Spain arrests 30 suspected of laundering money in bitcoin centers"Spanish police said on Wednesday they had arrested 30 people suspected of illegally distributing pay television content and of laundering the proceeds by investing in bitcoin "mining" centers for processing transactions in the digital currency, which use intensive computing power to generate more bitcoins.
Police said the bitcoin "mining" operations had also been fraudulently using vast amounts of electricity to keep their computing systems running."

Many wow, they seize an amount of Bitcoin equal to robbing a gas station:
"They did not say how much money had been laundered through the bitcoin mining operation but added they had for now
seized 31,320 euros ($34,903) worth of the currency as well as ca$h
, motorbikes and luxury cars and a small aircraft
."
Fiat currencies such as the USD and Yuan will now crash from them auctioning off "a small aircraft".
Why would they store their
precious bodily fluids value in rapidly depreciating, illiquid assets like btcoins? Not all criminals are crazy/stupid, you know .

Serious question: Our Bitcoin committee is trying to decide which of Bitcoin's twin greatest minds -- r0ach or JJG -- to nominate for the coveted Nobel Brain Prize in Smartitude.
Frankly, we're torn. Our complicated and pricey laboratory apparata has failed to conclusively differentiate, via rigorous application of scientific methods and procedures, the greater of the two minds, due to them both being so ginormously huge.
Our team is tempted to nominate them both, but we worry: Would forcing two sovereign individuals [who are not gay] to share this, the highest of accolades, dilute and/or cheapen the experience for them?
Thoughts?

On top of that, western businesses are bloated compared to how lean Chinese businesses do their work. "Let's open some fancy offices that cost a million bucks, hire 3-4 secretaries for eye candy paying them 100-150k, hire a PR firm another 200-400k, hire a legal firm or a bunch of lawyers for another half a million etc etc.
Paying western minimal wage is a part of "etc., etc."?

it strengthens US dollar = shit for stocks + makes exports more expensive imports cheaper. if exports are more expensive it means less foreign currency flowing in and more flowing out.
singapore is an interesting exception to the rule, being the only island city state in the world: tiny with little capacity to produce physical goods, they have to import a shit lot and cant export much so a strong currency actually suits them quiet well cos it makes imports cheap and exports expensive. its vice versa to the US and china. it makes labor more expensive in the US too, basically exporting jobs to, guess where, china, where it just got cheaper to produce goods.
edit: it doesnt so much counter the tax,, its more like a big "fuck you i can play dirty too" "best change your tone or shits guna go south for you quick"
I'm not following. Ignoring your Singapore tangent, how is devaluing the yuan "make labor more expensive in the US"?
And you do know that US minimal wage is far better than Chinese average wage, so which jobs would they be stealing that they ain't already got?

so if you wana hire 1000 people to make t-shirts, who do you employ? the ones who demand high pay, or the ones you can employ to do the same thing for a fraction of the price.
I'll employ the cheap Chinese. The ones I would have hired anyhow, only now they'll cost me less, if they still make the same in yuan.
so if im in england, i want 1,000,000,000 t-shirts, im guna hire the chinese instead of the americans.
If you're not crazy/don't want to go broke, sure. I hope you weren't planning on hiring Americans before the yuan got devalued a few points, because then you're not to be trusted with money and should consider voluntary commitment.
so my money then flows into china instead of america. and then because the dollar is strong, and the cost of producing the same t-shirt in america is higher, people will buy the t-shirts from me and import them instead of buying from a local producer in america. so 1) the jobs to produce the t-shirts have shifted to china
Yes, roughly 30 years ago.
and 2) when people in america want to buy t-shirtsm they buy the cheaper chinese version causing capital outflow instead of inflow.

If you look at the inclination of the people, it is clear that the train is heading upwards, but less so than in the first post. Quite a good analogy for bitcoin I would say, heading up, but slower than the fans expect/ would like.
The train is heading slightly downhill. The main trestle supports are pointing to the earth's center, not tilted backwards relative to the normal component of the load. The people are riding upright, not with their center of gravity outside their foundation. The people would not be positioned downhill from the load in an uphill-pointed car. The hills in the background also indicate the trestle is heading slightly downhill.

