The dollar value increase has little to do with the decrease in BTC/USD.
It would only affect the price by a few bucks or so.

Good morning, So Bitcoin price is 4 times less than the ATH and people are cheering up for $20 and calling the next bubble and reversal !!!!? what a delusion, you have been doing this since $800
And oh, just look at the larger holders and early adopters shitting their pants @ twitter and in this forum, it is a hell of fun watching fear tearing the shit out of them.
I don't give a damn about the price.

Shitting? Fear? No, this has all happened before and will probably happen again..
Irritation, annoyance, yep... I wanted to buy a lambo before I turned 24 damn it.
Why do nerds/geeks have such an obsession with "lambos": is it some sort of compensatory reflex?
It is a way for some people of showing their wealth which greatly increase their chance of success with greedy females.
*If you consider that most females are greedy then it increase your chance with females.
It is also a way of showing your social status and get respect from your peers (if they like Lambo too otherwise they'll think you're just an insecure small dick).

Bitcoin won't ever go mainstream; Ever
This reminds me of the old thing about "this year being the year of the Linux desktop". It never happened - instead desktop PCs stopped being particularly relevant, and now we're all wandering around with Linux on our (Android) phones, watching TVs that run on Linux, driving cars that have embedded Linux control- and entertainment-systems, etc.
tl;dr - I don't think Bitcoin will go mainstream, either. I can't wait to see what amazing things it does instead!
Yeah fuck the mainstream. I use Linux and I don't care if people use it or not.
Bitcoin & cryptos are amazing.

I'd just add that it's a shame that it's called "feminISM" - any "-ism" implies ideology and dogma. I'd rather call it "being respectful of everyone and their individuality" but that doesn't market very well, does it? Nowadays we end up in a situation where often men can't be considered victims of sexism, sort of like white people can't be victims of racism. It's bullshit, but bullshit makes the flowers grow...
Feminism comes with a lot of baggage due to the bad seeds in the group ruining it for the ones who just want simple equality and respect. Misandrists in feminist clothing, women who think it's fine when men are sexualized (or just outright don't think men can be sexualized) but hate it when women are, and those who act like women who enjoy wearing revealing outfits are cheapening themselves immediately come to mind.
The first two are hypocrites, the third is simply ironic that they want to stifle a womans right to express herself as she chooses.
I have no idea why you talk about feminism but I'd like to say that it doesn't exist like amazons or matriarch society never existed.
It is just a fantasy. It's a way for men to materialize their fear of women.
You are afraid of women don't you ?
Especially their desire and sexual needs.

What do you think about the USD ?

Is it because of the oil price going down ?
It's so "strong" simply because everyone is in a race to devalue their own currency and everyone is beating the USD at doing that right now. "strong" and "weak" dollar indexes are 100% manipulated by the central banks deciding on how much money to print in relation to other countries. Don't be fooled by these numbers like most people are.
Also the stock market looks pretty good right? Wrong. What else do you expect with QE x 3 and extremely low interest rates? Everyone puts their money in the stock market and the slow but steady rise is really more of a ponzi scheme than anything else right now.
I wonder how many QE can US do before the crash.
Will we see QE 10, QE 100 ?
Can the madness go on forever ?
The rest of the world is in more shit than USA. Capital has found save haven in USD as the rest of the markets are in poor condition, for example EU is in deflation and soon there will be nobody willing to lend to some of the EU members (France, Spain,...) which may need to default and thus many investors find holding Euro risky. There are taxes raising everywhere in hunt for money to prolong govermental status quo and socialstic utopia in many countries. Oil prices are only indicator that we may go into another global recession in the next months and investors are expecting lower demand for energy.
What will happen when West Europe goes bankrupt ?
The economy is global but as long as there is no real crash, everything goes well and USD get stronger.

Those benefits are so great that civilization can survive (for a short time) even under the predation of institutionalized violence.
In the end, however, the parasite always grows until it destroys the host civilization.
Yea, except this will take us back to the wild west ages where everyone fucks everyone and where most of the opportunities are for the elites while the majority slave or barely survive in an unfair community, which leads people to rise against the CHAOS and enforce governments and laws and constitutions... you know the same circle all over again.
Libertarians usually talk about their ideas of a communities without considering history of failed experiences.... you cant give too much freedom when most of the opinions varies, you have to enforce some boundaries, how would a libertarian free of government community even agree on priorities and necessities when the human nature is to fight and differ on stupid matters.... we see that kind conflicts all around the world.

No, money is money, power is power. But that's beside the point. The point is centralized governments, in one form or another, existed throughout human history. While Anarcho-capitalism remained a fiction.

