seriously puzzled by the selling pressure, oh well more for me.

it has something to do with the auction ...obviously!  Cool

Market will not move further till this auction finish, this auction really pushing market downside so whale will buy Silkroad coin more cheaper.

Ok, i have a question.
It's clear that this small auction completely controls the market. The market is filled with fear.
Apparently people expect a rally or a dump depending on the outcome.
I have 2 simple questions:

1: What will cause the rally and what will cause the dump.
2: Why is this considered so extremely important at the moment.

I really must be missing something. Hopefully someone can fill me in

Do you think 30k is small auction. I really don't think, anyone will manipulate market with that number of Bitcoins.

ya sorry its 48,013 coin bid. so if what he is saying is the amount of btc bid on the amount for sale. 48013 / 30000 = 1.6 btc per 1 btc sold by the government. someone do the math i can't, how much of an increase by percent ?

Total coin bid only 48k, I was expecting much more, Its look some manipulation going there too that is why only 1.6 coin bid for every coin.

this year.

Nah, but most probably will be next year, this year it's really hard to move up above 1k$.

I agree it's probably next year, but still i think we'll get at least halfway this year during the peak.

We have still half year, we can reach anywhere with that time.

Let's face it, this thread is a hangout lounge / bar for general discussions, with a heavy focus on bitcoin trading.

By the way, does anybody know a place where I could short shitcoins like DOGE and other smaller alts ?

I still think we focus here only for Bitcoin Speculation/trading/discussion, not other altcoins because then this thread will become all shitcoin news thread.

I have never see such a flat day.  I bet the $ has fluctuated more

Very flat indeed ... it happens from time to time during this year ... but today's very flat indeed ...

I predict Sunday will be similar.

Mostly weekends are like that, dead flat, so it's not abnormal now action will be on monday.

doesn't anyone else see the similarities?

The important part is post-bubble. There's no reason to think that it will behave the same as in 2011.

There is no bad news this time to crush confidence. Actually, good news is still coming in just as it did on the way up. New merchants accepting every day. New exchanges and projects being worked on. Plenty of media coverage and people coming in.

There is good news flowing everyday still we are not moving that's really some worry part.

Don't know why there's still so much selling pressure.

We are not still on bullish mode, we are still sideways and consolidating that is good for future price when price will move upwards so 600 marks will be base.

Although, nothing to do until the next paycheck and throw some more fiat to the exchanges.

We are fine above 580 so doesn't matter its 590 or 630, if we need to move upwards we have to cross 650 marks with great volume without volume we will not succeed to break the resistant and will back to around 600.

I'm surprised no one is talking about the Gox creditor meeting on the 23rd as being a possible catalyst. Especially when the fate of 200,000 Bitcoins lies in the balance...

The only people that still care about Gox are the people that lost coins/fiat there.

It's not a small number, don't mistake it for nothing.
A lot of people lost their BTC to MtGox and people want it back.

But not easy to get back, that is why market not discounting gox coins.

Junk bot; this same bot has danced that ask wall to where it is now from like $680.. slowly creeping down.

You can't stop bot, these days bot is necessity for trader who do day trading.
Day trading sucks anyway and will likely put you into minus value.

Some people really earn too much with day trading, so you can't remove day trading in market movement.

Volume is recovering slowly
https://blockchain.info/en/charts/trade-volume?timespan=30days&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

we cannot say what will the volume be in next few hours ...

Volume is only 4k at stamp and that is because of that 1k dump otherwise volume around 3k that is very minimal.

Even with the BIG trades, volume has never been so slow since 2012.
But if you look at volume in dollar terms?

Bitcoin volume always refer on Bitcoins not in dollor, How many bitcoins traded because when 1 bitcoin will be 10k usd dollor volume will increase so much but we always calculate through how many bitcoins traded.

if you have a fully verified coin base account that is. SO GET SPENDING. Even if you pay USD go USD to BTC to buy... it's actually cheaper that way.
How do you send USD to Coinbase/exchange/Bitpay/whatever, and what do they send to Dell -- USD, or BTC?  If USD, how do they send it?

This appears to be one of those basic retarded questions of yours that could easily be answered by yourself, if you were to buy and use bitcoins then you would possibly realize how to use them.  Of course, the customers pay in bitcoin, and then if Dell wants to convert them to fiat after the transaction, they have that fiat conversion option.
And that is the (non)answer that I get whenever I ask that question in this forum. I had to ask the same person three times (on another thread), before he understood the question (and answered it for only one special case).

I thought that I called the question stupid and I answered it...... and you are implying that you are seeking some kind of deeper and more significant meaning?  And what would that deeper and more significant meaning be?
Yes you called the question stupid, and no you did not understand it. If "you pay USD go USD to BTC to buy", as the poster suggested, how do you send USD to Coinbase/exchange/Bitpay/whatever?

I go to Dell's website, and I choose to pay with bitcoins from my blockchain wallet, no?  People acquire bitcoins in a variety of ways and then hold them and store them in various ways, and when it comes time to purchase something they send the bitcoins to the purchase address.  Then on Dell's end, they choose whether to hold the purchase in bitcoins or to immediately cash them out as fiat (Dell is using coinbase)..

Mostly Big merchants use Coinbase because they just sell what they get sell through Bitcoins,
and it doesn't affect them Bitcoin Volatilities.

I doubt that we can make a blanket statement about what merchants are doing regarding their bitcoin purchases.  It may be true that a large number of them are immediately converting to fiat; however, they can change that at any point, in the event that they are o.k. with holding BTC.

