Classic head-and-shoulders forming. That projects to $3700 for the
next low, then another leg up (but not to new highs).

If support at $3770 doesn't hold, then further downside to go.

Next stop for BTC is the 61.8 fibo retracement... that's at $3048.
I'll be watching how it behaves there. If it hesitates and shows
support, that'll the time to buy the first tranche long.

But if it goes knifing through, it could well do a 100% retrace to
$2000. (Some traders look at the 78.6 fibo retracement, but not me.)

Or then again, maybe the bounce was just a perfect
touch of the .786 retracement level at $3,000...

Classic price movement: mania up to $4800, panic-sell drop to $3000, then price
settling in around $3900.  The go-no-where price of the last week is actually
really good for the coin... boring trade that's in equilibrium may not be good for
speculators or traders, but it's good for BTC.

Seems resistance at $4400 is the only immediate thing on the horizon before we hit $5000. We've been bound to have a breakout soon either way with all the resistance and dumping we've been having in the past few days and weeks. $4300 may be possible tonight if we get a quick buy up of coins. Keep HODLing, friends. Smiley

Yup... nice thing about a quick sharp dip like we had to $3000 is that it shakes out the
weak hands. That sets the stage for the next leg up.

Are we going down? Kinda looks like we headed for lower lows

Orderly correction in progress... volume does not indicate panic. So far, I'd say it's just taking some of the froth out of the price.

CME is colossal, more and more fuel is added to the rocket.

Um... it's not guaranteed "rocket fuel". CME futures actually allow traders to short BTC.  In other words, it's equally likely that traders can push the price down, as well as up.

Regarding the blow-off, I highly guess we've achieved it with the latest bull run FOR NOW. For sure it will occur once and twice in the parabolic trend we are in. And what is happening in terms of the correction, is extremely healthy to continue our bull-run in healthy manners as well.

Retracements are essential to further price gains. It shakes out the weaker hands and holders who were waiting for any excuse to sell. Remove the sellers and it sets the stage for the next climb. The price is already equilibrating nicely around $14,000.

Bitcoin is quite volatile through the last few days. How many dips did you buy? Come comment on our daily chart segment with your thoughts.
Bitcoin is one of the day's most remarkable gainers, scoring 24 hour gains around 15% as a bullish market sentiment re-appears. BTC/USD markets are once again exploding in trading volumes while traders jump on the ongoing rally. In spite of the volatility in the last few days, if such support is continued a base for more persistent positive movements could be set.

I told you all 2 days ago that I was buying today!

You're welcome!

(J/K not really a whale.)

 Grin

Actually... no "explosion in trading volumes" at all.

Those US residents who dumped for tax filing reasons yesterday are probably buying back now it's lunch time on January the 2nd in the USA.
That makes no sense.  Last year was a huge run up so you would not sell at the end of the year but sell this year if you want to defer paying taxes on it in the short term but even that isn’t the most efficient.  US taxpayer best case is long term capital gains which is 366 days from purchase so end of year or not doesn’t matter.

Yup, artful bodger doesn't know what they are talking about. US Taxes also don't permit wash sales, which are selling at the end of the year and then buying back within 30 days. And even if they did, why would they sell to lock in gains??

I've been trying to get my dad to buy bitcoins since the price was $2. He just called me tonight and said he wants to buy some. Not a good sign.

Just make sure to teach him how the wallet works and have patience with him; last thing you want is for him to lose the coins.

... and sell your own holdings. The un-informed are always last to the party.  Just sayin'

Yup, two good tests at $13 - $14k and holding. Buyers and sellers finding balance (finally!).

More importantly, we are getting price divergence with the other cryptos. Ripple moving down, Ethereum moving up, while Bitcoin is moving sideways. Investors are starting to distinguish between coin specifics.
