I know what you're saying. People need to really think outside of the box. Don't listen to the media. What does your gut tell you about Bitcoin?..I have become successful in many areas of my life through spiritual guidance and mediation. It's not a bloodbath. The price is being pushed down on purpose by a someone or a group of people. They are making It more affordable for everyday people to hop on board. With the Russian ruble collapse and the world on the brink of another war. There is no better time for Bitcoin. Bitcoin is here for a reason. There are much larger forces at work here. We are all apart of the forum because we were guided here by our destiny. For some reason we are more aware of things than everyday people. So in turn I believe we will be very wealthy in the coming years. There are only a handfull of people who will get rich off of Bitcoin. But that wealth will help re stimulate growth into a stale united states economy and help propell us into a new Era much like the Internet did. Most people won't buy into bitcoin until it's too late to get rich. Because they are still stuck in the Matrix to some extent. Stay calm my friends and meditate.

The next 24 hours will determine the future of crypto currency for the next decade.
Real talk bro. Someone with there head working thank god
Is that sarcasm or u really believe in God?

Doesn't matter what I believe or don't believe. My point was that these are very critical times indeed. We are very lucky to be apart of this. I really do believe Bitcoin is headed somewhere great. Some see it. Some dont. Some will soon. You'll see...just ..wait.
Was j/k I'm a hodler myself, I have finger on the trigger (sell button) thou

Interesting times indeed. However I cant really see how this here, today, will decide next 10yrs..

Soooo Vault of Satoshi is closing now?
wow

Our founders and team of developers began work on a new, non-cryptocurrency project about 6 months ago, which has since become quite successful. We are forced to make a choice on where to expend our efforts, as we simply do not have time to continue operating both businesses. We feel splitting our focus would be a disservice to the customers of Vault, so although our competitors may lack some of the features, currencies, and innovations that Vault brought to the Canadian market, they will serve you well for your basic exchange needs.
Much trust , such crypto future , amazing!

with 19 millions of longs and btc price @ 270 I have my doubts about getting far.
310~320 $ is my guess.
There are 5 million of Bitcoin in some unknown place that can be dumped at any moment.
I think it will worry the shorters for some time and stop the price from growing for some time
How exactly are they going to dump them? The address is marked as hacked Bitstamp coins. The second someone tries to move them into fiat they are going to get nailed.
mixers , change small amounts of it to altcoins, localbitcoins , shady deals (enough people out there that would pay 230 for
BTC no matter where they are from
btw , that mark is on blockchain.info website only.

Someone has stolen some bitcoins from someone else!
This makes bitcoins worth less how exactly?
You know, Bitcoin. The sound money store of value that eliminates third-party risks?
1. Loses three quarters of its value.
2. The part that's left gets pwnt by third party

1. 1 BTC still worth 1 BTC.
2. Bitcoins transffered to an exchange are not yours.
1 usd is still worth 1 usd
...wow such knowledge

Well, it only makes sense under one light, I cannot believe even disturbed mental patients would spend this much time and effort, all
I know is that the forum should take control, filter newbie troll accounts etc. There is a market out there to replace this thread with one that is actually readable. Personally I am going to replace this thread with weekly attendance at btc meet-up, like to see one of these trolls turn up there and start behaving like twats to my face,
they would receive my boot in their bollox tbh Much freedom of speech , no restriction such bitcoin community
End much government control , such same , amazing violence.

Freedom of speech is fine, act like a crazy intrusive lunatic, taking the absolute piss, and basically do not expect anything but a reasoned boot in the bollox... I suggest you go down to the local pub and run around shouting bullshit in people's faces and see where it gets you... But no, it's more you guys style to twat around hiding behind a keyboard like frightened cowards. Absolute numpties.
Much dislike for anonymity you have little bitcoindawan...such shame to see you using so much violence.
But wait , speaking about how you would do that and that to any troll in real life, that much remind me of an amazing keyboard warrior. Falllling in the same pattern you are , the trolling in strong in you.

