... until bitcoin dies.
Hahahahaha.
Was enjoying your tile untill this sentence.
Good laugh.
still laughing
yesterday morning looked like a manipulative smash down. keeping bitcoin down at that moment looked politically motivated.
Yeah I've had this feeling for a long time now, probably since last year where it seemed that someone was trying to keep the price down just as it was recovering from the Gox debacle, that's why I've been elsewhere for the last few months, it was too sad to watch

Yeah hahaha, sorry about that, accidental fud I guess, my bad. Happy to provide a laugh. I meant that sarcastically/ironically to insult the shorters (who seem utterly fucking hellbent on crashing price, in spite of the *majority of people* who seem to all want it to go up and expect significantly greater prices). Of course bitcoin cannot die, it's software, it can however be devalued by 200:1 and stagnate there perpetually until obscurity (worst case disaster scenario fundamental tech issue only, of course). I have a tinfoil cowboy hat somewhere out in the garage, so I wouldn't argue against the possibility of intentional suppression of the bitcoin price for geopolitical reasons, rather than for individual profit motive. I'd rather hope it's for profit reason and not political though, hedge fund managers/wealthy individuals are likely better for everyone to be the cause than governments/banks - the former will eventually or occasionally want upward movement, the latter would likely only want total failure.

People don't invest in bitcoin because it's a softwear, it can be hacked easily.
Lol is this a joke ?

Any reason for this dump?
I felt pretty confident we would keep moving up

Maybe there is some delusion out there regarding the DAO being so wonderful, so there is some more pumping of ETH in order to artificially hype for as long as possible.. suggesting ETH good, BTC bad...
hahahahahaha...
Such artificial pump of ETH and artificial dump of BTC can last only so long...

What is ETH actually for? What's so good about it?
I no nothing about it apart from its premined right? And there is no cap.
What are the good points?
It can do everything that bitcoin can, plus can scale and do stuff that bitcoiners used to talk about, like smart contracts.
Oh, did I mention it's not a SHA256 coin, meaning it's not controlled by the Chinese exchange/mining cartel?
But, to be honest, that's just a backstory too, like people totally using BTC because it's simpler than using a CC. In truth, it's just a really profitable coin with good volume

Mind to give a proof about eth can scale ?
Bitcoin is a supersecure blockchain, other thinks can be bulid on top of it, e.g. rootstock or lightning . No need for fancy feutures. Just a good secure protocol.
And if bitcoin enters the next hyper bubble the red candle in your eth chart will be EPIC.

Post 17676653 (copy this link) (by doc12) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_15.02h):
It has to do with the issue of trust. It should come as no surprise, that people in the ecosystem of Bitcoin - an invention with the stated purpose of not having to trust a single central authority - will not trust central authorities. You might be convinced of technological superiority of core's approach (for the record: I am on the fence about this) but failing to realize this simple issue about trust isn't helping anyone and keeps fostering an unnecessary divide in the community.
I don't understand this argument at all. How exactly is Core a central authority and how do you solve this perceived problem of trust by instead trusting this other 'central authority' called BU? I don't need to trust Core at all, I don't worry they're going to break Bitcoin one day since the consensus rules are not easily changed and requires the entire ecosystem to pretty much agree. If BU was the main software that ran the network I would be very worried though, since with them I am not so sure the consensus rules wouldn't be changed on a whim. By the way Core is not a company or corporation and doesn't speak with one voice, anyone can contribute to it and a great number of developers with diverse opinions about many Bitcoin related issues do and peer review each other. Let's not throw away what we have here because we're impatient about scaling Bitcoin or disagree on how to do it exactly.
Is it really that hard to understand, that people are going to be skeptical of centrally mandated policies? Especially when they are coming from people who have been shown to engage in censorship and breaking promises, while being funded by the very financial institutions their product is officially meant to replace?
How does Core exactly engage in censorship and breaking promises? They have done none of these things, it's this kind of talk and theories that fuel the flames of division. Say it often enough and people start to believe it. I've seen a lot of open discussions about how to scale Bitcoin and in the end it all boils down to a simple thing. Most Core developers but also many experts outside the Core community believe that it's important we keep nodes relatively cheap to run in order to keep the most important aspect of Bitcoin which is decentralization. Onchain scaling therefore is limited and will never be able to support global adoption without sacrificing decentralization, so true scaling to meet global demand needs to come from 2nd layer solutions like lightning. I personally fully agree with this. There are people who disagree however and don't think it's a problem if nodes can only be run in big datacenters, and although I think that's very dangerous it's perfectly okay if someone has that opinion. However you don't need to be a rocket scientist to see that this is a very contentious issue and there's no way that Bitcoin can just hardfork to satisfy these people. So why the need for all the strife and division? We can all just agree to disagree here, we've discussed this long and hard enough by now. Complaints about censorship on a Bitcoin subreddit does not change anything. I have pretty much seen and heard all the arguments for and against a hard fork for a simple increase to 2MB, Segwit as a soft fork or Segwit as a hard fork (+ increase). Segwit as a soft fork is the only viable option here that has any chance to be accepted any time soon, and then hopefully a hard fork later if enough people calmed down again to allow consensus to form for another increase. People just need to learn to not get caught up in the drama that's mostly instigated by those who see Bitcoin as a threat and want it to fail.
It's all propaganda fueled by Ver.
These idiots think the entire bitcoin world revolves around r/bitcoin, and that Core = r/bitcoin and that somehow Core is involved in the moderation policy that happens in r/bitcoin.
Dont forget the mighty dark lord corp blockstream tamtam wuuahaaaaa run for your lives

