Life as a bitcoin whale manipulator with tons of fiat and bitcoins

- place a new giant bidwall lower than previous supporting wall, where you want the price to go
- take a big whale dump on bids and get more fiat while minnows poop lower priced coins into your low wall
- Put a new bid wall at a higher price and watch the minnows panic buy, now you got more fiat, more coins

I get it. Yet I've fallen for it so many times.

So is that why they call it a whale?  Like Humpback whales do the same thing with air bubbles...blowing a ring around krill and driving them up to the surface to eat them...

Don't think its that nuanced. More like because whales are big, and manipulators are big in the wallet.

This board is so bullish its amazing. A testimony to bitcoin indeed.

I don't know to make of it. On one hand, all this bullish sentiment should mean that we haven't capitulated yet.

But I know that's not a complete picture.

Well this is a Bitcoin forum, kind of makes sense that the majority of people here would want Bitcoin to succeed. And to a large majority of them, success means higher prices, regardless of what TA would suggest sentiment should be.

Plus the amount of troll posts in this thread is over 9000. I think it has driven a few "normal" Bitcoin folks crazy.

It's a good exit strategy. Not sure how long this rally will last. He's not trying to catch the peak

You know that's how I felt in fall 2011.

I hated these fucking idiot-sellers who just didn't understand the potential of bitcoin and thought it was dead.

Then I bought at $2.50 at the bitcoin conference in Prague (only €150, but hell, it's good enough in hindsight).

The market pretty much bottomed out around that time too (end of Nov-ish), it would be nice if that was the case now as well.

Looking back to then I only bought 1 bitcoin at $2.51 thinking it was going sub $1. Ended up panic buying when it doubled to $5 by the end of year.

I wonder if you could actually find some of these experts you find so hilarious. Can you or any of the trolls find at least two people who predicted $10K coins, who now say the price doesn't matter.

 - the difference between Doge and Bitcoin is that there isn't a cap to the total number of Dogecoins created,
whereas Bitcoin will only ever have a max of 21m coins (unless the protocol changes).

Its nothing to do with the protocol - if it were then there may be some guarantees that this 21m cap will be concrete.

No, its simply an arbitrary value ( actually - its an 'operand') in the code that can be changed at any time without having any effect on previous, existing or future transactions.
So, in otherwords, where most 'protocol' changes would, at the very least, require a "hard fork", the change in the cap to 22M or 42M or infinite cap could be made in the next minor version release.

I dont know where people who are supposed to understand these things get the idea of a hard limit to bitcoin. Its only a 'guide' or estimate. It can change once enough people want it.

Its just one line of code!!

If someone was to change this "one line of code" if definitely would be considered a "hard fork", regardless of consensus from the core devs. You need 50% plus 1 among the miners to decide to follow. Minor version releases are minor because they don't contain any controversial changes, not because of the amount of work or line changes that were made.

Definition of hard fork is:
Quote
A hard fork is any change to a protocol that is not backwards compatible.
This would very definitely be backwards compatible. A

So how exactly would the current version of Bitcoin accept the creation of the 21000001st bitcoin?

Quote from: Pieter Wuille on September 24, 2011, 02:37:03 AM
Yes, you can easily change the code to modify the coin-introduction function.

However, if you did, all your blocks would be ignored by people that use the original client, and more importably, you'd ignore theirs, effectively separating you in a different network with all those who run your modified client.

What guarantees are there that the supply will be limited? The fact that the community has agreed on accepting bitcoin's rules, which dictate how many coins are introduced.

Whats the point of arguing the semantics anyway. It's not gonna happen, FUD or whatever you are doing is a little pathetic.

You are confusing an attack by a rogue client and an accepted consensus. Im talking about an ageement o change the cap being possible. If it was accepted by the community, then there is no difficulty in raising the cap.

As an aside, coins are not numbered. There is no serial number. They simply exist as the inputs and outputs of a transaction. Your line about "introducing the 210000001st coin" leads me to believe you dont actually understand this.

Any Fear is purely your own. Im only stating some points about the 21m cap that was mentioned earlier.

Ughhh, I hate that I got suckered into feeding a troll.

