well, now the real question is how much FIAT people got in their wallets!

Well, I think me with my ca. 1000 Euro  (i am student btw) will have much more real money then  all those hodlers with 1000's BTC  by the end of the day:))

If someone with 1000's of BTC would sell like 0.5% of their BTC holdings they would have more 'real' money than you at the moment, plus all that 'fake BTC money'.

Not sure if you are trolling or not... I guess not lol

For those of you who feel a little uneasy because of the latest 'dip'...

I superimposed the current trend (over the last 50 days) with the run-ups to the April and November 2013 peaks.

We still seem to be right on track for a peak between $4000 and $5000...

Good news is we only need to wait a fortnight (maximum) to find out if history will repeat itself.

edit: This plot has the peak occurring in late July, which is based on the assumption that the peaks occur (approximately) every 234 days (an assumption based on historical data).

Nice graph! This is looking very promising, let's hope history will repeat itself.

About 2-3 weeks left to buy cheaply it seems

You mean, if I had bought in late November, when I first heard of it?  Tongue

I'm ready for another summer rally to 3k.

Who's in?
I'm looking for a rally to 5k and if it happens, I'm preparing Magret de Canard for the forum.

Shotgun! Cheesy

I'm also thinking that the top of the next rally will be higher than 3k.

There are just so many charts with previous rallies superimposed over the current price movements and also long term trend lines that point to a higher top.

I know results from the past are no guarantee for the future but I think (and hope of course) the second half of this year will be pretty awesome Cool

Is it me or is selling all your coins at the moment to hopefully buy back in cheaper next week highly risky?

I have less than 12 coins and at this current moment I wouldn't dare to sell even 1.

At this current moment the upward potential by far outweighs the chance of buying in a tiny bit cheaper along with the chance of missing out and/or having to panic buy back in at a higher price.

Also you don't lose money unless you sell at a loss, by holding in a small temporary downwards movement you don't lose anything.

We just broke 2 year bullish trend, have no buying power visible and also good news don't effect the price at all. We didn't have a bad news for a long time, we forgot the feeling...  Smiley If anyone sold short term (weeks) be careful for high up volume, otherwise not so so risky. There won't be moon here next week.  Smiley

I don't mind waiting for 2 weeks Smiley

Quote from: adamstgBit on July 15, 2014, 02:26:31 AM
first, selling all your coins is not recommended... you gotta have that long term hodl even if it is just 1 BTC and you trade a alot... Always be HODLING!

second, totally depends on your entry point risk tolerance and stuff.

once you got all that sorted out.

feel free too go gamble your bitcoin net worth at bitstamps!

 Wink

For sure! Long term hodling all the way here Smiley

I'd probably be a pretty bad daytrader so I stay out of that game.

If I know for sure that during the next runup the price increase is unsustainable I will gradually sell (to buy back in later) between $3000-$7000 or higher who knows.

Until then:

No chance I'd sell anything but I will still keep earning fiat on a regular basis and pumping that in as I see fit. Buying things w/ BTC=good, selling precious coins for slave stamps=barf.

I hope to be able to buy in on a regular basis  soon, just need to make more money  Tongue

and so, i trade and hope for bitcoin to swing my way so i may grab it, hodl it, if only for a little bit...

It seems we all need to gather more slave stamps somewhere so we can buy more shiny coins Grin

Unfortunately I need those slave stamps first to spend some on vacation and pay for school.

It would be nice if I get the chance to buy 1-2 more coins along with some extra Monero the coming ~3 weeks when hopefully the prices are still reasonable Wink

As an Aussie, I have to say, all these retailers offering BTC payment are completely missing the point. Why would an American pay with BTC? A credit card is surely much much easier. It's us foreigners that need it, we get screwed by the currency conversion. At the moment the only person paying with BTC is someone that already had them, probably purchased much much cheaper, and is in effect cashing out. Nobody in their right mind would buy BTC just to purchase something online, the hassle and time involved is still ridiculous. But for something like a laptop, where currency conversion is usually around 3 -5 % of price, it could make a $100 dollar difference to everyone overseas, which would definitely drive adoption.

Dell, Overstock et al, get your shit together!!

It seems you are missing the point.

The retailers accept BTC payments because it's easy, costs them less fees than creditcard payments and there is no risk of chargebacks.

Also paying with BTC (if you already have it) is easier for the consumer, also there is no risk of identity fraud and your creditcard details won't get saved somewhere in plaintext.

Dell and Newegg also gave people the incentive to buy BTC if they didn't already have it by giving discounts

And you only trying to buy my holding cheaper

/ignore

I trying to help people here, I don't care about buying back. Until I see a strong indicator that the bear market is over, or some new innovation is in development, I am out! I have been out since July, when price was still >$600.

For weeks I have warned you all about a price floor collapse, and people have scoffed and abused me. Some asked my help, and I provided it. Now they have cut their loose, and they will be OK. Don't listen to the echo chamber... market fundamentals have changed since 2013 and bitcoin is no longer a major player in the mobile payments market!