From a value-oriented investing perspective (best represented by Warren Buffett), the value of one bitcoin is zero. Who is being more rational here, the bull or the bear?
now that is just ignorance at an appalling level. w.b. would smack you down.
I said that bitcoin is a mirage, and yet you keep falling for it. A fool and his money...
It's not only Bitcoin having problems this Christmas, so are banks and credit cards. Morgan Stanley said an employee stole sensitive data on 350,000 clients; Chick-fil-A confirmed an investigation into a credit card breach.
http://www.networkworld.com/article/2864856/microsoft-subnet/beginning-2015-with-a-bang-of-3-breaches-bitstamp-morgan-stanley-chick-fil-a.htmlMorgan Stanley fired an employee who stole the account names, numbers and transaction data on 350,000 clients; the insider crook’s plan was allegedly to sell customers’ data.
The breach was discovered and reported to authorities on Dec. 27, after Morgan Stanley discovered sensitive data for over 900 clients on the Internet.
Chick-fil-A -- which operates restaurants in 1,850 locations over 41 states and D.C. -- has confirmed an investigation into a credit card breach. In a public statement, Chick-fil-A said it discovered "unusual activity" on December 19th after being notified of “limited suspicious payment card activity appearing to originate from payment cards used at a few of our restaurants.”
Has Morgan Stanley been closed for two days after this breach? =))))))

Can someone launch a speculative cypher of how much money has bitstamp done in his history and in a standard month?
Jorge?
Um, eyeballing the charts, it seems that they had ~90 kBTC/week of trade volume since Nov/2013; about 60 weeks. Guessing an average price of 600 $/BTC, that would be 3.2 billion $ of total trades in that period. If they charge 1% trading fees (guessing; what is the right number?), that would be 32 million $ of revenue in that period, or almost 30 million $/year.
That explains why they got the 10 M $ investment. (It does not explain why they would
need such investment.)
But their revenue is falling, now about 60 kBTC/week at less than 300 $/BTC. That is ~80 M$/month of trade volume, 800'000 $/month of revenue from 1% fees
However, we do not know whether they charge the same fee from all customers. If their moms trade at Bitstamp, maybe they are exempt from fees.

Re: BITSTAMP WAS NOT HACKED!!!
It wasn't even hacked. They are doing this to test Bitcoin one last time. This is a mark in history people. Mark my words. The price won't dip below 255. After bit stamp opens the price will remain in the 270s and rise steady from there.

funny thing forums like this or discussions boards about hyps are just strengthening my decision not to gamble with real money ( i still bet on horse races but with a pen in a notebook (i got 4 out of 6 at catterick today)... should I start again with real money ?

Oil's going to crash at least another 50%, so why not BTC? Fuck it, I'm buying all the way down. I'll be so broke when it hits $10 that I'll have to sell it all

Oil prices going down are good for 90% of the people on this planet and bad for 10%.
Bitcoin prices going down are good for 0.0001% , bad for 0.005 % and irrelevant for the 99.9%

not sure why it is bad in general, but its probaly one of the reasons for great votality.
leverage + weak liquidity = high votality

Every person from our country lent 500€ to Greece. I would gladly transform this for few weeks on Corfu.
A beer for 100 drachmas and gyros for not much more - that was good times. Yamas!
Actually, it was your
banks (including perhaps your central bank) lent to Greek
banks (including presumably the Greek central bank) a mountain of euros. Where that money went, it is not clear;
but anyway the Greek government, that had been elected by the banks, decided that each Greek citizen had to fork 500 euros to pay your banks. Which was the bankers' aim all along: take more wealth from the general public.
Trouble is, the Greek citizens were never asked whether they agreed to any step of that plan, not even told clearly what the plan was.
I missed that election .....when did it happen?
And:
If they were able (the banks) to elect a government why weren't they able to do the same two days ago?
http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424052970203370604577263863362854348the 1.8% blinds of this island are also puppets of the foreign banks , right?

