of it.

FActually its being a psycho/sociopath that gives guys like you such pleasure at others suffering...

Oh, this thread is getting bigger and bigger!

Anyways, is it relatively safe to move my entire savings into Bitcoin? I want help from experts about this..

For sure, it's.

Why wouldn't it be not ?

Price may drop to $100 or something like this and I can lose everything very fast, right? Is it even possible? I'm really afraid of this.

Well, you will find my reply highly optimistic and realistic for me, so please don't understand as I'm encouraging you or anything.

First of all, always don't risk what you can't afford to lose.

Second, since first doesn't apply for me, because I'm all in, I can't see that bitcoin will go to zero or will take a high dip to $100, even if it took, I will be ultra-happy so I can buy more coins.

Third, as I always say, forget about the normal Joe like you and me, do you think all that bitcoin startups and VC with all effort, money and power put into bitcoin, is put without seeing tomorrow ? We are talking here about millions of millions.

At last, I see a better tomorrow with Bitcoin, not only me, a lot here agrees with me and we as a community march together for a better tomorrow, and let this reply be the witness Wink

ive read this numerous times - care to explain?

LOL

I just stumbled on this post now.

Yes of course I know about time zones, an invention of Sanford Fleming, I believe. You seem to be missing the point of my repetition.

It's always morning, afternoon, evening or night somewhere in the world, but it's always morning in Bitcoinland.

It's like my formerly frequent references to coffee. When I realized some people totally missed the metaphor and thought I was talking about the beverage, I toned it down a notch.

I can't believe that some people reacted so negatively to what was intended to be a pleasant daily hello and recap of the day's status.

At least your comment was civilized. Some people actually seemed perturbed and made a more hostile response. To these people I'll just say, "Get a life".

Cheers.  Smiley

We're down 3 USD today, what is all the panic about? For real world terms 3 USD will buy you a coffee or a burger.
That is literally the price loss over the last 12-24 hours, let's all calm down shall we & see how this plays out. It's not exactly time to start tying a noose & hang ourselves Grin

3$ when you have 200btc it's a loss of about 600$, it every depends on how many coin you own, if u have 1 o worries but if u have more a dump of 10$ would be a lot of money

I'm a HODLER so I have no worries at all. The vast majority of my stash is in cold storage, I'm waiting for at least 5 years. You haven't lost anything during a period of downwards price movement unless you sell at a loss. Nobody sells on the way down unless they're retarded.

Oh how retarded I was selling on the way down from 1000. How retarded I was to more than 6x my stack on the way down. lol. Comon mate, better permabull arguments than telling people selling on the way down is retarded. Selling now could be a golden move if we drop 50 bucks.

That post, along with his BBC interview video, shows Wright to have a very dislikeable and at the same time needy personality.

He's seemingly self-absorbed, bitter, internally contradictory (continuously publicly proclaiming that he wants privacy). Such a disposition is no way consistent with a person who would have compiled bitcoin's first whitepaper and engaged the more than two year follow-up efforts.

In other words, it makes no sense that he seems to want to go to such efforts to show that he's Satoshi (in spite of his claims that he was supposedly forced into such a position because he is concerned about the privacy of his staff, etc etc).  If you really want privacy, just say you are not Satoshi and you made it all up, and you would be more believable...   This whole thing makes little to no sense, except for the conclusion that he is a fraud because he appears to be trying too hard.

TIL Craig Wright is 95% of the pro-trolls in here!

What has he controversially posted? I don't read r/bitcoin and I can't face wading through page after page to find his post. The hate came with the Neptunes and Titans

no, the hate started right the moment knc announced their first product. literally thousands of posts full of hate.

you exaggerate a bit - it wasnt 'literally thousands' nor right from the moment the announced their first product.

there was skepticism, there was disbelief, there was hope that this wasnt going to be another ass-raping of tens of thousands of dollars..

if you truly never understood the hate, there is something very wrong.

have you always been 600watt or have you had other handles?

not a word about the hacked/leaked userdata...??

http://themerkle.com/hacked-bitcointalk-user-data-finally-surfaces-on-dark-net/

Just a few days ago, the data stolen from the BitcoinTalk.org hack in 2015 was posted for sale on dark net. A hacker going by DoubleFlag, is selling BitcoinTalk.org’s database. The same hacker is said to be responsible for the 68 million emails and hashed passwords from Dropbox that went for sale on dark net not too long ago.

