This is the perfect time to hear everyone's regrettable sells.

In the dumbshit column: I bought a monthly subscription to some worthless shite for the sum of .025 btc at $313.30 in Nov. 2013. Was in regrets when it went to $1000 on MtGox later in the month. So, .025 x 12 = 0.30 btc or $93.99. Now, however = ~$3,174.00
Sheesh!
Dont sweat it bro. No one could have known what the price would have been today.
I bought a 0.5 ounce gold coin for 60 btc back in 2012, thinking i was genius during the $266 rally.
In 2013 I dumped 100 btc in the Silk Road crash, thinking the bitcoin experience was over.
I lost a bunch load of btc in the MtGox debacle.
I don't know what my point is, but I guess we have all have made mistakes in our early bitcoin encounters. My recommendations to all the newcomers is; HODL.

Dear WO gentlemen,
I'd like to introduce myself. I'm a long-time lurker. I've been reading this thread on and off since 2012. I do have an account from that year, but I lost access to it after the bitcointalk database breach. I don't care though. I was a nobody here then, just as I'm a nobody here now. I probably didn't have more than 10 post anyway. Like I said, I'm more of a lurker.
I'd just like to chime in and say thank you to all you WO participants. I really enjoy reading this thread. Reading about the rare TA, getting a rough feeling of the market sentiment, or just reading about the everyday WO drama.
What about me? Got my eyes open for bitcoin in 2011, but I thought I was too late in the game, so I never bought any at that time. I eventually pulled the trigger the following year and bought my first and only bitcoins at around $10. Even though I've lost or sold 90% of my initial holdings, I'm really fortunate. Bitcoin has defined my life. I'm in my late 30s and I am retired since a couple of years back, living my dream. All thanks to bitcoin.
Once again, thanks. I really I enjoy 'lurking around here'. Keep it up, cheers gentlemen.

What's up Wall Observers,
Just a heads up to any new investors. Don't panic sell, hold on to those precious coins. A drop like this is nothing unusual. In every bull-run we've had several 20-30% corrections, just to reach new heights.
Let me share you a story about my first bull-run back in 2012, when BTC went from ~$5 to $266. I bought in at around $10. When my BTC had doubled or so in terms of fiat value, I thought it would be a great idea to diversify some, so I bought a 0.5 oz gold coin for 60 BTC and 40 BTC worth of silver. If I would have hold on to those BTC, the same amount would have given me 400 oz gold bar today (thanks Gyrsur for your updates).
Don't be like me back in 2012. Hold on to your coins. We are still very early in, in this bull run.
Cheers,
Krubster

Hey WO's,
Today I had a class (I teach electronics as a side activity to my main job). We were talking about digital stuff, gates, etc. One thing led to another and we ended up talking about Bitcoin. I felt like Andreas Antonopoulos on stage...
Some statistics:
-- Most students hadn't even heard about Bitcoin, and those few who had were all males, no females knew anything about it. However, the females were very interested, especially when they realised it can be very profitable.
-- The few students that knew about it were mostly misinformed about what it is and how it works.
-- The entire class (about 30 students) was ecstatic. They really wanted to know and understand it. We skipped all breaks, they wanted to stay in the classroom and learn about it.
-- Many of them wanted to buy. Many downloaded wallets on their phones. Some purchased online versions of Andreas Antonopoulos' book.
The entire experience confirmed what I already knew: this thing is just getting started. Young generations are very keen to embrace the new technology, when it is properly presented and explained to them. Not sure if what I did was "appropriate", but it felt right, and I felt glad that my "lecture" may change the lives of some of those guys.
Keep HoDLing!
Sir,
Excellent post. This is what bitcoin is all about. Here, have my first ever spent merit.

bla bla bla... I'm a retarted scammer... bla bla bla...
Listen up you dipwit.
I don't often post here, I do however enjoy reading this thread a lot. But you are totally ruining it for me with your relentless scamming attempts.
You have had numerous of people that has offered to pay you, if you accept escrow. But for some reason you won't accept that. Still, you claim that you and your "group" have a lot of money. I mean, why not accept escrow if you already have a bunch of money? Just do your thing and collect your $5 million bounty when you finished your goal.
Even if you or your "group" doesn't have the money to fund your campaign, why not take a loan? Mortage your (mom's) house? If you believe in yourself, it will be worth it.
Heck, I could offer you 50 btc in escrow if promised a 10x return in 365 days or whatever your stupid deal is. But we both know that won't happen, because you are scammer. And a pretty bad one, to be frankly.
This is a forum about bitcoin so it's inevitable that it will attract scammers. If you are trying to scam people, which you obviously are, you should try harder. You can look up the user pirateat40, he was quite successful at it for a while.
No kiddie. What I suggest you to do is to turn off your computer, get out of your mom's basement, get some fresh air and try to interact with some girls or whatever floats your boat. But before you do that, ask your mom to buy you a new t-shirt or two. The old, ragged, washed-out t-shirt you were wearing when you posted your picture won't help you much with that. Just a friendly advice.
Off you go. Good luck.

