Now that the US has put out a notice for auction of 50000 BTC, i see big investors and whales dumping to bring down the price so that they can buy in cheap and pickup those 50K coins. Something similar to what happened when they announced the sale the last time. My only issue is, once the price settled down it did not move up as quickly as everyone anticipated. Could this mean another long drawn bear run? Don't know for sure, but im buying in when these coins are cheap and hoping that the price starts rising once the auction is done and dusted. My 2 satoshi.

It is extremely difficult to predict a bottom, i am also surprised as to why BTC is crashing. I would have thought that after the holiday season, buying pressure would resume which would push the price up. The opposite seems to be happening and i cant seem to understand why! Even the so - called gurus are clueless. I guess i am gonna ride this out. The money i invested in my 2 BTC was something that i could afford to lose. It would have been nice to make a profit, but well... you win some, you lose some i suppose! I am so into crypto now that i cannot imagine a world without it, but if BTC continues this slide, we may soon hit a stage when crypto would be worthless or would just become like a hobby, like collecting stamps and physical coins!

Maybe i should re-work and buy at $100 now. I had planned to get back in at $210 earlier this morning, and now i see the price at $180, going by these crashes we should see $100 pretty soon, and that will be a great buy opportunity. Anyone knows why BTC is crashing though? Cant really see any big news, besides Russia apparently banning BTC. China banning BTC was a big joke and would not cause such crashes! Methinks its a consortium of banks playing about to kill btc eventually.

This is quite sad.
I've invested over 8000 GBP & I'm at least 75% down now.
I can't believe this.
Hope this was money you could afford to lose?
Thankfully, i have invested money that i could afford to lose. Even though it stings, i am not too worried even if BTC crashes to the ground. This may be the time to diversify my portfolio into some other altcoin which i believe is the future, you can buy more of that coin for less since everything is tied to BTC atm. I cant think off too many though, maybe DRK for me!

People keep using the words "money you can afford to lose". Do you mean any amount other than what would cause him to die of hunger? Children's education money? Or do you mean dinner money? A cup of coffee?
There is no such thing as money you can afford to lose. There is only money. And it always hurts to lose it.
I beg to differ, i set aside a certain sum every month under the head "Entertainment". Entertainment budget covers my trips / movies / gambling/ etc.,
This IS money that i will lose anyway, of course it will give me entertainment in exchange. Off late, i have been setting aside some money for Crypto-entertainment too. I also dabble in penny stocks, there too i use some money (small amounts) every month and buy some stocks in the hope they go big! This is clearly money that i can afford to lose, if they hit it big, i make a profit, if i lose that money, its still okay as this is not money i need in my daily life!

This is weird, but when i signed into my xapo wallet today, i saw that the 24hr high was $433, doesn't that mean that bitcoin went way beyond $300 at one point in the last 24 hrs? People seem to be talking about Bitcoin trying to crack $300 so i was a bit surprised. Could this be a glitch on the xapo wallet? Not sure where they get their prices from (i mean which exchange). Could be their own exchange actually, if they have one!
Can anyone else check and see if they see $433 too as a 24 hr high on their xapo wallets?

...a mishmash of visible minorities waiting to use the ATM, many of them with heavy accents, some seeking help from the receptionist as they seem new to Bitcoin.
My guess is that many are buying bitcoins to send home to their families in their native countries.
My guess is that the people you're talking about are Asians sending money back home if, in fact, that's their motive. ...
Actually, I saw more black people with African accents than south or east Asians.
Toronto is very multicultural, a city of immigrants. Traditional white anglophone natives have been the minority for years.
We're more of a mosaic than a melting pot.
Wow,
This just lit up a thought in my mind. People who remit bitcoin from the US /UK or Canada would buy BTC at the prevailing market rates at the ATM (I assume this, maybe use one of the major exchanges as a benchmark), the moment they remit this money in BTC to folks in India or Asian countries, we do not have an atm / money exchanger who would immediately convert BTC to Fiat. Hence we put the coins up on LocalBitcoins AT A PREMIUM to market rates. This is a great income opportunity if the ones receiving the money do not need it immediately, they can put the coins up at a premium on LB and that way gain even more value for the remittance. I am sure people have already thought of this method and are milking it!