Err... Obama is less wealthy than a number of Americans, what's your point?
Obama is not a government. What's your point ?
My point was that (1) Europe used to be extremely decentralized for most of its History and (2) that the title of "King" did not mean that you own anything.
Sorry, I consider myself pretty hardcore libertarian. Feudalism does not really connote freedom. Sure, if you were a lord or king or whatnot, it was probably a pretty fun time (until your rival ran a sword through your gizzards) but the common man had it pretty rough. It wasn't really until firearms came along and started to level the playing field that that was redressed.
However, there were regions and times where freedom was more prevalent and we can see its positive effects within the societies that exist currently. Control? Soviet Russia, North Korea, Communist China. More freedom? South Korea, current hybrid China. Even more freedom? 20th century US and UK. Bit less freedom? Declining 21st century US and UK.
Yes that's right if you compare to now but in Feudalism, people were no more "slaves" like they were during the Roman Empire.
It was still very hard but they had the right to own land and trade which make a big difference.

there are no historical examples that survived for a meaningful length of time.

Stop worrying about the freedom of other people, just become free yourselves. You cannot change anything, so stop worrying. Stop trying to convince other people your method or theory of government will work for them, just disentangle yourself from the system you dislike and become free.
So true
It is a waste of time to complain about things that you cannot change.
It is just wrong to convince people of what you think is good for them.
We are hard wired to see order and system. Even when there are none. The world is relying on that. The illusion of order is what keeps society structured.
The voice of wisdom !!
Order is an illusion.
Stop giving up your freedom for the illusion of security.

this is why states and borders exist, and some kind of enforced regulation has to exist so people can live with each other.
Here's the problem - you're confusing yourself for humanity. That's called projection.
Maybe
you need enforced regulations in order to get along with other people. If so, that's a personal problem you should discuss with a competent psychotherapist.
Yea, I have/had major issues getting along with people who have different visions and different life style that I didn't/don't agree with. thanks to the regulations that exists in my home country (Algeria) and here in EU I could still live with them,
in other words I lived the CHAOS first hand between 1991-2000, so try to live in a system where having an Islamic orthodox fucking you up and slaughtering everyone against his vision then tell me how to get people to agree on something in a free of regulations state/world where you have many demographics, because you don't know shit about that, I lived it first hand.
Some of you have no fucking idea what freedom means, freedom is necessary but total freedom is CHAOS, regulations are meant for a reason... take Syria for example, watch how a lack of a government worked for these people.... take Iraq for another example, a total CHAOS, a government that cant do shit about losing territory to a terrorist organization that calls it self a state...
I would love to watch how your technological distributed libertarian state will work...
Minimal state would do for example.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minarchismtheir only legitimate function is the protection of individuals from aggression, theft, breach of contract, and fraud, and that the only legitimate governmental institutions are the military, police, and courts. In the broadest sense, it also includes fire departments, prisons, the executive, and legislatures as legitimate government functions. Such states are generally called night-watchman states.USA used to be a minimal state.

USA was never an Anarcho-capitalist state. Small government is fine, no government = unsustainable, quickly evolving a government or falling under an existing one [pwnge].
A small government (minimal state) is what is needed before trying anything anarcho-something.
I am for a minimal state as defined as Minarchism.
When most governments will be minimal, we'll see what we can do.
you start with that and you end up with what we have today, because then you keep adding, for example education, health care.... the systems that we have today didnt just appear in one night, they are the outcome of development of centuries.
Yes, I also agree about changing some corrupt governments and improving things, but I don't think a free libertarian state is any kind of a help, in fact I think it will just make things worst.
This is what we must fight. This is the perversion.

We must fight against corrupted obese government by shutting down the infinite free money generator : the banking system.

Money of the future? Jesus fk. No wonder people are now leaving the bitcoin community and not coming back.
I bought in 2013 and I in the green like

Wait for 2015 if you bought in 2014.

-There always were and always will be people exploiting loopholes in laws and regulations. Like Bitcoiners managing to circumvent AML and taxation for a while. That's why teh law is in constant flux, constantly updated by your betters to better serve you,
criminal scum.
-Duration can not be extended indefinitely. The ability to extend patents/copyrights is also in flux to best serve you, earthling.
-We are neither innocent nor corrupt. We is [were/are/will be].
Stop thinking. It gives your flesh a sour aftertaste.

Oh I love people using "there always were and always will be".
Wow
Much order
Such authority
Very respectYeah, keep believing that the world doesn't change.
The more you believe, the more you get butthurt by reality.
That's where you get pleasure from, right ?
World change, people's mind change. Humanity evolve.
There are the ones who anticipate changes and adapt to it and there are the ones that get butthurt...
There is no way governments stay is their current form simply because they do not do any effort to adapt to change.
No Kingdom or Empire ever lasted.