The recent dip bounced at the upwards trendline that we've had since late March. I can't post a post a picture since I'm a newbie, but I'll provide you a link.

I managed to scoop up a few satoshi at $10k, but I'm still unconvinced this is the bottom before the next leg up. The volume isn't there quite yet imho. It doesn't matter in the long run though, buying at these levels will still reward you in the long run.

The news releasing today of what they known about for over a year is a little concerning. Wouldnt you agree?

But still those hackers are in possession of all those customers information including government issued ids including passports which are good for 10 years!

Price of bitcoin is showing the sediment of those who are selling on binance so to get their funds off of there and close their accounts.
Yes, I do agree it's concerning. And devastating for the people affected. However, this isn't the first time this is covered by the media. It has been reported back in January this year.
https://decrypt.co/4648/binance-kraken-exchange-data-haulAccording to that article, this database has been in circulation for about a year (from today) on various darknet sites.
My guess is that someone has bought this database on one of the darknet markets in an attempt to extort Binance of money.
But this hack didn't happen recently, and most likely Binance wasn't hacked at all in the first time. Possibly a 3rd party who handled the KYC documents at the time of the breach.
Here's a statement from Binance earlier today
Dear Binancians,
We would like to inform you that an unidentified individual has threatened and harassed us, demanding 300 BTC in exchange for withholding 10,000 photos that bear similarity to Binance KYC data. We are still investigating this case for legitimacy and relevancy. After refusing to cooperate and continuing with this extortion, this individual has begun distributing the data to the public and to media outlets.
First and foremost, there are inconsistencies when comparing this data to the data in our system. At the present time, no evidence has been supplied that indicates any KYC images have been obtained from Binance, as these images do not contain the digital watermark imprinted by our system. With that said, our security team is hard at work pursuing all possible leads in an attempt to identify the source of these images.
On initial review of the images made public, they all appear to be dated from February of 2018, at which time Binance had contracted a third-party vendor for KYC verification in order to handle the high volume of requests at that time. Currently, we are investigating with the third-party vendor for more information. We are continuing to investigate and will keep you informed.
We believe this is the same data set that was covered in previous news articles, such as:
https://decrypt.co/4648/binance-kraken-exchange-data-haul. The hacker also claims he has KYC information from multiple exchanges. When asked to prove the source of the data, the individual demanded 300 BTC and refused to supply irrefutable evidence of their findings. Later, they went to the press under false pretenses, posing as a white hat with good intentions. The relevant law enforcement agencies have been contacted and we will be working closely with them to pursue this person.
If you are able to provide any information to help identify this person and allow us to pursue the individual through legal action, we will offer a reward of up to 25 BTC, dependent on the relevance of the data supplied. You may submit this information by opening a support ticket at
https://support.binance.com.
Lastly, unrelated to this, please be wary of any fraudsters who may impersonate Binance customer service and request you to withdraw your funds.
Please remember that protecting our users’ privacy and keeping our systems secure, including the funds stored within, is our utmost priority. We have numerous measures in place to ensure the safe-keeping of our users’ information, and we will continue to maintain the highest degree of transparency while serving our community.
We will keep all of you updated with any developments throughout our investigation and we are grateful for your continued trust and support.

Toxic2040 first on track in less than ten minutes. Unfortunately, does not understand the difference between 'who' and 'where' (I keed, I keeeed). Silver Star.
Krubster also on the ball. With sufficient specificity to claim the Gold Star.
LFC_Bitcoin went the extra mile, nailing it down to a street address, though later than the sufficiently specific Krubster.
Before posting, I should have thought about an actual award (other than the coveted stars, of course). Working from the seat of my pants....
/.../
Gold Star: Krubster wins $100 USD worth of crypto.
SIlver Star: Toxic2040 and LFC_Bitcoin each win $50 USD worth of crypto.
Payable in each winner's choice of BCH (ha!) or BSV (haha!). PM me your addresses, gentlewinners.
Good job, all.
Wow, that's very generous of you sir.
Since you were listening to Mr. Antonopoulos, I suggest you donate my win to him. So he can keep up the great work that he is doing.

