You can only call them cheap if you´re sure that the price will go higher afterwards.

I sent a mail to Gox support about 45mins ago asking to get the funds that were stuck in limbo put back in my account... and now they're back there! I'd asked the support guy on irc to do it a few days back and he said not possible. Not sure, maybe I was a lot more polite this time

Not really sure what to make of this, I know everyone is sick of hearing gox sux stories but this was a nano step in the right direction. I hope (although not kidding myself on) this is a sign of them actually seriously trying to get their act together.. which begs the question...
if Gox somehow got everything sorted (lets for argument sake say midnight tomorrow), everybody got their BTC back in their wallets, month old fiat transfers appeared into our bank accounts everything was the way it should... would that restore faith in the magic exchange? or is the blemish too big now? can they ever regain trust of those who have left?

So just before all this excitement started i sent a request to stamp support to ask about which bank account to use as I have GBP and EUR
"You can deposit funds from or withdraw to any bank account held in your name.
Which account your chose to deposit from is completely up to you and we can not offer any advice on the subject.
Should you require any additional assistance, please feel free to contact us."
so you can't offer any advice but i should feel see to contact you to seek it? erm

well ok i know what he was getting at, but not very good answer...
what i was really wanting to know was it there any difference in speed and cost between a GBP or EUR based account with BitStamp.
Does anybody have any experience?

@KeyserSoze,
I have promised to keep my negative views to myself in this forum, but you insist asking for them...
.... spinning around only a fraction of the money that you all put in. Sorry, folks.
oh no. not the
ponzi thing again.

...
600watt Agreed.
Sorry JorgeStolfi but this one way off. Bitcoin or what ever crypto takes off is not ponzi (ok excluding the pre-mined obvious scams which disappear in a flash). Crypto currency is just another amazing technology that will change many things. Like any other tech, people will find ways to use if for good or bad. But one thing is for sure, its changing the balance of power in the world. The biggest haters are the bankers, hmm I wonder why? Its like Yoda said "Fear leads to hate..." they are scared the population is no longer dependent on their crappy system any more
Crypto offers the opportunity at least to have a chance at changing things for the better - to people who would never get it because they were not born into wealth. Now we've got a bunch of youth who previously would never see the kind of wealth they have access to now, let's hope they can change a few things for the better.
Open source and decentralisation is the way forward. Any system built on those principals has got my vote whether it makes me personally rich or someone else, reason being that the idea of openness and freedom is closer to love (surely the basis of any system that promotes true well-being) then the hate filled closed source bureaucratic bull shit system we have now.

Dear all,
I love bitcoin.
99% because it's such a cool idea... it's really amazing it took us this long to realise it, and 1% because I like the idea I could make some money by doing something that seems (deceptively) easy.
The idea of crypto (to me) is a bit like evolution. We had a bunch of stupid ideas to explain how animals worked and then along came a theory that seemed to fit pretty well. When you hear it, (at least for me) "well of course that's how it works!". Simple. That's what I thought when I first heard about BTC "well course that's how we should do it!"
My problem is, and I've heard this a few times (even said it myself) "we're in a new wild west". I hear something like, well Gox, Neo, China et al are getting weeded out, and somehow "we'll be left with only the good guys".
Well, we had a "wild west" already and take look at how that turned out, USA full of good guys? (I'm talking mostly about the ones who run it of course). Never underestimate the ability of douche bags to take control and make life crappy for everyone else.
I love BTC because I'm a geek first, and a trader ... well defo somewhere waaay down the list coz I suck at it. But I still love it.
But anyway it seems to me like BTC is like when your parents are away and you've got a house party. You want as many people to come as possible because then you think your party will be amazing, but then a bunch assholes turn up, none of the nice guys are big enough to do anything about it, and then the party is ruined for most and awesome for only a few. I'm starting to wonder if that's how life works.
Until nice guys really learn how to play hard ball and keep douche bags out (at least keep them in check), no matter how good an idea crypto currency is it will still turn to shit.
I am a hardcore bitcoiner/crypto whatever, not because I will make money but because it's a good idea. That's all it needs to be to get my love.
If my time comes to defend it, I will do my best.
I am with it all the way to the moon or to the ocean floor.
PS: The banter on this thread is epic, thank you all for something interesting to read while I drink my coffee, move 1's and 0's and watch progress bars for a living.
Long live BitCoin!

Gents not sure if this has been asked here (certainly not recently I think) but what do guys think the price will do when the last bitcoin is mined?
Just imagine if we were all looking forward to Monday's headlines
"Last new bitcoin ever was mined last night at xx:xx!"
"All bitcoins that will ever be are now in somebody's hands"
...
"Don't have a bitcoin?? where have you been for the last x years!?!?!?"
[EDIT] I know it's maybe ahead of time for this question, but still, we're not running out of pages here I think

Just want to say I love this forum. I log on every morning to have a read and drink my coffee (and then leave it open all day to stay on top of things)...
It really does provide me with the news that's most relevant to me, and a good laugh b/c the banter here is mostly pretty good.
My day job is as analyst developer and I manage a few servers to host client systems, so seeing this message about heartbleed is a big deal for me.
Defo good idea to stay away from any important SSL connections and reset passwords once the admins have confirmed they've updated their openssl packages - which shouldn't take long actually I manage to do mine in a short space of time.
So thanks for the heads up!

Bitfinex with their inside trading (manipulating).. could be new Gox soon. So yah, deposit only as much as you are willing to risk.
Dunno, the arb between Stamp and Bitfinex would have me concerned with the former.
Here's a code if you want to risk trading there. None of the exchanges seem completely safe to me.

Thanks.
And will proceed with the appropriate amount of caution