No. ETH simply has features which BTC does not. Think of BTC as a Model T, and ETH as a 911 with AC. Having air conditioning might be a pussy move for a 911, but having AC makes it no less of a car, and it'll still blow your Model T into the weeds with the AC blasting. Get it?

I'm talking about being sustainable for them! ... Meaning they will have to pump the system to keep their price for them to make ends meet!

But don't worry if big miners crash... the little guys will swoop in and mine for less yield.

If big miners can't make money with nearly free electricity and economies of scale, little guys can't make any money by buying retail gear and paying consumer electric rates.

5. You tell yourself that everything will be fine, people will start wanting to buy 1 billion of your hulas per day, because that's what you need to keep your operation profitable.

Beetcoins are fungible, the ones mined in China are no different from the ones mined in the west, you can't "buy domestic," if that's what you're thinking. And industrial power rates are a thing in the west too, aluminum smelters aren't paying residential rates, more like 4 or 5 cents per.
BTW, wonder why exchanges don't do this more often.

At least btcs are backed by energy and other mining costs.
You don't understand the meaning of the word "backed," as it applies to currency. You share this fundamental misunderstanding with many intrepid investors on these fora. Let me give you an analogy:
If I went out to a nice dinner last night, and spent $200, this does not mean that, when I make #2 this morning, my poop is
backed by $200 it cost me to produce it. My poop's not backed by anything. To nearly everyone, my poop is as worthless as it would have been if i ate a Mc.D's Happy Meal, or a bowl of rice.
"I never thought of it that way," you may be saying to yourself right about now. "Are you telling me that I shouldn't buy poo, no matter how hard someone worked to produce it?!"
"Now you're starting to understand," I'd approvingly answer.
...Alas, that's but a rose-tinted dream of mine. You'll never grasp these basic truths, ones which are obvious to most 3-yr.-olds

Money is the simplest blockchain application (Bitcoin). Logically it's protocol architecture shouldn't include the weight and unnecessary complexity of a smart contract system. You put that shit on top (lisk).

From a security perspective (think wealth storage), simplicity wins out. A house with fewer windows and doors leaves less potential security holes. Ethereum will probably never be the "internet of money", and it's yet to demonstrate the utility of it's smart contracts. I believe it will (and hodling ether), but it isn't a sure thing. Bitcoin, at least, already works as money and as a store of wealth.
So, yes. Bitcoin is fucking hip as hell. The original.

https://seebitcoin.com/2016/06/understanding-bitcoin-the-childhood-game-that-rules-the-network/Bonus:
Like a team of seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion monkeys poking at seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion typewriters, the Beetcoin network is also likely to compose all of humanity's greatest literary works.
Caveat:
The monkeys can't tell a masterpiece from a pile of doodie, so without a team of seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion IRL human readers, the effort produces nothing of value (unless consuming roughly seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion kilos of bananas & creating roughly seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion kilos of monkey poop could be said to have value).

Saying that "production costs" - whatever that would mean to generate a random number basically - reflecting in the market value of BTC is saying people are checking price tags in a supermarket by calculating how much it cost the producer to make a bottle of milk. They do not care. They will check the competing MARGINAL UTILITY of the goods satisfying their needs, they could not care - or has the ability to calculate - about production costs.
I think the point he's trying to make is if it costs $5 to produce a gallon of milk, you won't see any $2.99/gal milk at the supermarket. Which is true.
Surprisingly, bitcoin isn't milk, there's no minimum production cost. 2 netbooks,at a cost of pennies an hour, could produce the same
milk 25 BTC every ~10mins currently mined by
seven quintillion, five hundred quadrillion monkeys pricey megafarms.