Are you long or short? What % of capital? What are your take profit and stop loss levels?
I'm long.
If you count the btc/fiat/stocks ratio I'm 99% btc, and have been so since 2016. If you take properties/land into the equation I'm still 80% btc.
I'm debt-free. I have my own house and my own land.
I sell a small portion every month to cover my bills and everyday expenses. The rest stays in btc -- always.
I quit my corporate job in 2016. Because fuck them.
For me there is no take profit level. When the time comes, I won't need fiat.

What's up Negotiation,
I'm not sure what you are asking about, but I will do my best.
I first heard of bitcoin in 2011. I liked the idea and the concept, but I found no easy way to invest so I kind of forgot about the whole thing.
The next year, 2012, bitcoin got a bit of attention in the mainstream media thanks to Silk Road. That raised my attention again and I started to investigate more about it.
At first I found a local market that sold bitcoin. I sent about 500 usd worth of money to this site and made a market buy. However, this site was so illiquid that my market buy moved the market 40%.
After this I started to investigate further about bitcoin and found out about MtGox, the by far biggest market at that time.
I sent a few thousand bucks to MtGox and bought bitcoins for it. At this point I was holding close to 500 btc.
Shortly after this bitcoin began its rapid rise from $10 to $266. I have mentioned this earlier in my posts, but during that bubble I sold 100 btc worth for some physical gold and silver. I dumped another 100 In the Silk Road crash. I also lost/sold a bunch more.
Without going into much details, I've made so many stupid trades.
The first bubble you experience is always the worst.
I have learn from my mistakes. After my first bubble I've been holding like a champ. I did lose a substantional amount in the MtGox debacle though. After that I also learned that - not your keys, not your bitcoins.
In short, hodl.

I did not say the protocol could not be changed. I am pointing out Krubster's rather daft implication that the Satoshi-CSW question has anything whatsoever to do with the fact that SegWit is the alteration.
Sir,
I have always respected you. Not for your believes, but for being a gentleman and keeping a civilized tone despite all the (unfair?) bashing you receive.
You're very intelligent, I give you that. I do however don't agree with you. For me, segwit
is bitcoin, anything else is an altcoin.
Just because segwit wasn't mentioned in the whitepaper some 10 years ago, doesn't mean it can't be bitcoin.
Things evole. Technology improve. Just as bitcoin has improved. Segwit is a part of that improvement.

Did you always hold some BTC and then have to reshuffle around after the MTGOX situation?
Of course in 2013, and thereafter, there became quite a few other ways to acquire BTC, but surely it can be frustrating to lose some BTC too, and I suppose the longer that any of us is in BTC the more likely we would have had made some various mistakes based on keeping on exchanges or other mistakes.
Surely, you have quite a few more balls than me to send money to Japan, and I have my doubts about whether I would have done that, even if I had heard about it in 2011 or 2012.
I have some real fucking difficulties remembering my thinking about bitcoin. I know that in the period of about August 2013 to November 2013, I was researching into various investments, and I had bitcoin bookmarked in one of my tabs, to get to those tabs later. I don't recall exactly what my feelings were. I had heard the name and it was something that I bookmarked to look at later. I recall that between about August and November, I had made several new investments into various index funds.. just traditional and safe investments, and I was kind of experimenting with adding those new index funds to my portfolio, and then in about mid-November 2013, an acquaintance on the interwebs, mentioned how he had been making so much money on BTC. He said that he had been buying BTC in order to buy drugs on silk road, and he did not spend them right away, so they just appreciated like fuck, and he really did not know what he was doing with his investment into BTC, but it had caused him to acquire a decent amount of wealth, and that story caused me to read the stupid ass bookmarked tabs that I had pending for a couple of months. Weird.. and another weird was when I read the tabs I was like holy fuck, and it did not take me very long to create a buying strategy, because I was already shopping for something and bitcoin seemed to be a great hedge against my then other traditional investments.
Yes, I have have always held most of my bitcoins in my own wallet. Back then I was running a full node. Now I have them stored on a few hardware wallets instead.
The difference back then was that I had maybe 25% of my stash parked on MtGox. Just for the convenice and being able to trade.
Now I only keep 1-2% of my total stash on an exchange. Just to trade for fun, and to cash out for my montly expenses.
Most of my remaining coins haven't moved since 2012, except for 2017 to claim all the forked coins, and to move them to a segwit address.

Your insinuation that the Craig-Satoshi conundrum has anything to do with SegWit being an alteration to the Bitcoin protocol, however, remains daft. Granted, it was likely a mere rhetorical talking point. But if so, why stoop to that level of inanity?