I bought 7 bitcoins on June 9th, 2011 for $30.49, almost the very top of that bubble. I was in the
RED about an hour after I bought them until February 23rd, 2013.
And I still have those bitcoins.
And you should have bought 1000 knowing what you know now.

I am sure it was painful for that long period of time though. There was even more uncertainty then about where Bitcoin was going and how successful it would be than there is now. Now we can see the infrastructure growing everyday.
Oh no ! Things never changes no ! Bitcoin can only fail ![say the schizophrenic from the mental institution]

Yes that's right if you compare to now but in Feudalism, people were no more "slaves" like they were during the Roman Empire.
It was still very hard but they had the right to own land and trade which make a big difference.
The definition of feudalism is a bit muddy, (perfect for politicians) and the traditions varied over time and place (also perfect for politicians, you can claim anything), but generally feudalism is described as farmers not owning the land, the lord did and the vassals rented it in exchange for resources and military duties.
You're right, it is hard to define and you're probably the only one here that know a bit about feudalism.
But I found it really interesting, especially the high decentralization and the absence of state (as we have nowadays).
People are total ignorant when they claim that the social organization did not change in the last 3000 years.
But hey, for most Americans, History start 400 years ago or more likely 50 years ago...

just a question of energy-costs.
bitcoin would have to fall at sub 20$ to get the first big mining companies to quit mining cause of energy-cost problems.
Damn, I was hopping for mining companies to go bankrupt.
Let's get Bitcoin to 20 USD then !
50 USD for 1000 BTC, sounds good

This forum needs a button called "Mark as Troll", if enough people mark somebody as a Troll, all their messages can go straight to the "moon" folder where nobody has to read them.
The ignore button (a couple of years ago) used to glow from light yellow to darker orange depending on the amount of ignores, so if you saw someone with a glowing Ignore button you knew he was ignored by so many users(doesnt mean he is a troll though), you know someone like you would have a red glowing button.... but thanks to Theymos and his free speech hardcore support (which I do support as well) this doesn't work anymore.
Indeed. How about someone suggests this for the new forum. Should be easy to implement.
I've been looking, well carefully following the thread (since my last post here). The amount of trolls is amazing.
Whatever happens (price goes down, or even when it goes up like today) they keep spreading FUD or mocking us and/or Bitcoin.'Free speech' is important, but there has to be a limit somewhere.
This would be totally abused by trolls that would mark people as troll with tons of sockpuppet accounts.

diamonds guns bonds and exxon stock ...
Really? I mean, really really?
Diamonds? Man.
Bonds? Excuse me.
Guns? What an investment is that?
Exxon stock? How about some ENRON? Heard they did great in the past.
-hardest known material with industrial application plus shiny for jewelry ... people do still get married yknow ... they have gained in value ... though not rapidly and not recently ... less than 1% of net ...
-bonds have made me money as well roughly 0.5% - 1% a year ... safe easy money i don't need to pay any attention to ... make up 1-2% of net ...
-guns is more of a collection ... some would count as antique art ... the others serve to protect the physical metals and yknow ... my person ... cops won't help you in a home invasion ... have you ever had a gun held to your head ? ... i have ... so i consider them money well spent ... the value of firearms have actually increased quite a bit as material costs have gone up and manufacturers jack the prices up accordingly ... maybe 2% of net
-my exxon stock has split 4 times since i've owned it and gained in value double digit %s as well ... exxon is last i checked the largest global petrochemical / energy company in the world ... not just oil ... large industrial infrastructure extremely different from ENRON which was basically an improperly (illegally) run futures trading market ... actually exxon and enron couldn't be much more different ... it has done very well so well i rarely check it ... 5% of net
... 15%fiat/btc never greater than 10:1 cash:btc ... 1% diamond 1% bond 2% gun 5% exxon 5% gold/silver ... with the remaining 70ish% real estate (which has tripled since grabbing all of that after us real estate bubble burst in 08/09) ... i'm doing just fine with my almost all solid physical conservative investments ... don't you worry about me ... i'm at low %s on the slow stuff ... low %s on the speculative ... mostly real estate and well timed ... but seriously i wish you luck if you've got more than 50% of your money tied up in a speculative ledger currency that has established the bulk of it's value in the last couple of years ... don't take your eyes off the screen ...
Having a bit of FIAT : OK
Real estate after a crash : OK
But please, don't advice people to buy things like diamonds, guns, bonds and stocks... please, this is ridiculous and terrible advice.
If people want to diversify, they can buy some gold and silver when it's low.