So tell me how the debt is in the name of the Greek goverment? With what money did they pay the state expenses?
I'm not sure if you're serious or trolling here. Which part is it that you
DON'T understand that the
NON elected Greek Government of Mr. Papadimos in 2011 signed the loan? Greece should have gone bankrupt by then.
THEY DIDN'T LET US! If we did, we'd have our own coin back and we'd be able to put our debt into control easier than this internal horizontal cut-off of salaries and business shut downs. More here:
[...]
A long story short, EU is ruled by people who are bought from big financial organizations & corporations. They are ruling the world and they don't care if I have to feed my kid or if I don't have a job and I'm searching the garbage to get something to eat. They forced the other countries people to lend us money in order to keep up with a financial "success story" who was never meant to be one in the first place.
The reason behind this is far more complex if you want to speak the truth. Greece is found to be the 3rd country in the world in hydrocarbons. Crete, Cyprus, Corfu, wherever they searched they found enormous reserves. Why would they want to "save" us to begin with? I personally don't belong to the Left. Never was. I do believe though that at this phase, it's our only hope and I really wish they're for real. EU's financial terrorism must come to an end.
It's easy if you're outside of the problem to post thoughts and judge about other people's lives. It's not the same if you're part of the problem yourself.
I don't think he's trolling. Greece fucked up long before 2011. You cooked the books to make it look like the budget deficit was far smaller than it was for over a decade. Trying to take responsibility for greek debt is not the worst crime committed by greek politicians. But the numbers just don't add up and people have to get on with their lives.
Guilty as charged. With one correction:
Our corrupt politicians did it. One of them (Tsohatzopoulos) is in jail as we speak. This chap could have lead PASOK instead of Papandreou for JUST ONE VOTE! My wish is that others will follow too. There are far too many from both big parties involved. I'm not dreaming though. I just wish.
So , your corrupt politicians did it now , they are to blame...

Greece is not just a country that is determined by its borders. It's spirit is everywhere. You're a bit Greek yourself since a part of what you studied was created here. A part of your language is Greek. Even a part of your ability to stand tall with your word here, is created here. It's politicians have nothing different from other politicians on other countries. They are as well corrupt. It's very bold to judge a whole country from its politicians.
Either you're not empathetic, or you're ineptly understand what it means for some people to be in a difficult situation. Thus, as an answer to your comment here, which is clearly erroneous, I will leave it as it is for other to judge it. Let me indulge you though, to look up something. Look up in the skies. Try to remember the constellation names. Google them. What language is it?

Why is it, that they would use only Kraken and not the other exchanges .Does Kraken cater to them better ?
im in europe, and kraken is the best so far that i have used. normally <36 hour sepa transfers. i think its the most prominent exchange in europe with the most volume, and because of the very nice user experience, zero previous security breaches and large investment its probably the most trust worthy. if kraken wasnt around i wouldnt link my bank with any exchange. if you are in the EU, you will naturally look for the best exchange that deals in euros.
Bitstamp also uses SEPA and I believe it has far more europea users than kraken

This ongoing first stage of the stock market crash of 2015 doesn´t seem to affect BTC action noticeably so far.
Which stock market crash?
You will see

Just like i saw the crash of the dollar in 2000 ,2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 .... 2300, 2301,2302
I was not talking about the dollar.
I would not be surprised if the dollar has probably got still a ways up to go actually... makes sense, it could run up (against other currencies with their own woes) at least until the next round of in the US QE (4)....
US stock markets though are looking choppy and toppy... and with all that is going on, figures/fed talk global pressures I would not be surprised to see something go down this year, not in the least.
Though that being said with the current global currency wars, and the bond markets I would not be surprised to see some action in the dollar either..
I suspect though that the stock market and housing will probably take a hit first though, (followed by QE4?)
We shall see.
I know what you were talking about...
Another crash waiting at the corner ...and I gave you an example of another one people are waiting and waiting and waiting...

That is correct.... and are there any market watchers that have been around for a few decades that has a good reason to not wait for the next crash, in a cyclical stock market? Is there any reason that there should be an infinite bull run? are there any outside reasons, in this global system we have that there could be external pressures, and internal pressures that could cause the next (inevitable) financial crisis?
Guess not.
I am not arguing that it won't happen , but like the original post said ...2015?

