Here is the comparison of Google Trends for the term "buy bitcoin" and Mt.Gox price in the period of the last 90 days.
These two graphs are following the same pattern.
Can we say Google Trends is a good measure of how many NEW interested buyers are coming to BTC market?
I don't say that this is a good prediction tool, but on the other hand, it's a good additional tool for making decisions, because it puts more realism by removing big fish speculators noise from the graph.
You do realize that the google trends 'pattern' is a lagging indicator at best, right?

Either profit-taking - which is the case for buyers after April 12, or stop loss - which is the case for buyers above current prices. In the first case, the motive is to realize a gain in dollars. In the second case the motive is to prevent further losses. I do not impute a manipulation motive where greed and fear are sufficient.

also - if you could make a navigable version of this, moving forward and back through time and rotating the view as i like, i, and i suspect others, would be willing to pay for it. i can see it now, moving across my screen in time, freely rotating, while next to it the more traditional charting software (i've got sierra chart running already.)
Hey, I fixed UTC times and added a few world times. Vertical axis will be up next.
Navigable version would not be especially difficult but I'm not sure which platform to use. Java would make it browser viewable (though not on this site) but Java in the browser is not so recommended anymore.
I wouldn't worry about taking up space with charts as that is what this thread is about contrary to what actually happens in here. Glances at adam..............

OTOH, I also think that Bitcoin will be superseded, eventually, and possibly even by a GOV-launched coin (best way to beat BTC is to make it irrelevant), unless we reach critical mass within a short period of time (less than 10 years from introduction).
I see this Govt. backed coin oft repeated and I still have the same question. Who is going to mine this govt. coin? If they are going to be in control they would probably release it as they see fit anyway and based on that assumption why would they even need make a govt. coin when they already have USD which is basically already doing this? I don't think you can beat Bitcoin with a new form of the same old system.

Well, a lot of us saw a bounce there (key tech support and also was very oversold) but then some HUGE buyers came in and decided to take it higher. Still not a whole lot of bids piling up so I don't think they want to dump yet...
I get the bounce of of the 60s level, that made sense aka 'cheap coins'. The stiff rise afterwards is the confusing part. Traders on cialis?
Anyway now that it appears we are consolidating a bit what is the consensus on where we go from here? Not trading just learning.

You can make 2-5% here and there if you know what you are doing. I've mined 175+ BTC since 2011, but I've only made a few bucks day trading them.
I am not much of a trader, I just worry about the smack down now that another big guy has a f-ton of coin. It would be so much easier if I knew what they were thinking......

at the risk of getting slaughtered here, does no one feel the price is being propped up? don't get me wrong i've been well wrong since July consistently but I dont see unabashed demand for bitcoins, i see huge buys at 4 AM UK time when the US is starting to go to bed and massive bid walls appearing as has been the case it seems from 75 onwards.
I am just curious as to how far this will go, clearly there is little trading activity at these new prices and those walls propping up the price if they dissapeared we would find ourselves at 120 again in no time flat.
Just curious if I'm reading this wrong and this is actually huge demand / paradigm shift. To me it seems like a giant bet on which way the whales will go next.
Right now the market is in control by the few. I do not believe this is a paradigm shift as nothing has happened to warrant it. People may think that they can play in the whales wake (and they may be successful) but ultimately the will of the few will dictate where we go in the short term.

I don't think the idea of whales buying to get money off of Mt. Gox is really what is going on. This is very structured, with protective walls keeping the price elevated for more pre-determined buys. That does not sound like someone who is looking to buy lots of BTC and pull out. You also do not see decreasing prices anywhere else for these coins. This is something else entirely. What I am not sure but someone knows something.

I don't really see it as wishful thinking as the only thing that has been as spectacular as the price rises has been the following crashes, right now that is bitcoin's world. I also seem to remember back in April people were saying the Chinese were snapping up bitcoin relentlessly and we know how that turned out.
I still haven't heard of any real news like the technical limitations of the protocol being solved yet so where this no news rally comes from is still a mystery. I am sure what people are doing and not saying is preparing for the next swing down. Its all roses til its all shit.

Look at Twitter for comparison, its just a micro-blogging site/social media company and it is worth $30billion as of yesterday. I do not believe it is anywhere near BTC in terms of being globally useful and a disruptive tech for the future but it is worth 10x more currently. I think BTC has more headroom, it just needs more users.
