how many coins have been dumped at bfx?
Around 14,300 coins were dumped on bitfinex.

If that many coins were bought, price would be 300+ .

Ask side on Finex has really thinned out in the last few days. Wouldn't take much to send the price up $20 to $30. Could be an interesting week.

I am not so sure. We seem to have a balanced market at this moment.

Na bitfinex is much smaller. Currently the order book is nearly the same size as bitstamp. Normally bitfinex has much more liquidity but the walls are gone...

Damn I can't survive in a sideways market.

Where did all the traders go? Sad

It's pretty rough out there. Lots of chop, lots of accumulation, lots of leverage on both sides. Poop and scoops left and right. Maybe try trading on a higher timeframe. Also don't get sucked into quick moves either way, there's usually a better entry point if you wait.

That actually makes a lot of sense given that it was recent news
Nice find didn't even know that occurred but it looks like the markets reacted instantly to it.

French President Francois Hollande has said "Europe has won" as a debt deal was struck with Greece.

He said that to have lost Greece as a member would have been to lose "the heart of our civilisation" and called on the Greek parliament to convene within hours to adopt the new package of austerity measures.

Greek banks are expected to remain closed for a few more days while details of the package are finalised.

I guess our dreams of a whole country potentially mass adopting BTC in the near future due to a crisis have been shelved...
What is the actual current value of BTC without the greece crisis? it will probably go down? guesses as to price? Ill set some buys slightly below to catch the knife. Dont know what number though :s

Is it still time to hire some strippers (of both sexes, of course) for that kumbaya session devs are having in Canada?

Nerd egos are stubborn things, might be a good idea to soften up the mood. Make 'em mellow.

Still time? The Backpage-situation graduated all the exotic dancers in Bitcoin 101. International payments to Canada to these entrepeneurs only take seconds / minutes (depending on of much they trust zero confirmations).

And they start saturday! Plenty of time! Let's feed those bras with digital cash!  Cheesy

Hopefully, on monday you all will understand that scaling is not a big problem. Because all miners/nodes/pools/whatever do NOT need to confirm every bleeping transaction. The computer work can be easily shared. The big work isn't processing transactions. It's mining.  Wink

I suspect backpagers buy the majority of my coins on bitquick.co. it's nice because I can arbitrage the spread and buy back immediately at a lower rate on an exchange, but of course I'm really just selling my risk of getting my bank account seized in the event that some bureaucrat somewhere decides it's money laundering and retroactively applies the decision to me. So I have to constantly drain the account to minimize the risk. I also have to buy back in immediately to minimize the exchange rate risk because the most buyers come in during an uptrend.  A five dollar bump in three hours can wipe out any profit.

buying gas cards on purse.io is similarly problematic. I get a ~20% discount on the card, but I have to exchange the gamestop card for a shell card at a brick-and-mortar store which takes time and money, THEN I can only buy fuel at Shell stations which typically overcharge ~5% for fuel.

Once I have enough profit to cover living expenses, I crank up the premium I ask for on bitquick and crank up the discount I demand on purse.io.  If nobody bites, it's no big deal. If they do, that's less work for me in the future.

Arbitraging is the only way I know to make profits without burning through my stack, except of course lending out coins on bfx but the vig is still pretty low. For bigger profits that that, one must OBSERVE THE WALL and get lucky.

Chill, BJ! Life is fun! "Sell" your coins to them at a hotel room!

To me, that would be like walking past apple trees to buy apples at the store. Plenty of slutty girls out there give it up for a drink or two.  Here's the trick:
1. Be around 'em
2. Ignore them
3. Look like you're having more fun than them.

Hell, sometimes they buy ME drinks.

Ha ha, you are absolutly right, BJ. You just responded to Fatman and me joking as you had an accountant up your ass  Grin

Funny whether other exchanges will follow, or we end up stuck in the mid-$230s... then over the weekend, isnt there more likely fuel for dumping rather than pumping?  Then we will be back to $227-ish?
If you look at the volume on a larger scale it actually looks like massive volumes of BTC were purchased on Bitstamp. still theres no telling if its real or fake.

If its real then some massive companies are accumulating tens of thousands of coins (the volume on bitstamp would actually be unbelievable in this case and bitfinex would no longer be the largest exchange).
If its fake, then who is paying the trading fees and why? or is bitstamp themselves faking the volume like the chinese exchanges always do?

Partly. There was a drop in volume at Bitfinex, and an increase at Stamp, the last time 'finex's trading engine displayed jitters (e.g. problems closing positions, problems withdrawing). However, the short (BTC) rate isn't actually that cheap - check out the rate over the long term, it tends to decline to 0.0055% (daily) - right now the FRR is 0.015%, and actual rates (the rates people actually lend/borrow at) are a bit below 0.01%. I've never looked at USD lending/borrowing on 'finex, so can't comment on that side on things.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but why do some bears consider that last SR auction, good news for them?Aren't those auction participants buying at market price or slightly above it? Why would they dump those coins on exchanges instead of waiting for a significant increase in price?

The mere announcement of an auction often produced a dump even if the price pumped after the auction. We never found out what any winner paid, and I think it depended on sentiment at the time of particular auctions. I guess the first auction winner paid $500 - $600 market price to win all the coins. Although there was a good pump after the first auction the winner says he's still holding them. However, I guess the second auction winners paid less than the market price judging by the post auction dump. The sentiment was bearish at the time of the second auction.
If I were a troll whale, I'd pump the shit out of BTC on the 4th of November so that nobody gets to have cheap coins the next day at the auction.