I see no reason for this year to be the one of the crash and the ones saying preaching about it are the same that said 2014 2013 and 2012 before with the same arguments.

It wasn't even hacked. They are doing this to test Bitcoin one last time. This is a mark in history people. Mark my words. The price won't dip below 255. After bit stamp opens the price will remain in the 270s and rise steady from there.

+10000% in 4 years. Yep, hilarious
Wanna hear some fun math?
Everybody that mined one bitcoin almost for free is now 220$ usd wealthier
But those that bought at 1000 have lost 780$ for each bitcoin.
Funny how 400% is more than 10000%

Arbitrage transfers a dump anywhere to all other exchanges very quickly -- in less than a minute, it seems. The 1-minute charts rarely show a delay. One would have to look at the logs of individual trades to tell who started it.
The 1M question is: "But, are they real?"

Well, if an arbitrager dumps 300 BTC at Bitstamp that he bought at OKCoin, you can be sure that those Chinese coins were real.
Unless most accounts at Bitstamp and OKCoin are NotLambChop sockpuppets, and he is having fun selling to and buying from himself, just to manipulate the price and have fun at the expense of the other traders.

No , it's not Noylambchop , it's Fontas.

- earlier adopter wanting a new ferrari now?
- china banning bitcoin for the 2015 time this month?

Disapponting.
Therw hasn't been any great news on big merchants adopting bitcoin for a while.
Sorry but I don't believe in new merchants going the bitcoin way not for years, because there is nothing to be gain there.
For example bitpay says it has 100k of them. The blockchain has 40k average transactions per day , let's assume another 1.5 offchain and you'll get 1 bitcoin customer per day / merchant. And we exclude a lot of other transactions..
Then we have that link which trolfi posted in which overstock ceo is not so pleased about the sale numbers...
The big guys are doing their homework and they know there isn't much to be expected right now.
But this is going offtopic and since Magsa Himmler has included me on his LIST , i should be careful.

Traders...
But real traders with money and bitcoin to spare , cause idiots to fall in this price swings are enough in the Bworld
Also I don't believe that there is a group behind all those movements , but multiples , following the same pattern.

Owning 1 million dogecoins or yacoins doesn't make you a millionare. /last rant back to topic

too big market now.

Picture here
Compare the volume with the late January dump...
This is peanuts.
The question I have is, 'how much more ammo do the sellers have?'.
You can only sell bitcoin once

They have more ammo than the germans in ww2.
You realize that they sold 100-200 times their coins since dec'13 if you check the market volume and the dumps.

Really why do you think so? I mean yeah, they started that crazy rally the other week and turned up the volume quite a bit, but why would they do anything like that now? - Just trying to follow your train of thoughts here!
Because they had no real dump in this time frame.
Because of the low volume somebody might want to make the btc-e the leader again.
300 coins , all that it takes for BTCe to be above the startofdump price.

Interesting. BTC-e always seems to be the exchange that works according to its own rules, it seems... That's also the reason why all the other exchanges were looking so perplexed at the pump the other week, I guess. It's just not common for them to pull of a stunt with that magnitude on their own.
Honestly right now I would actually ROFL if it will be confirmed that there was no real dump and just a trade engine malfunction .
As for Btc-e , they are usually in panic mode with a lot of fat fingers. Since they didn't react to the "dump" one can only assume they would troll us the other way.

