I don't understand why holders are selling their btc
People that hold btc are doing so because they believe that it will be used worldwide by pretty much everybody, right? (="going to the moon")
This means that each btc will be worth thousands (or millions) of dollars, according to this thery.
In this view, btc are underpriced now... so why sell?
The only possible answer would be that they don't really believe in this technology, I guess

so what happens around here when there's real despair? like the $30 -> $2 drop back in the day - does it get quite? People no longer in pain since it's such a massive drop? Or people just think it's over?
The difference that I see between 2011 and now, is that in 2011 nobody knew about btc. Now the public has heard of it, and this big price decline will hurt btc's image quite a bit imo, in the minds of A LOT of people. Hearing that people are going broke all over the place thanks to btc doesn't make you want to invest in this technology
I mean reddit posting the suicide line, etc is not good publicity

TA 101
1) spot trend, follow it until it shows signs of reversal
2) learn what reversal patterns are, how they relate to market psychology, where they occurred historically in these markets, and how to recognize them and their variations
3) have enough self-respect and confidence in your position that you don't have to troll threads talking your book
4) profit
TA 101
1) Realize that TA is basically bullshit and doesn't work
2) profit

Ignoring people because they have different opinions than yours is the reason you holders are losing money every day, while people like me who are able to consider other peoples points of view cut their losses long ago.
I'll be listening for the butthurt to ratchet up a notch once we get sub 300. Shouldn't be long now. This train is off the rails.
It's impossible to lose money if you don't sell.
They already cut there losses, thats why they are so defencive. If you keep going at it, you can push every single one of them into a corner and they all squeal like a pig, admitting defeat and confessing that they lost money.
Now they are just hoping to buy back lower. That won't be difficult

Well for NotLambchop it needs to drop to 203$, better wish him good luck.
at this rate, we'll be there in a couple of weeks

Remember how the Cyprus trouble helped the price of bitcoin?
All this trouble with the ruble now and btc isn't doing anything, the russians are not buying.
And russia is huge compared to cyprus, so they should have an enormous influence on the price of btc.
Any theory?

People are a lot less sensitive to inflation and exchange rate fluctuations than the government going into their bank account and taking a chunk of money directly.
That's a good point. I guess people perceive what happened in cyprus as much worse than what is going on in russia now, even though the effect it has on the average citizen is basically the same
In cyprus they take your money, and in russia they take the purchasing power away from your money

There's lots of talk about cheap Bitcoins
So what USD Value do you think a Bitcoin would be cheap ?
I know this is going to piss a lot of people off but I will regard Bitcoin to be 'cheap' when it hits about $20 a coin, of course it will still be cheap at $10 but that's irrelevant.
It will continue to work regardless of what the price is.
I know the relentless greed around here will not agree with the above, the world still needs dreamers though.
That's the whole issue, imo.
You need to be able to value something in order to know whether it's cheap or expensive at any given price.
The best man in the world at figuring out the real value of things, Warren Buffett, says that the value of bitcoin is zero.

Below average mining price, whatever price that may be.
We soon may find out however.
The value of something is not how much it costs to produce.

Bitcoin is going to be a huge global success. Therefore, temporary lower prices are a good thing, because they give you the opportunity to buy more.

I know what you're saying. People need to really think outside of the box. Don't listen to the media. What does your gut tell you about Bitcoin?..I have become successful in many areas of my life through spiritual guidance and mediation. It's not a bloodbath. The price is being pushed down on purpose by a someone or a group of people. They are making It more affordable for everyday people to hop on board. With the Russian ruble collapse and the world on the brink of another war. There is no better time for Bitcoin. Bitcoin is here for a reason. There are much larger forces at work here. We are all apart of the forum because we were guided here by our destiny. For some reason we are more aware of things than everyday people. So in turn I believe we will be very wealthy in the coming years. There are only a handfull of people who will get rich off of Bitcoin. But that wealth will help re stimulate growth into a stale united states economy and help propell us into a new Era much like the Internet did. Most people won't buy into bitcoin until it's too late to get rich. Because they are still stuck in the Matrix to some extent. Stay calm my friends and meditate.
Holy shit.

https://blockchain.info/address/1L2JsXHPMYuAa9ugvHGLwkdstCPUDemNCfTransactions started to appear in the suspicious address after 1am european time on 04.01.15. The first transactions had fees of 0.55 and 1 btc, respectively. These continue thought the day with fees of around 0.1btc. First complaints of deposit issues started during the day. Stamp sent out an email the NEXT day, shortly thereafter suspending its site.
As can be seen here (
http://www.walletexplorer.com/wallet/6e20c5b8ebb819c7?from_address=1L2JsXHPMYuAa9ugvHGLwkdstCPUDemNCf), the transactions coming into the 1L2JsX address are from bitstamp addresses (note that this page is not real time, so not all new transactions are displayed).
The cold storage address mentioned above was not touched since mid december. The first new transactions in this address appear at around 10pm european time on 04.01.15. This appears to be a sweep of hot wallet addresses and brings in about 10k btc. Notice the specific structure this sweep transaction has (example:
https://blockchain.info/tx/c84a1b8e7aaeae81cf3a1db7e37fdd6befbedafb4213338f412c6981b9469553) - a round amount is swept to the cold storage, an arbitrary amount is put in another address where it is combined with other inputs and swept again. This pattern is not observed in the 1L2JsX address. Furthermore, fees in the cold storage address vary from 0.0001 to 0.001, depending on size - again, unlike the 1L2JsX address.
IF the 1L2JsX address indeed belongs to a hacker, bitstamp COULD be missing 18,865btc, with the remaining 134,872btc in its cold storage wallet. It appears that only these two addresses have been used for sweeping. This would imply a loss of 12% of all held bitcoins.
One of the bitstamp founders (
https://twitter.com/nejc_kodric) tweeted: "To restate: the bulk of our bitcoin are in cold storage, and remain completely safe." Interpret that as you will.

This is rich. A bitcoin bulltard saying that shorting profits are "fake", and that shorters are gambling, but bulltards are not.
If anything, bulls are the ones gambling, even more than the shorters if that's possible. From a value-oriented investing perspective (best represented by Warren Buffett), the value of one bitcoin is zero. Who is being more rational here, the bull or the bear?

Who cares about that? Seems like you're going by the dollar standard. It's filthy fiat, forget about that. In the near future, bitcoin will take over and $ will be a thing of the past.
