With the price staying this solid over the weekend I'm tempted to buy some coins just for this coming week's a least +10% bump.

I'm mulling over the idea of SMS price alerts once I implement non-USD currencies, but maybe a native iOS and Android app would be a better idea.

I've been feeling that way for the last three days. Tons of media hype. Skyrocketing prices. Large drops and rises. I feel like $445-450 is the new $266 an the bottom is about to fall out any second now.
Uhhh, you should look at a graph. Late March was the quiet before a +150% storm (and then huge crash but whatever!).

Why do people assume that this is going to be another march/April style 800% bubble? You are forgetting that back then the time in between the last ATH of $32 was an entire 2 years of consolidation. This time it was only 6 months. Were likely to see a 2012 style increase instead.
Sorry to quote several pages back, but you should look at a graph.

This may not be the April bubble, but it is definitely not standard fare for 2012. We've gone up 300% in what, a couple weeks?

I'm making a cup of green tea.

Anyone trading should do the same. There's some psychoactive stuff in green tea leaves that tends to calm you down, make you more composed and rational. I've found it very useful for technical trading.

I remember reading that anthropologists suspect that it's the psychoactive qualities of green tea that led to the development of the Japanese tea ceremony and Zen Buddhism.

But I digress...
Japanese green teas like sencha and gyokuro are especially full of L-Theanine, the drug you're mentioning.

I'm a big fan of white tea (Chinese) from Fujian. it's been dried less, so there's even more goodies than in green tea.

Not sure about calm -- plenty of caffiene, but it certainly makes you more alive. There's a reason the British empire was built on tea imports.

Kind of. BTC hasn't been big in China for as long, so the Chinese presumably haven't read years of English speakers saying that they will sell at $1k. We blow it out of proportion to the point where I think it might be a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point. It isn't xenophobic of me to not assume that they're aware of how big a deal it is to us.

some might interpret that you're implying that climate change isn't real btw . . . .

The climate is changing, yes, as it always does. The idea that there is some serious crisis going on with man-made climate change is a total sham, however.

Regardless of climate, ocean acidification via CO2 absorption is a serious threat to many marine species... especially tasty ones.

Perhaps, and I haven't looked into that specifically but I wouldn't be surprised if that was a made-up thing as well. pH regulation should be among the easiest things for nature to handle. Much more difficult is pollutants and overfishing (that is one resource we can run out of, unlike oil). Leave that to Bitcoin. Property rights defined over oceans would end overfishing immediately.
IT IS made up. There's a lot more CO2 produced naturally than artificially. This is a very nice way to get your tax money for their pockets. You can find out more here (and verify with your scientific sources).

http://www.skepticalscience.com/human-co2-smaller-than-natural-emissions.htm

That's why I hope Bitcoin prevails. I hate those guys.

LTC is heating up as well. Don't see a reason why it wouldn't reach 10-20% of BTC value soon.

The question is: why would it? Feels kind of weird saying this (usually normal people tell bitcoin people this), but there is basically no acceptance for litecoin at the moment, it's 100% speculation.

just like bitcoin to 99% of people.
False equivalency. LTC does not even have 10% of the acceptance of BTC.

The price will drop tomorrow because there are no trading fees. The exchanges participating in bitcoin black friday announced yesterday they will not charge fees. This means that buyers money will not arrive until monday or tuesday, so buyers cannot take advantage of the no-fee trading.

This will let the sellers cash out without paying the trading fees. So the price is set to go down tomorrow, bet on it.

Wow you turn up at the end of the party, clueless as to what caused the price drop and proceed to vomit some technical analysis crap onto us. Bulls impress me more and more every day!

Why are you here?   If bitcoin is doomed, then go away, you are wasting your own and everyone else's time.   I don't ignore many, but you are a special case.   Molecular is a respected long time poster, you, not so much.

Ahh so it's immaterial what tripe someone actually says, but as long as their post count is high you will listen? That should serve you well mate. When did I say bitcoin was doomed? Short term bear, long term bull. now don't get upset because you failed to appreciate that the price of bitcoin can go down as well as up.

I have held coins since 2011, I think I know a thing or two about going down.   It is in fact good to correct/consolidate after new highs.   It just gets SO tiring listening to your constant drivel, just so you can feel like you are moving the market so you can get your cheap coins.   Also, it would serve the newbs well to listen to established bitcoiners over other newbs.   If I were trading based on your posts, or molecular's, molecular's would have made me far more money . . .

If you based your trade's on anyone's posts other than your own research then your an idiot. I'm not so naive enough as to think anything I say can sway anyone's decisions on a forum thread, that's simpleton material.

It's 'you're' not 'your' - if you want to insult someone, it helps to spell it right....

The grammar in this thread is, quite honestly, atrocious.