Good question. It can't be the realization that Peter Todd and Luke Jr are leading bitcoin developers. Neither Blockstream' brilliant plan of increasing adoption by limiting the capacity of the network. Perhaps it is a growing fear that
Ethereum, rather than Bitcoin, will become the world's reserve currency? Now really, did you drank some water from the Olympics Park?

talk about block size limit is getting more and more Insane. conspiracy theories everywhere!
That is because it is not a technical issue, of course. The options and consequences are quite clear to everybody who has a little patience and chooses to look at the numbers.
The issue is, first of all, who will be in control of bitcoin's evolution: Blockstream, or other people?
Then there is the question of whether saturation and its consequences ("fee market", long delays) are "good" or "bad". Blockstream definitely wants saturation and does not seem willing to accept any compromise. Their motivations are not clear, though.
I have seen various motivations advanced or hinted to, by them or by others; but they don't make much sense. Like, the hope that the fees will go up enough to compensate for loss of revenue of the miners at the next reward halving. Or the hope that banks and other big players will find bitcoin more attractive.
Either there is something else, or they are severely misguided...
The problem is we're changing

bank of america with bank of tradefortress
wall street with gox
the fed with some guys "mining" in sichuan among pandas
and the evil reptilian Illuminati with a bunch of "developers"

Nothing significant happening then really once again. I check the price so much less frequently than I used to. I miss the good old days of 40-50 USD price swings seemingly every other day.
Are those volatility days ever going to come back, or are we on some kind of steady road forward forever?
Nobody knows, we are all enjoying the game of speculation.
Some are enjoying it more than others, and some are just getting frustrated and anxious that BTC prices can remain within this apparently $220 to $290 range for more than 8 months.... and then since we are currently at the bottom of such $220 to $290 range, this kind of fact causes some people to lose confidence in whether the price will ever go back up.
Surely, I am preaching to the choir in some respect, because there remain several of us, who are still posting in these forums that remain bullish on BTC and keep holding and keep investing and accumulating.. while at the same time, having our own doubts and wondering why it is taking so long for others to also see the light and begin to invest in BTC...
One thing that remains constant; however, is that it remains much easier for many normal individuals to move around BTC, rather than fiat... accordingly, whenever money needs to be rushed to the exchanges, there might NOT be enough fiat contained therein to fight off those who are ready, willing and able to sell BTC in order to manipulate BTC prices downward (those bear fucks

)....
Well, there a lot of missing facts that people tends to forget here
1. Bitcoin is high risk / high reward investment.
2. Bitcoin is not MAKE-ME-RICH-TOMORROW-MOTHAF***ER
3. The real bitcoins are here for the long haul (no offense, but this is how it's going to work out)
4. Most of the people I came across here, fall under
two three categories : Kids want to get rich quick, people with agendas and losers (most of the bear),
permabulls blinded by greed who will never accept they have taken a bet on the wrong horse at the wrong odds5. People tend to see that the option in investing and holding bitcoins and buying more and more is easy, let them just close their eyes, and manage just to FEEL if they have 2 or 3 figures of BTC and holding them for 5-10 with a journey full of shocks and insanely hard times, this investment requires nerves of steel, a lionheart.
Forget about the bears, read the news, think about it, see the future, believe in BTC, stick with Bulls, and believe me, you will be fine.

That device is a miner tied to a non negligible mining pool.
Using some payment channel
magic and their microtransactions server your 2 satoshi transaction will be aggregated with a bunch of others and settled into the blockchain as they mine blocks.

That's what I am attempting to do, too; however, sometimes the amount available to invest is only small amount.
If you would take an advice from a guy who cares for other people, every penny counts, 0.2 BTC is better than 0.1 and 0.1 is better than 0.001 and at last, 0.001 is better than 0.
The bird builds it's nest from scratch, bit by bit.
Don't be lazy, go and invest now and always remember, don't invest what you can't afford to lose. But, risking small amount of your cash for a better future, worth risking and enjoying the risk's adrenaline rushs

