Could it be that the Bitcoin popularity arrived at a bad time? I mean this year the price surged and many people became aware of Bitcoin but looking at the infraestructure that surrounds Bitcoin you can see that it is still in its infancy so I imagine many people who got interested in it at first also got dissapointed when they found all the trouble trading with Bitcoins entails, all the technical stuff surrounding it and the kind of shadyness of many of the services surrounding the virtual coin. For example the noobishness of some of the big exchanges. I can't help but feel that the hype was somehow kind of wasted because of all these problems. Maybe later when the infraestructure is more mature people will adopt it faster and it will become a much bigger phenomenon. What do you think?

Overall sentiment is changing in a bearish direction,
very quickly all over this forum. From people expecting a crash from rising too fast, to Mike Hearns, Coin Validation, etc. The writing is on the wall. All it takes is for a whale or two to want to be first to take some profits. In times like these, in USD I trust.
You're forgetting about the chinese. Once they wake up this thing will go up again because they don't really care about any of that.

No dont get discouraged. Butter bot threads full of people with success ... But if you look through the help the OP gives, you have to do your back testing and make sure you set the values to what other people that are successful with. I'm pretty new to this all too, but when I calibrated one of the bitcoincharts using EMA 9/20 and a
HOURLY sample, it appeared to be giving a pretty solid sell signal. But, if you notice, most people using the butter bot have it set to
2 hour intervals. When you go to the same chart and set it to 2 hours, the lines don't converge.. D'OH! Don't forget golden rule of trading is you'll win some and lose some...Just try to win MORE when you win

. When you get the bot configured right, you should have more positive experience.
thanks for the suggestion

. I think i'm leaving the bot alone until I get a hang of this first.

I see this mistake a lot -- confusing adoption with first encounter. We are at the early majority for people learning about the existence of bitcoin, but the very very very very early adopter stage as useful technology.
Yes, adoption is what will really bring the price up not awareness and for that we need for bitcoin to be a success as a technology and not just as a toy for speculators.

All people calling bitcoin a tulip craze don't realize that one of the main differences between both phenomenons is that the tulip craze was not supported by a worldwide digital platform called the internet. I mean the internet seems to be causing a qualitative effect on several phenomenons once they reach a quantitative peak thanks to the ease of interaction the internet provides. Look at the Arab spring, what seemed like a regular discontent or protest that wouldn't achieve much managed to topple whole governments. In my opinion this day and age we are witnessing very nice examples on how quantitative changes lead to qualitative ones thanks to the internet. So trying to predict what will happen to bitcoin using a phenomenon which happened centuries ago without having something like the internet to support it is not very accurate IMO.

Since I trade on btce I found it wise to inform myself a little bit about altcoins since the value of btc there apparently is greatly affected by them. The one that caught my attention and interest is definitely peercoin above the others. I've always thought that bitcoins main flaw is that they can be accumulated by few parties which will function as a central authority in the end, with peercoin this problem is addressed pretty elegantly. I think bitcoin has many years of success still but I think a coin like peercoin is much more futureproof and has a better chance at becoming stable and useful for a decentralized market. Anyways, I just bought my first 20 peercoins, although I won't get rid of my bitcoins of course.

And why didn't you write there that it's a brain wallet? If the phrase is too simple, it's easily cracked. OK, let's close it here for now because of off-topic. But why move it to reddit (I don't have an account there and don't care to join for now), and not just open a new thread here?
Thanks for caring

I did open a thread here and
one person replied. I corrected it. It is not a brain wallet, but a normal address like the rest in my wallet. I labelled this address "Brain wallet" long ago for reasons unknown, therefore the confusion. I registered on reddit today for this purpose since I'm willing to pursue solving this issue. 0.9 BTC is a significant value for me, so I'm just pursuing my options.
EDIT: Thread here
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=352732.0Invest one btc in ltc. Wait for mtgox to add ltc (they already announced it). Wait for ltc price to double its current price during the bubble. Buy back btc recovering the lost one. And never use those apps you used again

Yes. Fictional works are always a good basis for real-life decisions.
Well Ayn Rand's work, which is the basis for the philosophy of many libertarians I know, is also highly fictional...

No longer fiction. Look at what's happening in Venezuela.
I don't see what is happening in Venezuela as confirmation of Rand's fantasies... Venezuela is just one case but look at Ecuador the state intervention in the economy actually improved the situation considerably for ecuatorians while the opposite happened in Spain... every country is different.

Libertarians do not believe in zero government, that is liberal scare tactics. What libertarians do believe in is limited government covering essential common good services (roads, courts, education (not union education), etc), which today comprises a fraction of the bloated US government.
Depends on the libertarian you talk to I guess... some of them are quite extreme. But I agree the government needs to be more controlling in some places and less in others. Although there's a main flaw in libertarian theory and that is that once a corporation gets big enough it starts controlling economic policy much like a government or central authority so we end up with the same problem.

If they're basing their philosophy on the story, they're doing it wrong.
If the story inspires them to consider the philosophy or they consider it illustrative of the philosophy, that's more like it.
By the way, it's nice that you are happy to pay your taxes if the government spends it well. However, you might want to consider that other people may have different opinions on that or, indeed, what constitutes "spending it well" and taxes are not voluntary.
The problem with that is that if taxes are voluntary then their purpose is pretty much void. I've always been of the idea that there should be countries for every taste. Countries that follow a more libertarian or even comunistic way of government and people should decide where they go to live. The problem is that the world power structures are very intolerant to variety.

Simply said, what China bans in this notice does not exists in any country yet. As far as I know no bank is using bitcoin as a currency in all over the world. Even Germany treats it as a private currency. China just officially announced it. On the other hand, previously exchanges are in gray area but now they have chance to be 'white'.
But didn't China ban it as a currency too? In that case probably the main purpose of bitcoin is void. I'm not saying that's the case but that's what I heard. Banning the banks is moot, who cares? But banning the currency aspect of bitcoin is really not cool.
