Regarding incentives, what about this line of reasoning:

If you were say a cryptograher/coder and you worked on Bitcoin, but wanted to create your own cryptocoin, and watch it gain popularity after you made it, Would you have any incentive at all to sabotage the current frontrunner by objecting to any and all reasonable proposals for improvement?

If you knew that even a tiny minority of dissent in the community could shutdown those improvements, and that your sabotage would likely succeed, would that maybe give you added temptation?

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but since we are supposed to look for attack vectors and vulnerabilities, is this not a concern? If not, why not? Are all developers and POTENTIAL developers above reproach? Should they be?

You would do it with the risk of killing yourself in the process, first cryptos need to grow and become popular and their presence in the society reaches a no return point, then you can use Machiavellic plans to kill BTC and make your own currency the top one

from 450 to 650 is quite a big jump, will take much more than 1 or 2(or some dozens) of barriers to be broken until 600+ is reached, if it ever reaches such level any time soon

question will be what happens at 1150? ath should be a decent resistance.

The ATH was so long ago it feels a little like ancient history now. Perhaps the market will simply shit all over it on its way north just to prove that we're in a juicy new era.

New ATH is better measured on market cap due to all the bitcoins that have been issued since the last ATH ... same as measuring the low versus previous ATH worked out more reliable for picking the low.

New ATH will be hit around $888 (~$13.9 bill market cap)... I'm expecting solid rocket boosters to be engaged if we go through that convincingly and since it is lower than current cost ($~950) fully expect it to happen but not sure how soon.

What current costs?
The most efficient miners can mine under $200/BTC and still get profit.

Even when the price was stable around 200 the hashpower still increased

Well, AOL was pretty successful for a short time. No reason private blockchains won't have some success too. Some people even still have aol email accounts.

AOL is quite a success in the USA.

I know in some countries they have been a failure, but AOL is far from being an almost dead enterprise.

And private blockchains seems like a paradox, considering that the nature of the blockchain is being decentralized. Maybe some technology inspired in the blockchain, but with some modifications. Gonna watch the video carefully when I have time

Amazon.

As for the price, it looks like we had a double top which is usually bearish. It could drop back down to near 1000 again.

Or we have some whale come in and jump us up $20-$30 and we move to new territory on a nice slow climb to new highs and beyond.

Not directly, but she bought a gift card with Bitcoin, then bought the shoes, unless I'm outdated and Amazon is accepting Bitcoin directly

Are u saying BTC is from history now!

or maybe its litecoins time like other coins did
Litecoin is going to see significant gains before BTC goes to full bull mode again, this movement today is just a test drive. A signal to all as to what's to come. Sitting at .006ish currently, but targets could be anything upwards of .03-.05 and beyond, esp if segwit starts sailing.

all of sudden Litecoin gains 50% value with no news that I'm aware of

for me it looks more like another pump instead a natural movement of people running from Bitcoin to Litecoin.

why would the pumpers keep growing LTC price instead of going to another alt?

Absent major drama $4200 - $4400 is doable by year end. Look at past ATHs and compare the rise to previous.

Yes, but lots of things may happen in August with a possible hard or soft fork incoming, that could hurt BTC at least for a while, or even make the rise even bigger. One way or another, I think there will be a drama.

What are your thoughts if we see a flip in the king of market cap from BTC to ETH.   Correct me if I'm wrong, but since there is no hard cap on the number of Ethereum generated, it could not mean all that much?

Eth/btc is the most stable thing right now. Hard to predict what will happen when things changes.

I was expecting ETH rises above BTC for a short time then be heavily dumped, but don't know now.

That is a pretty heavy drop currently.

Ether is tanking brutally.

The cryptocurrency market has been pure garbage for a while now.  Some big group(s) whether it's R3 or Digital Currency Group or both first pumps BTC, then pumps all alts one by one, then pulls the plug on everything simultaneously after they run out of fools to buy their pumps.  You know damn well the Poloniex staff are involved as accomplices in the pump and dumps too.  Anytime I mentioned a coin that I knew was going to rise in the troll box and told people to buy it, the mods went ballistic.

But it doesn't stop there.  You see, the R3 banker dirtbags favor Ethereum as their scamcoin of choice since they own it all, so they pumped Eth to the moon and then put up big ask walls in both Litecoin and Monero and a few other coins to try and prevent people from doing anything in those markets to try and get people back into Eth to buy their overpriced scamcoin pump.  This whole market is a giant criminal racket led by R3, DGC, Poloniex staff and a few others (maybe some guys like Pantera Capital but not sure about them).  Poloniex even adjusted their fee structure to give the R3/DGC pumpers no fees for high volume wash trading.

To make things even worse, when they pull the plug on BTC + alts, they let everything implode while putting up giant support walls on Ethereum so that each market implosion always has Ethereum gaining ground in market share compared to bitcoin and all other alts.  Vitalik should be public enemy #1 for helping the bankers attempt to take over cryptocurrency.  As for me, I don't really give a shit.  I was dumping bitcoins for silver as fast as possible from $2700 to $2500 because no cryptocurrency created thus far (and probably ever) actually improves upon metals in any way besides how fast you can dump them.

But coinmarketcap says ETH lost more value Litecoin Monero Huh

How can this be, if they are preventing ETH from falling and dumping others Huh

So far Bitcoin is the coin that lost less value %-wise, except one or other minor coin

I think the declining BTC value of BCC indicates the market is pricing in the increasing odds of 2MB Bitcoin blocks becoming reality.

I think the declining BTC value of BCH (I suppose that's the altcoin you meant) indicates that a certain gang thinks their money is best burned supporting the next attack, so BCH purchases are being phased out.

Yep. Pretty much you sum it up.
RIP BCH. Hello B2X.
Next free money drop, please!

I'm not sure it is "Next free money drop, please!".
Your BTC transaction will be replayed on BTC2X.

Why should I care what is happening on B2X network or on any other Bitcoin [put-some-extra-word-here] network that is trying to mimic Bitcoin network? I simply take what they give me and dump it for bitcoins. Case solved.

They share same keys, same addresses. If you dump at B2X then they dump your BTC. (it is same network, the difference is small -> block size ) ... there is not replay protection

1) if you dump BTC then your transaction will apear on BTC2X and you lose BTC2X
2) if you dump BTC2X then there is a chance that your dump will be replayed on BTC

Then it is ever worth the risk of claiming the forkcoins Huh

Weren't the chains supposed to be separated after the fork day Huh

This is a bit confusing