Yes, 91% of nodes will reject BU blocks and ban all nodes relaying them -
http://luke.dashjr.org/programs/bitcoin/files/charts/software.htmlJihan is either bluffing to renegotiate (not going to happen) or he is serious and hoping that 91% of nodes will suddenly switch to BU (also not going to happen)

Post 19805741 (copy this link) (by doc12) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_15.13h):
Anyone notice this thread has 1/10th the traffic of past rises and dumps? I think this is a sign of the fact that there's no reason for cryptocurrency to exist unless you can create an ASIC proof algo where coins can be mined on commodity hardware, or constantly change the algo to defeat them. Without doing that, the draught of new people coming in signals the date of ASIC creation as the start of the coin's eventual death. If this thread is any indicator of the system at large, Bitcoin is like a brown dwarf star running on fuel from a prior era.
The only thing keeping it going at all is that some PoW altcoins are used as proxies for new people to occasionally enter. Those altcoins are generally only profitable to mine during bull runs, so it also has the side effect of making bubbles larger and bear markets even more bearish. This phenomenon is why you always see proof of stake coins wither and die like clockwork as well.
Look, scumbag! It was fun to troll Bitcoin, but back in 2013-2015 during all the bans, the fud and the panicked bears, not now after a 10x growth in price and userbase. The reason why Bitcoin is not worth over $200k right now is because of the ignorance of the masses. You are witnessing a world changing protocol, which time and time again has proved its security and robustness, that is about to decentralize everything that can be decentralized, and whose network value is not even half of Bill Gate's fortune at this moment.
If the low income people weren't buying bitcoins because they thought that they were part of a ponzi scheme, now they aren't buying because they cannot afford 1 Bitcoin. Now you have to inform them that they can buy quantities less than 1 bitcoin and that it's still worth it, but that's pretty damn hard. (tried it)
This is the last chance that these poor fucks have, because a few months/years from now a full bitcoin will be hardly affordable even for the high income group. And it will keep on going up until only the rich bastards will be able to hoard it and actually make a considerable profit out of it.
+1 nice writeup.
Anyway this guy (roach) is a fucking nazi racist antisemitic motherfucker, people with such a mindset are wrong and rotten to the core.

Good chance there are also stolen coins among the many coins we own by now. People are willing to pay a premium for freshly mined virgin bitcoins.
That´s the problem with a transparent blockchain and that´s why monero is rising right now
And that won't lead to monero attracting special attention from the FBI and having its fiat gateways tightly controlled and resources ploughed into cracking the cryptography that will eventually expose the whole monero blackchain.....