Of course if there is community consensus to change the cap it would happen, it could also go the other way down to a 18 million cap, they could do anything with community acceptance. Its a pointless point to make.

As far as not understanding how bitcoin works, I don't have any desire to prove this to you, you can believe whatever you want.

If you can't get the answer you are looking for from the Pieter Wuille quote I included, you are being deliberately obtuse, and I have no need to interact with you further.

Troll being anyone who has a different view to you?  Huh

My point all along is that the cap is NOT concrete - which you have now agreed with. Yet many of the predictions of grand wealth with bitcoins are predicated on this fallacy.

The Pieter Wuille quote was irrelevant for the reason I stated - He is talking about rogue attacks, Im talking about consensual change.

You have already proven you have at best a sketchy understanding of how it works with your "21 millionth bitcoin" statement.

Wow straight from the troll talking points rebuttal book "Troll being anyone who has a different view to you?"

Fine, you're not a troll, you're just an asshole.

You obviously know 21 million is as concrete as anything in Bitcoin, the fact that the code can change it with consensus is at most a red herring by you. Otherwise you have already proven you have at best a sketchy understanding of how the Bitcoin community works.

Name calling now eh?  You are only becoming angry because you believe in the triumph of unbounded hope over reality.
I'm just your 'memento mori', reminding you that bitcoin may not make you the millionaire you hope to be.

Again, my original point was that the future value of bitcoin is being predicated to a large extent on the 21m cap, a belief based on faith more than reality.

I'm not angry (well not with you at least). I don't need Bitcoin to make me a millionaire, and I sure as hell don't need you to talk me down from some unbounded hope.

Reality is Bitcoin is always going to have a 21m cap. If that changes it won't effect the price negatively, otherwise it won't happen. Future value already accounts for the slim possibility of a cap increase, its priced in, and no one believes it will happen.

Time for lunch, welcome to ignore, sorry if I hurt your feelings calling you a name.

Its crazy sig campaigns can earn people that much. Back in 2012 I made about 1 BTC over the course of the year just doing those free daily bitcoin sites where you had to solve a captcha to get like 0.0015 BTC every couple hours.

I'm calling Bitcoin post count parity some time in 2024. Whether that Bitcoin be BTC, BCH, or SV is an open question.

I think the next FOMO pile-in is going to make evident to the world the weaknesses of the Core-ian approach to scaling. The other forks (hewing more closely to Satoshi's inspired design) will be there to pick up the slack.

Incidentally, while BTC is up 14+% in the last 24 hours, BCH is up over 27% in the same time frame.

Yes, SV is lagging at 11+%. ::sigh::

When I was younger my parents used to make me take my little sister and brother with me to play in the neighborhood. Everywhere I went they went as well (just a little smaller).

Don't know why this reminded me of that Wink

Alts may be jumping, but don't worry its inevitable that big daddy Bitcoin is going to stride up to your table and just lay massive dong. All the twitter boys will pump those alt gains back to Bitcoin as they stare in disbelief.

  • legendary vs. full member vs. Hero Member
  • how Activity is calculated
  • What merit is, how to get it, why can i only send some of mine?

Part of figuring out the answers is recognizing the questions.  You go, plastic!!!!

It sure feels like we're gaining ground at settling over $5,000 for the longterm.

Bitcoin is not ready to say goodbye to sub 5000. We will most likely even see sub 4000 in the summer. After that $5000+ Bitcoin will be sure things.

Wishful thinking. Your bags are clearly not full yet so you'd like to see sub $5k prices. Not gonna happen. Feels very much the same as trolls predicting $1700-2500 bottom few months (weeks?) ago. Where are they now?  Cool

Oh they are around. Head on over to the  /r/bitcoinmarkets/ daily thread. It's 'bear this', 'not enough pain that', over there. Smiley

Have they even fkn looked at Chipotle's 10 yr price chart? Holy smokes. Talk about not understanding its valuation! I wouldn't touch that stock with a hundred foot pole.   Huh

I was so close to buying Chipotle stock when they IPOed. I likely would have done better than putting $40k into SAIC.

Buying a Chicken Burrito from Chipotle today sounds good. Thanks for the idea guys.

