Actual quote:
"Customer funds stored in Coinbase USD Wallets are held with an FDIC-insured financial institution."
To me, that means "If the
bank goes bankrupt, FDIC will make your deposit whole. If Coinbase somehow loses your money, Sorry."
Where did you see "BTC is privately insured"?
The BTC has been privately insured since November 2013 and is old news :
https://exchange.coinbase.com/https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1662379-how-is-coinbase-insured-It is the USD held on the exchange that is FDIC insured that is new and unique
p.s..... of course if your girlfriend steals your password and phone to perform 2fa and steal your BTC you won't be covered. May not even be covered under such circumstances with Fiat either.

I know we are correcting now, but is there some explanation /theory/news for the last 24h rally?
People purchased based upon the expectation of the great news from coinbase.
The fact that a FDIC insured and regulated exchange in the US with over 1million usable accounts to start has opened with 0 trading fees instead of 1% like before is a big deal. The fact that we will be able to use coinbase to set limit orders and trade at 0-0.25% instead of 1% is a big deal. The fact that no other exchange offers FDIC for usd balances is a big deal.

Ah, shifting the goal posts. Nice.
How do they work differently? Both have to hop through the same regulatory hoops.
Does kraken currently have over 1 million unique users that can use the exchange?
Does kraken have FDIC insurance on usd balances?
Does Kraken currently have 0 fees?

"Coinbase is insured against employee theft and hacking in an amount that exceeds the average value of
online bitcoin it holds at any given time."
I.e. only their hot wallet is insured, not the client deposits
Yes usd client deposits are indeed insured but with FDIC-
https://support.coinbase.com/customer/portal/articles/1780543FDIC Insurance
Customer funds stored in Coinbase USD Wallets are held with an FDIC-insured financial institution.
BTC is privately insured , USD is FDIC insured.

"FDIC Insurance"
"Customer funds stored in Coinbase USD Wallets are held with an FDIC-insured financial institution. "
Yes, I read that. But read it carefully. Does it say "Customer USD balances are insured by the FDIC", or does it say something else?
If the funds are held in a FDIC insured institution they are insured by the FDIC up to 250k. I already spoke to one of their customer service reps to clarify.

Does that number apply to each and every customer's funds separately or to the funds in general? 250k in general would be quite a rip-off, but 250k per customer is a nice starting point. Maybe not enough for Wall Street, but still a good thing!
FDIC covers 250k per depositor or user per institution/bank. When you visit wallstreet you will notice that many atm receipts on the sidewalk show close to 250k balances (used to see many 90-95k balances before FDIC was increased) specifically because the wealthy know how to limit their liability and spread their funds around many banks to insure everything is insured. Expect the same with coinbase and gemini(when it opens).
Those that don't realize this , simply discount coinbase as just another exchange without realizing the full implications. The US is filled with millionaires needing another bank to park their cash into that is insured and what they can invest in.
Now that the NYSE is involved with coinbase and it is FDIC insured they won't mind diversifying their portfolios further. Another matter that is not being fully appreciated is the marketing power coinbase has by having not just those big VC companies backing them but the NYSE itself. Any user that things bitcoin is a ponzi or passing fad can be reminded that the NYSE disagrees with them. It is no longer BTC vs USD or BTC vs the SP500 , because BTC has been approved by the insiders. This may not immediately translate into a huge amount of new users but will have a profound effect in the coming months .

Coinbase on CNBC, apparently they have 2 million customers.
MtGOX had more than 1 million customers, but the leaked database showed that only ~70'000 were minimally active.
We don't expect Coinbase to provide more meaningful data than any other bitcoin enterprise, do we?
Impossible to know of course.
Im just relaying what was said to someone who asked, jheeze...
Since they raised 106 million from 37 VC companies who most did their due diligence we know that those numbers cannot be faked.
https://www.coinbase.com/aboutStats
1,900,000 Users
2,200,000 Wallets
38,000 Merchants
7,000 Developer Apps
No way to know how many of those 1.9 million(now 2 ) are active vs just sitting on some milibits.