Bitcoin is absolutely right to have a transparent blockchain, it just lacks the optionally private transactions that Dash has mastered with PrivateSend. Obfuscate the transactions, not the whole damn blockchain. Ah well, people will learn.
Does anyone know Kraken's policy in the event of a coin split? Have they announced one?
The laws of maths are stronger than the laws of men. Good luck cracking the XMR cryptography. Also, the whole Dash is so cheesy that is almost respetable

Please dont compare this shitty scamcoin with Monero.
"it just lacks the optionally private transactions" <- this is a feature not a bug, anonymity by default is a necessity for a anon cryptocurrency.

Yes, Bitcoin Core. After Bitcoin Cash becomes the largest proof of work chain, we'll need some term to use to refer to the obsolete core chain. Hence, Bitcoin Core.
Incidentally, you seems to be misusing 'BCash'. BCash is a different coin based upon zk-snarks.

It is indeed a well written piece of FUD. Let's face it, the Bitcoin Cash opposition is growing and will not be stopped any time soon. There are more and more Bitcoin Cash shills every day. I think Bitcoin Cash will continue to gain steam up until the fork, but what happens after the fork is anyone's guess. My guess is the Segwit1x fork will be crowned Bitcoin. Just hedge your bets and you will be OK.
If you've ever used BCH you'd realize there's nothing to hedge. Personally speaking, it's one of the most problematic altcoins I've ever used - and the only one where its marketcap stood out as insane compared to its inherent qualities.
-There are virtually no nodes to sync - you connect to bitcoin-core of the BTC chain and you get disconnected all the time.
-Blocks can take hours.
-On top of that exchanges require several confirmations, compounding the delay problem.
Anyone taking BCH for a spin cannot reach any other conclusion than "this is so broken it's not even funny". I don't know if they fixed anything in the software since launch, but the 0.14.something-abc I tried, was f'ed up pretty badly.
In terms of investment fundamentals, the threat of massive dumps if price becomes attractive to dump, again isn't funny. But that's what happens when people get "free coins". They are very happy to dump them if they are worth something. Some have strategically kept their BCH to inflict maximum damage to possible BCH pumping - and that's also not a good prospect for a potential investor.
BTC has just 4 mn coins to mine and that's it. With forked coins (whether BCH, BTG, S2X etc etc) the store-of-value-proposition is problematic because first they have to mine another 4 million coins as well (just like BTC), but the market also has to absorb
millions of coins that will get dumped for BTC. And every time the price rises, the more incentive there is to dump free-fork-coins-for-BTC. There's an inherent uncertainty of unloading the bag first or holding it while it gets devalued by others dumping, so the game theory regarding store-of-value for forked coins is not very good...
BUT BUT 5!!! Independent development teams

.
No seriously this is probably the worst shitcoin in crypto top100. Any other shitcoin out there with same broken functionality and such shitty devs would be worth lese then 100 sats.

So let me get this straight.
The CME Group is supposed to launch Bitcoin futures trading on
Nov 14th. Then, "The Idiots Who Shall Not Be Named" are set to launch SegWit2x on
Nov 16th.
And everyone thinks this timing is nothing more than coincidental??

I asked myself the same question. Now a plausible explanation maybe is to cause a massive shake-out... .
also the bitcoin cash jokers at the same time:
https://www.bitcoinabc.org/novemberBitcoin ABC has published version 0.16.0 which contains an updated Difficulty Adjustment Algorithm (DAA).
This is a change to the Bitcoin Cash consensus rules, but the change does not activate until November 13th. This is a hard fork, so exchanges, wallets, and other software need to upgrade before November 13th.
How comical.
And I suppose they'll time the big drop with SegWit2x FUD, some Elliot Wave bullshit chart showing it heading back to $4k, along with trotting out another elitist big bankster Jamie Dimon-wannabe calling Bitcoin "pure fraud tulip bulbs", and perfectly timed with Japan doing an about-face and deciding to ban Bitcoin.
All on the same day.

Oh my ... this is not an unrealistic scenario. You forgot china banning all mining operations...