It appears that there is always some issue when btc starts a bull run. This time we have the blockchain spam issue which seems to be causing a lot of grief. This cannot be a co-incidence that bitcoin always runs into issues just when it is about to break into a bull run. I am sure there is someone or some organisation and govt. agencies who are behind these spam attacks and every other attack that has happened to BTC ever since it came out. This just goes to show that they are bothered by the rise of crypto and will try anything to kill crypto in nascent stages. BTC has shown its resilience to these attaks so far, but how long can it hold out is the question.

Going by the second chart, it looks like btc is stabilizing around a certain range. My understanding of the first chart is that people are hoarding btc and not using them to purchase stuff, hence the drop in tx volume. Maybe i am just an optimist though lol!

It is interesting to watch the poll results, until yesterday people were ready to go all in if the CIA took charge of bitcoin. Today , i see a drastic movement from the other side. Even though the number of votes are extremely low and may not reflect the opinion of the masses, i feel the masses would vote to go all in if the CIA took charge of Bitcoin. The only issue really, is that this was not the principle of Bitcoin when it was launched, it was supposed to be free of any government control or in fact any central authority. The fact that people are ready to go all in if the CIA takes over is interesting, because people feel that essentially it is a government nod for the use of Bitcoin. Bitcoin is supposed to be the currency of the free though, so its quite interesting to see how it has evolved over the years. If you put up this poll at the start of the Bitcoin lifecycle, i am sure 95% would have said "GTFO".

Pretty sure it was a joke dude. Playing off the brilliant argument that Gavin and Hearn's move to go past 2.7tps surely means they're agents.
The CIA probably burns bitcoin's market cap every other day... So, ain't nobody got time for that, besides... we're keeping all the data distributed and safe for them for free.
How does it not surprise me that gmaxwell resorts to exaggeration and hyperbole, to support the Blockstream agenda?
Well... even it was a joke, most of the un-informed would not even be aware of what you just said. So going by that yardstick, people are of the mindset that government backing is somehow good for Bitcoin. To an extent you cannot disagree with them. If the government had an agenda and some interest in promoting the use of bitcoin, they would go all out and ensure the bitcoin boat would be steadied and the volatility would not be present. I don't see that happening any time soon either, but people are living with a false sense of security that if the government backs something, it must be good.

Does anyone else think this has something to do with the USMS final auction of "seized" bitcoins? Or does this have something to do with the block halving which is due next year?

It is now quite clear that this latest huge P & D was orchestrated by the USMS to ensure they got the maximum value out of the auction. Now that the auction is over, down we go! Thank goodness they have no more "seized" bitcoins to sell. Hopefully we will now see Bitcoin steadying itself.

Clearly the ETF will be approved. Someone with insider information just confirmed that. Is now the cheapest time to buy ever again?
Will the SEC take back there decision after this shit show?
This seems quite likely that some insider knows about the ETF approval decision. It could also be someone trying to pump and then dump quickly too, taking advantage of the imminent news that should be out soon!

This is so confusing, users on Yobit exchange are already selling BCC and it is tanking as expected. If the fork has not happened yet, where on earth are they getting the BCC from? Can some please explain? Thanks!

They are virtual IOU tokens. Also, Yobit is not allowing BTC withdrawals or deposits. So you cannot claim anymore BCC going that route.
Thank you for your reply, so essentially they are trading something that isn't even here yet! Maybe something like futures? Wow, what happens if the split does not really take place? or is the split imminent... sorry for the n00b questions, but this is all so confusing!

Yobit pulls coins out of their ass, no joke.
My question, is this a possible indicator to how people would react to BCC IF the split happens?

