Buy low. Sell high. Don't get greedy.
Keep in mind that the time honored way to make a small fortune has been to start with a large one. So think twice before risking your capital.
ok thanks. Will do that.

limited amount of coins being sold and someone else having an order ahead of you would be my best guess.
so that's possible on gox even if my coins are cheaper than the others?

I doubt he's hurting for money to the point that he'd seek out a bizarre way to manipulate markets like that.
Doing a good job as PayPal president pretty much precludes doing sketchy shit like pump/dumping new cryptos.
Imagine the fallout if he created a huge competitor because he'd been trying to make a quick buck for himself.
thanks for your opinion. i had never been to other exchanges before i entered bitcoin trading and this whole ups and downs is driving me crazy. now i believe that bitcoin is like a drug -- hallucinogen, depressant and stimullant

Looks like another FUD wave coming too, the EU warning is morphing into 'EU wants to ban bitcoin' and the energy usage has sprung up again. Pure FUD because when mining tops out it will come down to electricity costs and non renewables can't compete with renewable energy at that point. Mining will drive innovation and investment of renewable energy and sit on the border between profit from mining and profit from just selling the power to the grid:

I think it helped to be on this forum. Holding out for another month.
No offense. But why hold? You could have sold @ 500-600 Euro (top was 900 Euro) and rebuy @ 320-350 Euro!
Much profit! So easy. Just place bids and wait for the panic sellers.
BTW:
We will go down at least 1 more! So don't cry if you rebuy now (after you sold below the actual price) and we drop again to a new low.
I agree. Bitcoin will not be bitcoin anymore without the frequent ups and downs.

I have been thinking a lot about the doge phenomenon and it is really quite interesting.
Conceived as a parody, think of it as an actual implementation of CosbyCoin, it is one of the more elaborate mass trolls of our time.
I believe its intention was to point out the absurdity of cryptocurrencies in general, fair enough, this is a pretty out-there idea whatever its merits, but it has kind of blown up in the creators faces and threatens to teach the creators a lesson about the fundamental nature of money; that ANYTHING can be money if only people agree that it is. It puts me in mind of the
Rai stones of Micronesia.
It's the very definition of funny money

But Dogecoin is not just based on a meme, it is a meme itself. Therefore, it will follow the rules of memetic epidemiology - rise exponentially for a while, then disappear.
I also think that doge is just a meme. However, i'm taking advantage of its profitability while i still can. :p

If so... he is dumping his "coin", not "coins" because... no volume.
Unless they are trying to not cause panic just yet

I see some buy orders of 40btc that disappears immediately and becomes the last price. He sells at the price of the buyer rather than setting his own price so it won't show up on the order book.
Just an opinion.

Post 4243063 (copy this link) (by iarsenaux) (scraped on 2020-04-04_Sat_11.49h):
Perhaps true. But do not underestimate the ability of infrastructure to grow exponentially as well.
I said it yesterday in the other post and I don't wanna be repeating myself but when talking about infrastructure I see two critical points: technology and bureaucracy.
Technology can in fact hold up (with a lot of capital and work, and other exchanges popping up to cover demand).
You cannot rush bureaucracy. You have 6 months to convince banks to process 100x the amount of money they process today, all the while trying to comply with as of yet unwritten or non-existant laws and regulations. You have to go up the chain link by link, and sweet talk every player in every country. Just not possible.
Also, consider, a 100x price implies 100x more fiat processing BUT it does
not imply 100x of the technological aspect. Price discovery does not equal every-day use adoption.
tl;dr: technology might be able to cope; bureaucracy can not keep up.
Since when does Bitcoin care about Bureaucracy?

Not everyone will be cashing out coins. Many will hold or trade them directly or use them independent of banks or whatever government "laws and regulations" are there. It can slow down the process, sure. But I would not be concerned about the growth of Bitcoin being a problem. It will grow in spite of these difficulties. Eventually countries will either have to accept the use of the currency or be left behind.
Then , at some point down the road, I personally think the growth will cause some panic by countries because they no longer have "control" then they will regulate the use of Bitcoin, or whatever crypto currency, by requiring a bar code on our hands or foreheads so that they can keep track of who is buying things. Call me crazy but it seems highly likely.
You're missing the point. It's not about people cashing out coins... I'm talking about the buying !
How do you presume to push the price up 100x if people can't buy coins??
Most of the forum posters here, being from the US or EU don't realize it because they don't see it. It is extremely difficult to buy coins in volume from 3rd world countries.
If you're a South American today, you cannot hook your bank to any exchange. You cannot get market prices. There is no way to acquire ""fair"" value BTC other than LocalBitcoins or the such. None.
Only people with access to foreign bank acc's can. The rest buy p2p or with CC's in dodgy sites, and always at 15-25% markup.
This is all a matter of time. Just not 6 months...
Unless of course, you think you don't need the rest of the world to go super exponential.
I agree with bitchick. I'm from a 3rd world country. If i were not given 100btc long time ago i wouldn't be here. Basic salary in my country is only around $200 to $300 (tax is not yet subtracted) PER MONTH. Most of my countrymen cant even keep $50 at the end of the month. I'm just lucky being an early holder.

Sorry about that. It's 3:40am here. New year's party just ended. Though it's very hard for us to get into btc, i still invite my friends to try it out. I'm telling them that it's ok to buy in fractions and it is not necessary to get a whole before thay can join in. I'm telling them that one day bitcoin will save us from the double tax that we are paying and also fees from transfering money. Imagine i paid an extra $50 for the tax of an item that worths $50 in the USA.
I was already successful on convincing like 3 people. (2 relatives and 1 friend). I lend them few coins before and teach them how can they make it grow and i am so happy now that they are now playing with their own coins. I hope bitcoin will continue. Even if it wont reach 10kUSD, at least i hope it continues to be useful.
I will be having my bitcoin-funded wedding on January 15, 2014. I did not literally paid bitcoin for it but it's almost the same as i was able to generate the funds through bitcoin.
So whatever happens in 2014, i will continue supporting bitcoin.

Just a quick question from a noob.
Why would the price increase if some groups of people was able to buy on a cheaper price? And what would also be the reason why price would increase if those group or company bought coins on a higher price ( but i guess they wont bid price higher than market value coz if it was me i'd rather buy directly from an exchange ).

Did they ignore the fact that if you tried to buy that many coins all at once at market price, you're going to change the market price? Or, am I getting something wrong? I believe that stability is a big draw for quantity buyers and they'll bid close to market price, or about $600/BTC, or get shut out.
Only stupid traders will buy 3k coins on an exchange at once.

Edit: i'd rather buy slowly if i really needed 3k coins to make sure i can buy all i need without causing too much price increase in market.