BitcoinTalk.org was originally hacked in May of 2015, but the data wasn’t posted until a few days ago. DoubleFlag seems to have been the first one able to get his hands on it, and no one after him for that matter. The stolen data was only accessible by using data breach notification sites like Hacked-DB and LeakedSource.

The data base is going for 1 Btc, roughly $610.00. The file contains over 500,000 accounts, complete with details like log in info, IP addresses, passwords, email, and phone numbers. To break it down, there are 469,540 passwords that have been encrypted with SHA-256, and 44,868 passwords encrypted wit SMF encryption.

Sample data was on display, showing off more than 600 accounts, just to validate DoubleFlag’s claims.

Even though the passwords are encrypted, it doesn’t take much to decrypt them in reasonable time, and have access to the accounts that have been leaked. Warnings have been issued to clients and customers, stating the data has been sold, and to make sure to keep a close eye on any and all accounts connected with BitcoinTalk.org.

This isn’t the first case of a database being stolen and leaked online, and it won’t certainly be the last. Earlier in the year, 427 million Myspace accounts were on the very dark net site these ones are being sold on. In May, 117 million LinkedIn accounts went for sale on other dark net markets, as well as 33 million Twitter accounts.

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/videos/2016-12-19/winklevoss-twins-prepare-first-ever-bitcoin-fund

Constant pictures/ video spliced in of 'physical bitcoins' in the background (which everyone knows are collectable and not the real bitcoin, makes it look like a toy), the interviewee pointing out negative after negative, etc.  Both the interviewer and the interviewee were literally laughing and scoffing at the idea of an ETF the whole time, like it was one big joke.

It's like the Media has an agenda to keep Average Joe investors skeptical of Bitcoin and scared away from touching it, and especially investing in the ETF.

None of my friends have mentioned bitcoin to me recently.

Now...these are the friends I was boring back in 2013/14 about it and when the shit hit the fan and it dropped to $200 I bought them all up. My friends know this.

This has all happened and not one of my mates has asked or text me about bitcoin.

Is this because:-

A. They all know the price now and don't want to talk about it as they feel sick knowing they laughed and made jokes.

B. They haven't even heard the news as the media have hardly reported on it.

C. They hate me and never liked me in the first place bitcoin or no bitcoin.

haha same here. I entered in bitcoin world in nov. 2013, and bought my first bitcoin on the top. Ande then lost in cuz I've been goxed.
But then I was more cautious, bought almost all of my stash at 200$.
Now all of my friends and family regrets that they didn't invested back then.
And some are asking me to invest their money now  Grin And I'm like: Really do you want to be the fool who buys on the top and sells at the bottom? And they still want to invest...

80% of people here are PERMABULLS and do just 1 thing, they post "HODL", "sorry for your loss, get cheap coins" or "up, up, bulls!". What is the purpose of such posts?

Permabulls proved to be right. On the contrary, people saying that bitcoin is broken and should be sold out proved to wrong. Simple, isn't it?
No permabulls werent right. They say HODL all the time. That makes them lose much money, because if they start looking at charts and analyze them they will see good moments for selling and buying coins for cheaper. Going permabull with 100% HODL ratio is just stupid imo. And people recommending that to others are also stupid for me - they have nothing worthy to say about chart, that's why they post "HODL" - only way to add their 2 cents to the speculation.

without that bitcoin is utterly useless.

Well, on the bright side, if anyone wants to convert their digital rat poison currency to money, both JMBullion and Provident metals accept bitcoin as a payment method for gold and silver now (although the GSR highly favors silver atm):

https://www.jmbullion.com/

https://www.providentmetals.com/

silvergoldbull also takes bitcoin

All these metal merchants stick huge premiums over spot and then offer piddly discounts for using ANY form of payment.

Right now it's literally the alt-coin lotto. Pick an altcoin. Any altcoin. If you're lucky it will get pumped, summarily dumped and then you'll be rich.

