This price surge seems to be led by the Western exchanges, and must be due to the European VAT ruling.
Were there any countries where bitcoin trades were already paying VAT (or inhibited because of it)? In Sweden maybe? In the UK?
Norway 25%

All people are seeing with ETH is a rising number on an exchange. I'd love to see a survey of its, er, 'users' trying to break down what it actually is. That's not gonna stop it becoming a beast of course. The number one utility for the majority of crypto users is being able to sell it for more than you paid for it.
So the BTC price not doing well is like a self-fulfilling prophecy? Will it spiral down from here on?
The Accumulator just moved roughly 1.4m ETH to an exchange. What usually happens next?

i was scared when i saw the btc price going down today. then i checked this:
https://www.coingecko.com/de all crypto is going down. this turbulence will drag btc with it, but only due to some weak hands panicking.
so nothing to worry.
bitcoin will keep rising.
Well whenever bitcoin's value decreases, the alts get a decrease too, and that's what happening right now.
Currently, according to Poloniex:
Bitcoin now stands at $2400 while ETH at $250. Pretty nice decreases.
Poloniex use USDT, it isnt USD, the price there is always lower
