I still think bitcoin is a scam because it wasn't a fair launch bit its still a lot better than the corrupt fiat system.

I'm calling 16k by end of this year.

It was knocking about the cypherpunk mailing list for a couple months before launch.
The only people who could possibly have been interested at that time.
Anyone who was anyone could have mined and contributed from day one or even before.

That doesn't make it a fair launch.  Satoshi was able to mine one million bitcoins himself.

I'm a crypto supporter but the fact that one guy owns such a large percentage of bitcoins scares off new investors.  This whole thing looks like a giant ponzi scheme from the outside.

Well being a millionaire these days isn't rich.  Have to be a billionaire now if you want to be considered truly wealthy.

Ok your totally right, we are going ultra bull mode and bitcoin will go back over 20k, hell it will even go over 500k just like the prophet John Mcafee predicted.

Ya ok..........and all the people were saying we will never see bitcoin below 15k again, and then we will never see bitcoin below 10k again.  and it already nearly hit 5k.

1500 is still a high amount considering where bitcoin started from and how many people got in under $10.   Bitcoin does havfe a use, acts as a digital bearer bond and you are in complete control of your money.  Well the thing is the majority of people (over 99%) don't care about any of this and would rather use a bank.  I used to be a strong believer but this whole thing is just another dot.com crash all over again but without the rebound.

Doesn't mt gox still have a bunch of coins to dump?

Also there is a very real threat of Satoshi's 1 million bitcoins.  Who the hell knows what will happen and maybe he will dump those eventually.

So... ok... how many? Do you know the number, and where did you get it from?
I really doubt there is any considerable number of such people now, as there were so many temptations to sell them in the way to $100, $1000, $10000 and so on.

No, seriously, this is an interesting question: does anyone here know somebody who got their bitcoins under $10 and still holds them?
Or may be better way to ask the same - is there somebody who spent less that $10 per Bitcoin they own currently?
There are many oldtimers in this thread, so I assume this is a one of the best places to ask this question.

I know a few people that got in under $10 that are still holding a fair amount of coins.  I was late to the party because I didn't like how the creator of bitcoin was anonymous and was holding about 1 million coins himself.  One person owning over 5% of total supply seemed very unfair.  That being said I still made a nice amount of money that has changed my life.  I'm not a nocoiner but my holdings are very small at this point and I'm playing it safe with more diversification.

People can call me a troll or whatever but I honestly think bitcoin will go under $2k.

You change your mind a lot in a very short span of time!

Yes I know, its one of my downfalls.  I am a very emotional person and don't be shocked if I change my mood about bitcoin in a few months but from what I've seen the future doesn't look too bright.

Curious how people hear first heard about Bitcoin ?

I read about it in Wired Magazine in early 2013.  I was familiar with gold farming in WOW so it didn’t seem too outlandish.  It took a second mention in the media in November 2013 for me to pay attention and find this forum on google.

I knew about it at the beginning of 2011, one of my friends that played runescape was heavily into bitcoin.  I should of takenhis advice at the time.  He is worth over 20 million now  I didn't own any substantial amount of bitcoin until 2012.

Even though this guy is fairly rich he is still quite unhappy though.  Just goes to show that money really can't buy happiness.

I hear there's  a lot of  college grads out there buried in debt right now .
Like you, they'd be a hell of a lot better off had they got on bitcoin boat*  rather than the boat they are in now.
(edit...*before 2018 2017, lol)

College is a huge scam.  People are going into debt for thousands of dollars for a useless piece of paper.  You can already learn everything for free with all the resources out there.  It's quite funny, the wealthiest people I know didn't even attend college.

This may be off topic but the majority of wealth being created is going straight to the top.  We are more productive than ever but wages have been stagnant.  Younger generations can barely even afford to live with the rising housing and medical costs.  Capitalism is going to implode on itself.

I first came across it from a news article on the BBC's website (of all places) back at the end of Feb 2013. The little tyke had just surpassed its previous ATH.

From a deep cynicism of the traditional financial system, it was like a breath of fresh air.

That sounds nice and all until we find out bitcoin was created by the government/ illumanti/ CIA/NWO so they could test out a world currency.

Below 2k will be hit again.  The inflation rate of bitcoin is still higher than the USD and the halving is still far away.  You also need to factor in the Mt. Gox coins, a large amount of those will be dumped.  I only see the demand for bitcoin dropping over the next year.  Throw in all the scam ICOs that still have btc to dump as well.

It appears that you skipped sociology 101 while getting prison tattoos and didn't notice that all non-homogeneous civilizations without an ethnocentric majority collapse, which is the only reason civilizations like Japan and China still exist.  You may also notice there can only be too many white people somewhere and that those places need to be more "diverse", while there can never be such thing as too many Chinese people in China, or too many black people in Africa.  Only white areas need to be more "diverse" aka genocided by anti-white Jewry.

Racism is natural but in today's society people act like racism is some terrible thing.  I'm not attracted to other races, only to white people.  Races have different genetic makeups which are very obvious.