I was lucky with ZEC had his 80% increase, but my wallet couldt move the ZEC out lol. Problem was solved after the pump. Anyway seems just like some millionare game to me. They just decide which one to pump,  wait for the FOMO traders to kick in and than they are getting out, and on and on it goes. This almost makes it impossible to predict those prices. Just 1 small announcement and the price increases with 170%. They are just letting Dash bleed like they did to ripple. And after that they are going to pump dash again because of screw you FOMO traders. Patterns are clear to everyone here who have trading experience. Anyway i stay away from coins like Litecoin and Ripple. Far far away.

Mexico announced a bill saying "Bitcoin is officially viewed as a digital asset to Mexican exchanges"
https://news.bitcoin.com/mexico-bill-bitcoin-game-changer/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

Will this designation improve or hinder bitcoin's growth in the long run?
It is a good publication for bitcoin but some may not accept it or even oppose it, maybe in the long run it may but people are afraid of changes once in a while.
It is strange to see Mexico designate it as such s a and Japan viewing it viable fiat which can be used in their banking system while Thailand has straight out banned it from being used at all.
Until the day that every country can just accept it for it is then I am afraid bitcoin will never come in being recognized as a true currency that it should be.

Do not ever believe it when a news article states that a country has banned Bitcoin. Most people do not verify it because they do not speak the native language.

Every time I have checked into one of these "X country just banned Bitcoin!", it is usually the central bank making a statement that they will not allow Bitcoin on their system. It's like saying that Burger King burgers are banned because the CEO of McDonalds releases a statement saying that no Burger King burgers will be sold by McDonalds. Then McDonalds goes on to warn about the risk you are taking by eating a Burger King burger.

Sure, some central banks have a tighter hold on their country's government than others but there is never a ban. If you go on localbitcoins you can buy/sell in every country in the world except Germany. And that is only because Germany declared Bitcoin a "private money". But in so doing, they tied all of their regulations to money to Bitcoin which included having a license to run an exchange (and they considered localbitcoins an exchange).
Well banned isn't the right word my mistake. But Thailand are arresting people for using it so it is a law.
And I didn't see this on the news. It was mentioned on here by another member. So this is were I first heard of it. And I was also in a questionable sense when I heard of this.

proof that 'thailand is arresting people ?

lol looks like they found a more efficient way to mine blocks! ~ what stops anyone else from reverse engineering those chips? haha :-D obsolutely nothing! ..ohh what their patent? ya sure...bwaaa

you re still not getting it fully...
Allegedly, they sold miners (like S9) to Joe Public with a feature under discussion turned OFF, but they turned it ON for themselves.
At least this is one of the suppositions, and a proof of the puding is in fact that they produce abnormally high number of empty blocks, which is predicted to happen if they activate the feature.

Did they do something illegal?

is eating excrement illegal??

does the legal status make it more, or less acceptable?

ASIC mining has always been a den of thieves, scam-artists, conmen and bullshitters.

God knows how many people have been ripped off and turned off bitcoin by collapsed, scammy or outright thieving cheats surrounding ASIC mining schemes. Jihan is just the latest King Rat shithead that is at the top of the dung-heap for now ... the sooner people get used to the idea that ASIC miner producers and mining farms are generally a bunch of scumbag fucktards that have never given two shits about bitcoin the sooner we can move ahead on a sound philosophical basis.

Any devs who try to make nice with the miners is setting themselves up for fail ... the miners need to be treated like shit (mostly because they are a bunch of shit) or else they will ruin it.

Even monkeys and babies know to avoid unhelpful, anti-social individuals.

now that is a fucking bullseye!!

good morning sir the copyright people are trying sooo hard to stop bitcoin and file sharing ~ it's reaching epic battle mode ... they are trying to threaten legal action against their own customers ~ fekking cable companys are feeling the squeeze of peer-to-peer sharing and private (anonymous) bitcoin payment systems== they are sooo pissed ==gotta love it ! :-D //^weeeee

There's nothing they can do about the real New World Order and they know it. True globalism isn't governments or other corporations. It's decentralized worldwide networks of peers, i.e. true democracy.

A forward-thinking Torontonian named Marshall McLuhan wrote about the global village back in the 1960s, long before the internet. Now his prophecies are being fulfilled. The "information superhighway" has become more like a parking lot. The whole world is being paved over.

