How much of a gap is there between the time bids need to be in and the winners receiving their coins? If the auction coincides with BTC in one of its bubble phases, it makes you wonder who'll be doing a better job of price discovery - the auction bidders or the retail markets...
If I remember rightly with previous auctions the coins moved very rapidly post sale. What's more interesting is when bidding closes. I assume everyone's revising their ideas right now.
Just had a look. Bidding registration closed yesterday. Actual bidding takes place over a 6 hour period on November 5th. The winner is informed the day after.

Just 17 $ between Huobi and finex now
BTC-E more or less caught up too, these spreads are just fucking crazy, and sometimes the differences in valuation creates some confusion about what to do, if anything in such situations.

Recently Coinbase has been engaging in various promotionals to lower fees and increase their volume, so it should be no secret NOR conspiracy that their volume would likely increase, in part, because of their promotional efforts.

Good thing. I see now that price is not drop anymore (2 days ago support of 410$ was reached)

Any prevision about the next days?
I've been shouting about a huge cup & handle for quite some time, but none of the TA people seem to agree. It looks artificial, but that normally doesn't seem to matter to TA nerds.
Christmas profits for October to December have been taken - expect it to bounce along in the 405-430 for a few weeks until the the next messiah/scandal event hits.
You mean about the decred, bitcoin unlimited, Bitcoin XT? and we don't know nothing more yet. This is going to hurt the price again, expect 300 $ in not so much time.

Looks like the community has decided Mike Hearn's name & opinion doesn't mean shit. We found the bottom & decided to go back up. 370-400 will probably be a range we float around for a while.
It's just telling everybody bitcoin is death, so everyone has to go XT. Of course we don't give a shit of what he is saying. Is not about the blocksize (something we all agree it has to be changed), is about doing things without a consense, is about Tor censorship and a few more things.

Volatility continues to drop over a 30 and 60 day period.
60-day now at 1.488% (32nd lowest day on record) and 30-day at 0.963% (15th lowest day on record).
Due to the way historical volatility is calculated I expect 30-day to remain stable while 60-day drops to near record levels over the next 7-14 days.
EUR (.75%) almost as volatile as bitcoin.
Should people using euros dump them all and buy dollars due to the high volatility?
Maybe gold is better.

One interesting "benefit" of SegWit was to make people aware that soft forks are actually more dangerous than hard forks. With SegWit's "extension record" trick, a soft fork can achieve many of the taboo changes that were thought to require a hard fork; such as increasing the block reward (and therefore the 21 million issuance cap) or confiscating coins. As soft forks, those changes would require only the agreement of a mining majority, without the consent of the rest of the community. However, for that same reason, there is nothing that the community or the developers can do to prevent non-consensual soft forks.
Nobody forces you or anyone to use Core, so yes, you can do something if you don't agree with developers doing what they want. Users are the center of the Bitcoin ecosystem, without users the biggest network of miners is useless.

... Users are the center of the Bitcoin ecosystem, without users the biggest network of miners is useless.
Conversely, without the miners, your bitbeans are useless.
So take whatever the miners serve and say "thank you Sir, may I have another."
... beholden ...

No worries, if biggest miners leave others will come. Lots of alt coins minners will move for sure.
Anyway, 425 $ really stable.

I don't understand all this rivalry between Bitcoin and Ethereum. They serve different purposes.
It's like arguing which is better, pie or ice cream. Some people like both.
Now if you want to compare Bitcoin and Ethereum to fiat currencies, that's a different matter.
That's like comparing pie and ice cream with a steaming pile of shit.

Yes. I suppose it's because LTC helps to play in arbitration.
Is the way to stay out of Bitcoin not in Fiat. LTC was very stable over the last months.

So want the ATH to get broke...just so that bit of FUD $1226 or whatever that ATH was.....is in the past.....of course with say at least a $1100 usd 'floor' never to be broken....

The really good news is when nearly no one talk avout price. Then it means it's stable for a long time. It means that you know exactly what your coins are worth and that's true for a long time.
Bitcoin price can't be stable if measured against unstable unit of account like dollar, euro, yen, pound etc. Fiat currencies are unstable because printing press is working round the clock.

Post 17606259 (copy this link) (by pinger) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_15.02h):
I feel $890 will be the resistance point for this drop, but I question whether we will be able to hit it.
I think if we drop to $880 then a large sell off will occur. Funny thing is the drop isn't coming from china, but they are following.
I'm not ballsy (read: stupid) enough to have fiat sitting around on exchanges to take advantage of little dips like this.
I know there are ways of insta-buying BTC, but none of them are available to me, so I'll be watching from the sidelines again...
And that's precisely the reason for higher volatility. As people become wiser and not letting their funds on exchanges, the order books become thinner.
Fat order books = High risk for exchange "hacking" / lower volatility due to inertia (=fat order book)
Thin order books = Better prepared for exchange "hacking" / bigger volatility
I have to admit I don't have a huge fear of "hacking" with BTC-E. It is always a risk and I wouldn't store life savings there or anything, but they have been one of the most reliable in that regard for a very long time aside from the temporary DDOS downtimes that happen every now and then.
Personally I don't really believe the hacking narrative half the times hence the "". Most of the time it's inside job. I mean Karpeles had like 200k coins stashed somewhere? Bitfinex had top-notch security and everything went out the window to make the impossible->possible? Mintpal got bought and then got "hacked"? Yeah right.
So, from that perspective, people should be careful.
Or just start using Bitsquare.

So.... what will be the bottom?

That is the 21 million dollar question. I've got a buy order waiting for the low $800s but I doubt it will go that low but here's hoping for another flash crash or two.
I don't think there will be another flash crash and then up again. It can be the beginning of a short- or mid-term bear market with lower lows. Bear markets happen and after the insane bullish last year it would be no surprise if we're heading down for some months now. Think about the scaling debate, there's no solution in sight yet.
But no, I don't see sub-500 prices coming again (at least not for a long time). The most probable outcome for me is a bottom at the 600-800 level, in about 2-3 months.
Just take a look at the week chart, It looks bullish to me.