If Bitcoin can sustain these prices without China, I'd be very surprised.  I have a feeling it's going to be a long and nasty weekend.

Bitcoin is not "without China".

Bitcoin is without Chinese banks.

Understand?

Bitcoin is without Chinese banks and Chinese merchants.

Understand?

Ah yes, those Chinese merchants were really driving the Bitcoin economy.

Sarcasm, understand?

Nothing is driving this but speculation.  I've known that since day one.  But the future expectation of what China could bring to the table, just got obliterated.  No banks, no merchants...simply reduced to trading it online.  I'm sure this is all very bullish news though.   Roll Eyes

I didn't say it was bullish. You said you'd be surprised if this price can be sustained without China, and I pointed out that we are not without China.

Understand?

Look at them. They still think $800 is the bottom. Hahaha
I'll bet you a coin I can call the bottom more accurately than you can.

I have no idea what is going to happen, but if I had to make a prediction, I would say that because this rally was less significant than the April rally, this crash will be less significant than the April crash.

What happened to the radical price movement up/down everyone was talking about earlier in the week?

$200 is easy as fuck, but i still dont get what this has to do with the claim btc WILL go down 50%

(good that I didnt close this yet) Wink

If you are willing to bet on the low point of BTC, I can do that also.

Do you pay me 2 to 1 in USD that Bitcoin will visit $450 in either Gox/Bitstamp in 3 months?

You lose, I get $50k.
I lose, you get $25k.

I will do it at 1 to 1 odds at your date  February 13th 24:00 UTC,

Since you made the claim I think it is silly to give you odds. I will do $50,000 or $25,000.

Hack, and roll backs or other crazy stuff we need to rule out. Govt making BTC illegal or whatever and price crashes would be fine. But like errors on the charts, would not count.

This is cool?

Ah, a little bit too far from what I was thinking, and too tired to make a counterproposal. Let's check tomorrow if we still have a cockfight Wink

So despite all of your talk about how bitcoin is overbought and will go down 50%... you believe the chances of it dropping in half are less than 50%...

850 would be the top in this hypothetical double-top, yes?

more like 839 but 806 is also acceptable

doesn't have to perfectly line up with the previous top

I am all in at 800.

The top is a long way off...

well that's a ballsy move.

In the immediate short term, just looking at the 21/10 EMA crossover there was a buy signal in the last 24 hours. It could touch 400-500 again, but we're probably in some sort of rally at the moment: http://bitcoincharts.com/charts/mtgoxUSD#rg10zigHourlyztgSza1gEMAzm1g10za2gEMAzm2g21zv

good time to go all in i guess
I didn't say it was a good time to go all in. If anything, I was just providing counter-evidence to the double-top mention. No one knows what is going to go on.

Bears buying back yet? Or still waiting for that 400$

Bears allready bought back @ 380$
Didn't you have bid orders in place?  Grin

Only pigs and panic bulls (which sold on the way down) are still waiting for cheaper bitcoins.

A lot of people still waiting for cheaper bitcoins, according to a whole bunch of folks here, the move beyond 500-600$ is a "trap" "manipulation" "low volume" "see you in a week, 400$ coming" etc etc

It is very easy to believe that the price will go down to $400 if your portfolio depends on the price going down to $400.

How will you guys feel about bitcoin when 99% of it is owned by 3 banks and they sparingly distribute it among whomever they deem worthy?

How will 3 banks acquire 99% unless people are stupid enough to sell?
For 99% of BTC to change hands, even the Winklevoss twins would have to sell most of their holdings.

Stolen BTC never went into selloff, if I remember correctly.

doesn't matter, if/when this gets to mainstream news if it's true, price will plummet

edit: i think it's just FUD tbh, price went up to quick, someone probably wants cheap coins

btc-e is dropping already, wonder why thats the first exchange to drop  Roll Eyes

btc-e is not dropping. Stop spreading FUD.

The most likely bull scenario here is a somewhat sideways chart (at least, not above $1,100) until Tuesday, when we finally break the previous ATH.

(This is not a prediction)

This rally will probably eventually touch the ATH - possibly even break it - and then after a double top we'll retest the 500s again (huobi scandals or a harsher china banhammer).

You can't break the ATH and have a double top.

Why not? We can break the ATH and form a double top on 1243.

Why?

'cause we can!
That's an upward trend. Wink

The people you took on for the wager would like to be paid now.

Please do get in contact.

Thanks."

I'll keep this thread posted if he... er... lets me know that he wants to pay up.  Smiley

Right

if there was no escrow he or an official thread where he states that the bet is on, and wasn't just talk, then i'd be ok with you asking him to pay up

but as far as i know this was just talk...

Word. Though I do think that Coin Bull would have been paid if he had won the bet, which is a shame.
