ethereum is really going ........ anyone minds in here ?

that's so depressing, I bought at the worst possible price in January and am still holding now but to be honest I have lost almost all hope and will try to earn this back with other coins. Worst investment ever.

Hi guys,
do you trade on Bitstamp? I like the rates there, wondering if I missed some other places with better rates (Exmo rates are fantastic but their reputation is terrible).
Thanks.

Bitstamp has always been solid and reliable. Never plagued with the drama of Bitfinex, lag of Kraken or insider trading of Coinbase.
Great, that's what I thought. Thanks!

Looks good. But I don't believe this since we are talking long term, and long term analysis should never forget about fundamentals, what's crucial IMO is to know if Bitcoin will be more and more accepted or more and more banned, that's basically the more important here.
That's a great chart (for trading) but only it was on short time frame.
My 2 cents anyway.

Shit coins can make you earn a lot of money short term, and good coins can make you lose money short term. That's the sad truth when it comes to short term trading.

I remember in btc-e's trollbox people were saying $40k next year when the price was $1000 in 2014. After 4 years we reached $20k.
Now people are saying $100k in 2020. That means we'll see $50k in 2023 or 2022.
Unless it doesn't
The fundamentals are different now. I've seen die-hard Bitcoin fans sell sub $200 last bear cycle (I have zero respect for those idiots), thinking that maybe Bitcoin is really just a fad and that most people's opinion that there won't be a financial revolution that would threaten established banks.
But now? Everybody agrees cryptocurrencies are here to stay. The question is which ones. Always. What's happening now is just market cycle things, parabolic rises are always accompanied with gut-wrenching crashes.
Could not agree more. Context is everything. The average Joe of the world has heard about Bitcoin in 2018, it was not the case back in 2014. Most governments of the richest countries either banned or "monitor closely" Bitcoin right now, before they did not care much (but why Bitcoin was allowed to exist in the first place is a bit of a mystery to me...).
It's of course possible to make money now, but just don't expect crazy rises as it happened last year.

EDIT:

Whales waiting for ETF in September anyway

they'll try to pump as usual, hoping for the average Joe to buy because every news channel will talk about the rise of BTC, a scenario we've seen countless of times.
We will see pumps 2 or 3 times in September, and if the ETF is accepted it should be epic

Current mood: pessimism.

But maybe I'm wrong... hopefully.
Anyway, who cares about 2018, right? What happens in 2019 is what's interesting.
Kept observing the price for months now and unfortunately it would make total sense to me . Hope I am wrong too.

Looks like symmetric triangle, logic would be that since we come from a downtrend the trend should continue in this direction

Hoping to be wrong.

I can smell manipulation, a boss who wish a leverage x100 to get the jackpot. Can not predict such a thing !!

when i was a laborer, i noticed no one faked anything, we were all just ourselves. once i graduated to office jobs, thats when i noticed the fakers.
It's very obvious for those who did both kind of jobs...
Back on topic: The price is stabilizing today, we noticed the triangle and that price movement was predicted by that.
We overtook $ 6,600 and then $ 6,800. Then the price corrected but remains above $ 6,600.
If all go well, we should hit $ 7000 several times before we finally overtake that price. And if we break $ 7000, then I see no major difficulty to reach $ 8000.

By the way, earlier I was mentioning about price manipulation with USDT. What is interesting is to see that the price started to rise on Bitifinex:
The incident occurred at 1:00 UTC, when BTC leaped from $ 6,466 to $ 6,745 during a single-minute candle on Bitfinex, and bitcoin price went up, then to $ 6,899 before settling back down to a value of $ 6,840 at 1:34 UTC.Indeed, the "abnormal" purchase orders in USDT which are observed are mainly on this platform.
In short, we do not care. All I know is that visibly the whales have decided to pump again. Despite the manipulation, we can always use the chart analysis to find the different supports, resistance and how far they are able to raise the price. For me, we should go higher than $ 8500. Probably $ 9,500 or $ 10,000 because if you look carefully the bottom we had was at $ 6,200, higher than the previous $ 5,700.

Fingers crossed.

Well we had an "okayish" day yesterday, which means that we are basically doing red green green red green and all at the same range 6200 - 6500 so now please let's break the 7k price... because I am getting a little tired of these candles, I hope we will overtake 6800 by tonight, or at least settle above 6600.

