$21M is still a crazy bid sum compared to the brief peak at $16M before the crash. I'm very surprised it's still rising.
Maybe a few of those 60,000 new Gox customers that signed up in early April still want coins? Nah... that couldn't happen!
Of course not. Let us believe it is a few investors who sent millions of $ to mtgox because they just want to manipulate the price lol.
So if they ever want to withdraw their millions of $ they can either wait many days to withdraw all of it or buy bitcoins and be done in one day.....lol
"It must be a manipulator!" Lol
Yes guys it is a few millionaires sending their cash to a Japanese based bitcoin exchange and NOT to buy bitcoins.
I love the failed logic of the many noobs here.
Rofl lol omfg hahaha

Guys please stop the offtopic.

Are we are looking at "likely?" Or is it going up and up and up?
I love how people think that drawing lines on a graph makes the price go in that direction.

$115 never again, takers?
Reasoning:
I have charted the spot_price/ATH price over Jan-Mar, and I think the rally has already resumed. You can offer to bet with quite good odds that we will never cross 0.95*previous_ATH. And you win the bet with a surprisingly good probability. Chart it yourself, lol. I almost always bought at ATH during those months, since it was the least risky entry point.
The supply of people that think that we are in a bubble/denial/bear market/correction/consolidation/younameit is dwindling, and it's dwindling fast. Especially their economic share of the market is about to be crushed if they do not buy back soon.
Do you still see the people that sold out in February? Where are they? LOL, they made their $10k and are out for good. The next time they will hold bitcoins is when they receive their salary.
Any takers?

Yeah sure, I'll take that bet at even odds. If at any point in the future, the price drops below $115 you pay me 1000 BTC. If not, I pay you 1000 BTC.

lol lovely odds

Situation looks very similar to April 7th from that graph, volume numbers are also similar. Main difference is though that total bid sum (and ask sum too) is way higher.
Yes really quite remarkable. April 7th set us back almost exactly 2 weeks. We won't be truly out of the woods until the ask sum roughly halves.
My preference (as if I what I fancy has any influence at all

) is that the total ask remained high
so that people don't get the 'out of the woods' feeling resulting in another bonkers spending spree and its inevitable consequence!
I like loads of bitcoins on the order book as a constant reminder that people will sell if the price is right and could easily sell loads - so don't get carried away with the buying!
Keep in mind fiat paper = infinite money supply
Bitcoin = 11 million coins to date

150 certainly looks like a bad mofo at the moment. Then 130 did too at some point. It might happen the 120's again, few days of trying to break 150.
Wouldnt be surprised if the wall at 150 is composed of mostly fake orders that will be moved.

$145 just fell.

Bring it on $150!!! Sitting there all smug and wall-like.
150 looks all cool and shit on the outside, but on the inside hes all panicky and ready to bounce any moment.
+1. I guarantee that wall is fake.
Buy into it and owner will remove it.
What a loser lol

15.
Post 1927296 (copy this link) (by smoothie) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_10.54h):
There is not enough bid volume (see blockchained.info) to pass 150.
Let's stabilize in the 140s a couple of hours and then we will attack the great wall

Simple, if all the buy orders higher than ....$132 on the bid side can stop sit and shit, and come down to attack the wall, it will be gone.
Actually most of it is coming from under 50. if you take a look at bitcoinity
People thought they could buy lower but now realize that will never happen. I bet most are buying back at A loss
Agreed, all this bubble talk was BS.
If it truly were a bubble there wouldn't be tons of fiat chasing bitcoins right now...ON and OFF exchanges.

What's interesting right now is that we are just beginning to enter a phase of institutional interest, and, I think, as luck would have it for larger investors, people were scared into putting lots of bitcoin back on MtGox. The ask depth is looking very healthy, and that is exactly what is needed and wanted by people who want to invest $100k+. I think in the next 2 years we could see the bid depth on MtGox reach around $50 million, and the price will need to adjust upward (and there will be a subsequent dramatic correction, no doubt).
I think that the bid depth can reach $50 million by June 1st 2013.
It doesn't take much interested to add up to $50 million waiting on the exchange to buy bitcoins.

Yeah, we are just starting to get the very first drops of the institutional money.
with paypal and google talking it up... man... the next 5 years should be epic.
Yup we haven't even gotten to the true "media attention" phase. That phase will get the public interest to invest...which shortly thereafter you may consider selling some coins.

Unless Mark Karpeles is lying, there's already much, much more than that waiting at Mt.Gox, off the book.
I believe he stated that MtGox was receiving $5M to $20M per day as of early April. (Reuters Interview)
He could be lying and still it would be possible to hit that mark by then.