Ok sorry, I know what you mean I actually thought bitcoin would go back up at the end of this year to 15k or so but after lots of research and reading I have really changed my mindset and have become very negative about the next 12 months.  After seeing all the scams and investigations, especially the whole tether thing which looks to be a giant scam.  Even Richard Heart is really bearish about the future of bitcoin, I hate to say it but I really lost hope.  I would like to be proven wrong though.

finally crypto mining companies are starting to go bankrupt. looks like it's that time of the year already.
https://cointelegraph.com/news/crypto-mining-firm-giga-watt-files-for-bankruptcy-faces-eviction-in-washington-county
still waiting for 'bitcoin dead' headlines, but looks like it may be time to slowly start accumulating.

This just goes to show how electricity is only one of many costs associated with mining. Don't believe the FUD about the electricity only cost of mining a bitcoin (~$3000). The real cost of mining is double that at least. The electricity in Douglas County Washington is less than $0.03 per kWh and they still couldn't stay in business. Every miner in the world is mining at a loss at these prices.

Here is why it doesn't matter.  Governments are secretly mining bitcoin with public resources, they don't care about making a profit.

Crypto mining is also being used to launder money, so these guys see the loss as just a money laundering fee.  They mine clean coins and turn their money clean.

I know wtf, total crypto marketcap is only around 140 billion right now. THAT IS A DROP IN THE BUCKET.

There is over 10 trillion usd in circulation, (tough to get an exact amount with all the manipulation)

Bitcoin will be trillions in total marketcap in the future.

C'on Ibian, we have never in history lived better than we do for the past few decades. Or can you point out any moment in time you would have better preferred to live?

this depends entirely on the metrics you measure your quality of life with.  Also, as always, social class has a great influence.

I think I would be perfectly happy as a petty aristocrat in Roman Britain for example.  For many, a life in a clean and abundant environment with actual unclaimed wonder over the horizon would be far preferable to today's dystopian prison web of interstate highways and satellites.

Honestly I would rather live in hunter gatherer times. Before agriculture started

Suicide was practically non existent among indigenous tribes.  It's clear that modern society is ruining peoples mental health and happiness.

We have a $250 bounce since last night, what signals should we expect to see of a true recovery trend?

if we start seeing some crypto related suicides.

Buying Eth was a much better choice in 2014-2015 though.

62. Post 48539315 (copy this link) (by Dig Bicks) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_16.19h):

All I'm saying is Eth was a better buy during that time frame.  When Eth was hovering at a $1 bitcoin was about $200.

Todays prices is 100x for eth and like 15x for bitcoin

All time highs is over 1000x for eth and 100x for bitcoin.

Just saying buying eth at that time was a better play.

Ok, from the poll it seems that most people thinks we have not yet reached the bottom. So... maybe we have?

I would say all the weak hands are already gone. I would be more worried about weak whales now.

Talking about whales... it has been some time since Bitcoin doesn't have any new whale, has it?

I mean, people like Tim Draper during the past bear market, etc....

Any new one this year?

I heard George Soros has been dabbling in the crypto markets.

Well I wish I bought Bitcoin Cash at $80, an easy 2x in a week.  The danger of alts, they pump hard and they crash hard.

Btc ratio went from 0.025 to .050, damn could of doubled the btc stack SadSadSad

Advice for 2019:  Altcoins are going to pump A LOT harder than bitcoin. Eth and BCH already 2x'd from their recent lows.  Make sure you have your alt bags ready. Eth will outperform btc this year.  Also worth buying xrp even though its a shitcoin that isn't even a crypto but it will pump.

72. Post 49017871 (copy this link) (by Dig Bicks) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_16.24h):

Umm It's common sense, bitcoin always gains dominance during a bear market.  During a bull run the small ships rise faster and higher, Ripple could easily go to 3 dollars which is basically a 10x at this point, you really think bitcoin could reach 40k in the same time frame.  I think ripple is shit but there is no doubt it will pump.

The end game is to gain more BTC , if I can trade altcoins to gain more BTC then I will.

Mcgoosens we can place a wager in escrow for 5 BTC or higher on whether eth/ripple will give higher gains than BTC in 2019.    You take BTC I'll take eth or ripple

Bitcoin is # 1 but don't act like its all daises and unicorns.  What about that inflation bug that was recently discovered that could of spelled doom for BTC.

What about those MT Gox coins that are still waiting to be dumped?

And this one is controversial but an anonymous person or group (satoshi) is sitting on around 1 million btc that may be eventually dumped on the market as well.

How can something with the volatility of BTC be a store of value.

It's just become a speculative gamble.

Well I think in the future it will be more stable.  I just never see it actually being widely used in daily commerce.

Its a good store of value that can't be stolen and very easy to transfer globally.

I see we disagree heavily,  my main goal is to give people a baseline like an UBI.  We are missing out on a lot of potential by people stuck in poverty that go through extreme stress and are never able to achieve anything great.  I believe everyone should at least have their basics met: education, healthcare, housing, food.

I'm not saying everyone has to be equal but I believe there should do a better job of lifting people up that never had a chance to begin with.

Universal basic income is literally the most retarded idea ever.

Newsflash for you millenials around here: the universe owns you nothing. Go do or creare something useful for yourself and/or others and you'll be able to take care of yourself.

Btw: Elon fucking Musk is your great example now?

People are born into a monopoly game where all the pieces are already owned.  The numbers don't lie, falling wages, rising house prices.  You don't even have the option to just go and live off the land if you want, everything is "owned".

I brought up Elon Musk because you seem to respect wealthy people, maybe he can knock some sense into your brain.
