On a bullish note, there's an important uptrend going on as well.  Market cap is bullshit but you can see altcoins dropping harder, especially the ones which had completely unjustified rises (ETH).

Bitmain also still owes me about .40 BTC with a Pacmic contract. I wonder what coins I will actually be getting back come August 1st..

Good question. Most probably you'll end up with BUcoins.

Forgive my difficulty in keeping up with all the changes, but isn't Bitmain going to be adopting Segwit2x, thus not doing BU after August 1st?
They wouldn't be doing BU anyway.  They'd be forking off into their own chain with basically just their own hash rate, so they can have a 51% attack party where no one's invited.

Since UASF doesn't look like it'll go very far, I also doubt they'll bother with that.

I am thinking about pushing a Segwit patch to Bitcoin Cash github. Any chance it would be approved on time before 1 Aug?

You can try. I'm guessing you'll be met with an overwhelming chorus of NAKs.

Damn Bitcoin Cash Core ! They want to control everything! They are stopping real scalability for their own benefit!

Hahah.

On a more serious note: There are several other mechanisms that fix malleability. There is still a discussion to be had as to whether or not SegWit is the best approach.

Fixing malleability is important, but my predilection for Segwit goes much more far than that. It enables a whole new world of second layer and integration posibilities. Lighting Networks will be an AWESOME add... people focus on fee reduction but that's not the main point:
When I mentioned this, HostFat (who did Bitcoin Cash's ANN thread) said that they intended to add LN support with a future hard fork.

They haven't gone into details about this and I haven't seen a roadmap, but I don't think they're against it.

What has Bitcoin been doing since these events occurred? Kept skyrocketing.
You say that as if it's a good thing.  Bad events should not be resulting in rising prices.  It would be healthy for the market to react to good and bad events depending on which happen at which time and how relevant they are to BTC users, but it's not doing that.  It's just flying upwards regardless of anything that is actually happening.

There are some positive events (such as SegWit), but people on this thread are not seeing positive events or potential positive events and then buying and causing the price to rise.  They're watching the price rise and then desperately trying to justify it with positive events even though it went up by >$1000 in a week.

It is. It shows that Bitcoin has become so robust that these events have minor effects.
People use positive events which have been happening for longer than just a few weeks (such as Japanese adoption) to justify unnecessarily dramatic rises in prices.  What makes you think that people won't use those negative events to justify unnecessarily dramatic falls in prices if they happen later?  You can't be sure of what the effects are yet, because you're not talking about the same people as you were last bubble (2013).  People don't "mature" if they're new and different people each boom/bust cycle.

Wrong. It was quite heavily swinging up and down, and even reached a bottom of $18xx.
At the start of the year, $1800 would have looked like a bubble.

"Some" and SegWit can't be placed in the same sentence. You have no idea what you're talking about.
I strongly doubt that speculators know what they're dealing with either.  SegWit is great but if adoption were rising as quickly as the price is (multiplying by about 4 since the start of the year) SegWit blocks would already be full, even if most people were using it.  LN could take some of that strain later, but even then the price is hyped up.

Absolute numbers are useless, use percentages.
About 30%.  But my view is that when you're building on a price that was high to start with, absolute numbers are nice to use alongside percentages and show just how much money you're talking about.

Maybe I am asking silly questions because I'm a newbie? lol
You're not.  All reasonable arguments about this have been washed away with a mixture of confirmation bias and the backfire effect.  It's a shame, but I'll try to give you useful information.

Want to know about how segwit, segwitx2, and whatever is bcash are working. But purely technical features. Not biased arguments on either side
Any useful info? thanks
SegWit is a soft fork upgrade to the network's capacity which works by adding a new transaction format.  You can send SegWit transactions by transferring your funds to SegWit-compatible wallets and then sending from them.

The purpose of SegWit transactions is to segregate witness data from the transaction in such a way that it is not seen by old nodes but is seen by newer SegWit nodes.  This means that old nodes still see the block size as being 1MB but the new nodes see it as larger (because they see the witness data).

For more details and the benefits of this, see https://bitcoincore.org/en/2016/01/26/segwit-benefits

Bitcoin Cash was a hard fork upgrade to the network's capacity which works by increasing the base block size. In general, Bitcoin Cash supporters favour significant onchain scaling.

You can read about their opinions about this on bitcoincash.org.

Because it was a low-consensus hard fork with replay protection, you can spend coins from both chains separately, whereas SegWit was implemented on the main chain.

The New York Agreement was an agreement to have a separate hard fork which has SegWit activated and also has a base block size of 2MB.  If the agreement goes through, the hard fork will happen in November.

Guys hello!
Today is exactly 2 years since I registered at this forum ! I do not write here often, (because of my bad English) but I read very often.  During this time you've all become like family to me, and I would like to celebrate it with you.  Cheesy
Since I registered on the forum, my life has changed a lot, mainly thanks to the financial planning that I learned from you! I want to make every member of the WO`s  a small gift in the form of a chocolate bar made by my close relative from natural products.
I have not yet figured out how to send the chocolate to those who want to remain anonymous, so I ask for your help with this. Huh

No need to send chocolate just chears.
What a nice day for you, I wish such beautiful days in your life come back again and again.

IMO, it's never a good idea to keep a stop-loss on alts, especially if you're trading short-term. Most of them (of course with a few exceptions seen in the past) just jump after the stop run..
Who would have thought it would break the support like that way!

Damnit, it's BSV. Never owned one. There are only two possibilities:

1. You bought it (then you're retarded)
2. You HODLed BCH long enough to get it airdropped to you (which again means you're retarded)

Sorry but that's the sad shitcoin truth  Grin

If we go below $9,000 I’m going to buy MOAR!

I hate the price going down but when it does it’s always good to use it as a slight positive & buy if you’re able to.
It should be MOAR MORE.
A true BTC lover would always say such a thing. Waiting for 8500 I think it is the mother of buy Zone...   Cool

The price of bitcoin peaked at $32, $1,163, and $19,892 in the 3 cycles so far.  Each time the price dropped > 80% but then rebounded.  New all time highs were reached months after the first 2 halvings.  Will it happen again?