If you're trying to help people to do the same as you you make them lose real value, until you sold your BTC you never lost real value.

I bought coins above $600 and below and I'm buying even more at these prices, the lower the price goes the better.

Don't sell your coins at a loss.

See you guys in a couple of years!

I'm o.k. with your plan... . .however... Are you gonna buy any BTC with your fiat while BTC prices are between $500 and $1000?

How about when BTC prices are between $1000 and $2000?

If you have an income in fiat, then as you acquire more fiat with the passage of time, what do you do with the portion of your fiat that you are investing with the passage of time?

Is there another place to invest, besides BTC?

Don't you continue to buy BTC with your investment allocated fiat, even if BTC prices are above $500?

Otherwise, where else would you invest your fiat that would be better than BTC?

Yes I have bought and will buy BTC with fiat while BTC prices are between $500 and $1000.

Probably not between $1000 and $2000, depending on the situation ofcourse. Because I have bought the most under $500.

I buy BTC with all the money I can miss except some savings.

I also invested some of my BTC in XMR and a tiny bit in XCN.

I wouldn't invest my fiat elsewhere than BTC, except for a poker tournament Smiley

We may be thinking similarly at the time, and yes, probably we just need to continue to assess the risk as the prices go up and decide whether to put more in or to withdraw some ... so buying as the prices are down and going down and selling as the prices are going up.. though the exact amounts and the timing may vary depending upon individual perspectives of risk and the spread of their total investment portfolio.

I see everything under $500 as a extremely good buying opportunity long term.

I'd also be happy to never sell my coins back to fiat if the comings years are good for BTC.

As always don't buy BTC with money you can't afford to lose and don't buy if you can't hold the coins for at least a year or else you might be forced to sell at a loss.

If I knew about BTC in 2010 I'd be snorting coke off a hookers ass every night in a Vegas suite.
Missed opportunity.
I only wish I'd invested what I have now in 2010.

Perfectly reasonable wish, you would be substantially wealthier today.  Of course, you didn't, so you're not.
Hopefully, you're not extrapolating from that missed opportunity that you can "invest" now, and be wealthier several years down the road.  That's plain stupid.

I will never be a millionaire through BTC.
I hope in a dream world 1 BTC could be worth say 5000 USD maybe 20 years from now.
I could buy a nice house mortgage free.
All a dream though of course.

You need to dream bigger.

If the price of 1 BTC is under 5000 USD in 20 years 10 years 5 years, BTC will likely have failed.

Re. your sig:  How's that going, BTW?  Bitcoin gonna be as successful, or should I move my filthy fiat to Monero instead?

Usually I don't reply to troll but I'm in a good mood  Wink

I don't really care much about the price short-term but in regards of the price I'm definately not complaining, also it's not hard to post a graph of a coin in a specific timeframe which fits you.

I can do the same:

Sure everybody in greece wont flock to bitcoin.  But some people WILL put some wealth there.  In a year we might look back at this as the catalyst that started a bull run.  Already started at $220ish a couple weeks ago really.

Actually, $220ish was a month ago. 2 weeks ago it was $230ish.

We're just trying to get back to where we were a little over a week ago.

We can consider this a bull run when we hold over $300.

Capitulation was almost half a year ago. We've been pretty well going sideways in the $200-$300 range ever since.

Yeah this.

I consider the bear trend over when the logarithmic downtrend is broken on every exchange for a longer period of time, this will probably push the price above $300.

Agree with you on the 267-272 by tuesday, maybe a bit later, however I think we're going down to 250 first.

Price movement seems similar as after the 259 top, 12h/daily indicators will probably come down a bit before another leg up.

Hidden bullish divergences showing up on multiple indicators.

I hope to get an entry around 275 but if 282 breaks on all exchanges with some volume I'm looking for a long entry too.

Resistances at 284, 294 and 315, I doubt 284 will be big resistance when the bulls step in with force so I'm looking to close longs (partially) near 294 and 315 and try to open new ones after some small corrections.

Next targets after that will be 350 and 375.

I also stumbled upon "moon phases" in trading, at first I thought it was a joke but it really seems to influence things in markets.

The Royal Bank of Schotland did a study with some impressive results, for example:

Quote
The similar behaviour is observed in other markets. Figure 2 presents the studyof S&P 500 index versus moon phases for the period since 1928 till 2010. Having invested £1,000 in S&P in 1928, by now would outcome in holding £63,864 worth portfolio, while by implementing the proposed moon trading strategy, the value of portfolio would have been £1,502,689.

Full study: http://www.scribd.com/doc/38095213/RBS-Equity-Special-2010-07-07

It seems to have an (pretty big) impact on BTC it seems, a new moon or a full moon seems to signal a (short-term) reversal, it's pretty accurate within 1-2 days for the last 6-7 months:
