Pushed to May 7 last I heard

Do we know if gox has been processing new accounts at the same speed, slower, faster, halted?

Hope this 'CoinLab' is coming thing doesn't turn into 'BitInstant is making a bitcoin debit card'

Slush pool was under DDOS attack last 2 days and almost unable to mine. I wonder how likely it is for attackers to DDOS some major pools and meanwhile take over 50% of the bitcoin network computing power. Will be interesting to watch how bitcoin infrastructure will handle this. Bitcoin's popularity is getting some criminal minds to be very interested  Smiley

How do they profit?

Following the money, isn't the only logical party to profit from a mining pool being DDOSed a rival mining pool?

I could believe that, but a mining pool wouldn't want to do a 50% attack.

Anyone who goes for a >%50 attack to profit is either very stupid (if they do it for more Bitcoins) or they are interested in destroying confidence and value in Bitcoin and thus profiting from driving interest into some other asset.

this

EDIT:

for a meaningful post; i believe bitcoin price is consolidating here around $100 and we may see stagnation or a small rise but no more falling. We'd see a higher rise if a more stable exchange/news/expectation of how/where people will buy bitcoins was established

Everyone needs to watch this Mark Karpeles interview!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=LLjlOw3TVc8#!

Key takeaways...
1) Most of the EUR and USD raised during the selloff is still at Mt Gox
2) 5M-20M USD coming in daily, only 300K-1M leaving

That's IMHO the real cause of the recent price uptake over 130 ... Not sure if I like disclosing such information ...

Is it just me or does MT.Gox use Clarkmoody to check the market?!?!?!

Speaking of Clarkmoody, is he getting enough tips/donations and recognition, ladies and gentlemen?

I know my last prediction was wrong (rally this week) and I feel like a hurt bull, bleeding. But I really got a feeling the lower this drops the harder the rally will be. Starting next Wednesday, maybe even on the weekend (!!). Just my feeling, which is recently usually wrong.

Why do I feel this way. That drop.. it just doesn't feel right. Just the many holidays plus silkraod offline plus panic doesn't quite explain it. Even if, those are temporary effects.

Whatever: don't miss the train, don't trade on emotion. Take a walk. (shit, I should listen to this advise for once).

Yeah, Mr. SuperNode "Never 145, never 115, never 95" is right one to tell them... if you had some shame you wouldn't appear here for next month at least. But you don't, of course.

I have always prompted people to read my diary first, before daytrading (if any). Since bitcoin is going to $300k in the long run (and higher in the short), it does not make so much sense to fish the bottom unless you do it full time with an organization primed for the task (a supernode).

Just buy and hold. Buying bitcoins at any price sub-100k is not as large a mistake, as it would be to be left out of a supermove, such as the ones in the period between 8/2010-6/2011 and the one started in January 2013.

If everyone were so smart as you claim to be, they would make so much money daytrading that all bitcoins would end up in their pockets in a few short months. I am accumulating about 0.5%-1% of the new mining supply daily. I am content with it, since if the price goes down, this goes up.

The adoption of bitcoin in my observation is growing at a 10-30% weekly rate (and I actually observe things before making my fundamental predictions). There is not much room for further decreases fundamentally.

If we see the third order capitulation to $78, it does not alter any of the fundamental facts.

I saw the bubble coming and sold above $200. My miscalculation was that we would only crash to $100-$120 area and bounce back (2. fib). We did go even as low as $50 and tested it several times (4. fib).

In my thinking, 2. fibonacci should close all moves, everything of higher order is too wonderful to me to understand, and I just buy until it goes away (which it usually does).

I have 10,000 ounces of silver. Takers (pay with bitcoin only)?

think it's outrageous?

there are 21 million bitcoins to be made. if only a percent of the world population the size of USA were to get into the bitcoin economy, let's assume everyone of investing age, about 210 million people

This means each person could only have 0.1BTC if it was divided evently. Yes there are 7 more decimal places

But the real fact is how much wealth would these people have? It totals in trillions.

If one billionaire decides to put $1 billion into bitcoin thats all it takes to almost double the price ( see the market cap )

People like this are probably getting in slowly so they don't drive the price up too fast.

Yes what happens when Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt turns to facts?

That can always happen, but it can also become a self-fulfilling prophecy. When does being cautious turn into outright paranoia that feeds on itself and infects others? If you look for bad news you will always find it, if you look for positive news you will find plenty of that around as well. Most of us will be biased towards one or the other and try to think of things that reinforces our own position. In the end nobody has a definitive answer, but those who can think with a clear head and stay very flexible one way or the other usually have an edge. But they can be wrong as well. Smiley

There is only one bad news. => crack RIPEMD-160 => crack SHA-256 => crack ECDSA ... (I think/believe impossible) :-)  so until somebody is able to compute private key from your public bitcoin address, bitcoin will only rise.

The only way would be to generate billions of keys per second, and hope that one of them matches up with someone else. xD

It would still, with a billion keys per second, take a near eternity.

and what about a trillion keys per second?

Further, consider that Bitpay is 30% or so of MtGox volume.
(Heard that in the recent Ed and Ethan's BTC Podcast - http://edandethan.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Ed-and-Ethans-bitcoin-cast-16-2013-06-09.mp3)

Karpeles will massively sell when it hits LTC/USD=3$ Tongue

Who is that and how do you know?
MtGox's fat boss - I was joking about how good he is in running his business...

Ah ok.

Offtopic: can someone explain to me why my transaction is not confirming? I sent some Bitcoin somewhere and paid a 0.01 fee. This was almost 1 hour ago and still not 1 confirmation.
Why is that happening?

The hashrate is flying all over the place.

[speculation]
BFL is testing their rigs?

I am getting a shit ton of Coin orders now that the price is dropping and I would love to cash out and buy back low, but no Campbx is terrible and is down constantly.

Sorry needed to vent!

One major bearish sign is that there have been no recent bitcoin music videos made as far as I'm aware.

I've been waiting for a while for a video talking about how bitcoins are on sale (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaAWdljhD5o) or "shit its 99 bucks" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK8mJJJvaes)

i could

If only you guys just received the call I did. I would be buying if I were you.

"Adam, this is Mike from eBay and we would like it if you could call me back. As a seller of bitcoin on eBay we would love to get some feedback and input about your experience with bitcoin as we work to incorporate it into eBay"

After I called him back and we had a nice discussion he closed the phone call with "well we are just trying to wrap ourselves around it and want to try and stay ahead of the curve just like I think most larger corporations are right now, thank you for your time."

For any doubters my eBay user name is Jamsolid101 you can see that I was a very active seller of Casascius coins. I imagine contacting their users who actively sold bitcoins on ebay is the first step in their leading upto determining whether or not to actually incorporate it.

There may be some bounces coming but if eBay signs on for BTC there is one very large very green upward movement coming.

You heard it here first. 9/4/2013 eBay is moving toward utilizing and/or allowing bitcoins to freely be bought and sold and/or incorporating it as a payment method via PayPal.

"Mike" from EBay asking you about the anonymous cash of the interwebz? And you didn't ask him his last name and position in the company?

Sounds good btw

Michael Carson Senior Manager, Global Policy and Regulatory Management at eBay.
If John K. is willing I will provide him with Mikes phone number and he can call to verify they are moving in that direction. I obviously will not post his direct line here. I'm sure we can all agree that John K. Is trustworthy enough to verify what I am saying is legit.

do it