Better to remove the content of known trolls, like above, so you don't force those ignoring them to read it with a quote.
Bear trap still in effect.

I will buy goods, products and then convert to fiat if necessary, but in the long run hoping we will not need fiat at all
Fiat is a good traditional step after salt/dyes/shells as a currency. In the future our great grand children will be horrified we trusted or even used
such a flaky and unstable antique PoS pre-mined oligarch form of currency.

I can't help but question the mentality of people who are selling under $300. Essentially BTC just got an official approval from US. Kinda hard to claim that an asset is a ponzi or a pyramid when it's licensed, trading in NY, and backed by NY stock exchange

Those people are either day traders who seek to profit on volatility regardless of price or trolls misrepresenting themselves. (throw in an occasional person desperate who lost their job , or has a nasty drug habit to feed as well)
But yes, I agree with your premise.... I'll be surprised if I don't see 400-600 in a few months.

I think about to get my coins out of the paper wallet back to bitstamp. I need to do some trading because I bought at 700 and 800 and it looks like we wont see that price range again. Maybe I will be lucky if I sell now and buy back at $150 next week

But do you guys think Stamp is safe at the moment? I mean for a few weeks. When I´m done, Ill put the coins back to a paper wallet or sell them and cash out.
You are making a tremendous mistake.
First rule is you never sell your bitcoins for a loss, unless you are a whale and can shake the weaker hands.

Everyone, I present to you: Altcoin trolls. Finally migrated here. This is the final nail in the coffin for this thread and possibly forum. Goodnight, sweet.
This thread is fine. I see no trolls. Learn to use the ignore button and life will get pleasant as they waste their time.
Suggestion : Do not ignore those you disagree with or dislike but those who repeatedly make asinine statements and waste your time.
As a rule of thumb I only ignore someone when I see them make multiple crazy/trollish comments as not to block many false positives.

Sure. Keep telling yourself that everything is looking great and this is anything else than a useless pump and dump coin being raped by traders.
Cannot be raped if we never sell for a loss. If Bitcoin fails than we lose everything but we are willing to take that risk in completing this experiment, otherwise
being a dis-inflationary currency we will eventually see a reversal in 2016 at the latest.
Your attempts at manipulating the market or trolling will not work on many of us sir.

By 2016 nobody is using this useless slow coin anymore. Tons of alt coins out there are better than Bitcoin. And seeing how Bitcoin adoption is greatly slowing down every day there will be no reason to use it anymore by the end 2015.
But go ahead and keep buying thinking we will go the moon. I'll be here to enjoy the show.
So you have sold all your BTC and purchased alts? What Alts have you purchased?

Because they don't give a shit about Bitcoin. They invested in a company. If another coin takes over Coinbase will simply switch to that one.
If you would stop being so delusional and face the fact that the coins you bought at 800 will always be a loss then you can start thinking clear again and look less like an idiot.
Your comment would make sense if all VC capital was pouring into agnostic payment processors . In reality millions are also pouring into Asic manufacturers and mining companies which tech is specific to bitcoin and PoW.
Go through the list of over 528 million in VC capital and see for yourself :

You're completely delusional.
I spent 1 minute looking at your post history, looks like you may be bitter because you tried to sell drugs with bitcoin at one time but failed running a business and had to shut it down.
Hopefully you won't give up so quickly , and keep trying to be successful in the future rather than trolling people in this thread.
Best of luck in the future.

P.S... I love how you are calling other people delusional when you are such a huge supporter of psychedelics

Why does everyone keep quoting the troll?
Yes, I typically don't do that , but being he is using a hero members account I am more apprehensive about placing older users on my ignore list. Looks like some bitcoin hater that has admitted to purchasing/ or taking over someone else s account just to troll. What a loser. He is now ignored and I will stop quoting him... I recommend others do the same too.

Today, 24 hours ago, 7 days ago and one month ago, the price of one Bitcoin has been the same: 420USD
Incredibly stable....Is there some whale pothead trolling us by keeping the price around 420?