Actually ripple is a scam. It is not decentralized. You always need servers to be online to transfer money. Even if one server is down your coins are lost. Good luck with contacting ripple company to find your coins then. All rumors of banks 'adopting' ripple are fake. Imagine a bank losing billions because of offline servers???

The prospect of substantial government revenue losses is not just a problem for the United States government; it is also a problem for the cryptocurrencies themselves. For cryptocurrencies to survive long enough to be an effective means of performing everyday transactions, the cryptocurrency community will need to find a way to prevent tax evasion. This will involve a tricky balancing act, preserving anonymity while providing the I.R.S. with sufficient information to prevent tax evasion.
More generally, cracking down on tax evasion will require that the community learn to trust government. Since this goes against the very ethos of the cryptocurrency movement, it poses the most difficult — but no less necessary — challenge.

For the time being, mostly blocksize. As blocksize is all that is needed at this stage.
The BCH community, however, did demonstrate conclusively that:
- generic home computer HW on consumer broadband running bitcoind can handle ~100 tx/s
- above ~100 tx/s there is still plenty of CPU BW
- a fix to bitcoind's naive threading model increases performance
- bitcoind with fixed threading on same HW & net can handle ~500 tx/s
The BCH community is doing the work of re-enabling a host of opcodes that were thrown overboard years ago before any real analysis was performed upon them. Oh, I guess that's not scaling.
Of course, it was that same community (though pre-fork) that first implemented Xthin, which reduces network bandwidth consumption by nearly 2x.
There is discussion of adopting Lightning. Not much traction for that. There's orders of magnitude that can be gained by a simple blocksize change first.
I certainly am not willing to use up that much of my home bandwidth. And even if I was, 500 tx/s isn't nearly enough to be a good long term goal. I mean if that was all that we were capable of achieving than it would be enough for bitcoin to be a useful niche technology, that would even be true if we were stuck forever at 7tx/s, but both are less than ideal.
But ok, so increasing block size is a useful scaling vector. I actually think most people on the main chain side of the divide agree with that, I know I do. Other main chain supporters in this tread, how do you feel about responsible block size increases that correspond to improvements in computer hardware and networking infrastructure? It seems to me that the divide is not between willingness to increase blocksize or not, its a disagreement on whether we should be taking an extremely restrictive uni directional approach to this problem vs a more comprehensive multi faceted approach. I just don't see how someone can argue for the former.
Well, the way I see it, Lightning was two years too late. And it will be three or four years too late before it makes an appreciable difference. In professional engineering, one always does the best bang for the buck before engaging more resource intensive, longer, more complex solutions. Simple blocksize increase first.
Add that the way Core/BS implemented the ugly kluge of shoehorning segwit in via a so-called soft fork has fundamentally changed Bitcoin's security model, and there is not much to love there.
Sure, Lightning allows high frequency txs between a limited set of participants, but it really doesn't do much for increasing the number of participants themselves. You can still only open or close about 5 channels per sec. How long will it take if everyone in the world wanted to open _one_ channel? Three decades.
But we've been over all these points - and more. I will continue to believe that Bitcoin Cash has the right way forward for Bitcoin. Others will continue to think that I am daft. I don't much care. I am happy to let sleeping dogs lie. But when others cast aspersions, I will reply to the slander.
Shill your shitcoin in Rogers forum please... Thanks...

Meh. It's just that we have been over this so many times already.
The problem with your statement is that this gives you no justification for claiming your preferred implementation is The Real Bitcoin. Even if it were true. For there is no objective way of measuring 'the majority of end users'.
There are only two non-Sybil-able sets in the Bitcoin ecosystem. Miners, and economic power. These are measurable. The others -- including some count of end-users -- are not.
And really? Number of end users? One person who uses/has used Bitcoin, one vote? Regardless of current holding quantity? And circular Bitcoin definition? I expect better of you, Torque.
Been over this many times...check..Bch lost.
Miners...check..Bch lost.
Economic power...check..Bch lost.
Game, set, match...derp...now kindly go take a seat...quietly.
Dont forget:
- The prefork consensus rules are still valid after the softfork on the BTC blockchain.
- If you use a prefork client it will connect and broadcast to the Bitcoin network
- Bcash would be DOA if they didnt change the difficulty adjustment. Especially this point disquaifies Bcash from beeing a Bitcoin contender, because it didnt stood the economic competition. It was born as fraud and will always stay fraud.