Hahahahahaha
I don't know if you are addressing your comments towards me or just more broadly to the general SPECULATION thread audience?
My general BTC investment strategy has been very active and to continue to invest in BTC to accumulate and to HODL
I have been continuing to engage in this strategy since the top of the BTC price market in November 2013. Actually, I bought less than 2 BTCs near the top of the market and above $1,000, yet surely NOW, in retrospect, many people would assert that buying any BTC above $1,000 was an exercise in bad judgement (retrospect is 20/20, yet I will still say to those people to fuck off because, people cannot judge someone's whole investment strategy based on only one portion of his/her portfolio of investments).
In any event, currently and on an ongoing basis there can be some sense that over the past nearly 22 months BTC prices had continued to go down (and yes have more or less remained fairly flat - largely in the $200s territory for more than 8 months). Nonetheless, my personal strategy has continued to be to accumulate BTC within this $200s price territory.
Part of my point in my earlier post was that it remains an ongoing point of concern for a lot of people to continue to put money into BTC, but to still be waiting for the day that BTC prices will go up...
There can be questions from many of futility - and even coming from the greatest of bullish folks.
Despite some questionings that I sometimes have had from time to time, I have NOT really lost a lot of confidence in the future of BTC and its infrastructure development, because BTC's infrastructure continues to be developed and to advance in a variety of ways.. I have NOT discontinued with my accumulation strategy, even though there have been times within the past year and in the real world, when my cash flow has NOT allowed me a very large amount of continued investment into BTC.. just because the extra money was NOT there during certain periods, even when the better BTC buying periods seemed to have come about.
Surely there could be reasons to hold on to ones money and to strategically wait for BTC prices to come down, but really, I doubt that very many people really can predict exactly when that is going to be and to what degree.
Actually, for some reasons unrelated to BTC, my personal cash flow matters have been more stressed during 2015 than in 2014, and accordingly, my BTC accumulation in 2015 has only been about 15% of my total BTC portfolio in 2014 and late 2013... Further my BTC accumulation since about October 2014, has been only about 40% of my total BTC investment portfolio.
In this regard, from my personal standpoint, it takes a while of continued and ongoing investment into BTC to bring down my average cost per BTC, even though I have accumulated quite a few BTC during the whole period of my BTC investment. I conclude, sir, that my BTC investment strategy has been anything but lazy.

Care to draw a line and tell us how many btc at what average cost?
Maybe it will cheer up my cousin

who also had a GREAT investment plan

Have you come here to denigrate others and to suggest that they are wrong about something or did you want to contribute in some meaningful way? Are you suggesting that BTC prices are going to continue to go down? if so, by how much and when? Will the return up or NOT?
My only "investment" is the family business in which I hold also a position (mainly formal) , I randomly come here to see other suffering from the same diseases as I was before growing up (trying to predict things , wannabe traders , economic geniuses and gamblers) talking non-sense and claiming they hold the future of the world in their btcwallets. Also I loved how anybody trying to bring some reasoning here is labelled as a troll (i'm not talking about choppie , he's not a troll he's a psycho) a hater a banker an agent a saboteur etc etc.
And about the whole view on bitcoin is that of a fad , and every time I come here and see all you guys grasping to straws I feel so good remembering how I refused lending my cousin another 200k on top of the 300k he "invested" (his cheapest coins where in the 600 if I remember it correctly). About the future I see it as a painful long trip back to close a circle of people using it (just like old cards enthusiasts of or old game community) that will take years.
I don't think bitcoin is a total failure as it brought some new things to the world but the changes that would make it a success would turn it into something else and they will never be done

I don't understand it either.
Raspberri pi: $38
Avalon Nano3 USB Miner: $35
64GB SD card: $20
21 microcomputer:
$400???For everything else, there's Mastercard
TMHere is how a
believer zealot (one of the guys I mentioned in my previous post) sees this:
Lets look at what this is,
50$ 128gb sd card
~50$ Pi 2 (including wifi adapter)
~dev board with mining chip and fan 300$
That 300 dollars isn't just a miner so let's assume the miner part is 100$
200$ makes up the rest for :
Buy digital goods with the constant stream of bitcoin mined by a 21 Bitcoin Chip
Sell anything to anyone for bitcoin with the built-in 21 Micropayments Server
Easily build Bitcoin-payable apps, services, and devices
Operate it as a standalone computer, or connect it to any Mac, Windows, or Linux machine
This seems like pretty neat software and possibilities for 200$, I would love to see.
This caught my eye: The 21 Bitcoin Computer was produced with funding from Qualcomm, Cisco, and Andreessen Horowitz.