Communism on the rise? No - see China and the former Soviet states.
Totalitarianism, yes - lurching that way - but it is appearing in the form of nationalism and as far as I can see it seems to be coming more from the right wing than the left in the West.
We know you are a leftie so your opinion carries no weight. But for general information, culture always moves from right to left over time. Nationalism is a right wing thing. It is on the decline, and has been for decades. Multiculturalism is the opposite of nationalism.
So your prejudice about me wins the argument? And who is this 'we' you speak for?
I am a capitalist and generally libertarian actually, but no matter. However, just because I am not as jackbooted as you does not make my opinion of no value. I was attacking your sloppy and farcical arguments, not you. You, I pity.
If you think nationalism is in decline you are plainly deluded. America first? Brexit? AFD in Germany? Ergogan in Turkey... Poland's Law and Justice party... Orban in Hungary.... Seriously? The liberal consensus of the post-war West is in decline, not nationalism. Everyone printing money, 'strong men' in politics with idealistic simplistic solutions often involving stretching the truth..? Sounds more like a reversion to the politics of the 1930s to me.
And if you are leaving the West because of communism, as you advocate everyone should - do remember to shut the door behind you on your way out?
Back on ignore.
I am done even entertaining anyone on the left. You, and people like you, do not understand human psychology or economics. You are worthless.
If you have an argument then make it. You have as yet not done so. There is no argument to win.
Kurious has solid arguments. You on the other hand, are merely ranting.

You say that now, but if bitcoin really takes off I can see lots of get-rich-quick imitators coming on the scene: gitcoin, nitcoin, witcoin, titcoin, shitcoin... Some of them are sure to attract users with promises like "Why use bitcoin, where you can only generate 50 bitcoins every few months? Use shitcoin instead, and you'll get 51 shitcoins every 2 minutes".
Of course the cheap imitators will disappear as quickly as those 1990s "internet currencies" like
flooz and
beenz, but lots of people will get burned along the way.
Nice find. Interesting how the same argument is valid today, 9 years later. The only difference is that have a few more thousand shitcoins today.

WO Gentlemen,
Sorry for my OT-rant, but I hope that's ok.
I'm sitting here in a hotel room somewhere in Bangkok with FOX News as the only english speaking channel. That's why I browse here instead.
Reading the last few pages I realise Greta has gotten quite a bit of attention. While I don't agree with her, I do agree we have to stop with all this plastic madness. The other day I was at the beach, and I couldn't even see my toes in the waist-high water -- that's fucked up. As another reference , I bought a coffee, a sandwich, and a yoghurt at 7-11 this morning, and got a plastic bag for each item I bought.

My friend Shelby, who many of you may know, just pointed out that we're still following masterluc's Dec. 2018 predictions:

Considering this was posted in december 2018, that's pretty spot on.
If we evaluate each of his predictions, we get as follows (I'm taking these numbers out of my memory, so please excuse me if I got anything wrong)
- End of 2018: Find local bottom between ~1500 and 3000
- Pretty close on, we hit the bottom at ~$3100 in December - Mid 2019: Retest the straight trend between 10k and 20k
- Again, pretty damn close. We reached a local high of 13k in August. - End of 2019: Fall back to the verified support at ~6000
- Still a few months left, but not far off if we look at the current price - 2021: Go to new highs and historical V, according to his charts at 70k+
- Yet to be verified
I've been following Masterluc since 2012. Him predicting the top in 2013, following by a multi-year bear market (if I recall correctly) was pretty damn impressive. After that he made a few less accurate predictions and after that I haven't pay as much attention to him as I originally did. But damn, these predictions of him deserve some credits.

That reads kinda Silk Road.
Wtf. That killed a lot adoption
WTF is right. How can you be even dumber than roachie to not know that's a take on the Jolly Roger pirate flag? Its only one of the most iconic images of all time. Here was the logo for Silk Road you dunce:

It was defunct by 2013. Bitcoin didn't even start to take off in terms of real-world adoption until 2016. There have been darknet markets that process 100x the number of transactions of Silk Road that have already come and gone, and Bitcoin now has more adoption than ever.
Go back to your troll cave and continue masturbating over your pictures of Calvin and Craig.
Yeah, I get your point and totally agree that the darknet hasn't had any significancy on today's price.
On a personal level however, my awareness of the darknet markets made all the difference In the world for me.
If it wasn't for Ross and Silk Road I wouldn't been aware of, or invested in, bitcoin as early as I did.
I owe this brilliant mind so much. Having him locked up feels like such a waste.

Oh, and about this hv_ tool. He is totally delusional and not worth quoting.
