As Bitstamp battles against these attacks, it’s also worth noting that the Slovenian exchange is not listed as a money services business with FINCEN, the U.S. agency that registers money transmitters — even though it accepts US customers.

Frankly, i'm more worried about this issue highlighted above.  Where to store fiat when coins becomes cheap..?

I wouldn't called it Slovenian anymore, because they moved their head office to London where are registered as LTD.

But you are very correct about not being registered with FINCEN - I predict that this will be huge problems in the future as FBI might want to arrest CEO of Bitstamp, I am pretty sure they will find connections to money laundering.

This is an interesting option.
I'd like that to happen, but as someone who holds some millions of euros in several accounts, spread all over - what would be the incentive to buy bitcoin instead of gold, or real estate for that matter...

It's harder to smuggle gold out in the event of capital controls and damn impossible for land. If you have to pay property tax or are subject to use restrictions, you never really own land anyway.

But don't forget that rich participate in writing new laws and they will create few loop-holes. Rich own things - mostly international businesses and transfering things will never be a problem for them. Beside politics is in bed with them.

In what sense is it "preparing"?

The market is just a bunch of traders.  How is each trader "preparing", for what, and why?

By preparing I mean that we are waiting for some bad or good news. This is obviuos, because we had many inside days, that alone indicate indecision of market participants, with lower volatility. The longer we stay in this range, the bigger move we'll see. You can also see from order book, that 600, 650 and 700 are levels to watch. We are also slowly completing multi month triangle - we are at it's upper line, but there is just not enough buying pressure to overcome resistance. Triangle still has 4-5 weeks to finish, but if stay at this level for a few days, we will test descending trendline once again. Many signs...

10k bfx wall is back

They obviously do not want to sell and I am betting they are using a pretty high amount of margin to execute it. The fact that weak hands are actually selling because of it is sad.
I would disagree that they don't want to sell. They have put the wall up several times over a few days; at this point anyone that wants to buy a lot of bitcoin would have seen that wall pop up and can expect it to pop up again a few times a day, and they will be able to buy a lot instantly without any slippage. This guy is just advertising his wall, waiting for someone to buy. Putting that wall up so often would be idiotic if they don't want to sell because if the price is undervalued, someone is going to buy a few thousand instantly and that wall guy will lose a ton of money.

I don't think he's intentions are to sell, rather to manipulate others to dump. Yesterday the wall got withdrawn as soon as there was trend reversal and few orders bought some of his coins. I think he is making arbitrage between 600 and 650 level.

they say that they are in Beta, so where are they located and do we know the owners....to be honest, I was trading Litecoin exclusively on BTC-e, but I don't feel comfortable with leaving my funds there for more than a couple of hours, I get really nervous, I missed many opportunities because of that... now I am considering to move to Bitfinex for the time being until bitstamp adds Litecoin.

I only need to trade LTC/USD and vice-versa without the need to withdraw Fiat, so do I need to be verified ?

It's ok, but low liquidity compared to btc-e.

Huge banking sector bubble similar to japan in the late 80's

The whole world is in bubble and no one knows when and if things will collapse. Many well-known people (banking, hedge funds) are saying China will collapse, USA will collapse, Japan will collapse, EU will collapse, stock market will collapse, etc., but so far they are 100% wrong for many years since financial crisis and people listening to them are losing money not participating in the markets!

Some are even saying BTC has no future and is doomed to fail, but 100x gain in one year shows you how no one has a clue what's going on. I am just saying markets are irrational and things can go on like this for years and years.

My conclusion is that there are a lot of holders stuck above 500 that are willing to break even or sell at a slight loss.   Any rise above 500 is being met with strong sell resistance in the world of OTC.

Price confirms this behaviour, because any rally gets hammered hard. I guess we really need one major panic, before new ATM is possible.

you are a sheep, later I will hear you cry about how you fucked up,  a good trader doesn't buy on the way up but on the way down, this is what I call a great opportunity to sell especially if you bought on the way down.

You are wrong. Good traders use momentum in their advantade!

He is just a random guy making book about BTC and hoping to sell more copies by contradicting himself on many levels. The good thing is that he wasted time and money writing this book as BTC belivers won't buy it, other population has no interest in BTC right now and no damage will be made and if bubble starts people also don't read books that contradict their belief.

Why is it so strong ?
Is it because of the oil price going down ?

The rest of the world is in more shit than USA. Capital has found save haven in USD as the rest of the markets are in poor condition, for example EU is in deflation and soon there will be nobody willing to lend to some of the EU members (France, Spain,...) which may need to default and thus many investors find holding Euro risky. There are taxes raising everywhere in hunt for money to prolong govermental status quo and socialstic utopia in many countries. Oil prices are only indicator that we may go into another global recession in the next months and investors are expecting lower demand for energy.

What will happen when West Europe goes bankrupt ?
The economy is global but as long as there is no real crash, everything goes well and USD get stronger.

If EU goes down it will also affect USA. Strong USD is a problem for USA as it becomes less competitive and strong USD is also a problem for many countries that borrowed in the USD. It's like vicious circle and "invisible hand" will always rebalance things. I guess more pain to come in the next years as countries will deleverage it's debts or defaults. Wars are also very likely scenarios as crisis just calls for blaming others for things you did wrong (as we saw in Ukraine you only need few idiots and momentum and shit can happen).

Guys I have a question, especially for traders of other stuff (stocks, commodities, indices etc).

Which other asset has similar volatility in the same timeframe as Bitcoin? And with good volume?

I want wild price fluctuations in about the timeframes that BTC has (not so fast as forex).

Any ideas?

Help appreciated.

FX has usually daily volatility around 0.5-1% and I would say this is quite low volatility compared to other assets, there are of course strong trend moves which can change rate 10-30% in a couple of months.

I would say VIX (volatility index) and it's derivatives (VXX, XIV, TVIX...) resemble the BTC crazy moves. When stock markets are in uptrend expect around 5% daily volatility, when in crashing mode 10-30% daily volatility is normal.

Why do you think whales are any different than small fishes? Psychology behind is the same - they will start buying after new uptrend starts. Whales are not any smarter or less afraid of falling prices. People are attracted to raising prices and not to falling prices regardless if you are millionaire or not. Simple fear and greed control markets and nothing else - fundamentals are bullshit, people were buying tulips, collecting baseball cards and similar shit.

namely Bitcoin miners who, below $400, likely operate at a loss.

[    ] operate at a loss
[ X ] do not operate

if below 400 they operate at loss, then we would see a big fall in the hashrate.

But it keeps increasing

Hashrate is quite stable for some months now. This means that miners are not really adding. Miners have very different operating costs - some of them still need to pay off for equipment while others only pay for electricty and some other costs like rent.

Better sell now, else you will be panicking below 200. Btc is very bearish, just look at the candlesticks - hammers on daily, 3-day, weekly and nobody is buying. Why the hell do you think we are again at 200 and not above 300?
