The forex-broker plus500 has now opened for bitcoin trading. 4:1 leverage, someone is going to get very rich or poor...

Even though they also allow shorting, I think this is great for the price, as they accept credit card deposits and is a very easy way for a lot of people to get into bitcoins.

Its got UK offices/oversight, but from what i can make out, it doesn't allow deposit or withdrawal of BTC, just fiat.

Ye, no BTC deposit, but credit card is still a lot better than international wire. Anyways, good to finally have a site that is actually regulated by someone where you can trade.

So, say 100 people each put 1000GBP in, buy bitcoins, price quadruples then they cash out, where does the GBP from? Exchanges need to be open at both ends and the exchange just takes a cut from transactions otherwise you have currency supply issues. Which could have a detrimental effect on the price, as can be seen on some of the exchanges where it is hard to get USD in.

As others have said you are betting against the site. If you buy and price doubles, you win and site loses. The site wants to have as many people shorting Bitcoins as people going long through them, that way they have minimal risk. If a lot of people buy Bitcoin and few short, the site will most likely buy coins through Mt. Gox to hedge their risk. Thats why I think it will be a good thing, because most people will probably go long.

Another positive effect should be that this exposes Bitcoin to a lot more people as plus500 already has a lot of customers trading all kind of other stuff. When they see Bitcoin is the place with most action they will hopefully look further into it.

Trading on plus500, 4:1 leverage, its a pretty big Euro Forex broker, but not open to US customers unfortunately. See my signature for details.

I don't think we've ever seen quite this level of entrenchment after January.  This might be the stability we've been waiting for Smiley

Yes if I wasnt't trading with 4:1 leverage through plus500, I might have fallen asleep  Shocked

I am doing plus500 as well.

Shorting and waiting for it to get to 95

Waiting for it to hit $115-120, before I turn around and short, but good luck Smiley

Im going short here fully leveraged. This reminds me of the recent 140 high with no volume. Looking for 105ish to make me a nice 25% gain.

So far things are looking good. I am however a bit worried about that next guy coming up, he looks scary.

Only one witness left to be worried about at this point:
Ernie Allen, president and chief executive officer at The International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children

Think about the children...

I just received the weekly newsletter from plus500 (see signature for more info) which states that the most traded commodity the last 3 days has been Bitcoin. (Beating out both Gold and Oil.) Screenshot of the newsletter: http://imgur.com/UC9qTUP

Think this shows just how large the Bitcoin interest is right now. At Plus500 you can make instant deposits with credit cards so there is no waiting on money to hit the exchange. This is probably a good indicator that there is a huge amount of money on the way to the real exchanges as well.

I am looking to get about 10k in fiat into Gox, so if you have fiat stuck on Gox and want to get it out instantly PM me to discuss a deal. Pending withdrawals can be canceled without delay so if you have a pending withdrawal you might be interested as well.
Can do less than 10k as well.

Price will hardly move beyond +/-5% change in either direction after announcement. Market will forget it in just 2 days whatever this decision is and will focus again on blah-blah like blocksize and hard forks.

You are way off in your last few comments and if you are interested in making a bet I will give you 2:1 odds on the market not moving 10% up/down after the first 24 hours. Will also make a bet with you on it going below $1000 if not approved. If you really believe what you are writing just PM me and we can set something up.

Who are you? How will you guarantee your bet?
Why should I go through the hassle of escrowing a bet with a stranger if there is already a market and I can bet whatever I can on that market?

I am sure we can find someone to escrow our bet. I will pay all escrow fees and I am sure I can offer you enough action to make it worth your time  Wink

You should take the bet because you seem very sure about what you are saying and I am offering 2:1 so even if you are only 50% sure you would be printing money by taking the bet.

I do not think there is a market available where you can bet directly on the volatility after the ETF decision, but if there is, please inform me where I can find it.

You can do it on every exchange. You simply place stop loss sell order at -5% and take profit at -10%. For upward movement you place stop loss buy order at +5% and take profit at +10% calculated on current price. Hope that solves your problem?

Thanks, but I simply fear the slippage will kill this kind of trade for me. It will be huge IMO, but if you don't expect a 5% move I guess you don't expect much slippage either so that is fair.

Anyways, I put my money where my mouth is and the bet is open for anyone who wants it, so I guess I am now at least entitled to come back to gloat (or apologize to you) when we see the results. Good luck!