I was confused about this reply to my post the other day..
With regards to zero confirmation spending. That is stretching credibility a bit. Even the name of it says it all zero confirmations means there is zero confirmation. I don't remember that ever being a thing. I always thought you need about 6 confirmations to consider it safe?
Dash has a great solution, as usual. With Dash 'instant send' a quorum of masternodes accept the transaction and instantly lock it. No double spend can then happen. Shortly afterwards the confirmation goes through into the blockchain the normal way. Just another example of how Dash already solved all these problems ages ago and the power of the tier of masternodes.
FFS - if you're going to shill an altcoin here, at least pick a respectable one.
A respectable coin? Wait.. what ?
but then,
If, sometime in the future, consensus dictates that Bcash is the real Bitcoin, I would acknowledge that. However, I'd also acknowledge that Bitcoin has failed, and I would disengage from the space altogether, and focus on Monero or something.
Ah OK all makes sense now. Yes Monero that respectable coin.

Thats funny.
But you can keep your opaque blockchain, makes it fungible right? In which you have to trust without being able to verify that no-one is minting coins sneakily via an exploit or bug. Or you can have privacy hoping that the single point of failure encryption wont be cracked revealing all your transactions. Like here
http://hackingdistributed.com/2017/04/19/monero-linkability/ Not to mention slow transactions, bloated blockchain.. Think bitcoin has scaling problems? But Monero does now have a wallet, which is progress.
1. You can of course verify the total number of coins 2. If the encryption is cracked crypto ist fucked anyway 3. This is old news and was adressed with RingCT 4. Bulletproofs will reduce TX size by 80-90% 5. Ledger support with next release ~ 2 weeks
Monero ist solid development, no hype. It grows slowly but surely.

Your coins need to be on a pre-fork/non-segwit address. Any coins you receive after the fork will most likely to have a segwit background. Since the adoption grows, the chances of getting non-segwit coins are becoming less and less.
That is not true. I already corrected that mistaken thinking. Please see
my reply to vapourminer.
Again I will delete this post.
Protection is provided by hodling in legacy addresses regardless of the lineage.
What rational individual would choose to not hodl in legacy addresses. Why take on the risk? Because you love Core? Oh please go ahead. Hodl in Core addresses. So then if ever the hardfork comes, you will not be able to sell the Satoshi tokens and buy Core tokens if you want to support Core.
But then that sort of indicates that Core is a failure if nobody can ever trust to hodl their addresses.
The game theory is undeniable.
Its not "Core" its Bitcoin and a big blocks hardfork is only existent in your dreams, deal with it.
Segwit is part of bitcoin now and no sane miner will burn his business by attacking bitcoin.

BCH is not a surreptitious attack as is Core. Yet it is attempting to mislead and not make full disclosure.
Stupid ass statements like this shows your true agenda to denigrate and to attack bitcoin through your own misleading.
Excuse me bothersome troll liar, I do not see the word ‘Bitcoin’ nor ‘bitcoin’ in what you quoted.
Clearly I am denigrating scammers who try to scam people out of their Bitcoin. And I named two of those scamming groups above in the sentence of mine you quoted. Neither of them is Bitcoin or bitcoin.
I understand your delusion is so deep that my truthful statement is an anathema or heresy for you. But you will learn the hard way about your ignorance.
If you can’t even comprehend one sentence, how could you even expect to understand any of this. At least if you are going to accuse me of anything, then correctly accuse me of claiming that Core is not Bitcoin.
Is this retard somehow related to roach? His trolling is at least at roach level. Maybe the nerdy brother of this nazi mofo

Ah and anonyshit: You are wrong, everything you say is bullshit. Better go and educate yourself.

