It's very interesting that everyone is talking about ethereum in the "bitcoin price speculation".
So I'll post my opinion too. Cool
I will not invest any money at all in eth because of the high inflation. BUT. I think I'll use the platform when it will be more developed. I think ETH is more about the technology, vs bitcoin. Bitcoin has proven that its technology works. Nowadays it's more about the price and the search for niche.

The psychology is remarkable. So many willing buyers at 1100, but at 35% discount the same folks flip out. This is why 80%+ traders are losers. RSI is way oversold, could drop a little more but not much before a significant bounce.

It is the first time in two years that I really have no idea what to do.
The price should go down the next 1-2 months. Looking the 1w chart, or the order books, the result is the same: down. But it seems that the game is changing a lot with the new chinese exchange "self regulations".
And there is still a lot of buying pressure I don't know why. Maybe the halving effekt, or a lot of new bitcoiners, or that margin trading (=shorting bitcoin) largely has been killed.
So, I'm 90% long, but I want to short. But I don't want to lose my precious bitcoins, cuz I think, that maybe it'll go up! AAAAA  Shocked

IMHO the real question after all the PBOC/China drama how many "real" coins are on those exchanges?
The timing can't be better:
1. First fake volumes (no idea how many coins they handled)
2. Fees got introduced (volume drop by 90%)
3. Withdrawal stops (sorry guys we have been faking our books but we can't fake the blockchain, we don't really have your coins)
4. Use your imagination

i get it know! PBoC wants the exchanges to pump the price! the exchanges went steaming ahead with no real bitcoins. PBoC caught them with their hands in the (empty) cookie jar. now they have 4 weeks time to actually GET THOSE coins, which means they need to buy them on exchanges. that is why we see the buying pressure all around the globe. on top of that they try to buy on their own exchanges, but of course they try to buy with a discount in their own shops...

moon ahead! /tinfoil hat off

I’m afraid you got that right. I'm not sure whether or not is the PBOC which wants the pump but that's it. If that's the case I would not be surprised to see new Mt.Goxes
It seems they were (are) working with fractional reserve. Now all of those fake bitcoins went back to where they belong: they doesn't exist.
If there are only real bitcoins on the market, having the same demand price has to go up.
And if they are really buying even better.
I have just one concern. What if huobi and okcoin have more fake bitcoins than the total amount of real offer in the market?

None of my friends have mentioned bitcoin to me recently.

Now...these are the friends I was boring back in 2013/14 about it and when the shit hit the fan and it dropped to $200 I bought them all up. My friends know this.

This has all happened and not one of my mates has asked or text me about bitcoin.

Is this because:-

A. They all know the price now and don't want to talk about it as they feel sick knowing they laughed and made jokes.

B. They haven't even heard the news as the media have hardly reported on it.

C. They hate me and never liked me in the first place bitcoin or no bitcoin.

haha same here. I entered in bitcoin world in nov. 2013, and bought my first bitcoin on the top. Ande then lost in cuz I've been goxed.
But then I was more cautious, bought almost all of my stash at 200$.
Now all of my friends and family regrets that they didn't invested back then.
And some are asking me to invest their money now  Grin And I'm like: Really do you want to be the fool who buys on the top and sells at the bottom? And they still want to invest...

Maybe a large short position was taken out around $950 in anticipation of sales that then got unexpectedly bought up by a raging bull market? Now a very large Chinese miner and fabricator is actually under water to the extent that they are very desperate for a much lower price for its business survival? Such a desperate actor will do anything, including threatening to fork bitcoin or otherwise nuclear options, since it is going bankrupt anyway.

Mind blown. Do you think this theory holds water? What signs would point to miners taking out big shorts?

Bitmain needed cash for their new data center they invested heavily last year. They sold customer bitcoins. Nothing unusual there. What is confusing is that PBoC came to rescue Chinese short sellers. If we break $1350 next stop will be >$10,000 bitcoin.

Confirmed.
Confirmation confirmed.

Stop panicking and using 24 hour based numbers as stats. This is called Variance. Just a little over a day ago, BU was sub 30% and Segwit was leading. Calm down and ignore the fork, which apparently nobody wants (see at the price on Bitfinex e.g.).

They will also accept Litecoin

Now you know why Bitcoin and Litecoin are skyrocketing, buy while you can
I have heard that there are investors buying up Mt Gox coins from people, because they think they can sue the shit out of Mt Gox, and get it back.

Is there any further update on that, and could that be a reason for the price to fluctuate?
Well, these "investors" didn't contact me to buy up my Goxcoins...
Also, if there will be a fork, will I have Goxcoins on both chain?

Yep, and also alts are showing signs of exhausting (about time!) and as I have been saying from some time now, when those fools see that they are losing those crazy returns they will come back to Bitcoin for the HUGE rise. Also Kraken is very bullish and the chinesse are still ahead of all the rest (again).

Of course, noone knows... but it is looking good to me!

Looking good to me too. Money seems to have shifted from the major alts to the lesser ones. This usually presages a rise in Bitcoin.

A chain split would be a disaster. Forkers will ruin us.

I'll be sure to GTFO before UASF happens. Maybe some want to ride that rollercoaster, I for one don't.
I don't think UASF will be successful. It will cause a price crash, but nothing on the main bitcoin blockchain. 90% of nodes and miners will remain on the legacy chain.

Correct. The 2MB hard fork kicks in about 3 months after segwit.

Only thing we can yet tell is that segwit activation is 99.9999% sure.

