I am new here, but i have been reader here for long time. Recently i decided to sign up. I have question regarding bitcoin cash , Roger Ver and Jihan Wu and last saturday (1 week ago).

I read people accused those two for neat fall of bitcoin and big rise of bitcoin cash. Like i learn 2 methods were used.
1: mining: a lot of mining force was switched to bitcoin cash
2: big amount of "tiny trades"

Now i am not sure which one was more influental, 1 or 2, but if part 2 (large scale small trades) played big role (such thing happened i think also yesterday)....isnt there danger that a lot bigger guys (then Roger and Jihan) could do a lot more damage to fall of bitcoin (Hedge Funds), by rolling down bitcoin to buy it cheap

Changelly accepts BTG. Has anyone used them? They look reputable, and cool too.

https://changelly.com/

I'm drooling for some more BTC from the BTG airdrop I got today. Or should I wait for an imminent BTG super-pump?

Used them quite a bit. 9/10 always good and reasonably quick. Occasionally they have delays with LTC or even BTC when Jihan Wu decides to play Bitcoin God.

Just to confirm, for everyone's FYI, that I've just sold some of my BTG using Changelly, and everything went flawlessly, and quite fast for the kind of service it provides. Well done Changelly!

for me personally Changelly will for ever remain as "the biggest ripoff" that anyone did to me on internet. I bought a few months back with credit some crypo and i was absolutely shocked how much fee i paid because i paid with credit card. There was a warning there is extra fee (but at same point they stated their conversion is best on internet), but it wasnt stated what kind of fee will be. I paid  35 to 40% fee as i recall. Ripoff from Changelly. I will never forget them because it was so awfull

Wow, that's a lot of fees you paid, sorry to hear about it! I just did a crypto-to-crypto transaction, in which case the fee is 0.5%, which I think is reasonable. My guess is that credit cards are a risk to them due to chargebacks, so they counterbalance this with high fees. Are the fees still that high for credit cards?

Yes I understand crypto to crypto fee is not big.
I am not sure what kind of fee is now. The problem was because i could not see before making purchase what will be the fee. I only saw total amount that i will be charged, and i know  will be like knowntotalamountcharged=uknowncreditprocessingfee+remainingmoneythatwillbeexchanged

I’m a harder bull than many in this thread.  I have a 5 year price forecast of US$150 - 500k.  The reason is because I believe that Bitcoin has been mischaracterised as an asset when it is really a financial instrument.  In the period 2000 - 2007 the global value of CDOs rose from $69 billion to $1.7 trillion.  Bitcoin could easily do the same except it is starting from a higher base and has the potential for much greater capital inflows and higher market cap because it is also traded by retail investors.   So I put the market cap at $2 trillion to $5 trillion after 5 years.  This is without any disruption of the existing market system - ie the value of the US dollar remains much the same.  I have assumed for these purposes that the number of generated, non-lost, non-dust Bitcoins is somewhere less than 12 million.

I come off as a bear sometimes as I am a big fan of Nicholas Taleb in the book The Black Swan.  Looking for black swans is a bit of a hobby.

In any event, come what may, I enjoy the company of everyone on this thread as we share this historic journey.

Besides your interesting viewpoint, making the highest future price prediction is not what qualifies you as 'a harder bull than many'. Especially during an incredible bull market. Holding on to and accumulating bitcoins, whether it goes up or down (for years), does. Most bulls eventually break and reduce the risk, especially if you have a serious stash.

In short, personally, I'm planning to liquidate half of my BTC stash at the time when the fiat value I will get is enough to allow me to quit my job and pursue an independent career in my field. The other half I will keep, in the hope that BTC will eventually become something much bigger than it already is.

Reminds me of this post ($1200) by former reddit moderator (?) jratcliff63367. And Elwar ($4500). We almost all have our fiat breaking point even on a Bitcoin forum, and I already hate my future self for it. It gets tempting when reducing your holdings by 50% still sets you for life.

To add to the bullish sentiments but as well for the bigger picture, I can recommend reading this article by Miguel Cuneta (Co-founder at Satoshi Citadel Industries (sci.ph): https://decentralize.today/dont-fall-for-the-hype-why-bitcoin-s-10-000-price-doesn-t-reflect-its-true-value-6b42a59fce0a
You sold at 4500 half of bitcoins? was that at time when it went down from 5000 before it 1st reached 5000 ?
Can you give me your thoughts on this, can this be a problem at some point when bitcoin gets bigger and bigger ?