Ye that would be interesting Cheesy

Whats up with those sneaky few $ dollar rise these days?

$246.-  Shocked

I think this is a trap.
Not enough supply to keep up with adoption. Not necessarily a quick rise but the price needs to go up to convince some people to sell their stashes.

90 minutes to go now, right?

This is the most boring reaction to a sorta major event yet, I bet we won't even have a dump...
Well there wasnt exactly a pump to begin with. Also aside from the news the technical chart people were saying the price was going to rise about now anyway.

so if price drops people will just be selling cheap coins into the hands of new institutional investors.

Probably better that way anyway. Those guys dont freak out every $5 up or down.  will reduce the amount of trolls.

recent news from an experienced trader i follow

...."observing an increased volume activity among all the biggest bitcoin exchanges, this let me think that bitcoin is probably accumulating to later break the trading range and move above $250."....
https://btctrading.wordpress.com/2015/10/06/long-term-update-again-on-volatility/

hope it helps anyone

Looks like they're not seeing the mystery candles for 10-80k coins happening in china with clockwork regularity, nor the repeating orders on bitstamp that barely move the price, nor the complete dearth of action in the intervening periods.

To use raw volume numbers reported by the unregulated exchanges as the sole basis for a trade sounds to be something other than "experienced".

For the last two nights I watched about 6k coins quickly thrown into a 25 Bitcoin wall at the quietest time possible on Bitstamp. The price barely moved by a dollar. Apart from that the volume was almost none-existent. It's funny how it happened when most people were sleeping. Exchanges faking volume makes me so angry.  Angry

I posted and made threads about this activity occurring on bitstamp but my threads were quickly shutdown or moved to other parts of the forum where they will not be seen by most people.

Very sad that censorship is occurring in such cases. Will be interesting to see what happens if gemini takes a large market share from the scam exchanges that engage in fraudulent and suspicious behavior.

seem to recall, several years ago, an announcement by some exchange that they were implementing "shadow" book orders, that are invisible to most ordinary clients.  Perhaps they just started showing shadow-book trades on the ordinary ticker, to boost their public volume numbers...
That seems to be what's happening. But why would they want a lot of off book transactions? Don't they make money based on a percentage of the order cost? Why would they not want the price to rise as much as possible?

OKCoin and Huobi do not charge fees for trading, only for deposit and/or withdrawal, and interest on leveraged trading. As I recall, the shadow book was meant to cater for clients who wanted to trade on the exchange, but did not want their large orders to affect the price against them. (I may have misunderstood, and I don't know whether that makes sense.)

It's hard to see responses between all these ChartBuddys.

Thanks, I think they would be better for all if we could actually see the effects of the trades that are happening.

Right, so we are supposed to belive that while BFX volume has continued at an a consistent mostly anaemic pace for the last 2 months, OKC and Huobi have a bunch of 50k BTC orders that they suddenly decided to announce in their volume figures ...OK .... <sips Kool Aid> .... perfectly reasonable explanation.
Oh wait ...no announcement from an exchange that is being accused of faking numbers that they have a valid reason for suddenly higher numbers. OK ... <sips more> that makes perfect sense

 Roll Eyes

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck ... most likely explanation is 'it's definitely not a duck'   Grin

it's clear enough by now that these exchanges are bucket shop status, especially BitFinex

I dont know about the bidwalls on bitfinex (especially since people can use 3x leverage to create fake falls if they desire),
However after much observation I dont think bitfinex is faking their trade volume. They actually seems legit and the order book actually matches the orders that occur.

Bitstamp is the way.

Things on stamp can change quick... It is a liquidity provider for many other companies.

They are actually no longer a liquidity provider and have resorted to wash trade bots in order to make it seem like their exchange has volume and is still relevant.

I dont think they ever recovered since their hack when most traders left their platform and moved elsewhere.

If you can't see the cause and time when stamp, currently undergoing wash trades or not aside, recovered a substantial number of their previously lost clients, you're at least as clueless yourself.

Their exchange used to have massive large volume trades on a constant basis. It seems that they only started using wash trade bots post hack, once they realized they no longer have enough customers to create such large volumes and therefore they have resorted to artificial volume trading bots.

You are free to believe what you would like to but consumers should be made aware of this so they can make informed decisions before risking their money.

Looks like some people were waiting for that wall to get swallowed to subsequently dump hard on the market. Weird. Couple dollars dropped.
Or the buyer of the wall wants more and dumped a few hundred out of the 2k acquired onto the market in hopes more people put walls up. $310 is actually quite cheap.

DO NOT GO FOMO IF THE PRICE RISES BY $5-20 AND THINK YOU WILL SEE $500 TODAY OR THAT YOU WILL MISS THE TRAIN. CHINA HAS STOPPED PUMPING SO BEFORE YOU PLACE YOUR BETS/LEVERAGE WAIT FOR THE MARKET TO SETTLE... YOU WILL NOT MISS THE TRAIN, AND THE SMALL RISES ARE CALLED BULL-TRAPS:

DEFINITION of 'Bull Trap' A false signal indicating that a declining trend in a stock or index has reversed and is heading upwards when, in fact, the security will continue to decline.