Who said I'm holding my bloody fiat, lol. Have you read my posts at all?
I'm holding fiat when I, and I'll repeat it when I, think it's the best thing to do. I might and have been wrong many times but I'm taking full responsibility for that as it's my money, not anyone's else.
As soon as I feel, and I repeat when I feel, that it's better to hold coins, I hold them.
And neither of those tow means holding as putting it when sun doesn't shine, it can mean I'm holding any of them for hour, two, 5, day, two or 5 until I feel it's better to hold other one.

Well, the dumpers will run out of steam if the price doesn't go below 120 before Saturday is through. Once the dumpers have dumped their last dump, the price will go up to around 150ish or so easy.
How many dumps can a dumper dump? It boggles the mind...
Bears are in an uphill battle.
Once you are all sold out on coins, you're out, unless you buy back in...hoping the price went down after you dumped.
With all the fiat floating in the system....this market is going higher. No matter how much threads bears create.

I am very bullish on the next week. It is possible that $200 will be breached. Every time bitcoin starts to rise in a serious way, the supply side just dries up, leading to an overextension and then retracement. Monday can easily see $160 but I don't think the post-crash high will be taken until Tuesday.
If anyone has coins to sell directly for bank wire, I am happy to buy them at current rate - 3% as my margin. Or I can buy goxmoney (seller buys coins, sends them to me, I bank wire). PM soon, it's late here

Or I can write puts for $120! Best of both worlds for you who don't want to sell and don't want to risk the downside!
So am I.
The release of BITCOINATM will be a media whore for at least a week.
Bullish in my view.

- The wall observer is a joke, since we make the walls. Others observe them.
A rule-of-thumb:
-Don't send bitcoins to anonymous user in hopes they send it back just to "prove" you have more coins than you sent.
-Don't make "bitcoin will never hit $X" statements, it makes you look foolish.
-Observing you is a joke lol

Well, I aim for 3% increase in BTC volume per day, so since I have just bought the BTC at $112.5, it's not worth cutting my losses at $110, as it will take longer to recover them.
Anyway, the downward trend seems to have lost momentum, and is turning back upwards.
I'm trying to make my initial buy-in of 6.2 bitcoins* into enough to quit work - I'm at 16.7 now, after 2.5 weeks, so eventually I will manage it - if only I can purchase and sell at the right time for once.
I'd rather take my time, and tread carefully. I have slipped back too many times this week (I had 22.5 BTC at one point, then held cash due to a badly timed sell, as it shot up on the 3rd while I was asleep. I tried to recover by buying in late, just as it peaked again - I lost about $500 that day)

The thing is, I have very limited resources, and I really don't think it will drop much below $110 again any time soon, so I'd rather not risk it.
* I bought those (literally) 15 minutes before it plunged from $250....
What I felt reading this:

So you felt like a little girl? LOL hahahah this is some funny shit

From what I understand, he's pretty loaded and had some great foresight to get into bitcoin early. You don't get to that point without being a winner imo.
As for the 10BTC/hr, it's subjective and probably worth it to some people because this is a very specialized field so you can't just call up any old financial advisor, and if nothing else, rpietila has the reputation to be trusted not to run off with your money.

Man, this is all relative - most of people in here got his money in BTC before the bubble, when price was sub $15 - and we went up to $266, and now we are still at $110... Losing money is impossible, there's a lot of people who is VERY loaded and is not pretending they are some gurus.
Remember that buying the
BTC2,5k rpietila says he has, was just a $25k investment a few months ago (he bought at the end of 2012 I think - not so early BTW). Not a very big deal.
And BTW, people like Smoothie or Goat (just to say two members that write in this thread) have a bigger stash and they dont brag about it.

6 hours of trading for a gain of 176,000m
BTC. If we add the 2 hours of moving the btc for the scare-walls in and out of Gox, 2 hours of premeditation, and 2 hours of backend, it is 12 hours of work.
In my understanding I just made 14,667m
BTC per hour. So I don't see realistically, why I would be obliged to surrender my time for any less than 10,000m
BTC as a consultant. Many people in my level don't just sell their time.
I think the 2927 dollars I "made" was at least partly fees, and perhaps I left some money uninvested in some account. This is parsed from multiple accounts that I control in Mt.Gox in the name of Eesti Investeerimishobe OU. (Remember always to pay your taxes, I pay them legally to Estonia at a flat rate of 0% VAT and 0% corporate tax.)
As for the 10BTC/hr, it's subjective and probably worth it to some people because this is a very specialized field so you can't just call up any old financial advisor, and if nothing else, rpietila has the reputation to be trusted not to run off with your money.
Calling me is voluntary! If you are sure that you cannot recoup the price of my advice, don't call