I am not woried to much about bitcoin  hitting the floor, but this article give me some thinking, opened some point of view and possible problem that i didnt saw before (in case if like bitcoin gets 10 times bigger)
My thinking is otherwise bitcoin is still at point where many people still dont even know for it, i am in some middle developed europian country, and i had conversation about bitcoin with like 20 people in last 2 months and only 1 of 20 had some significant knowledge about it, half of them didnt know nothing about bitcoin, so from my point of view i can only see bitcoin going up and up because its getting more and more media coverage and there are so many people who can and will jump in

I agree with wall street stuff 100%, people who can pump and dumb huge stocks can play a lot easily with bitcoin.
I guess there is no to big secret about AI for stock trading, its probably a lot more sophisticated then bots that some people have for crypto.

Pardon me if this has already been discussed, but:
Whats your thought that after bitcoin futures were introduces we go now some people who bought shorts and they have interest to manipulate bitcoin (not futures but real bitcoin) by drawing it down. Before real interest was primary to pump and dump real bitcoin, but now some big player can all the sudden play bear market. And the tools they have different then for example with gold, or some other stock, they can play on two fields.

And people used to play bear market with other stocks can see they have big potental and possible huge huge incomes if they can draw bitcoin to its knees.

Nice one

Bitcoin: a digital currency with known & limited supply, an open global network, and not controlled by politicians.

US Dollar: a digital currency with unknown & unlimited supply, a highly restricted territory-based network, and controlled by politicians. Which will win, longterm?

I invested in bitcoin long time ago because I am counting this new technology will go up. I dont believe into bull s h i t crap like "not controled by politicians and banks and all that crap"
-bitcoin is controled by many people
-the downside is also its unsafe, somecan point gun to your head to force you transfer and its bye bye, you can be f uc ed k 10 times more compared if someone try to steal you some other stuff, its very unsafe, i fell 10 times more confortable with money in bank

but i like bitcoin, but i dont pretend some stuff like many of you here do while using words like "oh those banks, oh those politicans"
bitcoin can be, was and will be also manipulated like hell with pump and dump...you dont mention that? and i didnt even touch manipulation that roger and company can do, or some other new big companies
but i still like bitcoin

also you talking banks are bad, in order for you guys and me reached high figures with bitcoins, many many people also lost money....this is not "we win all", you have what you have because lots of money got broke while trying all sort of stuff with bitcoin

i cant believe how blinded are some people
i still love bitcoin, but i am realistic

Good morning guys.

Indicators are relaxing as we catch support at the kijun line. This is a short term consolidation point and the market looks like it will head back towards the .382 fib line. I expect more sideways this coming week with moderate volume and volatility as we head back towards and test $10k next weekend. This rise, consolidate then dip cycle is very bullish imho. The laddering up is very apparent on the cloud. #dyor

Please explain me because I am stupid. How can your chart predict what will happen if there will be for example some major negative or major positive news? I am always very puzzled by so called chart experts (who always predicts two side movement lol) who never mention news. For me its like news run 90% of crypto market. For chart experts its like they never heard for news.

Or perhaps I am just stupid and news doesnt mater. I feel i will hear now flame, but i dont got it, post like news doesnt matter.

If this is not bullish, I don't know what is:

Some of the biggest names on Wall Street are warming up to bitcoin, a virtual currency that for nearly a decade has been consigned to the unregulated fringes of the financial world.
The parent company of the New York Stock Exchange has been working on an online trading platform that would allow large investors to buy and hold bitcoin, according to emails and documents viewed by The New York Times and four people briefed on the effort who asked to remain anonymous because the plans were  still confidential.
....
Goldman will initially only be trading futures contracts linked to bitcoin’s price. But Goldman executives said they were looking at moving in the direction of buying and selling actual bitcoins.
The Intercontinental Exchange’s effort, if it pans out, could make bitcoin available to a much wider and more influential customer base, including other financial firms.
...

Read the whole NYT article at:

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/coming-soon-bitcoin-trades-on-wall-street/articleshow/64076979.cms

If wall street is warming up for bitcoin this can as well they are warming to be bearish. People also invest a lot by SELLing futures. I think (correct me if i am wrong) the biggest bearish investment in stock markets are tesla stocks (i hope bulls beat them). If i am not mistaken tesla stock has the most bears among all stocks. I think we cant really see how much are bitcoin futures making SELL (for rookies this means betting that stock will go down) and how much BUY

Help me with your thoughts on bitcoin futures.

