China has the largest volume of the lot, and it is going down, slowly but constantly. It has tested the psychological support threshold @ 5000 already 3 times today, and failed to break that dam until now. Will see what happens but honestly the overall scenario is bearish so far.
I agree.
I'm gonna' hold off buying more BitCoins (or more accurately,
fractions of BitCoin) for today and see what happens.

if you need $10k per coin to cover its a huge loss at least %
I don't NEED it, I was just remarking how many posters seem to think it'll get to 10K. In fact, if/when it gets to 1200 I'll MORE than recover those losses, in BitCoin
AND the other coins I have.
Percentage wise yes, total dollar wise no it's not a huge loss. I'm only playing with what I can afford to lose so far and besides, it's a good education.

News like this usually sends the price rocketting.
A Bail-In means Banks will confiscate depositors accounts right? (As Gerald Celente and Max Keiser have been predicting) That will just make Crypto-Currencies that more attractive no?

It makes me sad and pissed off that so many smart people here (me included!) get run over by trading.
I'm interested in putting together some quant tools, some portfolio management and position sizing tools, etc, etc, and working with other people here, so that we can have some education to move us away from gambling towards real wealth creation (a la a hedge fund type system)-- probably in a something like a club, at first. I have to program quite a bit of architecture first, so it's a ways off. The tools would allow us to essentially customize our approaches and handle multiple API's on multiple coins and exchanges. You could say I'm just past the 'napkin drawing' stage.

Would anyone be interested in that sort of thing?

Yes!

Dec 12-16 also looked like it was 'stabilizing'.

What makes you think that new people are here only for profit and not to support great idea which bitcoin is.
Because they bought only after the rally was well under way.
If they believed in Bitcoin they would have bought much earlier. Even if only half of those late buyers are speculators, their holdings must be much more than what shows up in the order books.
Or perhaps they are long time Federal Reserve opponents who only recently found out about BitCoin when it was around $220?
Like me?
Not every new person is a "speculator" though I know there are many.
Don't I WISH I could go back in time and buy BitCoin when it was a penny! Not only for the money, but to get out of Uncle Stupids' Fiat Money System.

Let me guess... Bitcoinity?
It doesn't mean that it is super big just because it is steep and maxes out the graph. 500 coins is not very big.
It was 1,000 a few minutes ago if you zoomed bitcoinity out. That's a laughably large wall for BTC-e, a speedbump most other places. I've traded there for a year and would say most BTC-e traders look at that, chuckle, and say, "I'll come back later."
Yet the price keeps bouncing off that 900 "ceiling".

I'm beginning to doubt this whole thing. Bitcoin isn't anonymous and is actually more traceable than cash, it is actually run by a secretive central core of developers instead of being decentralised, has massive security issues instead of being rock solid technology.
It was never meant anonymous. Bankers can't "QE Infinity" Bitcoin out of all it's value, that's a good thing.
Software Programs continually have updates to improve performance and plug Security holes, does that make you lose faith and stop using them? No.

When the cost per vehicle is around 15K and Charging Stations are everywhere then it MAY be a viable alternative.
What you guys aren't factoring in is the Taxes that will be added as more of us adopt electric car tech. Also the charging price will go up as gov't subsidies are reduced. Will ultimately cost the same or more as everyone pays now. You know it's true.
Cross Country in 76 hours? That's not so fast. I went from California to Maryland in about 4 days in my Truck while pulling a loaded trailer and doing 65 mph MAX. (try THAT with yer little expensive go-cart)

I'm also curious for you to explain to me how the "charging price" of the sun goes up?
What makes you think ANY Government, Federal or State is gonna' do away with long standing fuel taxes? All those taxes we pay on "Fossil Fuels" will be transferred to the so called "Clean Energy Industry" and consumers will be made to pay at the pump (charging station).
Guaranteed.

If I was a gambling man, I would bet large sums of money that you have, throughout your life, used electricity created by burning coal to the extent that it was equivalent to a pound burned (most likely much higher).
No need to gamble; Stanford U. has its own coal-fueled power generation plant in the middle of campus. But the only coal I ever put my hands on was a small chunk that I found on the sidewalk next to that plant, once.
You went to Stanford? No dummy, JorgeStolfi.

You went to Stanford? No dummy, JorgeStolfi.
I went to a University you've probably never heard of.
I did not bring up the topic of my personal life here, others did. For some reason, that topic seems to absolutely fascinate some people here, far more than photos of triple bottoms and dead bulls.
But if you must know, like most Brazilian computer scientists (and many other scientists) of my generation, I got my PhD overseas, paid by a grant from the Brazilian Government; and I was lucky to be acepted at Stanford. So?
I think you misunderstand. I was showing admiration for your Education Level, you'll get neither envy nor jealousy from me. My wife has relatives in Sao Paolo by the way, it's a long story.
And I agree with some others here that if you have no bitcoin then why would your opinion even matter?

From the article:
For currency to be adopted as a medium of exchange there has to be trust in the ability to honor the underlying obligation and the ability for central banking policy to control inflation. Historically the Fed has done a remarkable job maintain an average inflation rate of no greater than 2.5 percent.
Wrong. Just DEAD wrong.
Also, the Privately Owned Federal Reserve Bank has destroyed 98% of the USD value since 1913.

When Bitcoin collapsed to 800 what did I hear? "Too the moon!"
When Bitcoin collapsed to 600 what did I hear? "Too the moon!"
Now that Bitcoin is at 450 what do I hear? "Too the moon!"
You guys are no different than the Aura and Mazacoin crowd: Delusional.

Interesting how the Bots have taken over the BTC trade nowadays. Too precise a rise and fall to be human. I'm guessing the Hedge Fund Managers and Bankers are taking/have taken control.

How long has Bitcoin been at 220-230?
Seems like Bitcoin has been co-opted by the Banking Borg and as a result, its price is being monkey hammered just like Gold and Silver is.

Everyone told me it was going to the moon this time

Yep. And so many people say that when a price goes up sharply then falls on a coin (as Bitcoin just did) that it's because of "Pump and Dump" tactics and that we all are "Bagholders".
Why no such talk here?