My number is +358503235950 for consulting calls only. Book your time via SMS and have the bitcoins ready.
Narcissist or not, the guy is honest and a stand-up businessman: a problem I recently had with a silver delivery from him was handled extremely well and to my satisfaction... on a sunday.
Yeah, just remember to notify me when the silver arrives

I redeemed it on its way to the recipient because the delivery took "too long" (as if it was not public knowledge that the postal system treats PM shipments badly).
His motto seems to be: think big, talk big, act big. It's what bitcoin needs (the middle part is optional, but doesn't hurt). As long as he doesn't despise the small business I (and other might) have with him, I cannot attribute him with arrogance, either.
I don't despise anyone, but for the reasons outlined above, I am not very keen on doing small business anymore. The micro-silver-deals that I made in March, were just to gain some postcount really. I think I made a loss on them, but I write it off as marketing expense. In reality I do, and want to do, deals that net me in excess of 10-20,000m
BTC per hour invested. With such wages, I don't need to work much to be able to maintain my lifestyle. I urge the others also to be content with what they have, and if not, buy some bitcoins while they still are cheap.
Happy trading! <3
The funny thing is I could too post all of my trading history but it would only make you look much smaller than you make yourself out to be. I'll save you the embarrassment

Conference opened my eyes as to how much is actually going on around Bitcoin. Hearing Yifu speak today made me ultra bullish. ASIC mining ramp up is not far off.
I think most of us here have the intention to sell only if we believe we can buy back in the short term. Long term leaving fiat on any exchange or even Bitcoins is very risky.

Wonder how much lag would be created on Gox with a 100k BTC market order. Over/under 3 days? I'm going over.

You know what is messed up is that a 100k BTC buy order should be pretty much instant. What follows it is the part that may cause lag but I always find it odd that when the market moves really quickly in either direction gox lags like fuck. It is embarassing.

Bitcoin is too risky/volatile to be used as a safe store of value, unless you have the luck to purchase at the very start of each bubble and not plan to cash out in one year minimum, if ever.
At the moment rest in speculators territory.
No way anyone is gonna spend 1,000,000$ in bitcoins as a store of value for example, if at the next moment all the bears are going to dump their coins for the only purpose of repurchase cheaper, making the inversor lossing 15% of his inversion.
Think about it, with gold you don't have that problem, no one is watching your purchases in some charts in real time at home just waiting to crash the price later.
I don't like trading for that reason: Woooot, price just jumped ten dollars, lets crash it! weeeee, today bitcoin is worth 20 bucks more than yestarday, but my TA says it can't go parabolic! lets crash the market with my 6k coins and create some panic sell! i need moar cheap coins i don't have enought!
Very few people are cashing out because really they need the cash, 90% are waiting to see a green hour candle to dump their coins for repurchase cheaper. I respect both, but don't like the last.
Greed is slowing adoption, at least adoption by the ones expecting to use Bitcoin as a safe store of value or the ones to want to use it as a currency.
Just my 2cp.
Your view is obviously too short term when speaking of store of value. Your are not an investor of bitcoin but a trader.

No trust anymore that it will go down again to $100. Maybe $130-$150 at best.
We are close to touching the old time high again. This is not 2011.
I'm eating my cake and it tastes like chit.
Sorry to hear that.
I'm kind of nervous myself. I'm holding, all of it, waiting for the last moment to sell. I'd love to say "it looks like it's about to turn around", but in reality, I don't see any signs for that (likely to happen eventually) correction yet. Neither on stamp nor on gox. So, I'm holding.
Thanks so much Oda.
Yeah, I switched strategy to not sell anymore as it goes up. I felt it in my gut already when price moved back up from $65 to $100, as I was selling the buying was strong. I figured we just might have seen the low already and from here it's up but I didn't listen to my gut and continued to sell up to $130.
As I said many times: buy and hold has historically been a winning strategy with BTC. Daytrading BTC is a huge risk, and IMO it should be done ONLY after an obvious bubble pop that leads to a bear market, as we had from mid April to July/August.
In my book this is a very bad time to daytrade, is time to hold like a motherfucker, as I've been saying since the beginning of July. You made fun of me because of a trolly post I wrote at the beginning of April in which I suggested to a guy to hold to his BTC if he invested what he could afford to lose and didn't want to miss the opportunity of his life. I again stand correct on that post. I don't believe in risk management with BTC, I think the bigger risk is to lose a once in a lifetime opportunity to be really "all set", and the potential with BTC is so high that you don't need to invest a significant % of your wealth, by investing what you can comfortably afford to lose your life can change for real, very soon.
We are all still early adopters, even the guy buying today for the first time, but the window is starting to close, slowly. When it closes for good, it would be sudden. We are approaching ATH, and we all know what happens when we break ATH, right? Huge media exposure and back to bubble mode, and this time $1,000 will be broken in less time you need to blink your eye. What if a BTC ETF is approved by the SEC? You can image.
Sure, secure your profits. I guess that everybody who has been into Bitcoin at least for 1 year has recouped their investment and secured profits at some point. That's the sensible thing to do. But don't fuck up by daytrading when the bear market is over, now it's time to ride the choo choo train. Yeah, crashes will follow parabolic rallies, but will you be able to time that? Be careful, in this game the one with more BTC in his wallet is the one winning.
This + choo choo!