In February I started to think if they are bad for bitcoin (because bitcoin remain bearish since introduction of futures).
Now i think they are bad, but probably not on extremely long turn. On extremely long term they are probably good (in years 2019, 2020)

But on short term (this year) i think bitcoin futures are bad. Why bad?
Because all the sudden people with a lot more money then those in crpyto can draw and earn money with hedging and drawing money from "little people with less experience". They wont take money from true hodlers who just hold, but bitcoin need new people in order to go up and up and crazy up, and experienced hedging companies could for quite some time draw price down and they have more knowledge whats and how much is needed to cause spikes down with help of futures.

Can someone help me dig out how much money is now in futures?
http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/equity-index/us-index/bitcoin_quotes_globex.html
For may its i think 3000 contacts? now i wonder how much money is in that

If 1 contract 100 bitcoins? 900k USD? and there was  i think today 3000 buy/sell (or with other words 3000 combined going long + going short)
So 3000 times 900k usd = 2,7 billion USD in one day

Am i gettting this right ? i think not

No it's 5 btc per contract, so vol. is still tiny overall. Yes iirc CME is settled in btc, while CBOE is in usd http://cfe.cboe.com/cfe-products/xbt-cboe-bitcoin-futures
Here's their, generally bigger, volume http://cfe.cboe.com/cfe-products/xbt-cboe-bitcoin-futures with 1btc per contract
compare https://www.barchart.com/futures/bitcoin
Your final question - no, there is always a bigger fish who will counter-trade their competitors.

edit: Some traders are noticing a small CME factor, where spot price draws towards week's close price on CME, but most are unconvinced, again because of tiny volume.

Is there anyone who think that big fee was one of the most important thing that made bitcoin what it is now? And now fee aint so big like it was.

If people resell some product from  person a, b, c, d .......i, and if fee is 1% then passing through 10 people price go up for 11% WITHOUT any external effect that would make price rise (or drop).
Imagine if there was no fee....or if fee was 1 time bigger....would shit be different?

Or let me ask you, if fee was 20% bigger (compared to current fee), you think bitcoin value would be bigger now? it would not be so a lot bigger that people would from start say "i gona gona stay away from this stuff, its to big fee", but all transactions would raise price

Problem happened when altcoins market % started to rise (but bitcoin was already high at that point) and there was to much of disscusion regarding fee.

I think big fee made bitcoin what it is.

Good morning Bitcoinland from rain-soaked Puerto Morelos. Down on the coast for a day to visit with friends and buy a new wifi router, and a few other things that are unavailable in the jungle.

First internet access in almost a week and I see the decline from $9.95k continues, although it rebounded a little this morning... currently $8800USD/$11230CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

Why is it that the best buying dips always seem to happen when I have no access to buying?
_____

Got a couple more weeks before heading north before the real rainy season begins. Busy preparing for the rains by replacing the roof and fixing the stucco on the walls of the house I bought in January.

I also have to plant a couple of rows of guano palms along the road frontage of my second property (which I bought last week) before the rains come. They should be well-watered and established by the time I come back down in November and will make an excellent privacy "hedge" as well as a fine source of roofing thatch.

So i guess you are not a holder ?

I dont like it, I hate it, but i got to admit the Bear whales are strong. News regarding bitcoin and crypto are very positive lately.  So I am thinking similar is going on like many times in stock market. Where hedge funds come in to surprise common folk with opposite move that you would think by news suggestions (common folk will usually have weak shorts or longs, and they will be cleared on stop lossed with big hedge funds moves, making hedge funds easy profits).

So I am thinking whales are killing all new comers (and those who decided to join on dips and invest from 8, 8.5, 9k....and are easier to panic and sell). Positive news situation atracts new investors, but bears kills them forever. But without new people...

Suspicions of fraud: the Bogdanoff brothers in police custody

According to BFM TV, the brothers Igor and Grichka Bogdanoff were placed in custody on Tuesday in Paris, in a police station in the 16th arrondissement.

The TV presenters were arrested "on rogatory commission of an investigating judge seized of an open judicial investigation of the head of fraud on vulnerable person and attempt of fraud", according to the investigators.

This is not the first time that the famous twins are in trouble with the law. Last November, Igor Bogdanoff was placed under judicial control. This followed the complaint of his ex-partner, Julie Jardon, who accused him of having entered his home.

This will triger also "i have enought of this shit" from some other long time people, making price reach new bottom.

And then we go into repeat mode again, bears making profit on those who just joined the game.

The US is the biggest endorser of Bitcoin.

I just had a strange thought.

I don't know If I will able to express myself like I would in my native language but I'll try my best.

