It's amazing the increased liquidity on gox over the past month. During the popping bubble, it was what ~20k selling pressure that brought it down? Now 20k barely moves ~10%.

Ugh, I was sort of liking the stability.

Gox needed some more income. Lag is down, looks like in the end only a few point hit. Not bad. Of course with my day trading still ended up down.

I keep on wondering whether all these buys are due to bottom-catchers fishing cheap coins or due to people scared by DHS news converting their fiat to coins and moving them out of Gox in a hurry...

Good insight. Probably bottom feeders. Or we would have seen a huge upswing.

Relatively speaking, were much further along. Then we were heading up from $10-$30 on a long climb. Crossing 100 was a big milestone also.

After 267, what's the next milestone in your book? $500? $1000? I feel like we are very far from maintaining those numbers.

Mmmm well... BTCChina down, Gox with a 20 minutes lag when started to crash... Not really holding up very well.. I wonder they are being attacked once again... Definitely, it is really odd to randomly see Incapsula page when trying to access BTCChina..

Hmm, btcchina has been up for me. Gox has had < 1 min lag since I've been watching. May have missed the 20 min lag tho.

You missed it. He bought it all up there was a huge buy to .9%. then he switched it over to the selling side - probably hoping people would buy on margin on the dip. it lasted about ~5 mins before everything filled up again (aka he cancelled all the swap and it auto-renewed).

yeah I can't figure out this whales motivation. Is he playing the swap game? preventing people from borrowing on margin to keep pushing this down?

explanation by molecular a few posts back makes the most sense to me. How else to explain that the USD swap offers dried up all of a sudden?

How much was taken off the table? Could the offers simply have been snatched up by speculators in a panic not to miss the train?
Right now, the swap offers are close to being ALL GONE. If that was the result of panic buying, the price would be going up by a huge amount, not down.

exactly.

500 BTC MARKET SELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Kiss Tongue Smiley
Interstingly this caused only a small buzz on Huobi, which is otherwise dormant (03:50 am there).  The price did not change across that blip.  An arbitrage robot, I presume.

[Fact]It could be chinese coins that are getting sold on Stamp. Chinese market is probably 90% fake trades and fake bid depth/phantom orders, and the only reason it still exists is to prevent the western ones from crashing and holding the price high as long as it takes for the chinese to cash out. [/Fact]

why would Chinese coins be sold on Stamp, rather than on Chinese exchanges, or Bitfinex? it does seem like the selling is concentrated at stamp -- Huobi and Bitfinex are staying well above it.

I have no idea about Finex  . I will ask them Chinese later Cheesy. Bid depth on Huobi is probably not real, so there´s no way to cash out there. Nearly all bank deposit and withdraw possibilities have been banned weeks ago.
If he would cash out on Finex, he would have to risk triggerin (26 million $) stop loss orders one after another which would lead to lower prices very quick, so i guess Stamp would be the safest way.

that's partly what bothers me about Bitfinex, and the fact that they now don't seem to route orders through Bitstamp. they don't have nearly enough order book liquidity to sustain the massive amount of margin lent out. (and much of the book will vanish, as they are margin orders propping the market, not orders meant to be filled -- if you watch Bitfinex, there is no denying this)

Can you expand on this a bit? I'm loaning out swap...

I don´t want to worry the bulls, but i can clearly see us going to 650-700$ by Monday. I´m all in and leveraged long since 560$.  Smiley

Is it really profitable to hold leveraged positions like that when the market is moving so slowly, with the ridiculous interest rates on bitfinex?  I would have sold the leveraged portion of the position at $610 and then re-taken it whenever a breakout is confirmed. How is that interest treating you?

That's why I love offering leverage on finex. I sold a few Gs on finex and have been loaning out -my strategy consistently makes 2-3%/week on finex over the past few months. It's a great hedge against a sell off and unless btc triples in a year I am ahead!

(of course I still have plenty of BTC, so I'm hoping for up)

We've just broken 600$ on huobi and getting soe volume also!

Yeah, watch how Huobi tries to go up but Stamp refuses to budge.

My theories:

1.  Huobi volume really is fake, and Stamp knows it.  Thus refuses to follow such a small percentage of the market in the up direction.
2.  Stamp is deliberately holding down the market, fake sell walls, etc.  Probably on purpose until the SR coins are sold.

My money is more on #2, because Stamp seems to have no problem following Huobi in the down direction.
(Although I'm still not convinced Huobi's volume is 100% accurate)

Let's hope 2 is right! Ready for liftoff.

I'm just wondering whether or not any of this will come to pass with the hundreds of thousands of bitcoins in the hands of complete crooks and/or incompetent fat-head boobs like Karpeles.  Keeping my fingers crossed but I have a sinking feeling that all of this human greed and incompetence is going to slow the 6K mark down quite a bit.  Perhaps by the end of 2015 it might hit $6k.  (hoping for your scenario though)

I'll be happy if btc hits $6k this decade to be honest. For those of us who bought in early that will be nearly a 1000 fold increase.

What did Carl Sagon say about insanity? "Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."

Of course BTC isn't done, it's gonna blow, but it's gonna do it in it's own time. I suggest, as always, that you hodl.

There's 3.5 month left. We can go to the moon and come back again in that time Wink

They've already displayed their move. Big walls on bitfenix and huobi in the $300 to $400 range piled up as we dropped. So far they aren't totally out of ammo, But the walls are beginning to fail.

Panic will likely happen at $300, whenever it comes, but it will be relatively unresisted compared to now.
what makes you think that they are out of ammo? possible "they" ain't showing everything "theeeey" got. no need to show your full force when a fraction of it is enough to cause a desired movement

I edited that post to clarify a bit. Basically, the megawall on $300 was being upkept for awhile, But not anymore. Bulls are exhausted

I mean most people who sold are looking to get back in. Once it looks like we have a bottom we will rise hard again. This has alwasy been the cycle.

Again i don't get all the panic and stress.
This is what you traders wanted. Month after month you dumped on every price rise to make your 50 bucks profit...

Many 5 to 20-dollar profits, day after day, multiplied by number of bitcoin.
It's a living Undecided

My guess is that less than 5% of the traders make decent profit.

I don't think that's contested.

But if we talk about BTC lost vs BTC gained, we get closer to 50% (minus fees, vanishing/failing exchanges, etc., etc.)

I'm day trading this currently. First time in a while. Up ~10% (in total btc) on the day of my trading funds.

Freaking Cabtor Fitgerald just can't stop messing with cryptos.

Now they want to short the BTC market.

Buggers.

Quote
One factor driving the euphoria is the imminent introduction of futures trading on the Chicago exchanges, with the CFTC giving its blessing Friday for the CME, CBOE and Cantor Fitzgerald to start listing bitcoin derivatives on Dec. 18.

Futures could slow bitcoin's ascent into the stratosphere, since professional investors will now have a way to short the market.

I hope they get professionally rekt.

For every future "short" that is sold the market maker MUST buy BTC in order to hedge. There is NO ASK market in the beginning. To sell short, someone has to BUY to sell to you.

This means futures are initially bullish.

You can sell naked calls without the underlying asset with enough collateral / capital.