As someone who bought their first Bitcoin in 2012 for $20,

Indeed, I can't help but laugh at all the thousands of newcomers who just read r/bitcoin and suddenly think they are scaling experts. That Bitcoin should be able to run a node on every Raspberry Pi in Afghanistan. Yada yada yada. This is psychologically manipulated groupthink. Let's face it - many of the people getting into Bitcoin today are "newbies" who weren't very smart or educated in the first place. But they all like to act like they are, ESPECIALLY when it comes to their opinions on the Blocksize debate - an opinion that was only formed through reddit. Oh boy do they love repeating those opinions, and screaming down anyone who disagrees, like a bunch of drunken fratboys who think they are about to lose their virginity. Only a very small minority are capable of using logic or reason.

It's both amusing and kind of sickening to watch happen.

Anyway, now that the dust has settled and the "1mb forever" crowd has won, Legacy Bitcoin will likely never scale in any meaningful kind of way - Meaning Legacy BTC will never be anything more than a speculator's toy to get rich, a gateway to altcoins and FIAT and a settlement layer.

However, I still fully expect the combined speculator and institutional investor money to take Legacy Bitcoin to 50 - 100K and beyond. However, it will become impossible to move coin at some point on the main chain , with $100+ fees, making a very large percentage of BTC wallets unspendable. At that point, the vast majority of Crypto users and commerce will have already moved to either Bitcoin Cash, Monero or Ethereum. In the long long run, 5+ years, I fully expect either Bitcoin Cash, Monero or Ethereum to become the #1 coin with the highest market cap. It's inevitable now that Bitcoin will never scale - and let's be honest, Lightning Network will either never exist or will never deliver as promised --- which means BTC is going to be stuck where it is now from the scaling perspective, with only a few band-aids thrown on top, likely forever -- unless the miners finally grow a pair, say enough is enough and stand up to the bought out Corporate shills at Blockstream, but I'm not holding out hope for that outcome at all.

Remember that BTC already has 4mb capacity(segwit). It's just that companies and wallets sould use it.

In other words, even if some of the alts and shitcoins are crashing more than bitcoin, aren't they bringing bitcoin down with them?

(and Mtgox/Madgox/Matchbox/MtJokes stealing it)

Bitcoin is much more than it's USD value. It's a lifestyle.
And the bear market is like a hard reboot for btc, cleans it up from all those scammers and toxic people and projects.

Now we have a few years to center in developing the ecosystem and building the community.

HODL strong. Keep centered. Don't panic. and give me a merit point :-P

So, when is the $100 000 WO party and where? I pay the subway ticket for the bears.

I am also interested in the answer. Especially the "when" part.

November 20, 2021 in Vegas.  We still need to agree the venue for the party. All accommodation arrangements are to be made privately because opsec.

I guess Bob mentioned some islands in the Caribbean...  it's a better idea as most of us are probably coming in our private jets anyway and we need some sun after long cold evenings with alcohol in front of our laptops during HODL.  Grin Grin Grin

I'm not sure whose derriere that Nov. 20, 2021 date was pulled from but we're not having a $100k party until we actually reach $100k.

As for the location, Vegas is just about the last place I'd want to go to, even if Uncle Sam wanted to let me. Vegas is a shithole unless you're addicted to gambling. Sleazy low-class trash.

Anywhere in the Caribbean would suit me just fine or as someone suggested, summertime in Amsterdam would be a fine alternate choice. I guess the season depends on when we hit $100k.

First, the BTC price is not going to reach $100k until after the 2024 halvening, and in late 2020 or early 2021, BTC is only going to reach $98,765.43... Sorry to break the seemingly bearish news to you pie in the sky bulls, expecting $100k before the 2024 halvening.

Second, tentative date for such $100k-ish party could still be good based on price... even though it would possibly cause some logistic problems if guys (and gal) are unable to clear their schedules on such short notice.
Then we'll simply look bitfinex price, problem resolved.

A common error of traders is that they want to catch the very bottom.
You don't NEED that. Actually, unless you're the big whale(or group) that's moving the price you probably won't manage to "catch the falling knife".
Instead of that, near the bottom there's plenty of time to think and make a good decision to buy and make a good profit with lower risk of missing out.

Just wondering if anyone did notice the HUGE golden cross of today (50d, 200d MA, 3d chart):

1.Death cross, followed by immediate capitulation.
2.Golden cross, you know what to do now.

I thought 50/200 DMA cross happened in May 14th... What am I missing?

Edit: aah 3d = 3day, yay. got it.
DMA and SMA may have different results. I always look SMA indicators.

Thanks, this chart is a good one. So, what seems to be sure is that after a golden cross with these parameters, price never goes below the 50d MA line until the end of the bull market.

For those that didn't see it in the news, I've taken a photo of the terrorist attack:

R.I.P.
There's an urban legend that speaks of one survivor bear. It's weak now and hiding in the woods. But one day, when you won't remember the old bad times of fear anymore, the bear will return in search of vengance.

I agree with description, but wallet management is tough, especially if you did not use the wallet for a few years.
We think that we remember/record everything right, but sometimes we make mistakes (especially if trying to memorize something).
Memory plays games from time to time.

Anyone who is interested in getting into BTC should get a hardware wallet and follow the instructions. Schiff wouldn't have had to tweet that if he had.
OR just make a free paper wallet, or 100 000 000 free paper wallets.

🚖 Taxis called Uber a "bad idea"

🏨 Hotels called Airbnb a "bad idea"

It's simple, they're afraid.

Uber IS a bad idea.
And Airbnb also.
Why? Because they're centralized entities.
A decentralised version of these two companies would be a great idea.

In fact it would be easy to do it with smart contracts on blockchain.
