Interest drying up in bitcoin. Look at Google Trends for confirmation that interest is going lower every month!

The last time interest was this low was summer 2013, which means fair value of 1 bitcoin is < $200!

Why would we be? Has something fundamentally changed with the protocol? Has the US regulatory framework suddenly become hostile towards bitcoin? Has anything fundamentally bad occurred in the bitcoin news sphere?

The answer is no because this is technical selling and buying to take money from leveraged minnows and weak handed speculators like you Smiley

The only reason you are cheering on any price decline is so you can buy some for yourself. Admit it.

that's right, nothing has fundamentally changed with the protocol since last year when each coin was less than $100 in value. So that's where we're headed back to!

Bubbles come when you least expect them.

Bitcoin and this forum need to be forgotten again! and maybe a new bubble will happen...

Sure, but we're still in an enormous bear trend, and we're not even at the blood in the streets phase yet. Litecoin definitely is, and bitcoin will follow it down I suspect. When you see the bulltards here give up hope and admit the folly in their thought processes, then maybe, just maybe a few months later it will happen again.

That is, if we don't break $300. If that happens, all bets are off for the future of crypto. It would be a huge strike to the confidence of the crypto economy.

The whole 'blood in the street' being necessary is what is going to bite the bears in the butt when the time comes. I don't remember much blood last year before the autumn rise.

We didn't need such a phase last time around, because there were still few who believed that it was going to happen again. In 2014, everyone and their mom was anticipating another bubble, and even got their aunts, uncles, grandparents to invest for the same purposes. Once everyone expects it, it won't happen and they need to be flushed out of the system, sadly.

It's because in the whales' quest for margin call hunting (first Bitfinex, then BTC-e), they have effectively killed the market, killed off all confidence in it now.  No sharp bounce from a local bottom like they expected, no strong support signal like we had in April.  Completely reversing all the upward progress and momentum from mid- May.

People who bought at the beginning of the year are now tired and fearful of this market.  People who bought since mid- May are now tired and fearful of this market.  So who's left to buy now?

Looking at the charts, it looks a lot like 2011.

Post of the day.

Mt. Gox is also part of the problem.  Most people are unwilling to leave fiat on an exchange, so there is a 4 business day lag before new buying can start.

Yeah, bullshit post of the day. There are no "whales" manipulating the market. It's third party payment processors like coinbase and bitpay liquidating their customer's coins, along with investors losing faith in the market. It's really that simple.. more sellers than buyers, along with ~3600 new coins minted EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.

But because so many people here put their heart and souls into this technology, they need to believe that it was some kind of conspiracy working against them. Ridiculous.

Looks like despair is not far away.

I really have to chuckle a bit, as for false interpretation and short to to mid-term skepticism a was called a bear, but looks like being a bear is making strong holding your investment without fear and despair.

C'mon guys, what have you expected? That it would rise without times where the market will shake his participants hard, harder and a lot harder?

Your are venture capitalists! This no government bond.

We're almost there.  I'm guessing we're going to see another four digit dump between now and tomorrow which should really set things off.  Either way, they're not getting my coins.

Oh lord not the "silk road" argument again. That happened during a bull market in 2013... this on the other hand is right smack in an 8 month and counting bear market, with no end in sight. Prices won't magically shoot up tomorrow or any time soon "just because it's time". There needs to be something for investors to get optimistic about. Merchant adoption doesn't cut it anymore... nothing short of a government pegging their currency to it would cause a turn around in sentiment... but no country (even Zimbabwe) is dumb enough to do something like that!

Sweet troll, you are right! It could go to 200, it could go to 100, it could go even to 0. But one thing you are wrong.

If price will go up in the future, it could magically go up, (seemingly) without any reason, same as it's now falling (seemingly) without any reason.

But there is a reason for this fall, and the HODLtards just don't want to hear it. There is no further significant growth to the bitcoin economy, transacation per day have remained fairly constant all year, the mythical bubble didn't happen, and mom and pop investors are growing tired and spending their coins at merchants or just reducing their exposure by sending money back to their safe and sound bank accounts. Why is this so hard to understand?

Something to think about: BFX said that 7k btc were dumped to create the long squeeze a few days ago.  There are only ~100 people with that many coins.  If you take into account that they would not risk more than half of their entire holdings, there are only ~40 or 50 max.  If you say they are smart enough not to risk more than 20%, there are very few.

So one of the bitcoin big shots is the one who screwed the market and tried to bankrupt the longs.  The 7M USD in coins (probably much more) that he already owned wasn't enough.

Disappointing, isn't it?

They never said all 7k were dumped by a single entity. This was caused by many players *together* cutting their loose. Cut *your* loose before it's too late!

My credibility comes from my predications which have been correct time and time again. No one person can know with 100% certainty price movements from day to day, yet I have an unblemished record. hmm that's actually a good point.

No, it's not. It increases usability and therefore also value. The flaw in the above is the implicit assumption that 1. only people that already own Bitcoins will spend them and 2. They won't replace them. Both 1 and 2 are incorrect.

