Zynga taking BTC on some of there games:

http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1udclz/zynga_launches_bitcoin_test_with_bitpay/

A possible promotional idea for bitcoin would be to head on down to a site like:

http://www.zyngaplayerforums.com/forum.php (google search for other popluar zynga groups)

And offer to buy something for them in their game. It will likely be their first exposure to Bitcoin and they might like how easy it is. It will also spread awareness inside the zynga community and perhaps they may get a subset of bitcoiners there! If the community grows the news and other companies will follow. Think of it as spending a few dollars each to grow the bitcoin economy.

Yes and more and more bitcoine exchange work at becoming a gateway. The last one was LakeBTC. A bank is actually implementing ripple (Fidor) and reading cofoudner half official announcment we will probably see many more banks the year coming.

I see people are incredulous when they read Ripple Labs might easily have over a hundred banks on board within the next year. but this is real and this is coming.

Wait and see. Smiley

Why? Wasn't ripple promoting the idea of peaceful coexistance of BTC and ripple. Wasn't XRP just a spam prevention coin?

Care to make a guess on price movement in the next 48 hours?

(I like to weigh the input of as many random indicators as possible)

I'm not good with the short term guesses. I suspect forces are keeping the price of bitcoin artificially low. The wave of adoption will eventually break the bear market. I think we are near the bottom and prices will slowly recover for a bit and then hit another hype bubble.

That's your critique? Some people preach bitcoin? It must not have a future after all if some people are too excited about it. Sorry, but based on your posts your contribution to the "signal to noise" ratio of this forum is mostly noise. It's sad because this forum used to be about learning, debate and education. Now it seems like its overrun by people with ulterior motives and trolls who just want to irritate other bitcoiners.

I would love to hear your main critiques of bitcoin in another thread though where your posts are on topic. I know you "don't cater to the lowest common denominator" but how else can I see my folly?

Thats a lot of your assets to have in btc 50%

Since October, the bitcoin half lost 39% of its value (~380 to ~230).

The cash half is still worth pretty much the same...

Do you think boom-bust cycles help prevent over investment and may lead to a better distribution of bitcoins?

The distribution of bitcoins is pretty bad, but I have no idea how it is evolving.  There are many processes going on, some concentrate the coins (for instance, "professional" robot-driving traders collecting coins from many small traders) and others distribute them (for instance, large holders cashing profits by selling at exchanges, directly or through Bitpay). Who knows which kind predominates.

Fiat tends to have poor distribution as well. I've wondered if politics allows newly created money to be concentrated to a few at a faster pace than can trickle down to everyone else. They never see the "trickle down effect". With bitcoin, eventually the new coins stop and has no choice but to slowly become more distributed.

Nonsense.  Nether gold nor BTCeanies become more evenly distributed with time.

Neither are really used to purchase everyday things.

-The fact that nobody is really interested in buying bitcoin to mainly use it as a currency aside from illicit goods, but more as a wild musical chairs speculation instrument.
-Scalability issues (and their solution proposals bring other problems and controversy)
-Mining centralisation, 51% attacks, the possibility of mining cartels.
-Higher fees in the future. BTC has low fees now that miners are allowed to print money mine bitcoins like quazy, but fees will be higher as block reward is reduced.
-slow transactions (you can't replace cash with something that can take half an hour or more to confirm, 0 confirmation transactions are not secure)
-ridiculous volatility that fucks up uses for bitcoin as a currency.
-the fact that merchants "accepting bitcoin" just create more selling pressure. Spending bitcoin = dumping bitcoin.

And countless others.

The idea behind the blockchain (a distributed ledger) has potential, sure, but the bitcoin blockchain and especially bitcoin THE CURRENCY are way too limited, in my opinion.

Centralised finance works just fine and while it might use the underlying technology/idea behind the blockchain, it doesn't need a new artificially limited, volatile, pyramid scheme-like currency.

For all we know:
decentralised ledgers = the internet
Any cryptocurrency like bitcoin = pets.com

Some of those are real issues but I think there is also potential fixes for them because it's software. I was looking for what fundamentals were mistaken. The only one that seems a likely issue is the 51% attack. I'm skeptical though as with time it might not be an issue.

Well duh, neither is Bitcoin.  Not unless you got a heavy dope/gambling habit.

It is used and black/grey markets don't count with currency? I know your mostly trolling but do you have any evidence that is bitcoin's main use?

As far as less shady stuff?  Those merchants accept dollars, not BTC.  That's why the BTC price is calculated for you at the moment of purchase from the real price.
I did mean everyday things. You said illegal items. I asked for proof. Non provided. Whatever, I'm off to do other things. Have a good day!

7 days until the Euro crashes. Can't wait.

I'm assuming you are referring to the troika's demand that Greece submit a bail-out plan that they will not submit, prompting a Greek Gov't shutdown and a massive bank-run.

If this plays out as expected, the Euro will lose value against the GBP, Swiss Franc and USD, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will crash.  What it will mean for bitcoin prices is far from certain. I don't see the price appreciating significantly in US Dollars until it becomes more widely utilized as a means to evade capital controls.

Why isn't it being used this way yet??

The tools to handle the necessary amounts securely and privately are not well-developed enough for the stupid rich .... yet.

What kinds of tools do you envision?
Darkwallet + Trezor could work.

Well you can't hide a reasonable amount in a market cap of 3 billion and sliding.
If it did take hold it would be the small guys who use it first and as more use it, it enables more people who have larger holdings. If it continues to slide it obviously would not work.