Does anybody find it weird that technologies like mp3, napster, torrent, bitcoin are almost always invented in the US where you get thrown in Jail if you don't pay your taxes or use pirated software, in other words, where the law is too strict?

Now I know what you'll counter me with this: "USA is the most developed country yo noob what did you expect?"

Just stay a while and listen.

I am not talking about that.

It is like they do it on purpose.

It is like they didn't shut down the torrent network willingly. I know they jailed the TPB owner and shut down their website many times but I don't believe they really wanted it. Cuz: "Last remaining Pirate Bay founder freed from jail"

They do it on purpose so people with minimum wages can enjoy movies and books other stuff where only the rich can enjoy "legally".

You become an illegal when you pirate a software but only if you get caught and unless you are too dumb, you'll never get caught.

They are trying to suppress the anger which is raising among the people by giving them these sedatives. If the anger raises to a certain point, it'll become a riot. >> See France.

This is one of the reasons why they invented Bitcoin.

To give people a chance to enjoy the stuff that only the rich enjoy. (like lambos)

I mean there are tons of other reasons but I am sure this is one of them.

The FIAT rich people, naturally, always want to get richer. And in this system, there are thousands of them and they all want to live without working. When there are too many of those freeloaders, the system gets clogged down. And we are already there. In other words, the system has failed.

These rich people need to get poorer. You'll either have to kill them one by one (which'll take lots of effort) or you need to find a way to affect all of them with one trick. What trick would that be? By introducing a new monetary system!

...to make those old kings poorer some other people need to get richer and who do you think these new elite are? Crypto adopters.

The beauty of this,

If guys like Warren Buffet don't join this game, He'll lose shitloads of potential gains because if he doesn't some other rich dude will. And If he decides to join, then he just speeds up the process! of the desctruction of his FIAT investments!

They make news about bitcoin and how it is being used by terrorists and drug dealers but then what? They don't shut coinbase down, instead they say they'll eventually approve the bitcoin ETF!

They make it incredibly painful to use banks but then they also introduce a semi-legal system where it is all free and easy!! (like bitcoin)
They make it fairly expensive to buy movies, books etc for a minimum wage worker but then they also introduce the alternative, torrent!!

Weird.

Edit: Just saw this:
https://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-founder-released-from-jail-but-immediately-re-arrested-150828/

So things are a bit messy with TPB. Dunno what his last situation is.

If I remember correctly youtube was also supposed to be illegal and was getting sued (by sony i think and some others). And i would dare to think that majority of things on google was illegal at that time, but then google stepped in......and ...money talked. Now majority of things on youtube is not illegal, but there is still a lot of illegal things, but now google owns it (alphabet)

I'm always amazed to see how nice and clean a country with no brown people is.

Yeah, China also so clean and nice. Good thing they have no brown people there. Who knows what kind of cesspool of inhumanity, pollution and overpopulation it would turn into...

There are some extraneous circumstances there:

1)  Overpopulation tends to force humans to see each other as the enemy in a zero sum game.  There's really zero incentive at play to worry about things like 'tragedy of the commons'.

2)  Chinese are the sick man of Asia - culturally destroyed by communism and doomed to have a dysfunctional civilization until it's after effects are gone (who the hell knows how long that will be).

3)  Lopsided male to female population distribution.  With females being mostly predatory parasites seeking resources, one of their few coherent, shared cultural ideals revolves around the worship of money, otherwise you will have nothing to attract the female with.  The worship of money as an end instead of a means to an end is never going to create anything good.

I always wondered if you are a bot or computer program or a real person.

Hm. I have been using Coinbase, it's pretty reasonable and not Finex (which for some reason is back in line this morning). Everyone loves stamp?

Sorry man.  We need to all speak the same language otherwise people get confused.

Coinbase led for much of the 2017 rally so it was not aligned with Bitstamp.  We were calling Bitstamp, Bearstamp.

Bitstamp is the chosen price on the Wall because it is the oldest and most reliable exchange. It also doesn’t have leveraged trading and various other fuckery common in other exchanges.

Here is a chart showing the spread between Coinbase and Bitstamp during the peak of the 2017 rally.  As you can see Coinbase / Gdax was trading up to 6.5% higher than Bitstamp.

Here is a 15 minute chart from today.  You can see that Coinbase was up to 0.5% higher than Bitstamp, which translates to $34 at these levels.

If after this sell off BTC gets significantly over 70% dominance I would be happy.

Sometimes I think what would happen if we drop to 6k, 5k, i think BTC would be at 80% dominance or more, the dominance side effect would be great
