Interesting... there's someone adding 500 coins to $126 when we go upward, but removes them if the price comes too near of $126.

Bots will be bots.

Someone is running a bot on BitStamp that buys exactly 1 BTC at the lowest ask price every minute. (If there is 1 BTC available, otherwise it buys whatever is there.)

Costs about $7700 to run that bot for an hour, let's see how much ammo it's got. Grin

That isn't a bot - that's Bitstamp creating fake trades to pump its volume numbers and feign liquidity.

Quite a claim.

Is it possible the bitcoin economy (ie actual demand) is what is pushing the price up after these massive dumps?

Another boring weekend for BTC.. there are more action at the LTC market now.

Now that's so quiet at BTC... What you guys think is happening at LTC market? Really fast growth, but I'm still not ready to sell yet...

It's simple, MtGox says they will accept Litecoin soon, the price rises 1-2 dollars. They fail to deliver, it drops 1-2 dollars.  Once it finally is on MtGox, it will do the same.

having MtGoc accepting LTC may be good, but it is not THE one thing that affects LTC prices. Litecoin prices have and can further explode without MtGox

Yes, but the recent rise is definitely due to MtGox's press release.  Same with the last few rises.  I wouldn't be surprised if Gox picks up a bunch of Litecoins over on BTC-e before they release the press.

Not at all, we're bouncing around the high 80's. It is probably going to stay stable for a while and then go up just before going back down. It will stabilize at a higher value.

So do we think confidence is building or are we about to plummet?

I think someone, probably a mainstream firm, is accumulating a large inventory of bitcoins in a methodical manner, steadily increasing the price without letting it run away, but securely holding each price breakthrough to maintain the value of their holdings.

The pattern has been consistent as the various major ask walls (88, 95, 100, 110, etc) have fallen. Buy through the ask wall, drop a good sized bid wall, let the market run with the uptrend, drop another bid wall, rinse and repeat.

plummet

definitely about to plummet

Plummet... to the moon.

This waiting game is awful. No whale bidwalls to re-assure us; no whale asks to scare us. Nothing. Its just a game of waiting for the first massive market order followed by a wall. Market buys that dont cleanly take us over 150 seem irrelevant to the market right now. So, if the price really does go up, its probably going to have a bid wall on 150, leaving anyone who sold below 150 stuck buying back at a loss if they desire.

And I'd imagine if someone decides its time to go down, we'll have a nice ask on 140, since there is no depth below that.

A 10k sell takes the price to 130.. another 10k? 119... Another? 110. No depth above 120. Its just weird it hasnt filled in at all over these past few days. Murky waters are expected following such huge price changes, but its had time to build.

Anyone have some opinions? Is this just a 125 repeat where just when market sentiment flips, "they" buy, or are "they" done?

Seems like bitcoin is gaining more utility and not just sitting on exchanges.

Hrmm I guess I never saw a need to sell more than 50 a day, but thats just me.  People with sizeable stashes aren't typically looking to fully cash out.

You want it to go down AGAIN? Just so you can buy low? Really? What is it with you people?
Stop being so greedy. You've had all the chance in the world to buy low but just like many people here you probably set your buy orders way too low because you really worried about paying 10 bucks more.
Now you missef the train and you want Bitcoin to go crash again just so you can buy your coins. Which of course wouldn't happen anyway since you once again will set your buy orders way too low.

Theres always that guy, and then theres always that guy stating that there that guy.

Where do people get this retarded idea from that "Bitcoin is dead if it falls below price x".

Oh yeah, I know: from the same jumping-to-conclusions part of the brain that tells them "we never fell below the previous ATH, so it can't happen this time either"...

Because if people lose interest in something that already lost its value, you cant make it valuable again.
Like before fancy shells were "money". You could gather some shells on the beach, and then trade it  against bread, meat etc. But suddenly people did realise  that shells  have next to no value, so the lost interest to it.

Same will happen to BTC.

Crazy to think paper in your wallet can be worth anything, don't even have to go look for it, its printed...  The world is so wacky.

135000 new bitcoin every month x  current exchange rate $ 450 = $ 60750000 every month
someone needs to pay it with real money. But who ?

There are 4,000 new accounts every day only at My Wallet

https://blockchain.info/charts/my-wallet-n-users?timespan=30days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

4,000 * 30 = 120,000 new adopters monthly ... not enough bitcoins for everyone.

This is skewed greatly by the fact that their developer API allows you to create a fresh MyWallet for each customer that comes to your site/service.  So this may just mean a lot of people are just signing up to a new service that is backed by Blockchain.info's MyWallet service but no necessarily a new adopter, let alone adding additional value to the market.

It bothers me that this recent 'no action at all' phase bothers me so much.

I really think I just shouldn't care, take a break maybe, made more than enough profit in the past months after all, and isn't this what the LT investors always hope for, stability? Yeah, that's what I should feel...

In reality of course it's driving me crazy. "Make up your mind already, market!", he said, angrily glaring at btcwisdom.

It's made up its mind Smiley

Everyone speculates about chinese traders on this thread. Are there any chinese traders here, in the thread? There's gotta be some kind of bitcoin online community for china, no? I am interested, as everyone talks of the chinese traders like they are a completely separate and mysterious entity.
There is a Chinese language sub-forum in this forum.  Surely there are many forums in China.

You can find Chinese sources by Googling "比特币" ("bitcoin"), with quotes.  Good luck with Google Translate.

EDIT: you may want to add "5月27日" (with quotes too) to get news with date "May 27" on/in them.

I find using baidu.com over google gets better results.  Also baidu translate over google.

Shake the weaklings out.

For 11 months now and still there are the same amount of weaklings left.
Could it be that "shaking out the weak hands" simply is nonsense?

The idea that we run out weak hands is nonsense!

The price has been really stable the past 3 days. lets hope it keeps going that way .
What was the cause behind the drop from 250 to 220 ? Any speculations on that ?

Someone trying to cause a panic, but all the panickers have panicked?

Am I the only asshole who got caught in a long position >$260?  I mean it's not a leveraged long and I do have a little cash left, but damn.  It only takes $900,000/day net to support this price level. Assuming 1 million bitcoin bulls, that's less than a buck/day each.

The market can remain irrational longer than you can remain solvent.

Dips being aggressively accumulated. Have a feeling the weekly wants to close under 920, so that's a hard trailing stop for anyone doing one of those greedy scalps. I highly doubt next week's lower wick will be in this week's candle much, so buy any dip and get ready to break $1000.

CBOE trades tomorrow?
CME Next week?

I guess it's time to bait trash talkers into shorting so heavily that they think they control things? Will be interesting to see where the hidden bull lies. I doubt 10k could be destroyed.

The dip here will be a memory to people who thought they could control bitcoin, the liquidation will be what gets to unimaginable numbers.