It's still kind of amazing to me that Gox is basically just one probably tiny office in Shibuya or something
Like if anyone was sufficiently furious and insane they could just sabotage the physical space and cause utter mischief
Meanwhile could it be that given the current value of BTC they've changed the limit of BTC withdrawals per-period without telling anyone? Verified limit per month is like $10k, that's just 10BTC now
The problem with Gox is fiat withdrawals not BTC....
They have 3 weeks queue as they replied me on a ticket.....
Which does not imply that there should be a BTC withdrawal delay right?
Seems to be a pretty big backlog of BTC withdrawals.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my other thread "the irony of a decentralized currency with a development team" but they don't get it and insist that "open source" keeps everything in check. Well the fact is that open source is irrelevant to the structure of the people who are in control on a minute-to-minute basis. The hard fork being pushed in a matter of hours proves this. There isn't enough time for a big open source community review of the code and nobody has time to do a full audit of the code in an hour. There are people, in control.
Congrats my friend, seriously. I remember that thread. You grasp what the Bitcoin cultists do not.
However, a certain degree of centralization is useful as we have seen, and I don't think it is a fundamental concern except in the very, very long term. Still, it is good to be aware of it.
Indeed is a very good point.
Moving forward with updates should then be done with the utmost caution.

OK, I'm not on this thread everyday-- but, I gotta say, you guys are awesome (not Fonzie, which, as a side note, is my dog's name, doh)! I always feel like there are a handful of hard core, intelligent folks who are just kinda kicking ass.

It is clear to the developers observing Gox activities that they

It is really difficult to fix an insolvent business via software engineering.

I took my profits even before the DDOS hit. The rumour this rally is based on is bull fud and the market will be back close to what it was within 8 hours.
I sold a tiny bit myself, but I'm less confident than you are.
1. It's Sunday in Japan. Gox doesn't do anything on weekends.
2. Gmaxwell has said the transactions are just standard Gox dust sweeping transactions.
3. Gox is still today trying to spend immature coins and the transactions are failing as a result.
4. Although the people on this forum appear to be living in the mistaken belief that insolvencies are resolved in a number of weeks, they aren't. They grind out for years.
5. The only decent hope for a rally in the short term is other good news outweighing Gox. It's a Sunday. Major announcements don't get made on Sundays.
6. There is some hope for a good Neo announcement on Monday. Until then risks are to the downside.
Again, your big assumption is that Gox is insolvent. If you are wrong the rest of your list can be thrown out the window.
Wind - please explain to me why JPY withdrawals have a queue at least a month long.
Dude. Everyone wants an explanation for everything and when they can't get one they make up their own. I don't have an explanation for you. But your have nothing but pure speculation to suggest insolvency.
Unless you can get me direct access to Mark for 24 hours then I will not attempt to speculate.
You can. But that doesn't mean you are any closer to the truth than anyone else.
Well fiat withdrawal problems help increase the BTC price so I'll exclude that. But everyone sending Mtgox deposits, maybe some whale realized this and figured they would try and take advantage of the situation. Everyone is following for now...
Ok I'll spell it out for you.
1. JPY transactions are being made with at least a one month time lag.
2. If Gox had domestic banking problems the most likely outcome would be no transactions. Not a growing but functional queue.
3. Insolvency is defined as an inability to pay debts as and when they fall due. Unless Gox has the money and is deliberately withholding it, it is by definition currently insolvent.
4. There are only two possibilities with Gox JPY withdrawals: Either Gox has the money and is deliberately withholding it or they are currently insolvent. Neither is a good outcome for investors.
5. There remains the possibility that everyone sending fiat to Gox to try to arbitrage will recapitalise it. And Gox will reemerge from insolvency or what ever it's current state is. Of course those funds remain at risk until Gox earnings from commission exceed what it owes to its arbitrage friends. Until then it's position remains precarious.
Anyone sending fiat or BTC to MTGOX is a fool.