Why would you buy a coin just to sell it at a lower price?
Why did BBQ coiners buy BBQ coins, just to sell them for less? WTF is wrong with them? Didn't they realize that BBQ supply is limited, and, at each block reward halvening, their precious is *MATHEMATICALLY GUARANTEED* to double in price? FFS, how stupid those BBQers were! what's the difference
Subtle

Yeah, I get what you're trying to say. Beetcoin, like MySpace, was here first, and, just like MySpace, got tossed into the dustbin of history when fancy new Ether set up shop.
You'll probably pull out some bullshit argument too, like how ETH price is up MORE THAN TEN TIMES

this year alone, and how it's up 2.5% today, while beetcoin is dropping like a rock. But the thing is, Facebook, unlike MySpace, is a scamcoin -- not a solid, honest platform like Beetcoin!

In 2008, you'd take a virtual "seat" at a 6-handed online table, with 4 complete amateurs ("fish") and maybe 1 other competent player. By 2012, you'd be lucky if you found one amateur at your table (assuming it wasn't you). The easy money exploiting others at the table was gone. The games were becoming more efficient and more transparent. The large exploits that worked so well began working dramatically less. In many cases, the outcome would be an almost hostile, and in some cases self-destructive, spatting between the competent players. This led to significant spikes in variance, as aggression between those competent players picked up, naturally, and theoretical win rates began falling off. Amateurs eventually went "bust" or learned a lesson.
But did those poker amateurs have powerful scientifical tools like Technical Analysisis? How about Eliot Brainwave Transmutaion?
Yeah, we got science, bitch! That's why recreational trading will always stay highly profitable for us

Dont know will takes how long the transaction will get confirm or will get rejected.
If you're asking us how long it will take for the transaction to be added to a block: nobody knows... It can happen 10 seconds from now, or it can take several days (or more).
It's all pure luck. A miner decides which transactions he'll put in the block he's mining. He might chose your transaction, or he might chose somebody else's... A lot of times, miners chose the transactions with the highest fee per byte, some of them do make exceptions tough. Maybe one of the pool operators takes pitty and adds your transaction out of kindness, you never know

Yeah i know it sounds very primitive. But, i am a scientist, i only look for the facts, and numbers, without social bullshit. There must be a very basic non biased reason why 99% of the bitcoin user/investor/developer community is made up of 20-45 human males.
I am not biased against "women bitcoining" -and it absolutely wouldn't matter what i think -, THEY themselves are. I mean, the blockchain does not care if you are an alien dog from the future, so there can not be any reason why women do not use/study bitcoin other
patriarchy than they do not want to. So i just made a statistically relevant and probable observation about the equation women+bitcoin= 99% likely fubar.
Look, I don't care if you're biased against women, Jews, lardos, blacks, cripples, queers, Azhuns, whatever. It's not about being PC.

Alas, i assume since bitcoin is a very high risk field, and males are in general tend to take higher risk as comfortable, that might be a good explanation why the male/female user ratio is as it is. Also, mathematics. :-D
Also, in general any new tech is first used by males disproportionally high, like, since fire?
I'm not arguing that human females are as smart as you. All I'm saying is that money has to work for them, and money that doesn't work for them is a frickin' failure, not money. Why doe this even need to be said?

Canadian university buckles and pays $20k in bitcoin to hackersThe University of Calgary in Canada has paid just over $15,000 (CAD $20,000) to restore access to its computer systems following a ransomware attack.
Ransomware typically, as its name would suggest, prevents a victim from acessing their files and other services until demands had been met. In this case, that meant paying $15,000 to restore access to emails and other files.
It’s not the first time a company or organization has caved in and paid a ransomware demand -a hospital in the US paid $17,000 in bitcoin – but you have to wonder if making it public is a smart move.
Being seen as a ‘soft target’ will surely invite further attacks and demands for payment, as has also been the case with that hospital.[...]

Opt-in RBF fixes zero-fee transactions.
This what you're talking about?
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Transaction_replacementTL;DR: the problem with beetcoin is not that the fees are high, but that you don't know if you have enough money with you to be able to get off the bus, because, unlike a bus, beetcoin doesn't ask for your fare to get on. It lets you on, but if you don't have enough change on you? Have fun riding the bus. For the rest of your life

That much is true.
I'm starting to feel as if you don't even care about the things I say anymore. Maybe
we should stop seeing each other you should just put me on ignore?

