As I said, That's almost a full time obsession and your family feels totally annihilated so I kind of returned to normal family father and don't really have that edge any more.
If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times:
Don't annihilate your family for the sake of bitcoins.

I think the total bid depth on Gox is more surprising than the price. Why is so much money flowing into Gox? Not only are coin prices significantly higher on Gox, but it's practically impossible to get money back out. I really don't get it.
People are in a panic to buy coins, and Mt Gox is easy to find. Selling or even moving the coins is a problem for another day's panic.

Mortgage the house and buy some back. Or get a second loan and buy some back. You will eventually be able to pay of the second loan and still have some coins in case (which there is a decent chance) we get to $100,000 and beyond.
Only on bitcointalk can you find this sort of advice. My goodness.
Debt is so deeply rooted in US folks mentality that it hurts. I really have a simpathy for Bitchick, I'm a long-term bull myself, but came on... To advise someone to get in debt (even worse, to mortgage his house) to buy a high-risk experimental currency is so fucked up it blows my mind. We where speaking about "opportunities you cannot afford to lose"... Well, being in debt or losing your house to gamble is something NOBODY should afford to do.
And that type of mentality leads me to think that eventually BTC will implode sooner than later, people tends to auto-destruction and greed is one of the main mind-fuckers.
Mortgage debt might as well be free right now, and having your entire net worth in a house is even stupider than having your entire net worth in bitcoins.
Bitchick is right.
If he owns nothing but a house he should take out a small enough mortgage that his salary could cover it if need be. The money should be invested in a diversified portfolio that should include some bitcoins. His net worth doesn't change, and he isn't relying on his local real estate market to maintain it.

I told my wife about the party, but she seemed a little too interested in a room full of rich single men.
We won't be attending.
edit: I also figure that if you have to choose between attending a party on the other side of the world and continuing to get rich off bitcoin, you weren't in early enough to deserve to attend.

Enough with this mili, pico, nano denomination story please!
The more you talk about it the more people will consider shorting.
I am also getting kind of tired of this debate. Who cares how somebody advertises the price of a cup of coffee as long as it's clear? If I see a car for sale for 25.5K, or if my rent is thirteen hundred dollars, I don't wonder for even a second what that means. Let the users of bitcoin settle on terminology themselves.
I will just add that I think of my investments roughly in increments of $1000, so it is nice to see exchanges denominated in bitcoins rather than mB. I don't think that the default bitcoin unit needs to be on the same order of magnitude as $1. That seems arbitrary to me.

This was funny the first time I saw it, and for the last couple of days it has been mildly annoying.
Now, I cling to it. Every time I consider selling, I check the price on Bitcoinity, and I am reassured.

In other meta news: with the change to the newbie policy, we've seen a great increase in genuinely trollish/FUD threads and a decrease in high-quality posts. I hope that the forum administrators will revisit their policies, perhaps even disallowing members below a certain activity level from starting threads.
+1 Newbie purgatory wasn't much fun, but it didn't last long and it didn't stop me from lurking the rest of the forum. This forum was a better read when there were fewer disposable accounts.

just because the wax melts, do you throw away the design of the wing?
If it is good enough for Icarus it's good enough for me. It is way more fun to shoot at the sun with fresh wax wings every six months than it would be to slowly climb the long term trend.
Not sure that flying too close to the sun is the best metaphor to sell an emerging technology though.

anyone reading this, there is nothing more important than your family, try balancing your life, because looking at that screen or discussing Bitcoin all day long is simply not going to change the output of things, at the end if the price will go up, it will, and if it will go down, it will... and you have nothing to do about that (except if you hold 100K BTC or 100 million dollars).
Yes.
Your team will win or lose whether or not you watch the game. Bitcoin will go up or down whether or not you are watching it.
You Canadians, get out there and spend some Thanksgiving with your families this weekend.

even if some engine can convert heat into electricity maybe by peltier, i dont think its economically feasible to do .
Nitinol springs that operate with heat difference, would probably be veeeery economically feasible.
It doesn't matter what technology you use. Unless your miner operates at 500 C, the amount of electricity you can generate is very small.
Even boiling coolant water could at best give you 25% energy recovery, even with a perfect system.

You can use SEPA, OKpay, etc. The exchange is just starting, but it has lots of potential. At least, it is impossible to take down.
ELI5 who I wire actual irl money to, and why it won't get stolen immediately.
1) The bitcoins are programmed to be released only when two of three people agree that the money has been received.
2) When the money gets to your bank account you and the buyer release your coins.
3) If you lie about it, the buyer and a random aribitrator release your coins.
Not sure that I would trust it... but seems legit.

Did this with a SEPA transfer on bitquick once. The guy sent me 180 euro. I saw the transfer go through to my account. I released the bitcoins.
2 days later my bank calls me and says the person's account that sent me the money was hacked and that they needed to refund the 180 euro. Nothing I could do at that point.
Reading through their whitepaper this morning I see things like "transaction limit of 1 bitcoin" listed as security features, so I am pretty skeptical. Still, chargebacks are possible with e-Bay and yet things work. Perhaps a reputation system will make it all work in the end, or maybe a bunch of people will be scammed for a ton of money. How exciting to find out!