And V8 - What’s that, another shitcoin/shitfork? You gotta be kidding me?
I was not joking about this joke
https://bitsonline.com/nchain-announces-bitcoin-sv-bch/Bitcoin Cash (BCH) companies nChain and CoinGeek have announced the creation of “Bitcoin SV” — a new Bitcoin implementation that aims to prevent “unnecessary changes” to the original Satoshi Nakamoto protocol. However the move could further entrench current divisions within the BCH developer community, forcing miners to choose between different and soon-to-be incompatible versions of the full-node software.
BCH is such a shitshow, its getting "better" every day. It looks like its a melting pot for the dumbes folkes from all other crypto communities and they all suffer from Dunning-Krueger really bad.

Hy guys,
who thinks we will hit +€25k by the end of 2018

Love to see that but it’s a
NO from me
Odds are looking pretty low at the moment, perhaps less than 15%? Or is that too bearish?
We gotta get above a few pretty strong resistance points, especially between $10k and $17k.... Probably if we were able to get above $17k, then we have pretty decent chances of breaking above previous ATH from there... By the way, I am also reading your €25k as a value of about $28k, since we are talking dollars in this thread, not European funny money.

.... so yeah, once we get above the previous ATH of $19,666, then probably we will be able to get into the sub $30k territory before meeting some resistance, perhaps?
The problem is so many people who bought around the end of 2017 will be holding out to sell off as soon as we get back up to the last ATH so they can get their money out. I think when we get near the ATH it wont smash straight through, as much as i would love it too.
I also think people will be happy to take a risk buying now and holding until we reach the previous ATH, without them wanting to hold on any longer as they fear the retrace.
They wont, because then Greed kicks in.

It's uncanny how well the ol' bubble cycle chart fits, isn't it?
We are not low enough... yet. There is no sign of depression ... at all. Look at the optimism here reigning. If the bull continues here, it would be a 2013 repeat.
Well if you have a shitload of btc from 2011/12 then depression is far away, but there are already people who commited / tried to commit suicide because of the drop...

I've just read this thread from friday and don't see anything about this.
Can someone ELI5 this shit for me. I read a bunch of the links but I don't follow this drama. I'm not sure how those keys work so can he really get those keys and try a flip?
UT 700K to 1 Million Bitcoin (BTC and any Bitcoin-Fork) “worthy any price on January 1, 2020” could be the ultimate dump from BTC to BCH or BCC or which ever “Bitcoin is Cash” Craig and them/team decide to do? Quick math at 700,000 BTC at $7,000 is $4.9 Billion (and if was 1,000,000 BTC at ATH of $20K~) would be $20 Billion range – by January 1, 2020 (next halving will be between April-June 2020) the price of one BTC could be much higher given the trajectory and advancements being made despite all the internal politics.
https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/satoshi-nakamoto-craig-wright-dave-kleiman-phil-wilson-bitcoin-creators-revealed/BTW if it was me I would burn those on his shitchain first and then dump on all the forks and btc while supporting his shitcoin.
There is no victory for this shitchain, if they try to destroy Bitcoin they will destroy themselves.

Netscape is gone...
If Bitcoin is anti fragile than any implementation will survive that protocol fight.
Otherwise its gone anyway.
Sorry but there is no protocol fight, bashers forked off and the market decided. And if one person can decide the fate of bitcoin, than the value is 0, even if its satoshi himself.
Basicly I think the satoshi coins are burned, if even one of these coins is moved the market will dump so hard, that the current ETH chart will look bullish in comperision.

Personally I’d wait until mid 2021. I’d rent a couple more years & then buy the house outright in bitcoin.
Everybody has different circumstances though.
Right into the next housing bubble burst ... That would be nice timing

What a poor scam. No onchain safety - sold with a nice Bitcoin label....
Hows your Bcash doing?
His tears are recorded on the blockchain with Everytime he wipes his ass as well.
EVERYTHING MUST BE ONCHAIN!
Everything that deserves proper time stamping - yes- we can - afford.
And why would micro transactions or small transactions deserve a permanent record on nodes across the world?
cause it is cheap - and getting cheaper every day
Please leave and don't annoy everybody with your stupidity. Thx.
Recording every penny transaction forever with millions or even billions of users is not sustainable and will not work (in a decentralised way). Period.