Ok, some n00bs on stamp are willing to hit the sell button with 20% discount. Just in time for most of us to BTFD. For me the most important thing is the signal that Bitcoin can recover from 3K to 9K in weeks. I have no fear at all about dips and crashes. So no matter how hard bears try, they won't convince the investors aka hodlers to sell anything. The time of the bears has ended. So, I have an open letter: Dear bears, if you are willing to sell every day with 20% discount down to 6K, just call me. I will buy your coins right now for 6K, why wait?

I can’t remember whose joke it was but somebody said on here a while back -

Damn, I need some nachos for that fucking dip I just bought.

Made me laugh any way.

With a pic, remember that as well......

It was me. I de-lurked for a bit back then and went crazy with a couple posts.  Smiley

Its times like these that put hair on your chest boys. Hopium, delusional, whatever.

Some people are always convinced the end Bitcoin is just around the corner. That there is nothing we can do but accept it. That believing the opposite is ripe for ridicule, that you are some sort of flake.

Some times the people are so certain, and the environment is so convincing, that you can't but help get swept up and carried away, questioning everything you believed.

But these are the times you will be glad you held firm, glad you held to your convictions that Bitcoin can and will survive this momentary test of wills. Like it has multiple times over that last decade, this too shall pass, and that big green shot to a brighter day will be that much sweeter, that much more rewarding.

We've been on this journey together for years now, do want you must to survive, but know this is still just the beginning of amazing times.

One needs a good deal of darmklachten to put up with this verlakkerij.

Haha if someone knows what  V8 is meaning in here, would be impressive ......... Be quiet Hairy.

verlakkerij = fuckery iirc

darmklachten = Huh - unsure but its probably another word worth learning.

darmklachten sounds like (darmwinde) gut farts in german Smiley

in german: "pupsen" (softer) / "forzen" (more rude)

EDIT: "r0ach ist ein kleiner Furz" means "r0ach is very less important"
Verlakkerij looks Dutch.
Google Translate detects darmklachten as Dutch for intestinal complaints.  Roach's fuckery gives you indigestion?  But Google translates the German "darm lachten" as "guts laughed", so maybe darmklachten really means belly laugh?
Google Tran says Furz is German and it means fart.  Roach is a little fart.
And to fart is furzen, not forzen.

actually, darmklachten = intestinal complaints
^
This is the correct one....

I got hot snakes and bubble gut.

No you're right. But you don't have to worry about it. It's rather a good news in fact, I hope it will be enforced heavily.

The idea is that you can be taxed ONLY if you sell the result of the fork. If there is a fork and you don't do anything with the coins then nothing is taxable.

How is it a good news? Well it decreases the incentive of a fork. Because tons of people won't get the new coins, knowing they will be taxed.

Hence less shitcoins and less forks.

I hope you're right but their FAQ says:

Quote
If a hard fork is followed by an airdrop and you receive new cryptocurrency, you will have taxable income in the taxable year you receive that cryptocurrency.

So what does receive mean in that sentence? Because I technically could say I have Bitcoin Gold, though I've never downloaded their wallet, nor imported my private keys into it. But I had Bitcoins in actual Bitcoin addresses at the time of the Gold fork. When do/did I "receive" the Bitcoin Gold? Do I already have them? Not until I sell them like you interpret? Do I have to backfile my 2017 taxes if I sell the fork now as income then, plus pay the capital gains? Can I argue at the time of the fork the chain had no value and thus there was no actual income?

It's all so stupid.

I think Bitcoin and many top coins will find competition difficult against establishment. I think Bitcoin is vastly overvalued.

I also think that in 5 years from now, Google, Darpa or Boston Dynamics will have paired autonomous robots with an AGI powered chain using concept of Ethereums original design. I could be a boon to society much more impactful than industrial revolution.
...
Bitcoin is already owned by the old establishment so using it for decentralized and libertarian reasons is a bit redundant. It's a good vehicle of gambling and speculation, so enjoy your continued debate, I think it is looking at -90% market cap reduction to be more inline with top

All those trolls are in my ignore list to this day, with kwukduck at the top. Back then I used to think these people were getting paid to troll. And now at this point I'm somewhat convinced these russian/chinese troll farms that are used to sway social media got their start in the Bitcoin community.
