There was an article 6 months ago where paypal said they were looking at btc and had been for a while.  Now they are looking at btc.  So?

No I don't have a link, only my faulty memory.

wasnt that when they added "virtual currency" category

No, that wasn't 6 months ago... It is all mentioned in the coindesk article.

This is not the first time that Donahoe has commented on the company’s interest in bitcoin. Last year, the eBay CEO stated that a bitcoin payment option may eventually be added to PayPal.

Yet the new statements are more positive than the ones made last year. In 2013, Donahoe said eBay was “kind of thinking about” integrating bitcoin, suggesting that the company was investigating the digital currency:

One popular theory out there for the current BTC price rally is that people are expecting a flight from XRP to other cryptocoins, including BTC, when Jed will start selling his big stash of XRP.

And why wouldn't they have done so already?

BTC is not running towards a cliff.

I just found it in this newspost from May 26, among other theories:
http://pando.com/2014/05/26/calling-all-bulls-bitcoin-climbs-32-in-a-week-prompting-cheers-of-to-the-moon/

Still trying to understand the cause of the really. (It may even be the log trendline theory -- if/while enough traders believe in it, that alone may make it be true.)

This is what I think, with whales being the catalyst.

That's a load of sensationalistic journalism, there has been experiments with negative rates various places, though not on such a scale of course.

i don´t think this is sensationalistic journalism. it is the 5th year of the 2008 crisis and they have no other tool than this very last one. if it fails (and i think it will) what will they do next ?

We quite agree that it's a spiral going down, but it will take many years of slow grinding, so to point a finger and say that this makes for the end of capitalism as we know it, is IMHO sensationalistic journalism.

Exactly. It doesn't. Why would anyone sell because the USMS is auctioning the seized coins? Surely someone who goes through all that trouble acquiring such an amount of coins will not dump them on the market.

The lower the market price, the lower the buyer can get the coins for

This. They'll push the price down for the next two weeks. Hold on tight to your hats guys.

Thoughts regarding apple joining forces with visa for iwallet on iPhone six (released this fall)?

My first thought was this was bitcoin bearish. But apple mobile market share of handsets is not what it once was, not all iphone users or merchants will sign up to this. That said it will perhaps for the first time start what is long overdue, the use of a mobile as a wallet and payment device by the masses. This amongst the first steps to the disappearance of the conventional 'card'.

Overall this may widen the appeal of bitcoin especially among tech savvy youth as the idea your phone carrying money becomes commonplace.

Circle/coinbase/blockchain.info take note!

This is nothing but yet another extension to a huge inefficient propertarian centralized dinosaur system. It threatens the core of bitcoin in no way at all. Even if it gains a lot of success amongst ordinary people paying for new iPhones, it really doesn't matter in the long run in any way.

Bitcoin is not ready for a large scale consumer adoption as a currency yet. First we had the geeks embracing bitcoin, next we will see the financial infrastructures being replaced, and then maybe bitcoin will be adopted as a secondary currency by ordinary people.

There's enough space for a lot more panic. When it rains, it pours. And it merely started to rain a few coins.

The manic fixation on the short term price is of no importance to the overall decentralized revolution that stands before us. I would absolutely love to see more panic, and I will be buying all the way down. Can bitcoin fail? Of course it can, but is it likely to do so in the light of the development we have seen in this past half year? no. Will it's death be caused by a short term price crash? no, of course not.

I live in South East Asia, I live on around $2000 a month. That's in a nice villa, with a nice car, and I eat out at least 2x a day (in western restaurants not local food)

in Europe my lifestyle would eat 90% of my income, over here I save >75% of my income.

In most of US, you wouldn't be able to afford your lifestyle, period.  I lived on $2k a month (NYC) and trust me, there was no talk of "villas" or saving Cheesy

Theres a big difference between the east and west in Europe. I live in Western Europe, and here 2000 USD is what you would get from the government if you don't have a job, so that would put you right in the absolute bottom of the society. You would not be able to have a car or eat out at all, all your money would go to pay the rent of your tiny 2 room apartment and the essentials for living.

Credulous bitcoin investors are still pouring more than 1 million of fresh sweat-earned dollars into the bitcoin system, every day.  (How much more, no one knows.)  All sort of smart guys, from "Wall Street" or not, are very much interested in pocketing some of that money.  That is the only reason why Andreessen, Sielbert, the Winkles, and many, many other professional money skimmers have been investing in bitcoin enterprises...

So basically you are telling us that people are not investing to lose their money? That in fact one should only invest in things that you believe will be big one day? What a brilliant strategy indeed!

There is no such thing as intrinsic value.

Gold's utility value is pretty low and its current price is mostly speculative. Good luck with that.

gold will ALWAYS FOREVER be worth something
... while paper ( stock, bonds, etc) and digital currency can go to zero.

gold's current price is manipulated down which means it is not it's true value... which is exactly why a person would want to buy them.

bitcoin is a pump and dump and i am hoping for good luck with it since i own a bunch of it.

And it will reach the price of aluminium once the private space industry starts mining asteroids. There is NO limit to the amount of gold in existence out there, math on the other hand.