This is not a chart reversal pattern, not yet anyway. The way $400 fell so easily makes me think that there is more blood to come. Why head fake @ $380 when you can do it at $350? or $250? 15 minute chart looks like a mini version of the $710 whale. $382 will be retested. It looks like a false bottom so far. The enemy of the manipulator is time.
I agree we should see some more dumping, to the mid 300's. Its very rare for a massive support to fail and not overshoot a good deal.. $383 is nothing.
It took a full 2 weeks for 400 to fall, and the support zone is actually in 382-384 from the previous bottoms. More likely than not your dream will not come true, sorry.
All of this movement makes no difference to me. It really is about being able to weather the storms that matters long term.

your first prediction of flash crash to 400 was right but your second prediction on the reversal was and is wrong, you have been calling a reversal from 550 all the way down to $400, sadly we broke that 400.
now there is 2 scary facts, China is really closing accounts on the 15th of April and this is confirmed, now Australia will be closing all Bitcoin business related accounts on the 2nd of may; now it is unclear for me how there is a chance of a reversal !! till then, I don't know if we reached the bottom yet...
My approach to predictions: If I make a 50/50 prediction, I aim to be "right" exactly 50% of the time. If I make 70/30 (that was perhaps my feeling after the Feb-25 crash) I still need to be "wrong" every third time, otherwise I am playing too safe. If you don't understand this, better not listen to me at all.
Rational investors discount the future to the present, and all information commonly available is already priced in. Now, Bitcoin is very far from an efficient market, and therefore there is a mispricing going on. I am moving funds to exchange
if nothing else helps to correct/profit from the situation.
I think this is the biggest reason why the reversal/recovery is sluggish: whales like me are scared as hell to send the million$ back to exchanges, no matter if they were originally earned by selling bitcoins or if it is new money. It is the shadow of Gox again.
Please somebody sell me bitcoins at $389, off-exchange,

I expect things to pick up at least a little tomorrow....*fingers crossed*
It's feeling increasingly bullish. Looking at the reverse head and shoulders pattern on the chart you would expect resistance at around $650, but if the $640 wall is pulled there will be little resistance. If we go past $650 it will be a strong buy signal imo.
We're still on the uptrend imo.

Were his funds not in cold storage?
No. He even said his security wasn't all that great. Passwords in a plain text file that was in a dropbox, which the password to that dropbox was not changed after heartbleed.
wow.. thats rediculous. plaintext file on dropbox? he seems smarter than that. I have heard people getting their coins stolen on dropbox, people suspect it is dropbox workers who have access to those files.
One would think his personal security tactics would be very strong to guard his fortune. but wow
I honestly think people with access to the dropbox cloud working there are "mining" through the data looking for BTC
related files. I changed my password to a 30 char COMPLEX password after heartbleed and one day one of my wallets
was suddenly drained. I completely forgot that I had an original backup of the wallet from long back saved in there
from like super early days of starting BTC and I hadnt encrypted the wallet file. No one in the world had access to the
files or wallet password besides that file I had totally forgot about, except dropbox. It was one of the few things I hadnt
put into the truecrypt container unfortunatley.
So yes, I have a feeling people working for dropbox are searching for .dat wallet files and text files with BTC related text.
how much did you lose? hope it wasn't alot, considering it was from early days
Luckily only 0.8BTC. It really peeved me though because it was just another BTC scam to add to the never ending pile.
Its tiresome trying to hide stuff in a way that isnt touchable by anything, then when I do connect the laptop to the internet
for a transaction, I always worry someone MAY have access at that split second. To paranoid now.
Ive moved to Armory wallet now and have my wallet on a laptop never connected to the internet and the wallet backups
are on USB drives in my safe. Im still worried one day Ill see the wallet drained. It seems like there is never enough you can
do now to keep you BTC safe. There is always another scam around the corner now.
Well that depends on if you are sending your bitcoin to a 3rd party. That is very risky.
Trusting anyone besides yourself is an accident waiting to happen.

This is not always true.
If you sold too early and the price was $100
But selling at "too late" is $500 after a crash...