It increases usability for holders, not mainstream shoppers online. Bitcoiners BEGGED paypal to accept bitcoin, so they have relented. It makes sense, why would they turn down a plea from people to take their money?

Most important news, spending bitcoin will become a lot easier and widespread.

Yes, you're right!! SPENDING is easier, but still no reason for people to buy!

1. There are people who don't have Bitcoin who will purchase them to purchase items
2. There are people who already own Bitcoin and use these for a purchase, who will (immediately) replace these coins by exchanging fiat.

1. Why would they use fiat to buy btc which will then be sold for fiat? Why not just skip the middle part.
2. Maybe? Maybe not..

Agree, because you can buy everything with fiat but with not Bitcoin.
Why they will take extra step of buying bitcoin then purchase item.

You obviously have no comprehension that countries tend to have different fiat currencies, whilst crypto has no borders.

And banks already perform conversion on your behalf. What's your point? I can use my US credit card to buy stuff in other countries, with zero exchange fee. And if my card number is somehow stolen -- which has never happened -- I can call the bank's fraud department and I'm not held accountable.

...

Did you just hear that sound? It's all the bitcoin-tards screaming out in terror as the last paragraph basically destroyed the myth of bitcoin's "advantage" over traditional payment models.

Some of you people seem to believe that one government issued currency can't be spent in another country. Are you really that dumb?

1. Ease of use, fees, privacy, security, avoiding international restrictions, crossing jurisdictions, avoiding fiat exchange rates when purchasing from overseas, etc. etc.

Only in bitcoin land would you hear something like this...

Right, because buying bitcoins from coinbase after providing all your bank information or meeting a stranger on the street to make a cash transaction is real easy (and safe). Not to mention storing them securely.

Coinbase, localbitcoins, etc, all charge fees and mark ups. I have not been charged a bank fee of any type in ages.

Bitcoin is pseudo anonymous, at best.

you must be trolling us now

are you buying nuclear weapons from Iran or something? what the hell.

tl;dr unless you like to come to bitcointalk and day dream with other like minded fools about easy riches, there is no practical reason to buy bitcoins.

This Apple pay service looks good, very fast transactions (not waiting around 30 minutes to buy your buckwheat smoothie while the vendor waits for the transaction to confirm) and best of all, your credit card number is completely safe because it is encrypted in the software, and Apple uses a one time randomly generated pass for each transition. Even if you lose your phone, your credit card number is safe.

tl;dr .... basically, every perceived benefit of bitcoin has been destroyed

Why are we hanging around $400 now? Prices are way too high still. Last winter, $400 would have sounded good... but a year of bear market later, $400 for a digital token sounds like a joke. Nobody will be buying at these prices!

Given the market sentiment, the "true value" should be no more than $250 right now, so we still have quite a ways to go.

Bitcoin's fundamental technology hasn't changed, but it doesn't matter anymore. The mobile payment market has changed radically in the last year. Consumers can now carry their wallet with them on their NFC enabled cell phones or even their wristwatches. Tell me again, what incentive will they ever have to convert -- for a fee, no less -- to a volatile digital token which can be easily stolen or lost if they're not a network security subject matter expert?

But.. but... Chuckee! The dollar is doomed! Once it crashes, everyone will buy bitcoins to protects their wealth!

lmao. First of all, there is no economic meltdown looming. The US government can write itself IOUs for decades to come. If you're waiting for this to happen, you're going to become the skeleton guy sitting at his keyboard.

Second, when it does eventually happen, people will turn to the same assets that they have for thousands of years: precious metals. They don't want digital tokens that have no intrinsic value outside of a computer.

But keep holding, and telling yourselves that your beanie baby coins are going to be in huge demand again someday. Suckers are born every minute, and we need you all.  Cheesy

I've always enjoyed the "fallllling" character.
He was illiterate and expressed himself in general like a 6 year old, all while preaching the message how bitcoin's price will fall. All the "clever and experienced" bitcoin traders thought "hey! if someone like this (kind of retarded) thinks that bitcoin will fall, then the result must go the opposite way!".
What can I say, well played, sir, well played..

Well said  Cheesy Cheesy

Here's the thing about the bitcoin bulls. Basically the extension of their hope relies on the follow principles:

1) bitcoin fundamentals have not changed.
OK, but if people are not interested in these fundamentals, it doesn't matter if the protocol "works" or not. The betamax fundamentals still work, OR HD-DVD, but people chose other protocols for various reasons.
2) bitcoin is a new technology
doesn't mean anything. the virtual boy was a new technology, but nobody wanted it, despite a small niche of fanatic gamers.
3) There are many "bitcoin pregnancies" waiting for maturity.
Look at above two points. And now, bitcoin has lost 70% of value in ONE YEAR. Nobody wants it! And unlike 2011, we now have merchant adoption, so basically, bitcoin's potential is already "maxed out" or very close.

Some of the bulls take these points and add mathematical terminology, long term trend lines, and avatars of themselves in suit and ties to make it look all polished, but anyone with functionable brain can see it is wrong! Looks like fallllling and his wise associates right from the start!