You should just go to that thread and collect your reward

Let's hope for all us of that it continues going back up.
ETH will bounce around some more, but i wouldn't expect much more then +30% it feels toppy already.
Coin that went up 1,100%

since Jan. 1
BTC on the other hand has plenty of room to grow. +100-300% in the coming year for bitcoin, wouldn't surprise me.
Coin that went up less than 50% since Jan. 1

Dynamic fees predict fare based on current demand. If demand increases in the interim from boarding to alighting, then RBF gives you the option to increase your fare. These mechanism mitigate the problem by and large.
Yeah, that dynamic thing did some bombass predicting for Miss Coin:

I like some things in life to be as simple and idiot-proof as possible, money is one of them.
I do not care to be my own proctologist, my own brain surgeon, or my own bank. I do not want to think about opting into RBF (I have no idea how to even do that, how should Miss Bit done it from her wallet? Link?) and adjusting fees for that pack of smokes I'm buying, and when I pay for a beer, I don't want to worry about fat-fingering an extra digit or including unconfirmed inputs.

If you're an idiot you'd better let your government take care of you and your money.
You wanna be your own practologist, banker and brain surgeon, you go right ahead.
Something tells me you did try your hand at self-brainsurgeoning, and it worked out ...well, let's just say you tried

Seriously tho, I don't want to be my own ditch digger, bankster or ass surgeon, for basically the same set of reasons: I'd rather pay someone else to do it, someone who's good at it.
That's the way society works, beecoin: I need my horse shod, I don't become my own blacksmith, I
go to the village blacksmith, who's a wiz at it, because gets lots of practice.
Smithy, tho, he sucks at electronics. So when he needs some weird gear built, he comes to me. And then there's a baker, who backes better bread than me, and an ass doctor, who ...does whatever it is he does, etc., etc. Society! Learn how it works.
Oh, BTW, banksters are not teh gubermint. You nutters like to bitched about that.

Most people do. And that's the point. Most people also like to personally take care of their own money.
Saying that you don't have time to take care of your money because you're too busy working to make money is extreme stupidity.
I can only tell you that you're mistaken. I like
having money, but I'm as tempted by the prospect of becoming my own bank as I am by digging through my bloody poo to lovingly suture my own rectum. Which is to say I can take it or leave it.

Freedom has a cost. That cost might be higher on the average by a day/day basis, up until that special morning moment when those choose not to be free and picked the lazy solution which costed them zero day/day so far suddenly realize, everything they had has been taken away/evaporated by those whom they relied on to "deal with them, cause i am lazy".
Think about it, slaves did not had to worry about how to get food, shelter, work. Did this comfort worth that occasional fine assr*pe/murder?
You are genuinely insane. Being your own bank is no more "freedom" than being your own psychiatrist. What's wrong with you? What freedom?
If everyone tried to be his own everything, the world would turn into a festering cesspool within weeks. Do you understand that societies above slime molds involve specialization? That there's one guy who makes bread, another who sings inspiring agitprop, & another who wears jackboots, so people next door won't shit all over us? And the people next door have their own jackbooted thugs?
What freedom are you money changer wannabees talking about?

Au contraire mon Ami! Apparently Miss Bit Coin upthread wasn't smart enough, that;s why we're having this conversation. And transactions aren't just about sending someone your coin, they're about *getting something other than a gift-wrapped brick in return.*

While i agree, that this was kinda-sorta working up until now - actually, it didn't, that is why we have billionaire banksters, corrupt governments, frauds on every level of the financial/industrial/political system -, this can not be a way of life anymore. Sob-sob, evolution bitchez!
Those who stick with their "one trick pony" skills, one company for life, are dead weight in the information age. I am talking about large scale, like small individual laziness add up and brings the system down - just look at political leaders, most of them are reaaaly stupid.
I know this massive shift won't happen, i agree on that with you. That is why we might be the new super wealthy elite, because at every technological leap made before, the masses only start using/hoarding/studying it when the "leader says so", or the cost of staying out is visibly enormous, and it is already too late for them in 10 years in the future to enjoy the early innovator phase's benefits (like buying bitcoin below 50,000$