Bitcoin perfume already exists. We are now waiting for Ripple toilet water with the smell of burnt wool.

That's an interesting analogy.
For many, things go like this: BTC is beautiful, everyone likes it, everyone wants it, it does not look very smart, it can be expensive, and you have to ask one thing at a time.
XRP: It looks like a pretty woman, from far away she looks attractive, and she sings well, we are captivated, and when she invites us to join her we go for it, but once in her arms we feel disappointed, even shameful, but we refuse to see the obvious and invite more people to join her, we don't want to be alone in this crap.
BCH: born bastard from a not consenting woman, a woman abused by her parents, sold to the Albanian Mafia, she gives birth to children who will hate her later on and who will end up dead or in jail.
ETH: A little imaginary, but very real in our minds, born of a dreamy little genius, this woman hides a certain talent, we love her for her magic and not for her beauty, she keeps surprising us so we join to know a little more, and it is obvious that a curious and noble crowd gather at her bedside.

Does bitcoin have not already suffer enough?
you guys think bitcoin will go to the 1000s?
Yes. Sell everything now.
he already did @6480 (if he had coins and didn't lie about it) so why being bothered with it....... "n00b style"
He could have sold at 6480 and bought back at 7000 or something, it's not like people must write everything they do on this forum 24/7.

Probably the Brexit is the only way to solve this ;-)
lets hope more country's will follow this good example and exit as well....
Never understood why so many people support the idea of an European Union, it's so easy to brainwash people. You just need to look at some "independent" countries in Europe, such as Switzerland, to understand European nations do not need the EU. Most important thing is to have your own currency. Iceland would be dead now if it agreed to be in the € zone.
The EU is great for big companies, not so much for the average Joe, at least in Western Europe.

Still trying to figure out why this collapse. It was in a range of $6000 to $7000 for a while, I guess the resistance at $5800? But that's still a massive drop without any fundamental to explain it. At least last year each collapse was "explained" by some Chinese news or platform hacking, lately nothing notable happened

There are several reasons for that.
1. Whales possesing over 100K bitcoins are the main reason we are here now. One of them - the impostor Craig Wright posted a tweet that he doesn't care if Bitcoin will drop to 1000$ (I am not sure that this is his actual tweeter account, but anyway) and sold massively in order to pump his 'child' the bcash fork SV.
2. Several days after the support was broken, it was announced that bakkt will be postponed due to some remarks from CFTC regarding safety of warm and cold wallets. This smells to me like an insider info.
3. Most of the traders are ignorant to the potential of bitcoin. They can only watch diagrams. They compare the diagrams of 2018 and 2014 and act according to the similarities there.
There are other reasons - market manipulation related to tether (some use this gap to trade with 2-3% profit), futures, miners hash war (bankruptcy of some mean more bitcoins for others), the refusal for ETF, etc. But bitcoin overcome many such periods. I am confident it will overcome this also. We just need more time to start doubling again. I expect the next bull run to start either with the approval of bakkt/ETF or 6-9 months before the next halvening.
Thanks for posting, I was actually seeing the whales as the only reason of a massive drop. Regarding SV, it's not going anywhere up at the moment, but perhaps next year (would not mind it if I can get the coins but that's a different issue).
Been observing BTC price everyday since April (because of my job) and the down trend seems to be caused by sole traders (or whales). Not good, guess an ETF could make things interesting again.
Google searches for Bitcoin 2009 -2018

Not sure if this picture makes me feel better or not, because we are damn close to break the support (or whatever it is) on the way down.

Some quality TA

Very simplistic but I like it better than the chart I saw yesterday about Bitcoin google searches.
On a more serious note, I seriously doubt the price will ever go back below 2K, or if it does then I'm afraid it is the end for Bitcoin. For now I am confident it is a good time to buy more coins.

Posted on Bitstamp Twitter account: "Bitcoin has proven to be very robust. Since it was launched on 3. January 2009, the network has been up and running 99.993% of the time. That’s just around 6 hours of downtime in a span of over 9 years.".

I thought we will bump on the cloud (Between $139 and $140), but it is not very thick. Let's see how we go from there.
Also worth checking the RSI. The RSI is clearly under-bought (or over-sold), weather wise the Ichimoku cloud shows a nice rise. Confident today