Napster was just the thin edge of the wedge. With each succeeding attempt to shut down p2p file sharing, they just made it stronger and more decentralized.

Their only line of attack against Bitcoin is the exchanges. In the days of Gox it was almost as easy as attacking Napster. Now multiple exchanges make them harder to attack. As more and more bitcoins are traded off-exchange by individuals, it gets harder and harder for them to interfere.

Even more important than them losing control over money and entertainment (bread and circuses?) is that they're losing control over the dissemination of information itself. I suppose they could attempt to censor the peer-community-generated content of Wikipedia but another less centralized platform would soon arise. Meanwhile people around the world are communicating more every day.

They can't stuff the cat back into the bag.

I have to quote this for reference. I completely agree with what you wrote. My only fear is that, historically speaking, when govs lose too much control over their institutions we have seen only one thing over and over again, which is war.
Power is not decentralized, nor is democrazy. We have a long way to get there eventually.

i was going to say they may not be able to stuff the cat back in the bag but they can set fire to all the bags and drown all the cats along with criminalizing (with force) the possession of bags & cloth and cat & kittens.

we're not dealing with the kind of entity that just gives up...

There is honestly nowhere for bitcoin to go without scalability.  Bitcoin is a currency, not money.  Low scalability is counterintuitive to how a currency functions.  A currency's value is entirely derived from flow not stock.  Bitcoin does not have value as a settlement network because being a store of value is the main required trait of a settlement system and there are FAR SUPERIOR stores of value that exist like gold and silver.

I think you're just pissed off that the price of bitcoin goes up while the price of gold and silver is stagnating.

Silver isn't stagnating, there's only 29 million registered ounces of silver for delivery on Comex and over ONE BILLION ounces in open interest with the highest amount of naked shorts ever seen in world history.  The paper price is completely divorced from reality.  This is why I buy it.  For anyone who wants to make money, the second you see someone manipulating the price of an asset downwards, you buy.  Whenever you see an asset artifically inflated (bitcoin), you sell.  It would only take $536 million to wipe out the Comex silver market right now - the price of a single F22.  Even the Winklevoss alone could almost wipe them out by dumping their bitcoin for silver.

The more I see the ESF/BIS attempt to rig the metals market downward - like last Friday with the most obvious manipulation ever seen - while allowing bitcoin to rise, the more it tells me bitcoin is not the place to be.  It tells me that the bankers WANT you to be in bitcoin because it's a rat trap.  They want to force you into a digital only currency.  You're doing them a favor by buying it.  They can easily come in and co-opt it via the legal system and the attack vector of exchanges and mining pools afterwards.

If bitcoin was actually a threat to bankers they would be coming at it with the same force as they do silver like this chart, but they don't try to stop bitcoin at all!  The last fucking thing I'm gonna do is allow international banking jews to herd me around into worthless assets to try and prevent the goyim from having access to real wealth.  Bitcoin is just a currency, not money.  That's why it's called cryptocurrency.  Gold and silver are money.

silver down 35-50c =/= the most obvious manipulation ever seen?

im in agreement here, r0ach should be engaged to clarify his oft-repeated claims but the facts are much more simple..

gold & silver are cumbersome at best, and subject to outright confiscation at worst.

even cash above a certain amount is viewed as suspect and therefore open for theft by govt proxy.

for me, gold is nothing more than an emergency back up like a bag of candles or waterproof matches in the event of an 'unforeseen' catastrophy.

and sadly, in my personal experience, when catastrophe strikes - the gold shops pull down their shutters and sit inside with the lights off for as long as it takes for 'disaster' to pass.

ive experienced this twice. with literal hordes of metal holding persons congregating outside with literally nothing to do other than wait.

to vilify cryptocurrencies at this early point in the game is absolute folly if not downright paid-for dishonesty!

Literally ANYONE listening to this blatant and years long FUD is committing financial suicide.

what has gold done since 2009?

what has crypto done since 2009?

Finally - try using gold ANYWHERE, to do ANYTHING...

The singular place you can get cash for it in a genuine emergency is 'cash4gold' rip off merchants who offer the scrap value for even bullion bars.

hold both, pray you never run out of either.

and DYODDFFS!!!