.
It's not "kinda/sorta working," it's working *miraculously well*! The reason you see alternatives is because *you don't understand the mindboggling complexity, the insane level of interconnectedness and scope of ...stuff.* Look at some oldass tech, like Ford River Rouge Plant, 100 years ago, it's stupefying! And less than 20 years later, we had huge aluminum flying monstrosities with shit like this for motors:

And around the same time V2s and actual, fighting jets. Should I go on? Is this a "roll up your sleeves and be a lone wolf maverick" type of a deal?

Control over money is the greatest power right now on this Earth.
I do not need to be my own everything. If, i am my own bank, i can pay everyone else to do my shit, just as you said.
No, you can't. Because while you were dicking around with being your own bank, you weren't doing *your* job. You weren't *earning* money.
You can not think, that the power to transact with anyone anywhere, anytime, without zero chance to be blocked/resisted/censored by state brutes is not monetary freedom. Or to walk away with a million$ BTC in your head cross borders.
I grew up in Soviet Russia. Before you can move millions of BTC across borders, you have to *make* billions of BTC. And defend those millions of BTC from other savvy bitcoin entrepreneurs. Some of them are bigger than you, and not squeamish about bashing heads. And "across borders" is not Equestria, but bad motherfuckers who are more corrupt, and poorer, too. They'll take your head off.
I can either do it myself - none can take my money -, or give this great power to psychopats.
You yourself seem to have your fair share of sociopathy. Not uncommon for paranoid schizophrenics to think everyone around them insane, u know
you will see why bitcoin is so game changing for freedom.
Like this, for instance, is a bit worrying.

Yeah very deep thoughts. So to sum it up if you feel something is outside of your competence, don't do it. Being a surgeon, and building space rockets is outside of my and majorities competence. Eating soup, operating a vehicle, pumping my own gas, running a wallet software is not. Welcome to 20th century, times-a-changing. We'll try really hard to dull the edges and make it as idiot proof as possible so 90% of population can use it, but if you still fall in the 10% and are so incompetent that you're afraid of pocking yourself in the eye with a fork, you probably shouldn't use forks and bitch about fork manufacturers
Explaining earthling life to aliens is hard. I'll try again:
1. Yes, being my own ass surgeon is "outside of [my] competence" & "[my] comfort zone," so if my sphincter ever needs surgeoning, I'm gonna go ahead and let a licensed ass doctor do it. I'm old fashioned that way.
2. I also leave banking and casting my engine parts to other people, even though both are are [arguably] within my competence. Gearing up to do this things requires far more time/equipment than I'm willing to invest.
3. Digging ditches, hauling garbage, and stroking my girthy D to satisfactory culmination, while something I'm perfectly capable of doing, I
prefer to leave to others. Because that's what
civilized people even social insects do -- rely on each other to get shit done.
4. Which is not to say that I
don't do things which don't need to be done/could be done more efficiently by others. I play music, and I'm a shit player. I build pointlessly fast cars, and go where I don't need to go, via public roads, at unnecessarily high speeds. While pointlessly dicking around with my motor on a laptop.
But that's because *I LIKE* to do that. I don't pretend that it's smart.
I also don't corner strangers in stairwells & elevators to prosthelytize the wonders of being their own mechanic, or call them sheeple for letting corporate duchebags map their ECUs. I don't try to convince my mom that overpriced space frame abortions with engines that don't idle below 2k are the answer to mankind's gravest problems,or nag her about getting one. Because I'm like that.
@Globb0: Please don't mistake not doing *every* idiotic thing in the world, all at once, for "never go[ing] outside [my] comfort zone." I do stupid shit, but I refuse to eat shit on a bed of fresh razor blades. Or "invest" in beetcoin. Jeesh