Fork Watch: First Bitcoin Cash Block Mined
The first Bitcoin ABC/Bitcoin Cash fork took place at block height 478558 according to BTC Fork Monitor.
Over the past week, the central theme of discussion has been the August 1 hard fork and the possible birth of a new token called ‘Bitcoin Cash’ (BCC). The fork has come about after months of long debates, scaling proposals, and community infighting and many bitcoin proponents from both sides are showing a sense of relief although some are still uncertain of the events that will take place, and how the bifurcation of the Bitcoin blockchain will play out.
Today a whole lot of people have been patiently waiting for the user-activated hard fork (UAHF) to commence and the coming of the new digital currency Bitcoin Cash. August 1 has arrived and the 12:20 UTC time period has officially passed. The first BCC block 478558 has been mined, but at the time of writing a split has not yet occurred.
Site is back up, they are 18 blocks behind now! If this does not show the poor acceptance, i don't know what else would!

I need a BCC wallet so I can send them to exchange first atleast

Sweep all your BTC into another wallet you control, then download coinomi wallet for Android to send all your BCC to exchange of your choice (hitbtc or bittrex are good options)
Are hitbtc reliable? Their UX does not inspire much confidence! How about ViaBTC? Anyone has any experience with them?

i haven't heard great things about hitbtc. viabtc have been around for long enough.
i sent some to viabtc with the expectation of not getting anything back. i'd do the same for hitbtc.
anyway maybe there'll never be another block in which case there's nothing to worry about.
Thank you!
Do you know if viaBTC need a completely verified account for withdrawals? If they have been around for sometime, i guess its the safest best, especially with bittrex acting all shady (wonder where that volume is coming from, i doubt that anyone would have left so much coin on their exchange wallets).

only for cny. they haven't asked anything for a small bitcoin withdrawal.
that's if it's ever possible to withdraw. they want 20 bch confirmation before they'll let anything you've bought off the platform.
i've heard hitbtc only want two. that's not very reassuring or sensible.
Haha, i am unable to get the 5 required by hitbtc (probably new policy) . How on earth will we get 20 confirms, unless you know a BCC miner personally, even in that situation if the blocks are not being mined properly, it could be days before my BCC / BCH hits them!

well i got my fill of free money. how about you guys

speaking for free money...
I have a newbie question regarding the claim of BCC.
I have a wallet that had BTC. After the fork i send the BTC to another wallet to be sure.
Now , i install new BCC wallet and put the wallet.dat of the empty now BTC.
I am ok or i need do something more?
hmmm that SEEMS ok
here is another way
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73xNBMy7V4Medit: sending your BTC to another wallet before you do this might be more prudent
Good morning all

Anyone that can help...

i did both proposals and the Balance is 0 !!
I tried with Bitcoin ABC wallet and waited until fully synced. After i replaced the wallet.dat with my old BTC wallet.dat that before the fork had BTC inside.
I also exported the priv keys to the Electron Cash also balance 0 !!
Any idea???
Did you switch to the BCC chain in electron wallet?
Click the network icon on the bottom right of the wallet -> Uncheck "Select Server Automatically" -> Click the "Server" tab -> Right click on "bcc.arihanc.com" -> Click "Use as server"

There appears to be something very wrong with the Electron Cash wallet (the real one/not the .net scam one)
Yesterday I did some transactions with it and all was fine, this morning all the transactions had disappeared.
I checked with a block chain explorer and nothing dodgy has happened, all the transactions are there, and no new ones.
But, I'm gonna stay clear of it, and am currently loading up a full node.
You were warned many times on this thread to not use Electron Cash scam!
I dont know why this quote was attributed to me! I did not complain about the Electron Cash wallet! I am still using it and holding my BCC until i can dump them on some exchange as soon as deposits open!

When its the best time to sell the bcash??
Are we expecting a pump ore its over?
Cryptopia opened up for cash deposits a few hours ago. The price there is now under 50% of the price on bittrex. And when bittrex opens up for deposits the price will most likely crash there as well.
How many confirms does cyptopia need for deposits?

Pullback or not we are going to the moon within 3 years, and we are just start to get launch off of earth.
I can't wait for people to ask "Hey how is that bitcoin going (With a smug face)"......."Oh you mean up 150%"......a lot of common folk still think its dead, I'm still waiting see Facebook posts about it, haven't seen one yet. A lot of people were proclaiming how they were right about Bitcoin being a "bubble scam" last year....
I share this sentiment, i have so many people who act smug, the way you mentioned, can't wait to throw it in their face the next time they ask!
I guess most of these guys were driven by jealousy at missing out in the first place!
