And exactly how safe would you feel with a sizeable balance sitting in a bank in Slovenia, waiting to trade ?
Bitstamp actually uses one of the larger italian banks, called UniCredit. but you are right, no bank in europe is actually "safe".

My Euro transfer went to Slovenia. Do they then transfer it to a USD account in Italy ?
no. unicredit just operates in many countries. check their website, i'm not an expert. just telling you that this is not one of the smaller banks

Looks to me that tops are trending lower and support holding at 110. Could this develop into a channel or will the depth squeeze be resolved with a break upwards or downwards?
If this correct it will go down.

We either have a correction NOW to $130ish, or we break $160 and then ATH is very close
it's already above 156.
.5 mio USD to go below 150 and more than enough down to 130. so, 160 when us east cost wakes up is entirely possible.

Can't these graphs be reduced in size to maybe like 66% or 75%? I mean, damn they be very huge and very numerous.
there was already a change to default to 100% width. in the earlier days, the width was not set and ended up at about 2000px or more. that was huge. so please be quiet and enjoy the scrolling.

hm? there shouldn't be a need to scroll (horizontally)

for me the images fit the width of the post box, no scrolling needed.

Someone mentioned they'd like to see 3d charts a while back so I had a try to see how they'd look. 2 hours ago:
Obviously, it's a work in progress. Thoughts?
Nice work, very cool

How big a step would it be to animate this so we could visibly see walls moving in 3D ? That would be ubercool
Dare I say it, but it would be bit like a ripple

It could be done but not really in a way that could be posted as an image in this thread. Maybe as a flash thing or something?
there is canvas 3d, that's currently the best solution you can try.
http://threejs.org/ is a lib you will wanna have a look at, too.

can we agree to stop this awful 3d on 2d wall postings? a much more better solution would be a flat 2d plot, where the colors mark the height of the walls over time on both sides. same color means same height.
and in case nobody wants to plot this quickly in matplotlib, where can i get the raw wall height data over time? is there a good source?

The Bitcoin market is more polar.
i.e.

Depending on the frequency of steps in the polar graph.
I've mastered Bitcoin trading with this pattern.....

you can plot a slight variation over the complex plane in a much more insightful way:

code in Sage:
var('x y'); complex_plot((x*sin(2 * x^2)^3), (x,-2,2), (y, -2, 2), plot_points=300)

That's simply a 3D graph, why is that so hard to understand?
pseudo 3d on a 2d screen is the worst invention ever. the chart should be a (sort of) 2d matrix, where the height of the bars is indicated by a color coding. color-bar on the side as a legend tells you the amounts, that's all.

Market indicators do not suggest right now an imminent drop, on the contrary,
yes, ok, i see it similar. in the end of july we had a rise from 93 to 111. with a decreasing volume of buys. now the consolidation without much action. last day, maybe starting with the weekend, we see increasingly more volume for buys, and we are about to break the one week height of ~108. 3k left, and this will certainly be re-tested.

I watch the amount of coins needed to go down to $80 and as the price was sliding yesterday it dropped to around 44k coins, then it suddenly jumped to the 60k mark, so a good 16k+ coins appeared all at the same time basically. From my watching, $90 used to be about 5k and went up to 12k and a 1k wall became 5k at $91, so about 11k coins went on $91 and $90. At the time we were only about 2-3k coins down to $100 so most of the rest went to bulk up the $100 wall by about 3k and the most of the rest went around $101 and $102. That's pretty much all of it accounted for, but we did slowly slide down from 60k coins to $80 down to 44k, then suddenly back to 60k in an instant, so it's down to 1 person i'd say.
man! you deserve a badge "hero wall observer"

about the gox vs. stamps vs. btcchina comparisons:
has anyone thought about plotting 1 day of activity of these three exchanges, in the same plot, starting at the same day -- but where the graphs start at 0% for all of them and hence show the relative movements of the price? that would answer these questions once and for all for each day where something happens. bonus: stacked bar charts for the volume at the bottom.

To rationally decide to not buy a lot of bitcoins, you have to explain why it is impossible for Bitcoin to replace fiat (as a store of value, at least). Because I think it is almost inevitable, just like all the other new technologies that just were better than the previous way of doing things.
you are right, one aspect nevertheless: there could be a successor to bitcoin in its current form ... then it's clear that everyone will jump ship. i think, quite a few of those who have "missed" bitcoin so far think, that they'll simply wait for this new incarnation and hold back their investment.

This isn't like a public company, where the market cap is approximately the price to buy the entire company. You cannot buy all the bitcoins.
You also cannot by the entire company by their shares. E.g. if I had a GOOG share and I don't sell it, you can jump around as much as you want and you won't get it.