I think when Overstock chose Coinbase, they made that choice b/c Coinbase was fairly aggressive to assure that Overstock got set up quickly - accordingly, Overstock did NOT shop around regarding which service to use.

Businesses don't like volatilities that is why they hedge their foreign currency that is not that volatile like Bitcoins.
So I am sure they will not hold Bitcoins and will sell asap they will get.

Well the range has gotten quite contracted. Often this means a powerful move is coming. But which direction is unclear.

I know powerful is coming but not clear it will upside, that is why I said we are not going to break upside, it's not clear at all.

Almost no one expected that rebound so quickly, so it's really good and enjoying price moving up,
Just market break 650 and we will in the moon then.

Well, we are falling exponentially, maybe 560 can hodl. Dont mark my words, thought

We are not falling like that,

I know we fall 580 to 560 level, but still we have support of 540, if that break we can say this.

But before that it is not like this, we touched before too 540 and recover from there very quickly,

so just watch that level and then we will see.

I think paypal is already priced in, but not the way people would expect: smart money already shorted in anticipation of this news.

What I understand, when big merchants add Bitcoin as payment, it's not good news for short term.
Because Merchants just take payment in Bitcoin and convert into fiat on same time by using coinbase.
That is why price dropping even people think these news are very big for Bitcoin community.

I think this Apple pay thing is major good news that we haven't seen hit the price yet. It's like a rumbling in the distance, the thing we didn't see coming on our list of 2014 bubble catalysts. It's always that thing that does it. Hold on tight.

May be it's possible, we can't be sure, what is in the Apple pipeline for mobile payment.
May be bitcoin or something else, it's not sure yet.

Apple pay is a further step in getting people ready for mobile payments. It takes a long time to change people's behavior. The same applies to payment behavior. Whether Apple Pay becomes a success remains to be seen but it prepares the mind of people. Once they are hooked, they will certainly be charmed by lower payment fees of the Bitcoin network.

But alas, this whole thing needs more time than our enlightened brains need to see it. It could take a generation....

That's why my view on Bitcoin, any view, only starts of 2018. HODL...

Very well said, and I am fully agree with you, what you wrote all.
People think here that when new big merchant accept the Bitcoin as payment,
price will going to moon because merchant is very big and new people start using
bitcoin, but they don't understand merchant accepting bitcoin won't effect much
for short term because merchants converting Bitcoin in fiat asap they get the bitcoin.

One of the reason so much pressure these days on Bitcoin price.

And we have a lift off!!

I really like when green field is more up than down.

I was waiting whole week for that situation - but still like always I haven't got money to buy BTC - but I truly suggest that this is very good moment to buy before the price will go up $30+.

Regards.

Hahah, you again predicted the market, even fail to read many times.
I never saw even once when you were right to predict right.

I don't think so, 3400 bitcoin wall at 475$ on bitfinex, we will stay here for now and maybe we will go down (again...)

Fully agree with you, I also don't see any reason for upwards movement.

its just stopping the rally, i wonder how long it will hold.

What rally?  I see us maybe being in the 300s in November hopefully when ETF gets announced.  And NOte I am PermaBull

There is nothing like PermaBull or PermaBear, you trade like according to situation.
If you trade with emotion then you will never earn big enough with trading.

Where is the 3k Bitcoin wall at Bitfinex?

I just go out a little and when I'm back that wall that was supposed to take days to be broken is gone Huh

Eaten.

Unfortunately, Stamp is wandering around aimlessly and hasn't tried attacking their wall.
2100 coins to 500 on Bfx.
5400 coins to 500 on Stamp.

If someone ate the 3100 wall at friday night, I wouldn't be surprised to see 500 before the next week-start

We can say that, but sometime eating wall by whales doesn't means they will try to up the market too.
May be they are on accumulating phase where they are buying cheap coin silently.

I would say we are really near the bottom, since there is not much interest for more dumping. Unless few players decide to dump 2000+ btc.
Yes... hard times  Cheesy Better take your btc to cold storage and forget about them for a month or two. Let the manipulators play with themselfs, sooner or later they will stop  Wink

I am also thinking same that, just don't watch Bitcoin market price for some weeks
because it's not easy to handle these mental pressure when you are seeing regualry
you are loosing your wealth.

Not many times I've seen poll results accepting a downfall..! almost 67% of feels that btc might trade below 400. Wait and watch if that happens.
Usually the opposite happens.
Markets often move in the opposite direction of what most market participants expect.

Is it possible for bitcoin price to trade below 400?

Why it should not be possible? 0,10$ is possible same as 100,000$ is possible. Stupid poll, or is it that I understand it wrong?

Everything is possible in manipulator markets, you always be ready to see unexpected things.

Its obvious that buyer are afraid of whale, while whale are in constant bear mode which mean they have constant influx of coin, this will not change until next halving. i guess Huh

May be it's true, or may be another side, whale want to make base around 380.
Thats why they are trying to hold 380 price mark, when they start pushing upwards so 380 will b big support.

The only reason why BTC will grow and increase in price is Anonymity. Each and everyday people are tired of showing ids and passports to banks to send money to someone or receive. With BTC its all cool and your anonymous what more is needed? BTC Can grow a lot more in developed countries with high tax rate and strict control. As people want to live free not in a cage. One of the reason Sweden loves bitcoin is this.

There are way better alt coins for that.

Altcoins Grin

Since Bitcoin has failed and soon will be dead any other coin with better features can take its place.

I don't think any other coin will take Bitcoin place if Bitcoin failed.
People will lost faith on crypto after failing Bitcoin.
